  1. They spend a good amount of time looking for the chest. Combing the area, one step at a time scanning the ground for anything that might jump out at them. After about two hours they decide it is probably time to call it. I probably have to wait longer for the chest in this area to respawn. I might have to see about coming in later in the week, maybe I will find it then. I guess I should go find the mayor and deliver this letter, that way I can be done with this quest once and for all. Though I guess there is a possibility I can help someone else on it right? That is what new players are suppos
  2. “Ah would you look at that! Quite the haul I would say” “Yeah I think you are right” That answers my question about if it goes off of your current gear, perhaps I just got lucky earlier finding two pole-arms in a chest. I should see if I can find another one on the way back, probably take a long route. “Thank you, I hope the rest of your fishing goes well I can only imagine that you will have more good luck based on what I see here it looks like you have been having plenty of luck so far!” With a wave Echo leaves the man behind and begins to walk to the edge of town.
  3. Walking to the pier it doesn't take long for Echo to find the fisherman, the older man sits at the end of the dock line in the water. “Um. excuse me are you Pete Larkin?” “Aye, that be me. Who wants ta know?” “Oh, sorry I am Wildfire. I was sent by Mayor Dorian, apparently someone owes him some money and after a number of run-a-rounds it looks like you might be my guy” “Oh I can help with that, I used to fish with my father all the time." Leaning over, Echo grabs hold of the cage. Their first tug at the cage lifts it out of the water some but not quite to the extent it
  4. Echo began the walk back to the shop, a pep in there step now that they had accomplished this task Another step, another stone. Look at how far you are coming. To think not but two days ago this was an impossibility and now? You killed three boarlets. Granted they are weaker then most monsters you will encounter but you are getting the hang of it! The grass turned to stone and they began the arduous process of pushing their way through the busy streets. So these shops are exclusive to the quest right? I doubt I will be able to commission from them so I should keep an eye out for shops to commi
  5. Keeping their head about them they watch as the boarlet move, slower now as though assessing Echo. Come on, you are going to attack soon, you wont wait forever. All I have to do is watch and wait. The boarlet tenses their back legs as they initiate an attack Bingo the boarlet flies at Echo, lunging with all its might to bring the lone adventurer down. Echo was not to be caught off guard though, and like a fly swatter they slam the ax blade down knocking the boar out of the sky, keeping it out of reach of their person “AH-HA! I knew it would work. I will have to remember that for the future. I
  6. Tightening and loosening their grip on the haft Echo attempts to find where the pole sits the most comfortable in their hands. They just needed one good opening. They take a breath, feeling the warm summer air on their tongue, the taste of pollen thick. Finding their footing they see their shot. They aim, taking a moment to be sure they will strike true, they step the muscles in their legs jumping into action. One clean hit, the boar is skewered in place, the tip of the Halberd coming out the other side and briefly pinning the boar to the ground. With a powerful pull Echo rips the weapon free
  7. “Don’t you huff at me, I have you in my sights now. With all those tricky thoughts in your head I bet you thought you were so clever coming at me like that. Thinking you would make a meal of me. But no, I cant allow that to happen. I have a goal now and I am not going to let you stand in my way” Leveling the pole-arm they attempt to shake their head clear once more but the fuzziness behind their eyes doesnt quite clear before they and the boaret are upon each other. A wide strike and swift footwork lead to not but air on both accounts. “This must end” Echo says to no one in particular. ”If it
  8. Sunlight glistens off the hide of the boarlet as it approaches Echo. For once in their life they allow themself to slip into inattentiveness. It bides its time, waiting to strike. As Echo bends down to pick up their weapon the boarlet seizes its moment. Ramming forward and slamming its great and mighty tusks into Echo’s backside sending them sprawling forward just barely managing to get a hold of their weapon. Echo shakes their head free of any fog and looks at the lone boarlet. “You know, after the day I have had, I would eat you if I could.” Echo attempts to regain their balance. “It would b
  9. Echo lay there, feeling the sun on their freckled face, a cool breeze helping to calm the heat of battle. They sit up slowly, not wanting to aggravate muscles. Why am I acting like I have to be careful about my body? It's not like it’s real anyways. I guess it is just a force of habit, the human condition is to protect yourself from non-existent dangers. They begin the process of stretching, feeling the tendons in their arms tense and relax. They look up at the sky, it is clear, a good day to exercise, even if the exercise is to put themself in mortal peril. Slowly they stand and shake their
  10. There was no stopping the flow of combat now. Following the boarlet around to the back Echo lunges. The boarlet now on the back foot jumps to get one last hit in. Slamming into Echo’s right arm, Echo uses its own momentum to impale it on the curved spike. Huffing Echo hits the accept button on the pop up in front of them. Two down. One to go. I should probably take a second to breathe though, especially since it seems like health regenerates pretty quickly once combat ends. I could do some yoga I guess? Maybe some meditation? How does one get their heart rate down after this? I wonder if there
  11. I wonder if maybe I chose the wrong weapon type. I could try to pick them off from a distance but I think it would not have made much of a distance. I could have tried to use something smaller and more direct I guess, but then I would be more in the mix if I was in a group. No, this still feels right to me. Maybe I just need to try harder. Here it comes around again, so far it seems like I have the most success if I let it hit me when I go to attack. If I can goad it into a false opening again I might be able to really do some damage to it. Positioning themself to be in the direct line of atta
  12. Staggering slightly but keeping firm, the wind gracing their cheeks Echo raises the weapon spinning it in their hand a bit. They watch as the boarlet begins to walk slowly around, circling them. We are off to an okay start I think. It shouldn't be too hard. Just remember what we did last time and we will be off to the races. Lunging for the boar trying to take it off guard, Echo brings the haft of the weapon down, the sudden movement spooks the boarlet causing them to jump back out of their attack. Neither getting a good hit. Oh come on is this how all of these are going to go? I think I am st
  13. Echo feels the sway of the pole-arm as they swing it around, almost loosing their balance as they do so, the heavy weapon still unfamiliar in their hands. With a grunt and a thrust, the blade slices through the air once more, the boar barreling into Echo as the two clash. A hit for a hit is as good a method as any I guess Echo thinks to themself. I might have to try and see if I can keep that going. I wouldn’t mind trading HP, I would win the long game with that I think. I wonder what skills I can grab that would allow me to better my combat prowess. Do I even really want to be on the front li
  14. Walking back out into the clearing Echo starts the search for another opponent. The sun was high overhead now, the time having gotten away from them. It did not take too long before they made eye contact with a new Boarlet to fight. Alright, just like before we get into position. They crouch down to better have their spear in a defensive position in case the beast attacked first. I have to let it come to me, but also provoke it to some degree. Neither of the two breaking eye contact the boarlet also gets into an attack position ready to strike. Echo approaches, one step. Then another, then ano
  15. Getting to the top of the hill, Echo wipes the non-existent sweat off their brow. Plopping down with a thud they take stock of their gear. Everything still looks in order. I have the healing potion but it looks like my health is going up rather quickly on its own. I should be right as rain in no time. I wonder how long it takes for energy to increase, probably not long. I just have to do that two more times, hopefully without taking too much more damage. Is there anything I could do differently? Not that I can think of, I wonder if I can find a player to help me learn proper stances, I will ha
  16. Throwing caution to the wind, Echo runs at their opponent attempting to catch it off guard. They stifle a war cry as they run. The Boarlet follows in kind, turning to rush Echo, aiming to do what they did before. There is a clash, Echo hears the sound of the healbar lowing as they take the brunt of the boarlets attack. However, they then release in the feeling of victory as they watch the boarlet burst into blue shards. It was over and they had won. I think I should probably take a second to catch my breath before I try to get the next one. Echo hits accept on the popup once the lightshow dies
  17. Taking their time Echo moves into the boarlet, no large movements, keeping the spear of the halberd in front of them. I do think I wish I had gotten in with those guys that did the live foam sword fights in college. What did they call themself again? It doesn't matter I guess. It would have made it much easier to know how to grab this. And it's not like there were any places to learn martial arts as a child anyway. The boarlet lunges for them not attempting to make a circle this time. Slightly unsure of their footing. Echo strikes out with the pole-arm hitting not but air, focusing on their fo
  18. A second hit, the boarlet is so close now. I think If I just do that again I should be able to finish the job. Gearing up for the same strike Echo watches the boarlet as it makes another dash in a small circle gaining speed. Okay you have done it twice just lunge when it gets close and…. Echo lunges, their halberd flies through the air leaving their midsection open. The boarlet now expects this adjusts its trajectory ever so slightly as to get out of the way of the slash. The tusks and head of the boarlet hit Echo square in the chest, flinging them backwards. Echo’s head swims as they hit the
  19. It was real now, Echo could feel the adrenaline rushing through them. This was real, they were doing it. They could feel as the speed of time seemed to eb and flow with every breath. So this is what those base jumpers are chasing. I can imagine that once all of this is said and done there are going to be a lot more adrenaline junkies out there. I bet that energy drink companies sweep people up in a heartbeat. Now I need to focus, watch the movements of the boar. It looks like I did an okay amount of damage this time, I just have to do that same thing again. And it looks like I might have an op
  20. It did not take long for Echo to find a Boarlet. They walked out into the clearing they had seen so many adventurers start their journey in. They take a moment to look up at the hill with the lonely tree. To think, not two days ago I was unsure if I even wanted to start this journey. I was going to stay there alone, by myself. But I am here now. It was not hard for the Boarlet to see Echo either. The two locked eyes. The seconds seemed to stretch out for an eternity, Echo could hear their heart pounding in their ears. They ready the halbird, ready to strike. To their great surprise they acted
  21. Bending over Echo begins to take a look at the latch and lock. I guess I have to find a way to open it. I don’t think I have a skill but I can give it a go Echo attempts to open the lock. It clicks a few times as they get their positioning wrong. Then with one good attempt the chest clicks open. Okay so that is the hard part let's see what we have inside. Opening the chest they are stuck marveling for a moment as multiple items enter their inventory at once. Okay so the game has an idea of what you are probably going to want then when you open chests like this. I have consistently gone with po
  22. Echo walks out of the shop and through the town. It is still dark out. Better that way I think, I don’t really like having to push through crowds. The rhythmic pattering of leather boots on the cobblestone turned from harsh to soft as Echo reached the end of the town. You know before I go too crazy with the boars I have heard that there are treasure chests around. I bet that I might be able to find something useful if I can find one. They walk to the edge of a small clearing, it seems to have an indent out of it that leads to one of the more wooded sections of the floor. Taking their time they
  23. Echo walks through the silent town towards one of many blacksmith shops. I wonder if they will be open or if I will be in need of waiting. I guess if worse comes to worse I can make my way out and keep looking for materials. I don’t want to get too far away from the safe-zone though, I want to be here as early as possible. Who knows how long this quest will last. To their pleasant surprise, there was the pleasant sound of hammer on steel as Echo approached Lyle Tealeaf’s blacksmith shop. I could listen to that sound for ages, I wish we had shops like this back at college. I can imagine th
  24. Fire burns in the hearth, small but with ferocity. It illuminates the homely room, a brown rug adorns the otherwise carpeted floor, a small round table, just big enough to sit four with a white doily on it. A lone figure sits in the armchair in the back corner…. It was my grandfather's favorite chair Echo thinks to themself as they sink into the plush and well used cushions. No sound stirs in the house, safe for the crackling of that small fire. I should go check on them Echo thinks as they try to stand. They go to adjust the position of their arm and find that it is stuck, but it is more than
  25. Walking back to the old tavern, Echo finds that the feeling of agitation passes rather quickly. So this first part was how to find materials. Cool. So then the next part will be to use them maybe? That would make sense as per other tutorials I guess I don't really know what else they might have me do? Oh…. there is going to be a combat one isn't there? Am I really prepared for that? Echo opens their inventory and looks at the 5 starter potions deposited there by Cardinal. I guess it will have to be enough, besides normally these combat tutorials are not lethal and it's just a teacher run
