[PP-F1] Digging My Potato. (Kyr & Lancelot)

House Rules:

Spoiler

This is a gathering thread, meaning that each of us will roll on every post. If you find something, great! However, we are out in the fields. So, that means there is an inherent risk. If your roll includes a 10 on the MOB die, a mob will spawn in. It will have the min stats to drop loot which will be based off Lancelot. Any questions, let me know. Otherwise, have fun!

The sun hung high in the sky, warmer than most days. Compared to life before SAO, this season would have equated to summer. As a resident of a giant floating castle, Snow never really figured out if there existed seasons in SAO. Since she never left the first floor, the girl only assumed that the warmer or hotter months had to do with Aincrad's position over whatever terra forma below.

The young blonde looked to the sun, her arm hung over her eyes to block the light. The teen's fair skin glistened with the nectar of hard labor. Snow drew her arm across her damp forehead before tending to the gardens just outside the city gates. Here, this close to the walls, mobs were nearly non existent. Those that did spawn or wander over usually met the untimely end of a material hunter's blade.

Snow knew this life better than the one Daire pursued. Quiet, simple, and relaxing, Snow continued to dig through the vegetation. Carrots, tomatoes, peas, cucumbers, lettuce, and the occasional potato grew in rows of rich soil. Well, they weren't like the real world, but they were SAO's equivalents to those common veggies. Once the planted seed's timer matured, the fully ripe plant would spawn into place.

Snow fiddled with one of the tomato plants known as a "Kogoro Fruit" and plucked the red and blue speckled fruit from the vine. In her soiled, gloved hands, she examined it for impurities. As she turned the fruit over, she noticed a small hole the size of a pea. She brought it close to her eyes with a squint. From the hole emerged a small worm with a mouthful of tiny little teeth.

"Ack!" Snow spat as she lobbed the thing out to the field in disgust.

Salt scented winds whipped across the usually still lake. The sun sparkling its reflection in the blue tinted mirror of watery waves. The day seemed nice enough, pleasant even in the fact that Lancelot had the ocean smelling lake to herself. A serenity she didn't find too often. A smile happily displayed itself, as she waltzed to the dance of the winds, meandering along the crystal azure bank, enjoying every breath of the salted air before she would have to get to work.

Looking at the time, her lower lip bean to protrude as a pout formed on her facial features. The real reason she had come, was here. With word from some information brokers, the lass had managed to figure out the best time to go gem sifting from this lake here. Rumor has it, the bank is capable of generating gems if she sifts through it long enough. Being that she was officially an Artisan, meant that she would have to gather both wooden and gem-like materials.

Digging into the bank, she swiped through her inventory and produced a sift. Dipping it into the edge of the bank, she allowed the water to carry all the rocks and potential gems the lake had to offer. Letting it wade for several moments, she finally pulled the sift out and rummaged through it's contents. She wasn't surprised to see the usual white speckled stones lying at the bottom of her sift. Tossing the stones out, she placed the sift into the water once more and waited.

Kyr tended not to explore close to town, since there was hardly ever anything of import that close to the safe zone. Everything in SAO worth seeking out brought people from their comfort zones and brushed them perilously close to death. No risk, no reward became the mantra of many thrillseekers within the game, but also, the death knell of so many unfortunate glory chasers.

It came as a surprise when a rotten tomato splashed against him, the impact more of an annoyance than a real problem. "Hey, watch where you throw those things," he called out toward the girl who seemed to be disgusted. The tomato quickly dissipated, but it left no trace on his clothing. "You can't just chuck those things willy nilly. Besides..." he walked closer to investigate, and it clicked.

"Hey, you're that girl!" She had been the Shieldmaiden who approached him on the edge of the forest a few night's past. "At least the fear motif is consistent, I guess," he muttered. Then, "you're pretty excitable, miss. You should be more careful, though. People can take damage outside the safe zone, and you never know where what you throw is gonna end up."

It felt silly to chide someone over a tomato, so he shrugged it off almost as quickly as he had come up in arms. "I'm Kyr, by the way," he introduced himself. The last time their paths crossed, he hadn't had the chance. "Good to formally meet you, this time around."

Snow continued her sifting through the vegetation, trying to find something of use to bring back to the shop. Her eyes spotted another Kogoro Fruit but the moment she placed her hand on it, she could tell it wasn't quite ripe. If she plucked it now, she'd only be holding a handful of sharded data.

"Hmph," she grunted with a sour look on her face. Luck wasn't going her way today.

Then, the voice of a familiar stranger sounded in the distance. Snow looked through the vegetation just in time to see the tomato she chucked burst into glowing shards. Her crystalline blue eyes widened.

"I am so, so sorry!" she apologized. "People don't usually hang around the garden very long unless they're gathering. I didn't think I would --"

She stopped herself mid sentence.

"Sorry," she looked up to him with a smile. Her face speckled with dirt and all the markings of a long day.

"I'm Snow," she continued, dusting herself off and selecting the unequipped option from her gardening gloves. She extended her hand to him.

"It's nice to officially meet you, Kyr. Are you out laying in the fields again today?"

She offered him her smile.

Water sloshed around the sift, as Lancelot kneaded the the metal saucer in and out of the bank. Her arms were like that of a machine as she rhythmically moved the sift back and forth. Feeling as if the time was right, she plucked the sift from the current and inspected it once again. This time something caught her eye. A red gem gleamed as she extracted it from the usual suspects of stones and gravel. Placing it in her inventory, Lancelot placed the sift back into the water again. A few more and I'll call it good, she thought.
