If you watch the Making of stuff on Captain America, you will find that they did most of those shots with no shield what so ever. It was acted out and added in with CGI.
I hate how seriously all of you are taking this. I'm just going to be over here, wishing Emerath could fling a shield at his enemies for cool effect. kthx
