History

Loreley didn't live what one could call an "easy life". Having spent most of her childhood on the streets with her deadbeat dad, Loreley went from place to place learning the ways of the harsh, cruel world. Lying, cheating, stealing, Loreley learned how to do it all to get what was necessary to survive, even if that was just a hot meal for the night or an actual bed to sleep in. Sometimes the bed contained unwelcome company, but it was a bed, so Loreley often didn't complain. Her dad panhandled for money during the day, and drank at night, while leaving Loreley to fend for herself. Throughout most of her time on the streets, Loreley cursed her mother, who passed away when she was a young girl. She firmly believed that if the woman had stayed alive, that she never would've had to live such a nightmare day in, and day out.

There were times when Loreley would go days without seeing her dad, and often she feared that he was dead, though she never really sought him out. She was never in the same place for more than a day and a night, always moving on to the next sucker or nice person. That was, until she found out her dad had managed to worm his way into the home of some upper class woman. The woman was a grieving widow, much like her father claimed to be, though he never showed it, and supposedly the two had bonded over that. Her father cleaned himself up and called himself a "changed man" from that point on. He had certainly changed alright, and not for the better. Loreley lived in the house with her father and his new stepmother, though she never considered herself "at home" and often found herself actually missing life out on the streets.

Loreley was forced to go back to school, and did rather horribly at it. She often wound up skipping class or picking on other students in the hallways and was eventually expelled from the academy that her stepmother had so graciously paid for her to go to. If there was one thing that she wasn't lacking for, though, it was money. Despite that they were tacked on additions to the family, and that her father was still a deadbeat, Loreley was still showered in money, and could practically buy anything she wanted. And in line with that, Loreley found herself interested in a new game coming out. One virtual reality world where a player could leave this world and be whoever they wanted to be. Sword Art Online. And so, Loreley bought herself a NerveGear, and upon getting home she set it all up. She never was very good with technology, so she ended up fumbling with it quite a bit before finally getting it to work properly. And when she started it up she was thrilled with the results.

Sword Art Online wasn't a return to the streets that she knew and loved, but it was still an escape, and a welcome one. That is, until she found out that she was trapped in the game, and death in the game meant death in real life. Loreley was honestly pretty frightened of the thought, mostly because she never was very good at video games. All Loreley had wanted was the chance to be somewhere else besides her overbearing stepmother's house and deadbeat father's "love". But now she had that, and she steeled herself. If she could live a life on the streets, she could live a life in Aincrad.

Personality

Loreley is not one to be very open or friendly, unless you have something she wants. She's a very cold, reserved person, often wishing to be alone for everything, and trusting no one. A drifter of sorts, she will go from place to place often with little regard for what other people do or don't do along the way. She has no scruples against lying, cheating, or stealing, and despite that you can't actually steal in Aincrad, that doesn't mean she won't still try other means. If Loreley ever actually gets close to you, it's not because she cares, but because you have something. So don't take it personally when she disappears after she gets what she wants. She has a saying, "Promises are only lies." and that is the creed she lives by.

Virtues

- Quick Witted: Loreley is able to quickly and easily make up stories on the spot or get in a good verbal jab to throw off other people from their game, allowing her to often move in for the kill. She's not one to hesitate when opportunity presents itself too perfectly, and will often make sure that you're aware of just how quick on her feet she is, mentally as well as physically.

Agile: Despite living in a posh home for a few years, Loreley kept herself in peak condition, training herself to be fast on her feet and quick on the draw. Should things have ever fallen out between her deadbeat dad and her new stepmother, she had to always be prepared to be back on the streets, and half the time the only way to survive out there was to be fast.

Streetwise: You'll find it's hard to actually get one over on Loreley. The first person to usually spot a bluff and the last person to walk away from the poker table a winner, Loreley has experience on her side. After dealing with plenty of people just like her, who would do anything to make a quick buck, or even just survive the night, she had to learn how to catch them in the act, and then do them one better, and she thinks she got pretty good at it.

Flaws

Untrustworthy: Loreley has no qualms about lying, and she's not trying to hide it either. She'll look you in the eyes, and tell you things straight to your face, and you won't actually be able to believe a word of it, no matter how sincere she actually sounds. All she wants is something you've got, and she'll tell you every sweet, honeyed word you want to hear to get it. Don't trust the girl. It isn't worth it.

Distant: Often disconnected from everything else going on around her, Loreley doesn't really care at all about what you think or want. Even if she did legitimately care about a person, as rare as that may be, she'd often find herself so distanced from them that at best they'd be an occasional passing thought. The best example is her father, who she'd often ignore, and he'd often ignore her, which developed this cold persona to anyone she is legitimately attached to, and makes new attachments nearly impossible.

Cold: Loreley doesn't care about how hard your life was, how much things for you suck, and if your puppy just died. Her life sucks too, and she pretty much just says to get over it. So save the sob stories, and if you truly want to impress her, give her what she wants so she can move on with her life. Her life was probably harder than yours, and we're all going to die eventually, so why spend so much time crying over stupid things?
