[F01 | SP] The Tip of Tailoring | <<Earning a Living: Tailor>>
Morrigan replied to Morrigan's topic in Beginner Floors
She’d made her notes about the shop on the dark floor, before making her way back towards the central courtyard housing the teleporter pad. No amount of minor investigation had given her any answer to the queries she’d developed while exploring the area, and although the shop had made its way towards the top of Morrígan’s list, it had still remained as a secondary choice. Although, she knew, she still was missing her primary option. ’I just think it’s still out there, waiting for us to find it. I’m aware there’s been some viable options, and some of the retail locations are near perfect -

’Well, it’s…a shop.’ Morrígan glanced at the open real estate, her eyes flitting over its front in a quick glance. The storefront was dark, like most other areas of this floor. Small lanterns glowed around it, highlighting the shadows slightly in a way that gave almost nothing personal away. What little she could make out of the store wasn’t unappealing, but it certainly refrained from drawing her in any further. ’At least the area itself seems…nice, enough.’ Phantom shifted on Morrígan’s shoulder, not quite comfortable with the area that they had come to stop. There wasn’t necessarily a -

There was nothing left to gain from sitting around in the bakery – and Morrígan had already overstayed her welcome, her awareness of the appropriate and inappropriate behaviour of a guest urging her onwards. Taking the time to properly clean out the dishes left behind from her meal, she stood and exited the small eatery, heading back down the street towards the central courtyard and the teleporter pad. ’This floor’s newer, maybe there will be somewhere here?’ The twenty-seventh floor had been achieved not too long ago, and Morrígan had hoped that perhaps there she’d find something, some -

Morrígan remained seated for a while after she’d finished her meal, sipping away at the milkshake while she considered where to head next. She’d scrounged through the floors at random, thankfully keeping note of where she had attended and what she’d seen there. Detailed writings reminded her of the various areas they’d passed through, and although some had carried intriguing aspects to them – various characteristics that Morrígan new she could incorporate into the designs and imagery of her shop-to-be – she could easily tell from her writings that there was no perfect fit. ’Maybe there i -

Morrígan and Phantom had flowed through a variety of floors, each bringing their own natural environment and unique prospects, but none that felt ideal for what she was looking for; a problem partially derived from her lack of actual confirmation of what she was looking for in a location. She’d tried pinpointing her ideals down as they’d travelled, even going so far as to communicate them with Phantom – and yet, still she found her explanations lacking some form of core understanding or element. Morrígan stepped into the small bakery, heading towards a table before the door had even clo -

The third floor they’d attended was less than appealing to Morrígan, a burst of heat striking her and nearly pushing her over as they’d stepped off the teleportation platform and into the bazaar that seemed to be the main focus of the area she’d arrived in. Phantom had screeched in distaste at their current situation, shifting her wings as if to try and dispel some of the uncomfortably hot air that had settled around the two. Morrígan had, in her determination, chosen to wander through a small part of the bazaar, looking for anything that could be a suitable storefront available to them – as w -

Richard had bidden her farewell in a brief manner, before returning to the tending of his shop; actions that were little more than random movements dictated by his very existence. For better or for worse, a newcomer arrived just as Morrígan had fully stepped outside, taking the tailor teacher away from the menial tasks that had consumed him, and returning him towards the more natural engagement that came with other beings. Morrígan glanced back only once before moving away from the storefront. She’d accomplished something without even having planning to do so, and she found a measure of pride -

The first cut had torn the hide she’d held in her hand, leaving a gash that was abysmal to the eye, and a clear indication of the amateur nature that she brought and carried to the task. It didn’t, however, deter Morrígan as she placed it to the side and considered how to integrate it into her final crafted piece later on. Slowly, the wool and hide morphed into a form that could be called fitting – at least, if one didn’t look beyond the simplicity of it. She barely looked up from her work – customers came and left, Richard stepping away briefly to engage with them before returning to her side -

’These will do.’ Richard smiled softly as he glanced at the various wools and hides that Morrígan had returned from her hunting expedition with. She’d been, admittedly, a small measure of disappointed in his response – a carefree, less than interested glance, followed by a commonality statement that seemed to carry no true desire to actually check them. She’d just barely stopped herself from scoffing in response, knowing that it was an inappropriate reaction to his behaviours. ’I’m interested in beginning my lessons now, if that is acceptable.’ She stood straight, her height barely bringi -

She let out a breath as the halberd passed through both creatures, leaving her standing alone in the field. A few seconds passed, the shards raining towards the ground, before Phantom perched upon her shoulder, taking up her usual spot as the chaos of battle and conflict drifted away. A quick check of the dropped materials confirmed that everything Morrígan needed had been dropped by the sheep – a fact that meant she’d chosen the correct path, as far as she was concerned. ’Alright, now we just need to head back and speak with the master tailor, and then we can work towards starting a cr -

Morrígan’s halberd rose to greet the sheep creatures, the blade glinting slightly as the sunlight shone across its side. She’d just brought it back to swing forwards when one of the creatures ducked itself, leaping forwards towards her in a desperate attempt to overcome her as her defences were open. A trick that Morrígan could’ve respected, were it not for the attempt on her life that it meant. In response, she shifted her stance slightly, bringing the shield down and in front of her more than it had been a moment ago – slamming it directly into the face of the creature and shoving it to -

It took almost an hour before any of the sheep creatures has drifted away from the main pack. Morrígan and Phantom had stalked the outer areas of the fields, trying to find ways to infiltrate the greater herd, and drive it apart. They’d found nothing that could be considered reliable as a measure, however, and had instead found themselves waiting as patiently as they could for their moment to arise. When the first pair had begun to separate, Morrígan had moved quickly, shifting herself to a position that would allow her to rush forward and engage them the moment they were clearly separated fro -

The door to the shop closed behind her as Morrígan re-entered the town’s busy street. She’d gotten what few details she could from the NPC following her acceptance of the quest, confirming that she’d need to once again head out into the wildlands beyond the walls and attempt to find any sort of materials that could be used in the creation of clothing, clothed pieces, or similar items. She had a number of ideas in mind, from the wool of sheep-like animals that she’d spotted during her earlier travels, to the hides of the various boars, wolves and other creatures that could be found outside the -

His commentary had piqued Morrígan’s attention, and she found herself placing the item back on the rack before turning towards him, her hands folded gently before her as if she were preparing herself for some event. The smile on her face was subtle, a bare tug at the edges of her mouth as she considered her words carefully, knowing that she’d entered a level of bargaining and questioning that went beyond her general shopping routine. ’A tailor? As in someone who creates pieces for dress and sale?’ Phantom shifted slightly on her shoulder, as if responding with interest to the words and i -

’Ah, a fine set. Although I must say, I’m not so sure it would fit your complexion.’ The shopkeep had been tailing her ever since she’d entered the area. He was far from what one would expect a clothing store salesman to be; his frame and appearance far more relatable to a lumberjack, or perhaps a blacksmith. Still, the smile upon his face was anything but frightening, and Morrígan found herself only ever so slightly annoyed at his intonations in comparison to how she’d responded to others. It helped his situation, if only slightly, that she knew he was correct in his commentary. Thus far he’d -

The sky had begun to lighten by the time Morrígan had finished her morning preparations. Phantom had waited patiently, sneaking an extra few crackers when she’d thought Morrígan hadn’t been watching. Not that Morrígan hadn’t considered handing them over regardless. She’d watched in a measure of interest, however, as the raven had successfully untied the bag, pull out the pieces with a delicacy and care that showed the intellectual levels of the new companion. ’So, what shall we do today?’ Morrígan eyed the street before her, seeing numerous shops that she’d been meaning to visit at some -

'Yes.' Morrígan kept her features controlled, but she was surprised that someone had made the connection between her name and the myths and legends of old. 'My father is a historian, specifically in old Eurocentric anthropological exploration. He had... interesting hobbies and avenues of research.' Her voice had hesitated only briefly as she considered her words. In truth, her father had been near obsessive with the periods and histories, purchasing anything that could be related to Nordic, Germanic or British Isle ancients, often far above fair prices. 'It's not often that someone m -
Earning a Living: Tailor Morrígan awoke to a mixture of chiming alarm, paired with the squawking from Phantom’s desire to find food. She’d given a harsh sigh, realising that her life would no longer contain the late morning rising she’d become used to over the past while, and would instead be focused on the provision and care of another creature beyond just herself. She’d rolled out of bed, deciding it was best to get the day started – especially as the squawking continued – rather than attempting to ignore the change in her new daily routine. ’I’m up, I’m up. Let’s get you something

The shop had been referred to her by another player that Morrígan had come to make acquaintances with, although she knew better than to call them anything beyond that. It was a quaint locale, one which would likely bring fond memories or feelings to most who experienced it. Morrígan, however, found her eyes flowing around and over the areas, passing over details that would likely be considered cute or interesting to most others. Spotting the man within the smithy - one that carried an elegance that even Morrígan couldn't ignore fully - she moved forwards and raised her voice, curtsying on -

’It would assume that she has accepted you.’ The voice came from behind Morrígan, and she spun before she realised it might disturb the bird upon her shoulder. Although it gave a soft squawk of disagreement at the sudden movement, the creature remained in place, talons softly gripping into her shoulder in a way that caused no discomfort to Morrígan. ’If you’re quite done with them, I’ll take those back now.’ Morrígan glanced down at the bag of treats that the traveling gypsy had motioned towards, before tossing them over to the other individual. She gave a soft curtsy before providing her -

Morrígan refrained from moving as the raven shifted closer to the treat, its eyes shifting between herself and the item in her hand. She could see the hesitation and desire in its features, and the way it moved. Silently willing it forwards, she chose to allow it to make the first approach, holding as still as she could as it walked forwards. She kept her left hand – still holding the open bag – from moving, trying to seem as unimposing and unthreatening as possible. There we go…just grab the treat, and everything will be all good. She thought to herself as it edged closer once more, bef -

Morrígan rose to her feet, stepping out from the area she’d settled into and standing in the clearing, staring up at the collection of birds that stared back at her in kind. None seemed disturbed by her presence, nor her sudden appearance, and once again she felt an odd, ominous feeling at their very existence in the area. She couldn’t shake the feeling that they had been following her since she’d left the underdark, and that these were – somehow – the same murder of ravens, keeping an eye on her and watching her movements throughout the day for reasons that extended beyond her understanding. -

Morrígan had almost fallen asleep when the first creature had pushed its way through the trees. It was only the soft sound of the brush parting that had alerted her, the small critter making nearly no noise at all as it had shuffled into view. A tiny nose, dark against the brown and green that surrounded it, sniffed at the air cautiously before it had continued forwards towards the water’s edge. Everything about its movements and form seemed to exert a level of caution and fear, and as it came closer Morrígan finally got a good look at its full form. Whatever it was, it reminded Morrígan -

The pond stretched out before Morrígan in an almost beautiful way. The water was murky, disgusting to look at and carried a soft hint of a stench that would have been repulsive at best if she’d come across it without intention. It was, in the moment, however, a perfect reward for the continued persistence she had put into the task. It had appeared almost instantly, as she’d come through a collection of branches and brush, spreading out before her as it stretched from the edge she’d stopped at and towards the trees on the far side. It wasn’t large – Morrígan assumed it was no more than t
