There is a guild oath involved in joining Jacob's Ladder:

Our goal is to get as many people out of the tower alive as possible. We will never draw our blades against another Frontliner, except in extreme cases where defending the life of another frontliner is necessary. Our mission is to help the Frontline succeed, and not to enrich ourselves.
