She had just left the Blacksmith's shop and noticed that Koga and his wolf were gone. A whine came from Bast as she realized this and Neph gently patted her head, "Don't worry, I'm sure you'll see your friend again." The panther chirped at the thought before Neph looked at the sky. Clouds were rolling in it seemed. "If it rains that is going to make this interesting." She looked at the giant cat, it hasn't rained since Neph had tamed the panther, so it was going to be interesting to see for sure.

"Whelp, let's get going before we get hit with a downpour. Otherwise, I'm certain that we shall be fine." Neph held onto the parcel that she was given and she headed toward the tree grove that the Blacksmith had told her about. It took a bit for her to get there, she managed to get lost once or twice, but here she finally was, standing in front of the Artisan NPC.

Neph cleared the throat to catch the Artisan's attention, accidentally making the woman jump, "Sorry." It was a soft apology, but an apology none the less. "Oh don't worry about it, I was just lost in my crafting. How can I help you?" Oh yeah, Neph handed the parcel over, "Blacksmith Lyle wanted me to bring this to you," and that was when the new quest came and she clicked accept. "Oh thank you! This is going to help me with the craft that I am working on. I just need one tiny favor if you don't mind."

Neph nodded, telling the woman to continue, "I have one gem already for one of these rings, but I need one more gem. There is a cave not too far out, do you think you could go and get me one?" Neph nodded lightly and she saw the new marker show up on her map. Well, at least that will help her not get lost.

Okay, so it's a gem that she needs to get from this cave, okay, that's not too bad. "Oh, and please be wary of the cave guardian and the fact that the cave is pitch black." Ah, there it is. Neph nodded lightly, "Thank you for the warning and we shall be back shortly with your gem. Any particular color that you need?" "Oh, a nice periwinkle blue would be nice!" Neph nodded as she turned and looked down at Bast, "Come on Bast, let's go get us a periwinkle blue gem from a dark cave."

Sensing her sarcasm, the panther whistled before she started to move ahead of the woman. This was why she loved her giant cat familiar so much, the panther just knew Neph enough to be able to lead the way, most of the time. But, Neph stayed by Bast's side as they walked. The walk seemed to be peaceful so far, so that was nice for them.

"So Bast, what do you think we should expect from this 'dark cave' that the Artisan was talking about?" The panther looked up at Neph as they walked before issuing a series of chirps and hisses, ending with a low whine. "Well then, I take it you don't like the fact that you don't like the cave aspect of this?" Another whine. Neph chuckled lightly as she gently rubbed the panther's head, "Don't worry, I won't let you get lost in there." A purr came from the giant cat then as they continued to walk.

She didn't realize how far away they were from the cave until this exact moment, or was it just that she was lost again? Because that second point was always an option. She was the master at getting lost in the wild, mainly because she just has no sense of direction ever, for anything. Amazing right?

"Why does it feel like we have gone in the completely wrong direction?" She sighed as she looked around, trying to gather where the cave would be over here. She stopped walking long enough to try and turn around in her spot, attempting to see if there was anything for her to find that would help her figure out where she was or how far away she was from this cave. But, that wasn't working for her at all.

She groaned when she looked at her map and noticed that she had passed the cave a while back. "Whelp Bast, my horrible sense of direction strikes again. We have to turn around." The panther chirped before whining lightly and it made Neph laugh, "Yeah, I know, I suck." Together, the pair turned around and started to head back in the right direction of the cave. Hopefully, to actually get there this time.

Still a boring walk, these were the moments she wondered why she was choosing to be pure solo. Not even a party member or a friend to bring with her. Then her mind gives her a flashback of her ex-best friend trying to murder her right after the game master's announcement. Oh yeah, that was the reason. Nephthys shook her head to get rid of that horrible memory. It was a nightmare more than a memory really. She still had nightmares of it, only the years stuck in this hellish game seem to have made it worse.

But that was just her mind playing tricks. She soon came to a stop though when she heard the panther at her side whine. This made the spear-wielding woman look up to see that they were not in front of the cave that was needed for the quest. Well, here goes nothing right?

(1) Safeguard

She looked at the mouth of the cave and felt Bast press against her legs. She gently rubbed the top of the panther's head, "Don't worry Bast, I'm certain there can't be anything truly horrible in there." The panther hissed but reluctantly started to follow Neph closer to the cave's mouth. But something went through her mind just before she actually walked into the cave.

Be sure you use that potion you're given before stepping into the cave.

That's right, she opened her inventory and scrolled through the items that she had brought with her and she selected the Safeguard potion. She quickly drank the potion and she shuddered at the taste of it. Living in this word for two years was not long enough of a time to be able to adjust to drinking these darned potions. She watched as the, now empty, bottle exploded into a cloud of fragments and she gripped her spear a little tighter as she looked back down at Bast, "Okay, we can do this."

The panther didn't seem to be so sure, but she still followed Nephthys as the woman walked in. The moment that she was engulfed by the cave, she nearly froze in her steps. It was pitch black in here. The Artisan had warned her that is was going to be dark, but not pitch flipping black. This wasn't going to make things easy at all. In fact, a quick check of her stats and she noticed that her accuracy dropped by a single point. Thank god she had that bracelet on.

She sighed though and put her free hand on Bast's head, after having to take the time to find the giant cat at least. "Right, now we hunt down a periwinkle blue gem. We got this Bast." She saw the cat's ruby red eyes just glaring at her from the darkness and it made her sigh, "I know, but we have to go through and get this gem."

Right, this wasn't going to be a living nightmare for a quest, no, not at all. This was going to go perfectly well and the pair wasn't about to have any kind of problems. Nope, they were going to be perfectly fine. Now, it was time to start walking, but she walked slowly. She wasn't about to trip over a giant or even a small rock while in this cave. Knowing her luck, that's how she would run right into the cave guardian after all. She would trip over the damn thing.

Could you imagine that, Neph just tripping over the thing that she would need to kill before she was to find the gem. That wasn't going to be possible though was it? She was going to have to find the gem first. Why would any of the developers make life easy? She chuckled at the thought as she walked forward. She was being smart in a way though, using her spear as a walking stick in a way to make sure that there was nothing in front of her.

After walking in the cave for a few minutes, she slowly started to adjust to the cave's darkness, but not enough to fix that accuracy issue. It was at least enough that she didn't need to use her spear as a walking stick at least. She was able to make out shapes. This kind of make her wonder if it was how partially, or even fully, blind people felt. She shook her head promptly then, she didn't want to think that this was how people lived their life on a daily basis.

She wouldn't be able to do it, and it just made her feel even worse for those who did. So instead, she went back to focusing on this task in front of her, making sure that she is able to find this gem. Even if it was being stubborn and not wanting to show itself. She wondered if this was when her luck was going to be against her now though.

Okay, there was a rock right there, there is a rock over there. She was stopped and looking around, trying to figure out the best way to walk with her panther beside her. But once she finally got her way past the rock formations that seemed to be forming around her, she noticed that there was a fork in the cave then. One direction seemed to be colder than the other, but also still dark. She didn't know which direction to go, and well, it bugged her slightly.

She stared at the two roads for a moment before she decided to go down the one to the left. She kept her hand on Bast's head as the panther followed right beside her. At the moment, both the woman and the panther were hating this cave, but Neph was hating it because it was making her panther shake like a leaf. Who the heck would have figured that a panther would be scared of a damn cave?

Had she taken the right fork in the cavern? She didn't know just yet. But she did know that she was still walking and getting absolutely no where at this point. It was slightly irritating when she goes to look at it. She didn't like being lost, and yet here she was, lost as all holy hell. She stopped walking for a moment to turn in a circle to see if she was able to spot anything at all that would be remotely helpful. But sadly, no, it was just pitch black save a few forms from the rocks and other things that were facing her.

She looked down at Bast and she gently guided the panther to turning around, "I think we went down the wrong corridor." A hiss came from the panther but she turned and let Neph lead her back down the cavern. Hopefully, going down the other corridor will be the right one.

Okay, finally, they were back at the fork in the corridors and she turned to quickly start going down the colder corridor. Hopefully the coldness meant that they were going in the right direction now. She sighed before she pulled the panther closer to her to try and steal some of the cat's warmth. She had fur, she could handle sharing that warmth. There seemed to be a faint light showing up though in the back of the corridor and this made the panther nervous.

Actually, it made Neph nervous too, a light was never a good thing, it usually meant that they went the wrong way. Of course, she wouldn't know until the two of them picked up their pace, but being as cautious as they both were, that pace never quickened. Instead, it was a safe and slow pace, attempting to make sure that things didn't try to sneak up on them.

So that light, it was getting closer, but it was faint. She didn't know what was creating it, but it definitely wasn't an exit, so that was a good sign, sort of. But as she got closer to the light, she noticed that it was a pale periwinkle blue color. That must be the gem that I need. She slowly made her way to it still and once she was within reach of it, she looked around.

"Bast, keep an ear out please. I have to pry this gem off the wall it looks like." She knew that a cave guardian was supposed to come when she grabbed the gem, but she didn't know if it was going to be right as she grabbed a hold of the gem, or when she had it in her inventory. It was a sticky situation really. But, with the tip of her spear, she slowly started to pry the gem from the wall, only to hear Bast growl mere moments as she had the gem in her hand.

Okay, cave guardian was here, but she couldn't see it right away. Well, except for when it decided that it was going to stop right in the faint light from the remaining gems. Not thinking too long, she quickly channeled Fatal Thrust and thrusted the tip of her spear right into the Cave Guardian's eye in a single, yet powerful, move. She heard a screech come from the cave guardian just before it turned into a cloud of fragments.

Well, that was actually easier than she thought it was going to be. That was the scary part. The name above the creature had said Cave Guardian, so that must mean that she didn't have to worry about anything else attacking her, hopefully. She sighed as she looked at the gem in her hand before looking down at Bast, "Let's get out of here." The panther chirped quickly before she started to push Neph in the direction out of the cave's exit.

Getting out seemed to be easier than getting through the cave. But that wasn't the thing that bugged her. She was still wondering if the cave guardian was supposed to be that easy to kill. It seemed like something else was supposed to jump out at her and scream 'Physic'. But no, nothing came as the woman and the panther neared the exit of the cave. They haven't left it yet, instead, she stood at the mouth of the cave.

She was trying to adjust herself to the light, but it wasn't working really. At least, not until Bast took her head and shoved it into the back of Neph's legs making her leave the cave completely. She covered her eyes and winced at the bright light, her eyes had adjusted to the darkness of the cave, and well, being literally pushed into the light wasn't a kind thing to her.

"Thanks Bast, that was so appreciated." She grumbled to the giant cat as she sat on the ground, attempting to get her vision fully adjusted to being in the sunlight once more. Hey wait... "Bast, it's not raining anymore." She sighed as she shook her head, she was severely missing the darkness from the old storm clouds now. Perhaps that was why it had been so easy for her to be able to adjust to the dark cave so quickly.

But now, it was just a bright light, almost as if someone was blaring a flashlight right in her eyes in that dark cave. She shook her head after a few minutes and she was finally able to see correctly as she stood up. "Next time, a warning please Bast. That was horrible." The panther chirped a hiss before she moved away from the cave, as if to put some distance between the panther and the cave.

She was back on her feet and they were slowly making their way back to the Artisan. Slowly because Neph had already gotten them lost once before on even getting to the cave. So she figured that if they were to walk slowly, they wouldn't miss the tree grove, but of course, that wasn't always going to go her way was it, but she soon she was back at the gates of town, which was not where she wanted to be, yet at least.

She shook her head as they turned around, "I really need to get better at this whole directions thing. Getting lost or passing things is starting to get annoying as hell." The panther beside her seemed to whistle in agreement as they walked in the direction that they had just come from, hoping to not accidentally pass by the tree grove again. But really, the chances of getting to it were thin.

Walking and walking, she was starting to wonder why she was even doing this all over again. But, still, she kept walking and finally seemed to get closer to the marker that she needed to reach. The panther beside her though decided that she was hungry and took off for a few minutes, causing Neph to have to stop walking and wait. Waiting. Waiting. Still waiting. Why was she still waiting? She sighed as she whistled to call the panther back, only to see that Bast was coming back with a half eaten rabbit and a while rabbit.

"Wow Bast, hungry much?" The panther growled lowly as she settled beside Neph to chow down on her meal. Neph rolled her eyes and sat down as she waited, wondering how the panther could get hungry so much faster than Neph could. But at the same time, did she really want the answer to that question?

The panther took her sweet ass time eating the two rabbits that she had come back with, and when she finally did finish them, the sun was setting on them. "Come on Bast, we need to turn this in and we can do the final beginner quest tomorrow." How did she know that there was another one? She had been reading that nice little guide that the Beta players had made a while back. She was bored and this panther was taking too damn long to eat two rabbits.

Of course, that was probably payback for Neph making her go into a dark cave, so perhaps it was justified? Either way, the pair was soon back on their feet, and paws, walking toward the tree grove that was in front of them. It took them a few more minutes before they finally got to the safety of the tree grove and she looked at the Artisan and cleared the throat once more.
