  1. The chirping of birds. A chill breeze. The shadows of the trees danced along the forest path, beckoning him further into the woods. Somewhere, he could hear a stream. Somewhere, he heard the snap of a twig. A deer? A rabbit? Something else? He didn't let himself linger for too long on these little noises. They were all a part of a whole. For a long time now, the quiet ambience of the forest had been his only real companion -- other than Zomekko, of course. But the shadowy cat was mute, and sometimes the silence could be deafening. He liked the sounds of the forests. Of the marshes. Of the cave
  2. Shouldering the rod with a huff, Pinball considered his options. The lake was really quite large, and a dazzling blue. For a brief moment he felt the urge to strip and jump in, but with a blush and an embarrassed shake of his head he disregarded that as an option. What if people saw him? What a wild sight that would be. A half-naked player with an orange cursor hovering above his head having a fun day at the beach. Sort of funny, maybe, but not really what he was here for. He looked back to Gill's general area, wondering if he should just turn in the quest and head off. For some re
  3. Pinball whistled. It really was a rainbow fish, wasn't? The sun was catching its brilliant scales like a disco ball. It hurt to look at. Every inch of the floundering creature shone with a blinding radiance. He squinted, winced, and brought it to the shade, where it was a little more bearable to look at. The gleaming scale was supposed to be rare, but Pinball had caught a whole fish -- was he supposed to kill it? Was it supposed to add to his inventory? Or was he just supposed to pluck one off and let it go...? That last one sounded majorly uncomfortable. It wasn't long until Cardinal an
  4. The sun shone red behind his eyelids, but even still, sleep took him shortly. There was something about the breeze, the rustling of grass and leaves, the soft and steady lapping of waves at the shore that made the temptation of rest irresistible. He wasn't the type of person that would fall asleep out in the open -- much less unguarded. The fact that he did would alarm him, but it would also come as a massive relief. When was the last time he'd napped? When was the last time he'd slept without anxiety? He woke up to the sound of fishing line spinning rapidly in its axle. Quick as h
  5. No bites. The little bobber of the inexpensive fishing rod remained floating gently in more or less the exact spot he'd cast it to. Normally, he'd reel it in and recast. He didn't usually have much patience for the crunchy, systematic grinding disguised as cute little hobbies. But as his lingering resentment for literally everything faded away (for whatever reason), he began to adopt a different mindset. He was relaxed. He wasn't in danger. Nobody was hunting him and he wasn't hunting anybody else. The peace and quiet he loved so dearly was all around him. So instead of hurriedly and fru
  6. Plucking a fishing rod from the rack set out for the beginners, Pinball made his way down the lake, admiring for a moment the glittering water and lush greenery around him. He felt that little bead of irritability in his chest begin to dwindle. The sort of thought that, well, while things couldn't possibly be any worse, there was at least comfort in knowing that what he was undertaking right now wouldn't end up killing him. From what he understood, there weren't giant monsters that were randomly fished up to beat him down intermittently. It was part of the reason he'd decided to give fishing a
  7. What he hadn't known was that the NPC's personality was... different. A very handsome young man with a friendly smile. Too friendly. It was weird being around something like that, even if they weren't real. But at the end of the day they were a Quest NPC, and Pinball wasn't really in the mood to offer up anything other than the bare minimum to keep the quest rolling. There was a bait he was supposed to get, but he had to prompt Mr. Gill as to what he was there for. "Fishing," Pinball said languidly, which in turn lead to the man's spiel about rainbow fish and holy bait. He accepted the m
  8. USING x1 Yui's Grace (200*Tier EXP Boost) USING Mega Slime Farm (10% EXP Boost) The secondary professions had been released a while back. They were gathering roles, and they replaced the old, standard method of doing things. There was no harm in that, he didn't think. Things changed all the time. But it kept them working for things they had before, and from the standpoint of someone trapped in a game for the last however many years, he was hard pressed to view it

  10. Penniless and destitute, Pinball found himself meandering through the verdant meadow towards a building he hadn't set foot in in some time. Truthfully, there'd been no reason to. But consumables were important, and they'd be of great help on his searches. He'd also been growing to despise the taste of wild game prepared on the field, and something flavorful for once would be nice. It was mostly the consumable buffs that brought him back, though. Just to be clear. Pushing through the dusty doorway and into the dark, untouched interior of his old shop, he couldn't help but feel the bittersweet t

  12. Trudging through the snow, he tried his best to shake the uneasiness that uncomfortably clawed his chest. His heart started to race. He wasn’t aware of it at the moment, but he’d begun to hold his breath. With every passing step, he wanted to run away just a little bit more. One excuse followed another, and doubts mounted interminably. There would always be another opportunity to visit. There was no reason to go. What did he even hope to accomplish? But he stubbornly refused to be bargained with. He pushed through it, resolute, though his veins turned to ice and he felt as though at any minute
  13. His second reprieve was much like the first, and yet still completely different. Standing alone in an empty field, there was no thought. No emotion. That was what bothered him the most. The memory was there. He held it in the arms of his mind’s eye, but it was hollow, and he knew it shouldn’t be. He knew what he was supposed to feel, too. Guilt. Sadness. Pity. Anything. But he would be lying if he were to say that he did, and he was once again reminded that compassion was a learned behavior, not an innate one. It could be lost, and it could be erased. Perturbed, he turned awa
  14. The first place he stopped was along the road, a spot just barely beyond sight of Snowfrost. His mind filled with the endless rings of steel on steel, the feeling of his body tearing and being torn, and the surge of grim emotions that came with it. Each blow had been struck with such morbid finality that the memories had permanently burned themselves into his mind, whether he very well liked it or not. Bahr. Lessa. The names struck mournful chords, and he couldn’t help but wonder…
  15. He drifted aimlessly between his usual haunts. As of late, things had gone quiet. There were no more posters in town bearing his likeness -- and if the lack of hunters counted as any good indicator, people didn’t seem too keen on tracking him down anymore, either. He kept his head down, yes, and stuck always to the darker parts of the cities he moved through... but somewhere along the road, he’d started to feel less like a fugitive and more like a vagrant; someone simply ignored and avoided, rather than despised and hunted. He wasn’t sure how to feel about that. The whole world seemed re
  16. There were faint ripples in the icy waters as his fingers broke the surface. The shock of the cold brought with it an emulated numbness; something he’d long since grown used to during his travels. He cupped his hands and brought what he could to his lips, savoring the drink. A moment passed. He let the rest fall between his fingers and stood, watching the chunks of ice drift lazily downstream. The young man cut a conspicuous figure across the endless white expanse, draped in black in harsh juxtaposition. A shadowy blotch stretched unattractively across a pure, untainted landscape. And he
  17. {Disclaimer: NIGHT said I could, sniff} Potions. He needed potions. At the same time, he was broke, and that was an unfortunate circumstance he unfortunately found himself having to cope with, of which he unfortunately didn't see an end to unless he could procure aforementioned potions, preferably of the Damage or Healing variety. He picked the lock quickly and cringed as the door swung quietly open and closed behind him. Stealing was bad - but come on. He'd killed before. This really wasn't so horrible in comparison -- -- was what he kept telling himself as he s

  20. A new system meant that there were new opportunities. One such market to be capitalized on was the addition of a General Merchant, meaning that if he wanted to go into town to purchase something, he wouldn't have to bear with the awkward formalities and reassurances a meeting with a Player would typically imply. He was both grateful for it as he was dreading getting a hold of the new systems his life would from now on abide by. The first thing he would do would be to test such things in a dungeon ranked one below his tier, but first he would need some supplies. Buying the following items
