Looking through the expansive list of quests left to undertake, he finally found one that promised quite a bit of EXP upon completion: a two day and night trip to Inferno Cavern on the far end of the ninth floor that housed a Field Boss of immense power known as The Cerberus. It offered other rewards, but all Brax saw was a vast amount of experience to be gained from the endeavor. No matter the danger, he knew that his current stats were enough to conquer the beast, and so after swiping through his menu to accept the quest, Brax checked his potions and equipment to confirm he was ready. He decided that for this particular trip, he would outfit himself with some of the accessories he had just acquired, activating the Ring of Thror that would boost his capability to find treasures. From what he understood, the ring was...tainted, and would bend most men to it's will of avarice and greed, but since the man who now possessed it was...relatively unemotional, the ring's power held no sway on his heart. Thus, Brax could benefit from it without any distractions. Satisfied with his preparations, he headed out of Vulcan as swiftly as he could, ready for the quest to begin. First, however, was the multiday hike to Inferno Cavern. After leaving the settlement, Brax checked his map for the cavern's location, finding that the best route led east from where he stood. Unsheathing his axe and leaving it at the ready, he began the trek with a careful eye out for any treasures he might be able to find, now that his new ring was enhancing his skills. Despite the increased detection, though, the barren soil and rocky ground bore no materials to be had, treasure or otherwise. But what he did find, as he travelled, was another pack of Fire Wolves roaming the desolation with malice in their burning eyes. They took him by surprise, as his thoughts were focused more on treasure than on monsters, and he felt the heat of their tackles as he was thrown to the ground hard. As they circled around to try again, Brax rolled over and leapt to his feet, shaking off the fiery attacks and launching one of his own, an Explode Catapult that ripped through them in explosive fashion. As the pixels from their destroyed remains vanished into the ether, he saw that some loot in the form of chocolate bars had been dropped, and he scooped them up to visually inspect them in earnest. +4 materials +4 Chocolate Bars (+2 LD for a thread) Spoiler On 2/16/2015 at 2:57 AM, Mari said: <<Guardian of Fire>> This quest takes place on Floor 9 This quest is repeatableThis RP will not count in the benchmark Rumors about a three headed dog are floating around Vulcan Village, that spawns a rare potion that gives the user the ability to inflict burn damage. Brax 0 Posted February 10, 2016 Author #2 Share Posted February 10, 2016 (edited) They appeared to be simple chocolate bars, a sweet treat that seemed...rather frivolous to the Stalwart Stoic. But upon closer inspection, and with the help of his status window, Brax found that the dessert item was in fact a booster of decent proportions, able to increase one's treasure hunting skills. Not one to avoid an advantage when given, he consumed one and felt the item's power wash through his body, ending up focused in his head, or more specifically his eyes. They began to glow, and he found his vision becoming much more acute, the better to look for any sort of valuable items. Edited February 13, 2016 by Brax
Brax 0 Posted February 10, 2016 Author #3 Share Posted February 10, 2016 (edited) 'Quite the successful haul,' he mused, eminently satisfied by his newly acquired dessert. The beginnings of a new chapter in his hunting was about to begin, one that would allow Brax to achieve quite a bit of success in the field he sought to master, searching and detecting threats before they became a problem. With that, he finally left the current field of battle in favor of a future one on the way to his prize, the end of the quest. Edited February 13, 2016 by Brax
Brax 0 Posted February 10, 2016 Author #4 Share Posted February 10, 2016 (edited) Brax passed through another set of woods, much like he had on his bandit quest earlier, and the trees here were no different: ruined husks of burned out bark, twisted into indecipherable shapes and weird designs by the fires that warped them. The forest ran for a long ways, and by the time he reached the end of it, night had already fallen. With no safe zones nearby, Brax searched for a decent cave or hole in the ground to offer even the slightest bit of protection, so as to avoid the opportunity of dying from a sneak attack whether by monster or man. The stones began to fuse together, coalescing into a mob of Stone Golems made of black igneous rock, hardened by the heat and pressure that pervaded the area. Lumbering towards Brax, the metal clad man managed to parry the attacks of the two in front, but felt a flash of pain and was battered to the side by two more that had formed up behind him. Rolling out of the blow, he managed to regain his footing as the Golems attacked once more. Setting his axe low and to the side, he felt the familiar rush of power that heralded his Explode Catapult's activation, and when the mob got close enough he unleashed it, rocking the hollow stone grotto with the ensuing shockwave and beating them back in pieces. +8 materials +1300 col Edited February 13, 2016 by Brax
Brax 0 Posted February 10, 2016 Author #6 Share Posted February 10, 2016 (edited) The cave sufficiently cleared, Brax found a dark spot in the back far enough away from the entrance so that no enemies would be able to see him. Keeping his eyes trained fully on the entrance, he slipped off into dreamland and remained that way till morning. The sun rose outside and shed a bright light into the heart of the hollowed out stone, forcing Brax to open his eyes and shield them from the gleam. He stepped outside, stretching once and observing what the dawn had brought. Edited February 13, 2016 by Brax
Brax 0 Posted February 10, 2016 Author #7 Share Posted February 10, 2016 (edited) The overcast sky burned a dull orange-grey across the clouds, and the usually humid heat was not quite so bad due to a warm breeze coming from the west. The clouds shifted in response to the wind, as well, moving fast against the sky like cotton on a conveyer belt. Checking for tracks around the cave and finding nothing much to worry about, Brax again picked up his weapon from where he had set it the night before and made good time towards the Inferno Cavern. Brax 0 Posted February 10, 2016 Author #8 Share Posted February 10, 2016 (edited) The day moved swiftly onwards, with Brax going against the journey of the sun. For as the sun passed by overhead from the east to the west, the heavily armored man was passing from west to east. He crossed magma pools and lava rivers, leapt over rocky terrain and more burned out forests. And for the most part, due to the speed he had to maintain, Brax avoided the majority of the mobs that crossed his path, for if he was to reach his destination in a quick and orderly fashion, he would have to keep a brisk pace of travel that could not be kept if battle was constantly engaged in. Brax found this out as he rested for a time on the edge of a magma pool in the waning minutes of the afternoon. He had to take a breather as well as a water break to keep himself from overheating in the oppressive conditions. As he finished off several bottles of water, he failed to notice some shapes rising from the depths of the pool, taking form as a mob of Magma Elementals, eyes like fire and dripping lava as they lumbered towards him. In fact, Brax was blown away by a magma projectile thrown at him from the Elementals, bashing him against a nearby rock formation and dazing him for a moment. As he recovered, he saw the creatures getting too close for comfort, so after dashing over to his weapon were it had fallen after he was struck, Brax set his axe low to the side and activated his Explode Catapult. The three earth-shattering blows rocked the burning magma, throwing chunks of the stuff into the air and onto the rocky surroundings, and destroyed the animated forms with extreme power. Their bodies collapsed as the energy behind them vanished, leaving only some loot behind in response. +4 materials +1300 col Edited February 13, 2016 by Brax
Brax 0 Posted February 10, 2016 Author #10 Share Posted February 10, 2016 (edited) Leaving behind the rest stop and the remains of the Elementals, Brax made swift progress in his journey for the rest of the day. His search for a safe location was much more successful this time than the last, for he was able to procure a small niche in the crook of a formation of jagged stones that could be covered up by more stones for added secrecy. Turning over once or twice in his small shelter to find a comfortable spot in his heavy armor, Brax eventually managed to get some rest for a few hours. Tomorrow would be a big day, the day he would enter Inferno Cavern and complete his quest. Edited February 13, 2016 by Brax
Brax 0 Posted February 10, 2016 Author #11 Share Posted February 10, 2016 (edited) His sleep was slightly plagued with dreams involving hounds and fire, easy enough to interpret since he was on a quest involving such things. Beyond the obvious, nothing else bothered the stoic before the hours had passed by, and when his status alarm went off he awoke. Pushing the rocks covering the entrance of his shelter, Brax stretched a few times to work out the cramped kinks his virtual body had developed while pseudo-trapped in the hole. Looking at his map once more, he found that the cavern was no more than an hour or so away. Edited February 13, 2016 by Brax
Brax 0 Posted February 10, 2016 Author #12 Share Posted February 10, 2016 (edited) He was quite ready to finish up the quest and claim his rewards. For too long had he been stuck on the ninth floor, and he was ready to begin moving once more up the ladders of Aincrad. Once he had finished with this particular quest, Brax would most likely return to a lower floor for hunting, as he had completed most if not all of the available quests he could complete relatively solo. A few more trips and he would be at level 25, which was a turning point for most adventurers due to tiered gear. He would be able to received the second level of equipment, strengthening himself enough so as to be able to face even greater challenges, specifically dungeon diving all by himself. That was the goal, the task currently before him. Edited February 13, 2016 by Brax

It did not seem overly impressive in the stoic's mind, but since it held one of the Field Bosses it could not be all bad. As he stepped inside an overwhelming heat pulsed through his armored frame, cooking him in his armor and dealing a modicum of damage to his health before he was able to recover. 'So, this is why they call it 'Inferno' Cavern,' thought Brax as his sweat poured out of him like a water faucet. The heat from the cave was nothing compared what he would soon face. Tongues slavering out of their mouths and saliva dripping from sharpened fangs, the hounds attacked with gusto, moving faster than Brax had expected them to. The force of their tackles knocked the man to his knees and threw him against the burning rock walls, crisping his skin on contact. 'These...are much more powerful than the board indicated, almost as if they were...Greater Hellhounds,' was the next thought that ran through Brax's head as he rolled off of the rock walls and readied his axe for an Explode Catapult. As the energy peaked he let the attacks fly, putting the fiery dogs in their place as his shockwave tore them apart, vibrating the cave and dispersing their pixels. It was the symbol of the armor he wore, the Pactagonal Knights that continuously wafted at the edge of his memories, trying to remind him of what his life had been before his accident. It was...the key to his memories, and finally he had managed to exorcise it from his mind and into the real world, so to speak. The object focused both his hand and his eyes, granting him increased vision and confidence in his actions, thus allowing Brax to see well enough to continue and have...well, faith...that all would be okay. He recognized them both from the pictures provided by the quest, as well as the stat line he could see above their heads, for these beasts were much more inline with the quest parameters themselves, unlike the Greater Hellhounds standing guard at the entrance to the Inferno Cavern. Readying his axe for battle, Brax allowed the snarling beasts to make the first move, which they enacted by flanking him and attacking from all sides. His armor, while more than a little uncomfortable due to the intense heat, was more than sufficient to ward off the bulk of their strength, and he countered with his own intense blow from the Sword Art Explode Catapult. The resulting shockwave blew through the weak Hellhounds with immense power and split them like paper leaving nothing behind, not even pixels in the aftermath. Brax 0 Posted February 11, 2016 Author #19 Share Posted February 11, 2016 (edited) The Hellhounds were no match for his Grandmaster Arts nor his own inner fire, stoked by the symbol of The Pactagon. It brought him no small amount of strength to wield a symbol from his past, whatever it may mean, and to have it help guide his steps in the darkness was...invigorating. It did not emotionally charge him, the symbol unable to rouse the intense emotions he had experienced, but it gave him...purpose and drive, allowing Brax to attach to a past he wanted to remember so badly. With that strength of heart and devotion, he left the battlefield for the Cerberus itself. Edited February 13, 2016 by Brax
Brax 0 Posted February 11, 2016 Author #20 Share Posted February 11, 2016 (edited) Walking into the Field Boss room, Brax couldn't see anything at first. The tunnel he currently was passing through had nothing to light the way, only an oppressive heat that threatened to strangle the life from his bones. The Pactagon kept his path straight, though, and soon he found himself at the end of the passageway facing the Three Headed Demon Dog, Cerberus. The large Field Boss was an imposing site, with fire brimming from both it's eyes and the many mouths it possessed. Edited February 13, 2016 by Brax
