[PP-F4] Cold Personas and an Angry Snowman<<Avalanche>>(Calrex)[Completed!]

Recommended Posts

"ah-Ah!-AH!-AHCHOOOO!" blasting out an echoing blast of a sneeze the boy groaned as he took a deep gasp of air, "oh god why does this place have to be so cold?" swiping into his menu he went into his inventory equipping his black coat, it may have no bonuses but at least it would keep him partly warm. closing the coat around himself he awaited the arrival of his mentor, he was excited for today Takneil was taking on his first boss...even if he did have a Level 50 at his side. 'You know what's gonna happen don't you?' sighing he acknowledged the voice. "What?, hmm?" 'you're gonna freak out and then I'm gonna have to take control and have to deal with that stuck up armored dude.' "whatever, just don't be disappointed when you end up being wrong" the voice had been pestering him for the past week now and hadn't let up, getting hit with a blast of chilly wind the boy sneezed once more. Maybe if he were to trust it things would end up being better...

In a flash of light Calrex appeared on the fourth floor, giving a calming breath as he rubbed his eyes. The dark circles underneath his eyes were prominent, but as he swapped out his gear for the Grand Chariot: Legacy, the tired look on his face was covered by the stoic expression of his full-body armor, "So, Tak's decided to go and do Avalanche. Definitely a good pick for a field boss. Not too difficult, yet easy either."

"In any case I'll need to play tank in this as usual. If I can't take it down in a single strike I'll need to use Howl to make sure I get the maximum aggro."

Walking through the streets of Snowfrost Town he looked around, giving a small sigh at the memories of frequenting this floor when his wife's shop was still on the floor. The idea reminded him of her current situation, the emotions forcing his free hand into a fist before he gave an exhale, "Like Oikawa said, I need to talk to her about this rather than keeping it inside. I need to ind out the reason why she's holding out on taking Redemption, because I can't think of a reasonable reason why."

Looking over he saw his teammate come into view as he gave a friendly wave, completing his trek over, "Alright, ready to take down an ice giant?"

Seeing the man come into view the boy smiled and waved, "Now stuff it or you'll never get a single response out of me again, got it..." he muttered through the smile towards The Other. hearing something resembling a scoff the voice faded back into his mind's subconscious. it would be a trivial task for the boy if he were to do it alone...no he would surely die, but with Calrex he could boost his level thank the heavens.

greeting his mentor Takneil smiled a bit embarrassed. "sorry for calling you here so suddenly, but I needed to get a higher level...I hope I'm not interfering with anything important" granted this was the first the boy had made a request of the man besides the time he had nearly died he felt guilty.

"Not a problem, it's perfectly fine. I've got some time before I should get heading back to keep an eye on Teayre, so if you're ready let's get moving and take this hunk of ice down."

With a nod Calrex motioned towards the exit of the settlement, walking alongside Takneil as he kept his hand on the Grand Blade, giving a calming breath. He could feel exhaustion wanting to take over his awake state, but he forced it back as he gave the area another scan with his <<Reveal>> skill, "Looks like we're not in the spawning territory of the field boss just yet, but get your weapon ready. Once we enter combat I'll use my Howl skill to get its attention. From there you can wail on it all you want before I finish it off."

"Luckily enough the cold persona has been remaining under my control so far. A few nights ago it seemed to slip a little bit, but not recently. Maybe that evening fighting alongside Oikawa in defense of the Anethyst Boutique did me some good."

"That's good to hear, after all the sooner I get stronger the sooner I can start pulling my own weight" he stated modestly, ever since he had entered the game he might as well had broken his legs from the rough landing, it seemed he had been unable to grasp the concept of the game by himself and whenever asked for aid other players would just ignore him or insult him for being weak. But for some reason Calrex had been willing to help the boy, he had taught him how to protect himself and had even done a quest with him to get him a stronger blade. shaking away from his thoughts he offered a confident smirk. "Yeah, let's get going

The cold wasn't so bad now that he was moving, he had worried if the cold would have impaired his movement. which was shoddy as it was, but from what he could tell it wasn't effecting him. "I understand" drawing the Stinger Blade he smiled as he felt it's power run through him, though minor all he could get was well appreciated. "I'm ready" he stated close behind the armored man.

As he acknowledged his teammate was ready to go Calrex gave a calming breath, focusing in order to stave off exhaustion once again. Raising his sword high his armor and blade began to resonate with a glowing light blue aura before the light blue aura chains began to spiral around his armor before he pierced the ground with his sword, releasing his <<Howl>> skill. The resounding boom erupted from his armor like a monstrous roar that seemed to echo through the snowy hills.

Not long after Calrex's <<Reveal>> skill indicated the location of the field boss as he saw the monstrous form begin to make its way towards the two players, "Alright Takneil, get ready."

Like he had seen in the past, two large hunks of ice came flying at him. With his high Evasion ability it was fairly easy to avoid the masses of light blue as they slammed into the snow.

Sliding to the side the Ultramarine Knight watched as <<Avalanche>>'s fists retracted as he tightened his grip on his sword, "Go for it!"

"Got it!" Nodding Takneil wasted no time in moving. rushing forward with Stinger Edge raised he ducked under the icy projectiles and swerved around the enemies leg, keeping his resolve calm he focused on a weak point in it's build. the foot. Stomping into the snowy ground he sliced through the ice of the creature's appendage, he had hit an enemy first try. a cause for celebration but not now. Backing away the boy waited for another opening, he was sad the creature had no reaction but it was a boss. what was he to expect?. glancing at Calrex he gave the thumbs up to let the man know he was fine.

Seeing his teammate and protege deal a strike on the monstrous creature Calrex gave a nod as he saw the boy back up. Turning back to face the giant construct he saw two fists flying straight at him, far too close for him to avoid, "Guess it's time to show Tak how powerful maximizing your armor is."

Bringing up his arms he braced for impact as the fists slammed into his guard. Even though the blow was powerful, the maximized Heavy Armor skill that the Ultramarine Knight possessed reduced the powerful blow to a negligent amount as he shoved the attacks to the side. Immediately following the attack Calrex unleashed a Sword Art of his own, <<Nova Ascension>>. Flying forward his sword lit up with the familiar light blue glow as he unleashed a barrage of eight slashes before he performed a quick spinning maneuver, slamming the hilt of the Grand Blade into <<Avalanche>>'s face.

As he landed back on the ground the bluenette confirmed that the field boss was stunned as he gave a nod to Tak, "Alright, he's just about done. Let's finish him off!"

Amazed at the brutal display of power Takneil watched as the bosses once intimidating health and stature whittled away before his eyes, this was the power of his mentor. he was shocked that the enemy had managed to stay alive after a massive blow of that degree, flipping <<Stinger Edge>> in his hand and adjusting his stance he ran forward. "Alright!".

running around the creature's blind side he pivoted his body and swiftly sliced against it's leg once more, backing away he clenched his fist. it was still alive, only hanging on by a thread. "Cal, the next hit will end it!"

As Takneil did more damage to the gigantic beast Calrex gave a nod as he weaved out of the way of another series of blows, tightly gripping his sword as he gave a calming breath, "Alright then, let's put an end to this thing."

"It's just another creature, but it's also the one that killed Beleram so many months ago. I can't honestly say I don't harbor some resentment for hurting Teayre like that, even if it was coincidence."

Activating <<Slant>> he quickly closed the distance as his sword lit alight with a light blue hue. Cutting upwards the diagonal strike passed through the monster before it burst into crystals. With a sigh he lowered his blade before resheathing it, turning back to his protege, "Alright, well that takes care of that. Here..."

Swiping on his menu he transferred the quest item over to Takneil as he rested his hands at his sides, "That item actually will come in handy once you decide to take on the Guardian of Fire quest. It provides resistance to fire damage, of which there's plenty of on the that floor. Better safe than sorry."

Sheathing <<Stinger Edge>> as the Enemy shattered into pieces the boy nodded as the quest had been completed, taking his friends side he frowned. 'It would have been nice if he had felt more useful...' giving a sideways glance at his Mentor he sighed, what was he too expect? the man had been through many trivial tasks to get where he is today, he earned his power. So now it was Takneil's turn. Accepting the gift he smirked. "yeah I heard that quest is a nightmare if you're not prepared

"Hey Cal?, thank you..." he stated suddenly. "I know it can't be easy making time for me with you needing to hone your own skills and keeping to Teayre, I may not acknowledge it enough but I'm grateful for everything you've done to help me."

Calrex gave a nod, a smile coming to his face underneath his armor as he heard Takneil's words of thanks. Turning to face him the Ultramarine Knight gave a nod as he walked over, "There's no need for thanks Tak. This is something I have chosen to do. Ariel may have first proposed it when I was a member of Absolute Pin, but this was something I've been doing off an on for quite sometime, albeit not to the extent that you've gotten heh. A good friend of mine and I once spoke of these things back when I was just a little higher in level than you are now, and we gained a lot of insight into the way things are by bouncing our opinions off each other. The ideal is that all of us make it out of this game, without another life being lost to monsters, PKers, or whatever. However, in my experience the ideal is rarely what actually happens. Back then we felt that the frontlines were faltering, and that we needed to what we can to change that. Part of that initiative was the train and foster the next generation of frontliners."

Giving a friendly nod he squared his stance, as if to try and be more formal, "Tak, I'm going to do everything I can to survive in this game, and to protect those that I care about, but I'm not going to turn my head away from the possibility that I may fall in battle. Because of this, I'm hoping that should that come to pass the teachings I'm passing on to you will be a torch for those that come after. Even if I don't die, I hope the lessons that I teach you will keep you and Hikoru alive so that you two will see each other again in the real world."

Nodding The boy understood what the man was saying, they needed to make sure no one was left behind. Too make sure nobody died because they had nobody to rely on, by teaching players how to survive and introducing a moral code they'll be killing two birds with one stone. "Don't worry Cal, I'll make it. Not only to the front lines, but back home." he claimed. He wasn't ignorant of the implications of what he had said, he knew that meant surviving all of the dangers SAO presented and those yet to be seen but he wouldn't die. Offering a smile to the man he chuckled. "You better not die, cause Hikoru is not the only one I want to see in the real world now"

looking up to the snowy sky his smile faded to a more grateful expression. "There are people I've met here that I've created bonds with, You, Ariel, Audacity, and so many more. Once we make it out of here I don't want those bonds to break because we simply aren't trapped in here" waiting a few moments to let the silence make it's peace Takneil sighed. "I believe in that ideal, that all of us will make it out of this game. And I know it's false hope but that hope is what keeps me going, it's what makes me strong."

"I know it sounds like a bunch of wishful thinking but there's no way I'm leaving this game without any of you, even people I haven't met yet..., the ones who don't fight or can't fight because of their own problems. I want to protect them because they have no one to be protected by..."

Hearing his protege's response brought another smile to Calrex's face. It was exactly as he had suspected back when he had reunited with Takneil for the second time. It was his first time being a mentor to anyone, but he saw a lot of himself in the young boy, and he wanted to make sure that he helped him grow as a player and as a person, "Heh, well trust me I'm going to do all that I can. If I went and got myself killed there's more than a handful of individuals that wouldn't let it down."

Turning around to face the open expanse of the snowy field zones surrounding the fourth floor settlement he continued to speak while motioning for his protege to follow, "At the least, we are more than capable of making that false dream into a reality. It's still a long shot, but from what I've seen on the frontlines, no matter what disagreements we all have amongst one another, everyone that participates are able to quickly put those differences aside. No matter what differences we have, we still seem to share the common of goal of eventually making it out of here."

As he continued to listen he addressed the final words Takneil spoke, "It's good to know that you wish to protect everyone, however as someone that also went down that path I would say to be careful. To be honest, I wish I could do the same, shouldering all of the tasks to get us through the floors without having to risk anyone else's lives, but there is no way one single player could pull it off. So definitely protect those that come under your charge, but at the same time as I've said help to train them. It is rare that a person is completely incapable of protecting themselves. It is more common that they have the potential, but simply have not been provided the tools, training, or guidance to build up that confidence in themselves."

With that he looked around the area, hearing the sounds that he had expected in the wake of <<Avalanche>>'s destruction, "Alright Tak, looks like perfect timing. There's a group of wolves that are nearby. I want to help you in combat. I wouldn't be a good mentor if I didn't make you do some training right? I'm familiar with the curved blade Sword Arts from watching Zel in combat, and I'm sure you share the same potential. So I'm going to put you in a battle in which your weapon will shine. Don't worry, I'll still keep the attacks off of you, but show me what you can do."

Using his <<Reveal>> skill he gave a calming breath as he raised his sword, preparing to use <<Howl>>, "Just let me know when you're ready and we'll engage the creatures in combat."

"I know that because I want it to happen doesn't make it happen, of course there are going to be more casualties..." sighing he followed the man. "but as I said, believing that I can is what keeps me going." he stated. It had been a long time since he himself was in a position that many other players were in, part of him thinks that maybe the reason why he still wanders the lower floors is to help other players in need of it.

letting the sappy moment fade Takneil nodded. "Alright sounds good" hearing the wolves howls he drew <<Stinger Edge>>, they were close now. Close enough for his sword art to hit. Charging his skill he fell into a battle position, bringing the blade to his waist he tightened his grip around the hilt as the weapon began glowing white. "Ready"

Calrex gave a nod as he slammed the Grand Blade into the snowy ground. activating his <<Howl>> skill as the glowing light blue aura that emanated from his armor produced the monstrous roar. The explosive noise echoed out to the four wolves as they turned and charged forward, aiming to attack the Ultramarine Knight. However, his high Evasion stat allowed him to quickly weave out of the attacks as he gave a nod to his teammate, "Alright Tak, let them have it!"

Watching the enemies movements Takneil adjusted his stance, lowering towards the ground and raising his blade. He could do it, he just had to trust his instincts. Taking a calming breath he nodded as the man gave him confirmation. "Got it!" Kicking off of the ground in a blur of white light he slashed his sword through all four wolves, speeding past the last one he swiftly pivoted and turned back to to face the enemies. "Like that?" he asked with a grin, even he hadn't done it right he knew of one thing. it felt good. Bringing up <<Stinger Edge>> once more he waited.

"Yep, just like that. The specialty of curved blades is area of effect Sword Arts. So once you get even stronger you'll be able to take on more enemies at once and be particular fearsome. Most likely once you make it to the frontlines you would be placed on crowd control, keeping mobs off of others while they focus on the main boss, but another strategy is to hit the boss as well as its minions."

With a calming breath Calrex raised his own sword, bringing it into a horizontal position. It lit up with a light blue aura as his Rank 1 Sword Art <<Horizontal>> activated. Flying forward he did a wide cut, striking all four of the wolves before they attempted to leap at him. However, just like before he easily and deftly evaded their blows as he gave a not to his teammate, "Alright, go for it again Tak!"

Activating the sword art once more <<Stinger Edge>> shone brightly, taking in a breath he smirked. He had done it right, he was getting stronger. Watching As Calrex did an attack of his own the boy waited, so using a curved sword is an offensive support type. He should be able to manage it, if he got his damage up he wouldn't have a problem.

hearing his Mentor, Takneil sprung into action again. in another flash of light he had manage to successfully strike all four of the wolves, per usual they were left with a hair of their life. no matter how strong he got he had a sneaking suspicion that it would be a common happening. "Alright Cal, they're all yours"

Calrex gave a nod, but as he turned he saw the four wolves quickly adopt a all sides formation as they leapt at the same time. Unable to activate his Sword Art in time he flipped the Grand Blade into a reverse grip as he braced for impact.

The four wolves bit onto his shoulders and arms the Ultramarine Knight promptly shrugged them off as he saw his health drop only a small percentage, a smirk coming across his face, even though it was concealed by his helmet.

"Take one more shot Tak, you can finish them off!"
