<Earning a Living> A Pot o' Potions [SP-F8](Complete)

Recommended Posts

Reflecting that hope, the SAO-based god again and creator of this realm, his excellency, Akihiko, decided to give Darius a bit of luck. While exploring, towards the end of his second our out and about in this giant-sized forest, Darius found a mushroom that counted as a material. It was an odd color, being a dark green with red streaks. He was surprised it wasn't poisonous when he grabbed it, as things that were normally poisonous were green. Or maybe that was just a stereotype, like the stereotype that this forest was gigantic. Maybe everyone was just exceptionally small when they entered this floor, being sized down to make the floor seem huge? Darius gave a chuckle at the thought of him behind action-figure sized, the edges of his lips tugging upwards. He still had three hours to kill so he continued exploring, hoping to find more.

At the end of the third hour, he had again found nothing. He had traveled some distance away from the town, and halfway through his search he had started heading back. This way he would arrive back in town at the time he would have to go for his final lesson. He stopped for a moment on a rather high up branch, looking out towards the view, or more specifically, the drop. He could see all sorts of things swimming in it. All sorts of things that were bad. He wondered what they preyed on, and more importantly, what might prey on them. Perhaps they were the top of the food chain though, and he wouldn't have to worry about something stronger than what was waiting in those murky depths. Soaking in a minute more of the view in front of him, Darius continued on. Now heading back towards town, he continued in his search for materials as he explored.

And so, for the fourth hour in a row of exploring, Darius was left empty handed. One for four seemed ok, considering he had gotten one for eight odds the day before. Darius stopped to rest for a bit, contemplating on what today's lesson might be about. Considering they had covered most of the material that the old man had talked about in the basics, the only left was ranks and how to run a shop. They seemed simple enough to Darius. You got a shop and grinded until you got a high rank, just like any other skill, except this was for crafting instead of fighting. Idly tearing up small spores from the patch of moss he sat on, Darius let his mind wander aimlessly for a few minutes, resting his feet. When he felt chipper again, he got up and headed out. It was the last hour of his trip, and he was almost back to town. It didn't stop him from looking for materials.

As Darius returned to the outskirts of town, night had finally settled. It was just after dinner, and Darius was ready to go get a quick bite to eat before heading over to the old man's place. Just as he was entering town, he noticed a patch of glowing bugs, and with a last ditch effort, he spent a few minutes to catch one. They were slippery, in a metaphorical sense, and had evaded his grasp for quite some time. When he finally caught one, the rest dispersed and a material was added to his inventory. Good thing too, for he now had two total for his exploration. Overall, he had six. With a sense of victory, Darius went to the inn. As he entered though, he dampened his mood to seem truly neutral, like he always was. He enjoyed a hard earned dinner.

After finishing his supper, Darius headed to the old man's house. He enjoyed the walk, going slower than usual. He expected that today was the last day of his training. training in theory anyway. He had just learned what alchemy was all about, but had yet to actually practice it. No doubt, the old man was just giving him the skills he needed, and would then let him go out on his own. He knocked before entering, seeing the old man waiting for him. He sat at the table which he had spent hours at the past few days and began to learn. The old man went into detail about each rank of an alchemist, what they needed to level up, and what benefits each rank had. After that, he ran through the hoops that it took to run a shop, expressing the concern of setting right prices and being nice to your customers. After sixish hours, Darius was finally finished with his training and the old man sent him on his way. Darius was now a beginner alchemist.
