  1. Star was about to rush in when he heard Mina's call. He was confused, and it paired with his disappointment. Retreat? Were they in such a bad position that teleport was their only solution? He peered at their health and energy bars. The latter was beginning to run dry, but they still had more than a few attacks to spare. Nari tossed a crystal to Mina, in agreement with her order, and Star didn't argue. He pulled a crystal of his own from his inventory and crushed it into dust. His body turned to pixels and his vision began to fade. He lost sight of his party and of the Ancient as he dematerial
  2. "One's pushing it," Star said to Mina. "I'm sure it would accept three, though." Hirru's barrier gave them the confidence to play closer to the moose. Engulfed in light, the blonde swordsman dashed in. It swung at him with its massive set of antlers. They acted like miniature spears, threatening to pierce him if he stepped incorrectly. Star toyed with the beast, ducking and weaving around each attack like he was weightless. Fed up with his antics, it charged. Morningstar fled, rolling to the side, and Owij'be crashed into a heavy tree. It wiggled its head, trying to free itself from
  3. "Mmm. I'm an appraiser, not a cook. It's probably best we eat somewhere else. We can pick something up on the way to Zackariah's, if you want." And so they did. He showed her a cafe he liked because it was nearby and had nice muffins. He paid, of course, for whatever it was that she wanted. Morningstar chose a black coffee and a blueberry muffin. It was his usual order. Zackariah had been waiting for them. He was happy to see them return with the tiny material collection they had collected. "Ah, yes! Thank you! This will do perfectly. And for your reward," he handed a ruddy bottle to
  4. Through a filter of green, Morningstar scanned the tunnels. There were three routes to take: left, right, or straight down the middle. Whatever had taken the girl left a trail of thick ooze for the pair to follow. Kent knelt down, taking a pinch of goo with his fingers and holding it to his eyes. "I've seen this before," he told Morningstar, pulling a handkerchief from his coat pocket. "On the sidewalk, just a few days ago, near a different entrance to the sewer." "Let's see where it leads," Star said. Kent nodded, wiping off his slime-covered fingers. Aside from water flowing,
  5. Star was first to reach the manhole. He dropped to his knees, relentlessly searching for a way to pull it up. Kent drew his sword, offering it as a wedge. It was thin enough to fit but thick enough that it wouldn't snap. They pried open the cover, revealing a narrow, dark pit. Without stopping to think, Star climbed into the hole. His foot touched a steel ladder, and he used it to lower himself into the dark. He had never been so glad to have purchased the Night Vision mod. The tunnel around him went from pitch black to bright green. As his visibility increased, so did his disgust. Slime
  6. Days passed, and Morningstar remained in the city, driven by the gnawing suspicion that the disappearances were malicious. His mind never rested, constantly theorizing, leaving him with only three to four hours of sleep on good nights, sometimes even less. Beside the inn was a narrow alleyway. Morningstar passed it every morning and every night, and he knew that there was nothing in it, but for some trash and boxes. His room was right next to it, meaning he could see some of it from his window. It wasn't a great view, but he had paid very little for it. He paid little attention to the all

  8. The light sprinkles of rain poked his scalp and shoulders as he stepped out into the street. He took one last peek into what was once Henry's shop. To anyone else, it was just another empty building. To him, it was sad. Star agreed to keep Foyle posted on both Freyd's whereabouts and of any discoveries he made along the way. It was smart to keep Firm Anima in the loop if the situation was as big as he expected. "Under better circumstances, I hope," Morningstar said, watching as the old man wandered off into the city. He kept his eyes trained on the road, waiting for guards to come and sco

  10. Morningstar enjoyed his drink in silence. He wasn't sure what exactly he had been handed. It looked like beer but tasted sort of like cranberry juice. Whatever it was, he liked it. He downed three before calling it quits and retiring to his cheap room. It had a bed, and even a mattress on top. There was a blanket, but it wasn't very thick or cozy. The pillow was too soft and the window wouldn't close properly. The table in the room was the only nice addition. It gave him somewhere to sit and write, a habit he had formed. Every night, like clockwork, he would open his journal and jot
  11. They parted ways in Urbus beneath the sunset. They shared one last smile and Morningstar couldn't help but notice how beautiful she was. She was like a flower about to bloom; a butterfly, freeing itself from the chrysalis. Elegant and strong. She rounded a corner and he was alone again. The partnership was nice, even if it was brief. It wasn't often he teamed up with another player. To his left was a tavern, and to his right some shops. To end the day, he decided to choose left. It was a decent little place, filled with shockingly respectful customers. They weren't too loud, but
  12. Converting this thread to an SP due to the length of time between posts and because I don't think that Reyna will ever come back. Quest requirements have already been fulfilled. Shouldn't be any issues. Their long walk ended with the gates of Urbus. Koko did her best to lead them back to her home, and to avoid ruining the fun for her, they avoided telling her they knew the way. Koko ran to her mother the second she spotted her. "I'm sorry, Mama!" She wailed, her tiny arms wrapping around Choshi's waist as she buried her face into her shirt. "I-I won't get into trouble again, I-I prom
  13. Kent scooped up the list in the midst of Morningstar's study. He paid for both of their drinks and stood from the bar, adjusting his jacket. "It was good to meet you, Morningstar. I'm sure I'll see you around." His departure was abrupt and ominous. Star was left to simmer with all that had been said. His mind raced to connect dots, but there simply weren't enough to pin together. Twelve names. Was the number significant or was it merely the current tally of the missing? Morningstar had once intended to investigate the disappearances himself. He recalled mentioning it to Vigilon, know
  14. He absorbed Foyle's words, plotting out his next steps in his head. In the worst case scenario, he had one teleportation crystal. He could zap himself off Floor 28 right then and there, if he wanted to. Foyle seemed the type to come prepared. Morningstar imagined that he had considered doing the same. But so many questions remained unanswered. He whipped open his map once more. "I'd like to continue investigating, I think. Not in Glyndebourne, though. It's not safe for me here. I'll find a way outside of the city and see how far the Magistrate's influence extends," Star decided. He pinche
  15. With a metallic clunk, Nari was over the fissure. Star reached out a hand to help her up. "Smooth. Like a gazelle," he joked. Their reunion was interrupted by the unfortunate soul that rounded the corner. A fifth Skyrat Raider. It was the duo's lucky day—they had been given the opportunity to take down another nuisance of a pirate. Eager to make things quick, Morningstar pressed forwards. He swiped across the Raider's chest, the stun from his Sword Art taking effect immediately. The pirate fell to the ground like a rock that, for some reason, had eyes and ears. "He's all yours," Morn
  16. Ty's eyes sparkled with something other than fear. It was genuine intrigue. "Yeah," he agreed. "We'll start you off with something smaller than a five-headed dragon. I think the next part of the quest has you kill a boar. You should manage, but I'll be here if it gets to be too much." Speak of the devil. Trotting up the hill, seething with fury, came a large, round boar. It charged, kicking up dirt and dust in its wake. With a click, Morningstar let loose his blade. It screeched as it exited its scabbard, and glowed with an empowered sword art. Star stood between the mob and Ty, forc
  17. "Hmm..." He felt like he had no good answer to give Typhoon. He wasn't sure that supports used any different weapons than DPS or tank players. To his knowledge, it was a difference in skills. "You'd have to ask him. Whatever you need, though, I'm sure he'll have it." Morningstar didn't recognize the name Sunburst. It wasn't a name he had seen amongst the frontliners. If she hadn't seen their name on the Monument, then it at least meant that they were okay. "All sorts of things," he told her. "An undead king, a giant five-headed dragon, an overgrown moose. A big rock," he added sheepi
  18. He nodded, stopping by a pair of small boulders. They could sit a while and refresh themselves and get back to the search when they were reenergized. He tossed Etherial a pouch of water and a protein bar. "Sorry. Out of peanut butter. Hope you like mint chocolate." A swig of cold water was exactly what Star needed. He never realized how thirsty he was until he stopped to drink. He multitasked, keeping his torch raised while struggling to unwrap his snack. Once he'd finally gotten it, he sighed. It wasn't a flavor he particularly liked. The air was crisp on his skin. His eyes trailed
  19. "I'd wondered where you found those words of power. Never thought to ask." He placed the unreadable book back on the shelf, neatly fitting it in with the rest. "I'd like the company. I'm not interrupting any fascinating reads?" He jested, peeking out around the corner. Corridors formed by bookshelves stretched out as far as Star could see. Tables in the center row sat unused and looked rather dusty, much like the books NIGHT had piled up. Maybe he was being harsh, but the library didn't appear to get much use. "So," he turned back to the girl, "Librarians? Staff? Anyone? I haven't se
