[F3-SP] A Time To Hunt - Bagging up those Wintery Flakes, Beginning Again pt. 11 - COMPLETE!

Recommended Posts

Brax kept banging on his armor, either his gauntlets onto each other or his axe on his chest, receiving another tone every time from the same direction.  What could be making that sound, he wondered?  Could there be a program of some sort wandering the Forest?  If so, why?  The man was intrigued, the sensation almost domineering in it's power over him.  He wanted to find the creature, whatever it may have been.  Over rock and root and twig, Brax leapt over every obstacle in his path in pursuit of the noise, and soon he found a mob of enemies blocking his path.

The mists had coalesced into more substantial combatants; their forms were much more solid than the 'ghosts' he had previously dealt with.  Still, their bodies were wrapped in darkness, black shadows swirling about the edges of their frames which appeared elfish in nature.  Swords formed in their hands, pitch-black blades that gleamed darkly in the fungal illumination.  As Brax watched, they shifted positions, here one moment and gone the next.  He swiped his axe out at one, only to hit thin air; another appeared behind him and stabbed at his back, drawing red pixels from the wound.  He turned to face the creature and it disappeared.  Eventually, he became sick of the assault, and banged on the ground to vent his frustration.  The tone of his axe seemed to resonate through the shadows, holding them in place for a time.  And a time was all Brax would need; using the distraction, he charged into their midst, his shoulder leading the way into a Trample Act, and his axe dispersed the shadow elves into the darkness from which they came.

His banging did not go unnoticed.  A pinprick of light formed off to his right, and as Brax watched it grew larger and larger until it engulfed his entire body.  He raised his gauntleted hand to his eyes in defense against the brightness, and as it faded he dropped the glove from his face.  In a rare moment of surprise, Brax stood with his mouth gaped wide: he was on the path again, out of the Forest, looking down at the Minotaur guards standing watch over the entrance to the trees.  He closed his mouth, and turned back to return to Delilah Village, his logical brain not understanding the situation.  'Perhaps, it's better if I don't think too hard about it,' he told himself in his mind, and with that he returned to town, desperately in need of a bed and, maybe, a drink.
