Cresting the top of the stairs after his battle with the Bandit Lieutenants, Brax found another group waiting on the second floor, eager for combat and out for blood, his to be specific.  Before they were able to react he struck out, tackling the first one before his body began moving in response, his Trample Act activating and finishing the rest off with a final two sweeping motions of his weapon.  As their pixels dispersed, he took a moment to observe the damaged decadence the 2nd floor had to offer.  He also slowed his breathing, his currently revved up physical state a result of the two battles he had just previous engaged in, back to back.

As he calmed down, his eyes swept over the 2nd floor landing.  A rug lay beneath his booted feet, a faded royal red with gold trim, much like what he had noticed down below in the 1st floor foyer.  It extended horizontally from his current position, going right to left from one wing to the next.  It looked as if the floor was divided in half, an east wing and a west wing that began at the ends of the landing he was standing upon.  A wooden railing protected the edge, though it was broken in places and warped in others, leaving much to be desired as far as protection was concerned.  Finally, before him lay another set of stairs leading up to a rather regal looking door, probably a throne room of sorts where the lord of the castle held sway.

His eyes looked over his options: the east wing, the west wing, or the throne room.  Knowing that the third floor probably was home to the 'Boss' of the area, Brax knew he was not yet ready to make that journey, not yet strong enough to complete the task.  Instead, he would have to rely on the east or west wings for practice and training first.  Neither one would be wrong, and not knowing what lay in each, he chose to first explore the east side.

Crossing the hallway to his right, he strode purposefully over to the East Wing.  His armored feet crunched softly on the carpet, several splinters of wood broken off of the banister strewn about the floor making sound beneath his boots.  His armor clanged as he made his way, unfortunately alerting any enemies to his presence if they were paying attention.  It was the unfortunate curse of his choice to bear the load of heavy armor, but it was a price he would pay for protection.

And so it was, that a group of bandits turned the corner from the East Wing, hearing the intruder coming from the other side.  He sighed as they came, raising his weapon to fend off their attacks.  The ambush managed to allow them the chance to strike at him hard, blows from their weapons raining on his armor and weapon.  He responded in kind, throwing his shoulder at the first one he could, leading him into his Trample Act, the last two sweeping strikes connecting with power and cleaving the bandits in two.

After the battle was over, Brax turned the corner to observe the East Wing in it's totality.  The hallway itself was quite spacious, rooms branching off of the main corridor.  A high ceiling made the room feel cavernous, much higher than should have been possible given the dimensions he had seen outside.  Then again, computer engineering being what it was, Brax could have passed through some sort of portal when he walked in the door, leading him into an area that defied the laws of physics.  You never know.

Large pieces of artwork dotted the walls, their paint faded with time and misuse, both the art and the walls.  The walls themselves were cracked and broken in places, allowing light to stream in from outside.  Drapes covered several of the broken spaces, protecting windows that were no longer there.  The curtains were ripped and tattered, the fabric frayed at the seams as they hung from high above.

A couple rooms branched off of the main throughway, wide and imposing doors standing guard in silence save for the creaking of their wooden frames.  He walked over to the first one, pushing hard at the heavy planks that barred his entry.  Upon his access, he saw an area that matched the decaying decadence from the hallway, more couches and rugs and things strewn about.  Also, standing guard inside were several more bandits, turning to look at the man who dared to disturb them.

These guards seemed to share the strength of the Lieutenants down below, the supposed joys of the RNG system at work.  They brandished their blades and rushed Brax all at once, with him only able to dodge two attacks before being hammered by the last two, spinning around from the force of the blows.  He managed to halt his turning, planting his feet and tackling the first one he could, his Trample Act kicking it monumentally to finish the battle swiftly.  Two large sweeps of his axe later, the only thing left of the powerful mob was their dropped loot and vanishing pixels floating into the air.

He searched the room for anything of note, any materials that might have been left behind for an adventurer to find, but a thorough examination revealed nothing of the sort.  The decadence of the room was in appearance only; no gold or silver trinkets, not even a hint of materials suitable for crafting were to be found.  Brax exited the way he came, passing through the large door leading back to the hall.

The rest of the rooms were much the same, beautiful artwork damaged by time and the bandits littering the areas, with tables and chairs and other pieces of furniture lying about.  But, despite the large amount of 'stuff' that populated the expanses, there was nothing truly of note in any of them.  'What is a treasure hunt without any treasure?' Brax thought silently to himself.  'How can a place, with enemies laying in wait around every corner, not possess a single solitary hint of anything of value?'

It was as if the entire locale was simply a means by which to prove oneself in combat.  The only thing worth anything in the place was the mobs and the loot they possessed.  It was an entirely disappointing situation, though for Brax, he was only frustrated with the fact that his search had only led him to a training facility and not a treasure hunting locale.  On the subject of farming mobs for loot, as Brax exited the last room at the end of the hall, he noticed another group of bandits come around the corner into his view from the hallway between the two wings.

They failed to notice Brax all the way at the end of the room, allowing him some manner of surprise in his attack planning.  He hid inside to doorway of one of the art filled rooms, waiting for them to advance to his position.  The mob began to cross the hall, after a few minutes passing by his hiding place.  He waited until all four had passed by before he struck, planting his feet and rushing the one closest to him.  A shoulder barrage sent the bandit flying back into it's peers, and his body began moving through his Trample Act as he moved forward, making sure to catch the entire mob in his arc of destruction.  They left behind a bit of col upon dying, which he scooped up before moving on.

Brax made his way back into the main hallway, crossing through on his trip to the West Wing.  Not much left to explore as far as the East was concerned, so it was time to see what the West had to offer.  It couldn't be any worse than what he had found in the East, right?  Or, at least, that was what he told himself.  Brax simply wanted to find something to have made this trip worth all the effort he had poured into it.

At the end of the hallway leading to the West Wing, he found a door blocking his path.  Not a large door, by any means, but solid enough that he knew it would take a while to break through, if he had to, which he did not.  The door opened at his insistent pushing, the hinges creaking rather loudly in the expanse of the hall.  Brax strode through and found himself in yet another hallway lined with rooms galore, a long stretch of rooms on opposite sides going all the way down in either direction from his position.

It seemed the West Wing was the living quarters.  Several of the doors were broken down, but enough were closed up to warrant a thorough examination of the entire area.  Brax saw at least a dozen doors lining the throughway, six on either side with two facing each other all the way down.  At his emergence into the hallway, another mob appeared from the room closest to him, looking for the man who made the creaking sound from opening the door.

The bandits came at him with weapons held ready, charging into the fray with nary a care for themselves.  Brax was easily able to turn the moves into his advantage, weaving in and out and around their attacks with the power of the Epitaph guiding him.  Their carelessness proved to be their downfall, for as he spun out of the way a final time, he got down low and pushed off strong, hitting the closest Bandit with a shoulder charge and starting up his Trample Act Sword Art, sweeping through their ranks with twin strikes from his axe.  It clove through their armor like it was paper, shattering their bodies into so many pixels.

He would need to rest soon; the exploration of the castle was wearing Brax down.  The enemies were not the issue; no, it was the lack of success at finding any suitable materials other than what was dropping from the mobs that was affecting his reserves.  One of the rooms here would provide an adequate place to lie down for a moment, recover his energy and rest his frame, though not for long since it was full of enemy NPCs and not safe at all.

Brax turned to the left, searching the rooms as he went.  Most were unsuitable for resting purposes, either due to the entryway being destroyed and barring access, or the room itself damaged beyond repair.  Many of the cracks and breaks in the walls he had seen from the outside were on this side, opening up the rooms to the elements from beyond.  No one could reasonably be able to rest in such a place as that, with the sun streaming in full force through a makeshift sunroof broken out of the ceiling and wall.  The beds, too, were in such a state of disrepair that no self respecting individual would dare attempt to catch some zzz's on them.

Not finding anything on the left side, Brax made his way to the other end, where the doors looked a tad bit better.  He was just about to open the first one when there was a rumbling sound coming from the last door on the left.  The door swung wide open and out poured another mob of bandits, springing another ambush on Brax as he stood unprepared with the handle of the door he was about to enter in his hand.
