[F17 | SP] The Wrong Goddess | <<Challenge of Olympus: Tailor>>
Morrigan replied to Morrigan's topic in Intermediate Floors
’You’re far better built for this than I am. How did you develop such muscles?’ Her voice was light and airy, as if conversing about nothing more than the mountain’s colouring, but both knew she was trying to inquire about something deeper about the goat-man, as if trying to confirm something. He looked back with a sheepish smile, and Morrígan couldn’t help but admit the personality fit the individual nearly perfectly. ’All Satyr’s are well versed in the climbing of mountains. You could say it comes inherited from our sheep side.’ He confirmed what she’d already suspected; that he was of -

The base of the mountain was far less appealing than Morrígan had expected. In fact, if anything, it was a harsh reminder that she still needed to climb the mountain; a mountain that was certainly far taller than she had expected it to be when she’d first spotted the peak from the town of Athenia. Now that she stood at its base, she wondered if she hadn’t been a touch too enthusiastic in her desire to reach her destination. ’Come on now, princess. It’s only a little ways to the top, and then you get to hang out with your deity for the day!’ The goat-man was far too excited for what was b -
Her eyes shifted to the hole, a measure of discomfort rising inside her as she realised that the word unstable, or at least a synonym of it, had been used mere moments before to describe the situation beyond. A flash of images – most containing further collapsing rocks from above – flashed through her mind as she fought the feelings inside her, trying to figure out whether she was brave enough to take on the challenge or not. It was the realisation that Freyd himself seemed uncomfortable with the idea, that finalised her decision for her. ’Alright. I’ll go in. You continue pushing the op

He cleaved through the witch, sending her tumbling down the stairs to a point where she came to a natural halt. The frozen form – held in place by the stun that the blonde had placed upon it – made the witch appear even more odd and dreary; the arms held up as if preparing to cast a spell, or complete an unnatural dance of some sort. Morrígan glanced at the other player, not wanting to question his emphasis of the danger involved, but certainly doubting his declaration of a dangerous fireball that would have smote her from existence. ’I’m entirely satisfied with your incorrect evaluations -

Morrígan had stopped what she had been doing, her gaze staring oddly at Acanthus as she processed the words. She was sure she wasn’t staring for long, but the seconds that past seemed to feel like forever as her mind worked to process the words that she had said, before she found herself speaking once more. ’That’s very true, Acanthus. Most of us seem to believe – false pretense, or otherwise persuaded – that everything in here should be an adventure; as if our entire lives are now conjoined with the concept of racing to our eventual deaths. No joy to be found, salved only through the con -

Morrígan eyed the other player as she seemed to question her own self, but she knew enough to keep quiet about the topic unless they brought it up. Instead, as if to deflect the conversation way from themselves, they pressed to the topic of Phantom, and Morrígan found herself having to think back on the occasion slightly before she could answer. ’Phantom and I met on floor twenty-three, after I had spent some time wandering the surface level. I…wasn’t entirely sure what I was looking for, originally, if I’m entirely candid. I’d hunted down the gypsy woman who starts the quest – a task i -

The blonde’s blade tore through the monkey’s that Morrígan had attempted to greet, leaving her staring at little more than a collection of shards where once a creature had stood. She blinked, as much in surprise as she was in awe of the power that the other player held in his hands; capable of simply cutting down that which would otherwise have eradicated them. ’You had a plan to begin with? I’d held the impression that you were simply frolicking through the forests, stumbled upon myself with the tome that you required for the quest, and then acted as nothing short of my eloquent and capa -

’Apologies, it appears you know whom I am, but I never was introduced to yourself. It would only be polite to ask the name of one who guides you to your destination, after all, so that proper thanks may be given at the completion of said journey.’ She turned her attention to the goat-man – she was fairly certain her was a Satyr, although there were some similarities to other races of mythology that she wasn’t quite confident in her assumption, yet – and awaited his response. What she hadn’t expected, was the laughter that followed her enquiry. The goat-man had come to a complete stop, b -

Morrígan smiled as Acanthus shared her memory, almost capable of seeing the scene of the girl and bear putting on their own concert. Truthfully, she couldn’t hear the music – she was unfamiliar with the mentioned artist, though she assumed that it was someone who was dear to Acanthus’ memory, having been remembered this long – but it didn’t make the imagery in her mind any less enjoyable to see. Her thoughts were pulled back into the moment, however, as Acanthus began apologising for how much she’d been discussing herself. ’Do not feel the need to be apologetic. I rarely get to see the t -

Another chortle and Morrígan was then left without any more information, the goat-man content to walk in silence for the time being. She wondered if he didn’t revel, to some degree, in withholding the information from her that she clearly desperately needed. Fine, I’ll just have to go into this with as little insight as I have. There’s nothing else I can do, aside from torturing it out of him – and I’m fairly certain the system won’t let me do that. She wasn’t happy with it, being forced to simply accept the fact that she would essentially be walking in blindly towards what was meant to be a c -

’Oh, you’re a fun one. Talking just like those piety gods and goddesses up there. You’re going to fit right in, I’ll tell you that.’ He shook his head, still laughing softly at the entire situation. Turning on his hooves, he began walking away from the city, taking the main path as he went and beckoning for her to follow. With little choice in the matter, Morrígan stepped after him, already making a note to get his name and report him to whatever counted as a form of hierarchy and control at the mountain. ’I’m to escort you up the mountain, after we cross the plains to its base. Don’t worry, n -

There was a strong level of sarcasm behind the man-goat’s words, and Morrígan found herself staring at him in a measure of distaste and displeasure. Whatever realm the thing had come from – she couldn’t think of it as a man, so much as a thing – it had clearly not been versed in the etiquette one would expect to provide when attending to someone they had been directed to receive. As much to make a point of the poor demeanour, as to adhere to the values she had been raised with, Morrígan gave a curtsy in greeting. ’It is my pleasure to attend the mountain alongside your guidance and knowl -

’Well, daydreaming about it and making assumptions about what’s to come will do little for me. I’d be better served actually investigating the invitation, and seeing what Mount Olympus has to offer.’ She turned her attention to the mountain visible in the distance, rising over the city’s edges as if calling to it. From this distance, she couldn’t see more than an outline of its details, and even that was barely visible at best. Still, it reminded her of her goal, and the range she still had to cross in order to arrive at her destination. ’And then, once I’m there, I need to actually start upon -

The city was huge, and Morrígan knew it would take her most, if not all and beyond, the day to explore every corner of it. She didn’t have time for that, as appealing as it may have sounded in her mind. Instead, she’d focused on cutting a winding path through the more centralised areas, heading towards the gate where her note had stated she would meet a guide that would bring her to the mountain Olympus; where she would, in theory, meet with the gods and face a challenge of some sort. ’It really was rather cryptic…’ She mumbled beneath her breath, bringing some odd stares from the nearby -

Morrígan eyed the crystals offered by the other player, considering them before accepting their weight into her hand. She could already think of a few ways to use the gemstones, should things not go in her favour. Still, she wanted to give Phantom the chance of returning with the buttons she’d originally tossed out, before adding more to the situation. ’Thank you, for these. I actually have some ideas for them already – I’ve noticed that Phantom has an eye for things that glitter and glow, and these fit the descriptor perfectly.’ She paused and listened as Acanthus explained her own previ -

Freyd had caught up sooner than Morrígan had expected, his direction coming as she finished providing the farmer with the remainder of her healing potion. She hadn’t been sure it would do anything for the man, but as she stepped back and saw the near immediate change in the man, she felt a small measure of pride at her own small success. She’d jumped slightly at the sound of the first strike against rock, turning to see the form of Freyd driving pickaxe against rubble, attempting to clear away the debris and open a path – however small – into the areas beyond. Morrígan strode forward to

Athenaia was busy, considering the time of morning. Players and NPCs flowed through the city’s central areas, passing by on route to whatever important meeting or event they had to attend to that day; their focus forward and ignoring the redhaired woman that shifted through the area, trailed from above by a raven that was little more than a black mark upon the blue sky. Clouds were visible in the distance, and yet no one seemed perturbed by their appearance. Morrígan had always thought it unfortunate how few took interest in the environment around them, the beauty that was the world of Aincrad -

Surprise, perhaps, was the best way to describe her reaction to the sudden commentary that escaped Freyd’s lips. She stood still for a moment, trying to wrap her head around the joke he had made – if she were honest, she struggled to remember who the colonel with the secret recipe was, before it finally connected within her mind – and she found her retort coming slow in response. ’Actually, our coffee’s far superior to anything the secret recipe might try and provide.’ It was poor in taste, and even poorer in delivery, but as she stood staring at Freyd with a serious look upon her face sh

The familiar face had taken a moment for Morrígan to place, but as the words streamed out of them - meticulous and well-versed, if brief - she remembered the man she had met in the fields not so long ago. Silently taking note of his order and desires, she gave a soft nod before confirming she'd be able to complete the order. 'This is more than within my capabilities to complete. I'll need a few hours, so drop by again later this afternoon and it should be done.' She didn't waste time, heading to work on the item as soon as he was outside of the store's front entryway. Phantom watched as s
