Teselmar 0 Posted December 28, 2015 Author #61 Share Posted December 28, 2015 (edited) Raising his fighting spirit with the sun, Teselmar tried again. Perhaps even in his exhausted state, he could manage to gather his energy. He launched forward again, ready to bring a hammer fist down upon the boulder that had been giving him so much trouble. "You're gonna break first, rock... not me." ID# 43496 results: Battle: 10 After so many near-misses, it was immensely satisfying to hear the CRRNCH that accompanied a critical hit. The boulder was damaged intensely, beginning to crumble now. Still, it stood, and the game didn't detect its HP as being depleted. "Soon... Soon..." -Boulder HP- 7 Edited December 28, 2015 by Teselmar
Teselmar 0 Posted December 28, 2015 Author #62 Share Posted December 28, 2015 (edited) He was so close, he could taste it. After all this time, the rock was almost down. His entire body was screaming with tingling and weariness, and yet... I have to keep it up, or all of this will have been for nothing... He swung once again. ID# 43497 results: Battle: 5 It was almost enough to damage the rock, but not enough. Teselmar steeled his heart, and readied himself to try again. Teselmar 0 Posted December 28, 2015 Author #63 Share Posted December 28, 2015 (edited) Teselmar was disgusted with how long it was taking him to break the stupid rock. In the real world, he couldn't accomplish something like this, but he could run circles around most of the "high level" kids that had been trapped in here. He needed to train his mind in a different way. Putting his weight behind the blow, he once again whirled, lashing out with his elbow at the boulder. ID# 43500 results: Battle: 4 Again, the rock repelled his best efforts. It was only an eventuality, the rock would fall. All I have to do is stay determined... Teselmar 0 Posted December 28, 2015 Author #64 Share Posted December 28, 2015 (edited) The food and water he'd consumed had restored a bit of his energy, and he felt that he had the strength to keep going. Regardless of how long it took, Teselmar was going to break the boulder. On the bright side, he thought to himself as he readied another haymaker, fighting with a weapon is going to seem like a cakewalk after this... ID# 43501 results: Battle: 10 Another satisfying KRRK, as he scored another critical strike against the boulder! The piece of the mountain that he'd been working on for almost a full day was finally on its last legs, he could tell! -Boulder HP- 4 Edited December 28, 2015 by Teselmar
Teselmar 0 Posted December 28, 2015 Author #65 Share Posted December 28, 2015 (edited) Just a bit further... Just a bit further... These thoughts dominated Teselmar's mind, as one who is dying of thirst can only think of water. This latest breakthrough was teasing him, just daring him to keep it up and destroy the boulder completely. He was falling into a rhythm, throwing out a strong left hook this time. ID# 43502 results: Battle: 8 A good blow, the rock was almost completely split down the middle now! "Keep going!" He shouted at himself, making the few passerby who were watching him jump in surprise. -Boulder HP- 3 Edited December 28, 2015 by Teselmar
Teselmar 0 Posted December 28, 2015 Author #66 Share Posted December 28, 2015 (edited) Keeping up the rhythm, he whirled on the balls of his feet, his mind letting him move faster than his muscles would have ever allowed for. This... this is true power... the power of thought, translated to action... he leaned into his next punch with effort born of enlightenment. ID# 43503 results: Battle: 4 His fist bounced off yet again, but he was undeterred. He finally began to understand what it was to push himself past his own mental limitations. It's the same rush as when my life is on the line... that feeling of riding the current, going with the flow of combat. He was addicted, plain and simple. Teselmar 0 Posted December 28, 2015 Author #67 Share Posted December 28, 2015 (edited) "Fall!" Whirling, almost appearing to dance, Teselmar rebounded from his last attempt. He spun into the left uppercut with an intense amount of momentum, the kind that in real life would be akin to being hit by a car. He twisted his hips at the impact, willing his fist to strike down the boulder where it stood. ID# 43504 results: Battle: 2 He was getting sick of the feeling of missing, but it wasn't going to slow down his assault one bit. Teselmar 0 Posted December 28, 2015 Author #68 Share Posted December 28, 2015 (edited) Moving faster than he had before, Teselmar could almost feel the air around him getting lighter as he whirled, not letting up in his offensive. To come so far just to stop now would be unforgivable! The knife hand practically hissed as he whipped his arm at the rock, the air humming as he slashed through it. ID# 43505 results: Battle: 9 The boulder was almost entirely cracked through, his latest assault having taken a large section from it. The once mighty boulder didn't look much more than a thoroughly cracked and damaged heap of stone now. Victory was in his grasp, and Teselmar's smile returned to his face. "Ready to break, Mr. Rock? Because I'm not!" He'd gathered a small crowd, some of whom bore the same whiskers that he currently did. -Boulder HP- 2 Edited December 28, 2015 by Teselmar
Teselmar 0 Posted December 28, 2015 Author #69 Share Posted December 28, 2015 (edited) This would be quite a story to tell, once he escaped from SAO. Every challenge that Teselmar faced from this point on, he could smile and laugh, and say "I've been through worse." He raised his right hand high once more, curled it into a fist, and brought it down sharply, wanting nothing more than to be done with this Quest. ID# 43506 results: Battle: 5 Almost! His fist wasn't aligned right, and he didn't make a dent in the rock. "Come on, I'm so !#$% close!" He shouted at the unflinching stone. Teselmar 0 Posted December 28, 2015 Author #70 Share Posted December 28, 2015 (edited) Teselmar kept smiling, even in the face of sheer exhaustion and mental strain. "I'm going to break this rock, if it's the absolute last thing I do!" He yelled again, raising his left hand this time. The game didn't matter any more. The world didn't matter any more. Nothing else mattered except destroying this rock, this instant. ID# 43507 results: Battle: 10 And this instant it was. With an earth shattering -KWOOOOM-, the boulder shattered straight down the middle. The small crowd of travelers jumped at the impact, and more than a few cheered as it splintered into a million shining fragments, the data ceasing to exist. Teselmar swayed on his feet for a moment in seeming disbelief. "I... Did I... I did it..." He smiled, tears of joy actually making their way down his face. "I actually did it..." He was stunned by his uncharacteristic emotional outburst. Wiping his tears quickly on his dust-laden sleeve, he noticed that the sun was high in the sky, and that the old man NPC was emerging from the hut. Teselmar made his way on shaky legs towards him, the rush of adrenaline beginning to wear off. "You have completed the challenge, and in doing so, you have been initiated fully to the secret skill of <<Martial Arts>>". The old man reached up, passing his hand over Teselmar's face. He didn't need to check, but if he had, he would have seen that his whiskers were gone. "Take what you have learned here, and use it wisely. The world is full of obstacles much greater than a simple stone." And with that, the <<Quest Complete!>> sign lit up on his HUD. Flopping down onto the ground, Teselmar stared up into the virtual sky once again. He knew it wasn't real. None of it was. And yet... the weariness he had felt was real, as was the desperation, and the determination, and the pride as the rock finally cracked. He began to laugh softly, those tears coming unbidden to his eyes once again because he knew: Real or virtual, he was a better man today than he had been yesterday. And really, that's all he'd ever wanted. Edited December 28, 2015 by Teselmar
