Sam Lago was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, but moved 3 years later, after his mother died, to New York City, New York. There, his father took a job at a museum, acting as a tour guide, while Sam underwent the standard K-12 education, discovering that he was terrible at sports, but was more of a fast learner. He enjoyed chess, but started competitive gaming before he became great at chess. Soon, he started competing in a few after-school gaming tournaments, but never won any. Nonetheless, he continued playing and practicing. His father, knowing his love of gaming, saved up money for his 15^th birthday, and bought him SAO unknowing of the unfortunate consequences.
Virtues:
Logical: This stemmed from his chess games, when he started at 11 years old. He tries to predict others, though not always successfully. However, it does help him in sports, knowing the general direction someone will move. However, this can be a flaw, as not all humans act logically.

Enthusiastic: Once he starts, he enjoys it, regardless of who’s winning. Though it isn’t seen often, he loves competition and encouraging others, especially underdogs. He admires the pro’s skill, instead of complaining that he lost.

Brave: When push comes to shove, he isn’t afraid to act up, but only if it goes past a certain point. He doesn’t enjoy getting dirty, both literally and metaphorically. While this is counterbalanced by his shyness, determination makes him a deadly enemy.

Determined: Reading this post fills you with determination. He doesn’t like giving up, even when all seems lost. He is convinced that he always has a chance (i.e.: 10-0 with 2 seconds left on the clock in hockey). He will try until he is frustrated, and try again once he is cooled down.

Flaws:
Lazy: While he could have been smarter, and stronger, he was too lazy to do any of the stuff. If he doesn’t have a reason, he is easily dissuaded from doing it. This may have stemmed from elementary school, when he realized he wasn’t great at sports, so he didn’t bother trying.

Shy: He is often silent and awkward in front of people he doesn’t know. He doesn’t like to speak up and would much rather not say something important than be the center of attention. Over time, this was quenched, but meeting new people still makes him uncomfortable.

Indecisive: Most major decisions take at least a day to choose. While he takes a while to think, flipping a coin will help him realize which one he really wants. It came from chess, when he realized every move mattered, but it may have mattered a bit too much for him.

Hot headed: He is impatient and not particularly understanding. Fortunately, he cools off quickly. Ever since he was a child, he had trouble waiting for more than a few minutes. He especially hated waiting for Christmas and his birthday.
