Brax 0 Posted January 4, 2016 #1 Share Posted January 4, 2016 (edited) ID 45464 LD 19 Brax was almost at a stopping point in his training. He knew that his next level up would grant him the 2nd level of Sword Arts for his bloody battle-axe. When he got it, Brax would be able to have an AOE attack to slay groups of monsters, and in return, gain much more in resources for future crafting, should he pursue a profession, though that seemed most unlikely in the near future. But first, one more day of training. As eager as he could be, given his situation, Brax managed to find a gem of a material in the vicinity. Quite the promising start to his training time. Easily dodging the creature's tackle, Brax shifted to the left, slipping past the raging beast's opening move. Turning to face it, he then set his Whirlwind into action, the left-to-right strike catching the animal in midair and the attack's shockwave sending it sprawling several feet away. It had faced many other creatures before this heavily armored foe, and all had fallen before it's sharp teeth and wicked claws. It would not succumb this time, either. It let out a raging howl, full of anger and pride, and rushed the giant again. Unfortunately as before, it missed, and for it's reward was struck again by the deadly metal the opponent held in it's grip. Doubt seemingly flashed in it's eyes: would this be it's last battle? Brax had had enough of this battle, it was time to move on. The creature was decent enough, he supposed, but in the end, he had bigger fish to fry. The wolf made a desperate attack, it's rage blinding it to the fact that Brax had prepared his final move: the patented sword art Whirlwind, and with a seemingly simply flick of his axe, Brax struck the wolf mid-attack, and with the shockwave dispersed it's pixels into the wind. Picking up the loot dropped by the beast, Brax continued his search for more EXP, just a little more. +1 material +1 snowflake Edited January 14, 2016 by Brax
Brax 0 Posted January 5, 2016 Author #5 Share Posted January 5, 2016 (edited) ID 45468 LD 8 While on the hunt for a new opponent, Brax spent a little time searching the area for more than monsters. There was little of note to be seen: trees, grass, several birds in the sky. Other members of the game were engaged in heavy combat with creatures of the forest. No decent crafting materials to be found either. Not even something for the budding alchemists of the world, so he moved on to another area. Brax 0 Posted January 5, 2016 Author #6 Share Posted January 5, 2016 (edited) The next field proved even less interesting. Partially dead grass hid nothing from his view; in point of fact, the dying carpet crunched noisily beneath his armored boots. There had been no rain to nourish the foliage in the area, but of course the logical side of Brax knew that virtual grass needed no such thing. It was simply a design choice by Kayaba and his engineering team. But, with nothing of note to hold his attention, Brax ignored his idle curiosity and travelled further on. Brax 0 Posted January 5, 2016 Author #7 Share Posted January 5, 2016 (edited) Another forested field, another empty materials search, another lack of suitable monsters for hunting. Either they were too weak, like a family of miniature boars, much smaller and presumably weaker than normal fare, or they were too strong for Brax's current status, big hulking wolves with iron-like fur and razor sharp fangs capable of rending a low level player in two. He skirted the edge of their domains, careful not to draw much attention to himself as he went in search of better odds. Edited January 23, 2016 by Brax

This one seemed older, wiser, much more cautious in it's approach. It was also slightly bigger in the legs, more muscle to strike harder and faster with. 'The better to eat you with,' Brax thought, remembering the nursery rhymes the nurse's at Berringer's would tell the more childish patients. Wishing for a quick ending, Brax struck the beast with his Whirlwind, the axe traversing his body as it had before with the same results. What was not the same was the response. The animal, knowing what to expect from adventurers such as Brax, took the blow head-on, weathering the shockwave afterwards and hitting back during the opening that followed. Brax was pushed back a few inches, the tackle coming unexpectedly. Edited January 14, 2016 by Brax

It snarled and huffed it's displeasure at being unable to bring down the metal-clad man. Red eyes gleamed with a supreme rage, murderous intent exhaled with every breath. But try as it might, the animal could not land a solid hit, anything to pierce the defenses of it's foe. It's attack met with succes, and again it's body was struck by that damnable weapon. The wolf still retained hope; it possessed a small portion of it's health, surely that would give it enough time to turn things in it's favor. The loot would hopefully aid him well, as it had been hard fought for. He slid down the tree into a seated position, resting his legs and allowing the Epitaph a momentary respite from holding up his weary frame. The lady Teayre had done a magnificent job crafting the piece, though there was something off about it that Brax could not yet put his finger on. He put the thought off, choosing to focus his attention elsewhere. Edited January 23, 2016 by Brax

He engaged as he would any other of it's kind, a simple slash of his Whirlwind coming down atop the creature, and receiving a myriad of scratches in return that did nothing against his armor. Brax 0 Posted January 5, 2016 Author #15 Share Posted January 5, 2016 (edited) Wrestling with the Wolf had shown Brax a few things. It allowed Brax to gauge the computer's depiction of level strength. His calculating mind began an assessment that he should have started from the beginning of his journey in training, ferreting out the levels of power a creature could put out at every stage, feeling what the difference would be between appearance and actual skills that the NPC monsters possessed. It was a fascinating endeavor, one that Brax threw his entire attention over to. It allowed his mind to engage in the numbers he had so often found...reassuring during his stunted rehabilitation. He shoved the wolf away as it attempted to strike, damaging the beast and at least giving him time to collect himself. As the wolf flew off of him, Brax reached his hand down to pick himself up off the forest floor. It came to rest on something hard, and Brax thought it might be worthy of being used for crafting. After taking a quick look, though, he found he was mistaken. Nothing more than deadwood, he tossed it away and turned his attention back to the fight at hand.
