[SP-F2] >>Breaking the Unbreakable<< (Quest)

Recommended Posts

Hunter arrived on the Second Floor, after exploring for a bit outside the city he ran into an old man. The Old Man would fall down and rub his butt as he would begin to laugh, and Hunter would fall down and drop his Axe, he would then look up to see the Old Man laughing and not angry. This made Hunter laugh too and after a few minutes of laughter Hunter and the Old Man stopped and looked at each other.

"Young man...what are you looking for out here?"

He would ask.

"Just some adventure and possibly some ways to find some new skills. Why do ya' ask Old Timer?"

Hunter would retort looking to the Old Man who would begin to stand up. Hunter saw the Old Man look to have a bit of trouble, so Hunter rushed to the Old Man and helped him to his feet and dusted him off a bit.

"ah, thank you Youngster...say, I do need a spot of help up ahead, there is a boulder blocking my path. Mind helping an Old Timer like me out?"

The Old Man would ask suddenly. Hunter just nodded as he dusted himself off and picked up his Axe and followed the Old Man patiently just like he would have done in the Real World.

As Hunter and the Old Man arrived to their destination...A giant boulder securing the entrance to a cave.

Hunter looked to the old man suspiciously as he almost got his Axe ready just in case he needed to strike down the Old Man...he hoped he would not have to.

"You can put away your Axe...It is of no use to you here."

The Old Man said as he beckoned Hunter to come closer.

"I need you to move this boulder...with just your hands, break it, move it, I do not care. Weapons have no effect on the boulder. It is the doorway to my home after all. I you manage to move or break the boulder...I will teach you a valuable skill."

The Old Man said, but Hunter was already hooked, it never really took much when someone challenged him to a feat of strength. Always one of the "bigger guys" for his age, he took pride in dealing damage and providing services only someone of his build could.

"Alright Old Man, I am gonna hump this damn boulder of yours into submission. Challenge accepted, now time to bring the noise!"

Hunter would say in his normal macho fashion.

Hunter began by going to the side of the boulder and beginning to push. He tried and tried with his full might, straining against the weight of the rock before finally slumping down against the boulder.

"[censored]...this is almost impossible...but I need to keep trying, besides... The added skill would be worth the trouble."

Hunter said as he unequipped everything that would hinder his movement. He then began to look around for something that he might be able to wedge underneath the boulder to help and push it out of the way.

Man hours passed and more and more Hunter was becoming tired as he tried to move the boulder. He was beginning to get pissed as he eventually took the branch he had to use as a wedge and he swung it against the rock in anger. He did not let out a cry of anger, but he instead threw the broken branch. He had to really fight back the urge to want and equip his Axe, but the Old Man told him earlier it would be no use so instead Hunter just went back to trying to push the boulder out of the way.

Night came too soon for Hunter... there was also nowhere for him to go except for the nearest tree to climb. Hunter sighed and climbed a damn tree so he could get rest even though everything in his head told him to keep working towards his goal. He was happy though at least...there was no time limit on the quest, and at his level, he could use the extra skills. He soon slipped into a sleep as he was just bidding his time till daybreak.

Hunter awoke at day break, just barely hanging onto the tree. Below him was the Old Man, and he was training. It seemed as if the Old Man knew some sort of Martial Arts Skill...but Hunter had not seen it on his list, so he hopped down beside the Old Man who moved like water and took Hunter down without missing a beat.

"Always be aware of your surroundings young'n...never know who...or what is lurking about. Now get back to work."

The Old Man commanded, as if scripted. Hunter began to wonder if the man was even real, perhaps an A.I. NPC, but who new at the moment. Hunter sighed and stood up, ready to get back to work.

Hunter began to stretch as he got ready to get going at the rock again today. After a few minutes he was limber enough to start running to the rock. On his way he stopped to slay a few Boars and get their leather for a jacket he needed. It was a few minutes before he got to the Boulder. He felt a bit winded, but took out a piece of bread and water from his inventory and had his breakfast before he began to search for a new stick to act as a wedge.

"Here sticky sticky sticky."

He called out almost comicly

Hunter soon found what he needed and began to dig around the boulder thinking that maybe the boulder was stuck there because it was supposed to be. After about 20 minutes of digging he had a trench wide and deep enough that in theory the boulder should roll right out of the way. Hunter began to push as he slowed his breathing. He fought against the urge to give up as his feet fell into a familiar divit in the ground his feet bore out the day previous.

"I see you are still trying to push the boulder...moving is good for one who is able to move something, but what if perhaps the object in front of you refuses to move?"

The Old Man would ask Hunter, Hunter was prepared and thought about an answer while still pushing against the boulder with his might. Right as Hunter opened his mouth though, he was cut short.

"Have you tried...to break said object, make it submit to your will...This is what you must learn. To submit to defeat, or learn new ways to face a challenge."

The Old Man said and just as Hunter went to look for the Old Man...He was gone...like he was just a figment of Hunter's imagination.

Hunter took a break after the Old Man was proven to be gone, Hunter was confused, but knew better than to question the world...the Cardinal System knew what it was doing, and if it decided that an omnipotent Karate Master was worth his time...then perhaps it was. Hunter then remembered the stances that the Old Man was using and he stood up and tried to mimic them as best as he could.

"Damn old man...I could be waist deep in women right now at the pub if it wasn't for him...and of course my quest to get stronger."

Hunter sighed as he performed rudimentary Karate stances.

Hunter was through practicing his Karate Stances as he went back to the boulder. He then took a stance in front of the Boulder and he began to focus. Gathering up his energy he put his palm against the boulder then held out his hand to his fingers touching only. He then suddenly moved with his full force and punched against the boulder. Pain shot up his arm as he felt as if he had cracked every bone in his hand.

"OH MY GOD THIS IS FUC*ING INTENSE!"

Hunter screamed out and reeled in his arm rubbing his knuckles.

Hunter was hard at work testing the boulder with his strength. He had been punching the damn boulder for nearly 30 minutes, and his knuckles had paid the price. Though no blood exists in this game, this world had a way of indicating injury, red angry glowing marks on his knuckles and his lost health. Hunter took his hands away as he sighed not seeing any sort of movement in the boulder. He began to grow discouraged.

Hunter was taking a break as he drew in the dirt around him, not as a child would do, but as a general would when planning a stratagem. Hunter looked back at the rock and examined it closely to make sure that no funny business was going on and to see that the it was just some unnatural phenomena that seemed to occur naturally in SAO.

"Damn Game Physics are ridiculous."

Hunter groaned as he studied his plans.

Hunter went back to his original plan of moving the boulder from it's spot.

"COME ON YOU BIG BASTARD!"

Hunter yelled out as he sunk his hands into the earth under the boulder as he began to lift. His strength was growing and he could feel it as some dust fell on his head. The boulder had indeed moved a few inches. Hunter smirked as he laid his head on the boulder, but did not slacken his strength.

Hunter began to remember his days training for Football in High School. Listening to Heavy Metal, lifting weights, hitting people, the fights, the fame...He began to remember a song as it began to play mentally in his head. (Self Righteous, This is where it ends). The drums, the guitar, the bass, the god damn lyrics.

"YEAAAAH [censored] BOULDER!"

Hunter yelled as he began to move the boulder, his own feet beginning to sink into the earth, but on the bright side the boulder had moved just a few inches...Hunter was getting stronger indeed.

Hunter finally stopped after nightfall came. He stretched as he turned around. He was surprised when he did and found he was face to face with none other than the Old Man himself.

"Well hello ther Sailor mouth...All of Aincrad could hear you I bet. Anywhoooooo ahh I see that you have managed to move the rock a bit. Now here, let me show you some skills here to help you on your journey as you finish up this quest...I mean favor."

The old man said as he got into a stance where his feet were spread shoulder length apart and his body and arms were rigid as he looked at Hunter with purpose.

Hunter got into the same stance, miming the Old Man's movements with precision. He had gone over what seemed like hundreds of movements with the Old Man as the darkness of night overtook them both. The Old Man did not stop though as Hunter did not either.

Hunter then fell to his ass and passed out then and there. Exhaustion and hunger had overcome him as he did not know if he was now going to wake up.

Hunter awoke the next morning as he reached for his Axe, but was unable to grab ahold of anything. He searched around him franticly for a few moments before discovering that in his inventory was his Axe as well as some food and drink for him. Hunter ate and drank until full and ready to begin his day.

"Ok now back to doing what I know best, moving boulders."

Hunter laughed heartily as he stretched and took his place behind the boulder.

Hunter was finally doing it as he felt the boulder budge. He growled as he looked up to the sky and controlled his breathing to maximize his lifting potential. His strength was showing a bloom of which he would have never seen in the Real World as he began to push the boulder as it rolled. Rock dust began to coat Hunter, but it was alright, he did not mind now as he was more than halfway done moving the boulder.

After several days and many long and trying attempts...Hunter had done it. Through determination and strength he was able to push the boulder out of the way as the Old Man appeared once more to thank him for his services, but he offered no reward. Instead the Old Man just looked at the boulder and sighed.

"I have grown tired of this wretched thing, I can never move it anymore and always have to get help...perhaps I should actually put on a real door. Say...one last thing before ya go youngster...destroy that boulder with what I have taught you."

The Old Man said as Hunter's eyes grew wide with fear AND excitement.

"Ha! I accept your final challenge Old Man."
