[PP-F1] They Aren't Extinct Yet?

Recommended Posts

Dynaon sat down in the Fields, his hands pressed together as he began to go through a deep meditation. It wasn't often these days that he was allowed to be alone; he had met up with Kranzer and promised to make him stronger through the old grind, and now that he had the beauty called Hope on his side, he would be busier than ever with his fans. However, despite that.. the grand King found pleasure in the moments where silence would fill the world around him. His eyes were shut, letting darkness envelop him as he calmed his breathing. "You'll never let it happen again.." Thoughts of the corrupted past threatened to crawl around within his mind, but he pushed them down, not wanting to dwell. He had to focus on his current situation: getting out of this game alive.

He'd never tell anyone how he truly felt. He didn't want that burden on their hands if he was found in an awkward position. The Immortal King had to be stronger than that.

Kranzer stared at the grass so intensely that if such a thing were possibly he'd have burned a hole directly through that small patch of grass. His attempt at gathering some materials had failed which in truth was nothing more than the norm lately. Slowly he stood up and started to walk a little farther away from the Town of Beginnings. As much as he hated to admit it, it seemed like the easiest way to get crafting supplies was to hunt the <<Boars>> and he was so damn thankful Dynaon could read minds. Oh man that would just be a travesty and something he couldn't escape from even if he tried his hardest. He was just reaching the top of one of the small rolling hills that were a common sight in the grassy plains that dominated the first floor. He nearly froze when he saw the very man he'd just thought about sitting down below. For an instant he considered slinking off and taking cover back behind the hill but the fool was unusually quiet for a change.

He grumbled softly as he started down the hill. "Hey. I didn't expect to see you out here all alone... you know sitting and not fighting something." Kranzer would walk within ten feet of Dynaon and not get too closer until he had a better understanding of what was going on.

The corruption was seeping through the pores of his mind. He felt pressure, as if something was aiming to make him crack. To make him weak. He ground his teeth together in the midst of his meditation, a single droplet leaking from the corner of his right eye and streaming down his cheek. He was struggling to keep them away. Just like that, he heard the voice of Kranzer, which completely shattered his concentration. He jerked his head around to see his friend standing behind him, quickly wiping the water away from his cheek and jumping up onto his feet. "Haha, what are you talking about?! I just got down taming five <<Boars>> before you came out here! I just needed a break, my HP was pretty low after that." He let off a happy-go-lucky smile on the outside, but his heart pounded in his chest. It was too close of a call.

He chose to grab some grass in the midst of the conversation, seeing if he could extract any materials from the object. He smiled even wider as the Extraction was successful, granting him a single Material.

When he turned around for an instant Kranzer could have sworn he saw Dynaon wipe something away from his cheek. Was he crying or did Kranzer just imagine it? There certainly didn't look to be any tear stains on his face so ultimately Kranzer opted not to comment on the matter. Especially since the fool boasted about besting five of the beasts before his arrival. Kranzer's brow furrowed but he simply smiled at the man and slid a trade request his way for the gauntlets he had made for him. While he waited for him to accept Kranzer crouched low and took up a handful of grass and his smile deepend when he pulled his hand away to reveal he'd successfully extracted a material from it. The item was stowed away like the rest and then he focused his full gaze upon the man. "Five of them? You don't say. Well i assume you're too tired to continue on then and we might as well take this party back to town," he said with a hint of prayer in his tone.

He highly doubted Dynaon would go for that though so he was prepared to fight some more <<Boars>>. They were proving to be more easily defeated with each day that passed. It was the only reason Kranzer dragged himself outside of the city so often now. The marked improvement served as a source of encouragement for the otherwise indecisive player. Perhaps all he needed was someone to travel with all this time... who'd have guessed.

He laughed heartily as he looked Kranzer over, only to be greeted with a trade request. 'Immortal Grasp'. It definitely sounded cool enough, so the King instantly accepted the trade. "Thank you! I'll try these out right now." He outfitted himself with the pair of gauntlets, opening and closing his fists as he looked them over. The King smiled wide as he let the steel gleam in the sunlight of the fields, seeing the official 'D' symbol take over the back of his hands. He could feel his MIT stat rising to new heights, causing him to flare up with determination. This was the spice he needed in his life. "Let's do this thing!" He noticed one of the <<Frenzied Boars>> hanging around the fields, and he targeted it instantly, taking his blade out and charging for it. He cleaved at its side with ease, managing to chunk off a single HP point.

However, he didn't expect for the Boar to bounce back with a quick charge, digging its tusks into the palms of his hands. It was a <<Critical Hit>>, yet.. he barely felt it. He only took 1 damage, and even then, he instantly regenerated it. Was he finally becoming immortal?! "Ha, you can't even crit me, damn it!"

One of his eyebrows arched in fascination when the <<Frenzied Boar>> hit Dynaon rather hard. Despite the severity of the attack it only took a minute amount of HP off of the fool's gauge which was promptly healed back by the secret effect he kept from Dynaon. "I see those gauntlets will serve you well," he commented idly as he swiped his hand down to open up the main menu. His fingers danced nimbly along the interface as he selected his list of items. His finger hovered over his newly acquired armor <<Merlin's Shroud>>, one which he felt suited him quite well in fact. It almost reminded him of the jacket he often favored back in one of the last jobs he held before trying his hand at the SAO, only to be trapped here. It was like a small reminder of home which went a long way towards soothing his soul. Finally he pressed the option to equip it and a dark grey long coat appeared around his body. It flared up before it settled and fell down just below the back of his knees. The sleeves fell to just below his write and black leather was used to reinforce the torso and around the collar. The emblem of the profile of a lion's head with a crown situated upon its head was emblazoned on the coat's left sleeve.

Kranzer held both of his arms out as he admired his newly acquired item before he leveled his gaze upon the <<Frenzied Boar>>. His hand gripped the hilt of <<Fate's Hand>> and pulled it free from its sheath as he prepared to join in.

Dynaon smiled at the new effects of these gauntlets. Now was the time to try and strike again. He attempted to swing his blade down again, but he wasn't used to the grip on the scimitar with these gauntlets. Due to this, he fucked up the swing, hitting the ground beside the Boar. He felt like he was about to get hit again, but instead, he noticed that the creature had sparkled eyes toward a different direction. Following the beast's gaze, he saw that Kranzer was wearing some pretty nice threads. He must have gotten himself something pretty along with these gauntlets. "Oho~. I like the new clothes. It suits ya!" He laughed confidently as he focused back on the creature, taking his blade out and beginning to kite the little bastard. He waited for Kranzer to come in for a hit.

Dynaon's blade missed its target but it appeared to be more to the fact that hew as unaccustomed to wielding the blade with his newly acquired gauntlets. It wasn't anything he could really be faulted for of course. Though a frown did cross the young man's face and there was a slight crease in his brow. Light glinted off the blades blue steel. The edge was blacker than the leather that had been sewn into the coat but it was offset by the lavender glow that flowed down the length of the blade starting from its hilt. Unlike during the last encounter where Kranzer had taken the brunt of the damage this weapon boasted a higher damage rating than accuracy. So if he hit it would hopefully help put a swift end to the beast.

The grass beneath his feet broke free as Kranzer pushed off he ball of his foot as he'd witnessed Dynaon do countless times before. "Let's see what this blade can do," he shouted as he rushed forward. It struck the <<Frenzied Boar>>  twice in rapid succession though Kranzer's feet didn't carry him passed the beast. In fact he stood there with a wide-eyed gaze when the beast was hurled back several feet only to burst into a cloud of blue flakes that disappated slowly until nothing remained. "Holy crap," he muttered as he lifted the blade for closer inspection. Did... he just practically one shot the thing? Slowly his face turned towards Dynaon. His eyes closed as he let out a fit of nervous laughter. The fingers of his free hand ruffled the hair along the back of his head as he tried to think of something to say. "Well... that was easier than I expected."

As Dynaon took his blade out of the ground and prepared to try hitting the creature again, it was already too late. Kranzer damn near one-shotted the thing right away, watching as the beast flew into the air and evaporated into the little digital particles that made it up. The King whistled as he looked over to the indecisive young man "Well, well, well. Someone's been practicing with his new digs! I've got respect for ya. See how easy it is to take things on if you put a little effort in?" He smiled at Kranzer and flashed him a thumbs up before sitting on the ground, grabbing some grass to attempt harnessing the materials within. "So, you wanna try fighting another after we recover? It seems like they'll be pretty easy with your firepower and my endurance now!" He smiled, despite not getting any materials from the grass.

Kranzer turned his face away so Dynaon wouldn't see the slight flush in his cheeks at the compliment, though it was also a way of the fool saying Kranzer didn't always put in at least a little effort in what he did. The young man could have made a comment on how it was just the new gear but he decided not to argue semantics with the "Immortal King." Instead he walked over towards him only to stop a few paces away. His gaze lowered to his left hip as he pulled the edge of his coat back to reveal the dagger's sheath. He carefully lined the blade's tip up with the opening and put the dagger away. He wasn't overly skilled with that yet so he always took care so he didn't accidentally cut himself or something. Once the dagger was safely secured he crouched down and took a hold of a small batch of grass.

His fingers danced through the various options until he the menu faded only to be replaced with a small item. "Huh," he muttered in disbelief. Not more than thirty seconds ago he'd just totally ruined that <<Frenzied Boar>> and now he successfully found some material among the grass. So far he was two for two on gathering and one for one on hunting. If he was a vain man or even a prideful one he'd make some huge boast about how awesome he was and brag about it. However, Kranzer was rather down to Earth so he simply smiled at his success and then sat down with his knees pulled up close to his chest. That brown-eyed gaze scanned the distant horizon as he listened to Dynaon's question. Did he want to fight? That... was a strange idea. Not too long ago Kranzer would have vehemently denied such requests out of fear of the ultimate failure int his game. Dying. Now though? The idea didn't scare him nearly as much. Maybe it was due to his increase in strength no matter how small it was... or perhaps it was the fact that he had someone he could rely on.

Slowly his gaze shifted back to the "Immortal King." While the man was brash and foolhardy he was at least reliable. Especially in a fight. Kranzer probably stared for longer than was appropriate before he finally nodded. "Yeah I think we can make a successful day of this. Pick up some more materials and any items we get from the boars." Slowly his gaze shifted back towards the distant horizon. His brow furrowed as he realized somewhere along the line he'd changed... and he didn't know if he should be afraid of that fact or not. His hand rifled around in a pocket in his coat before he pulled a piece of bread out. The item was broken in half and one piece was tossed towards Dynaon. Without waiting to see if he'd caught it Kranzer started to nibble on the other half.

Dynaon offered Kranzer a bright smile as he watched him successfully correct a Material from the grass. It seemed like his friend was on a roll today after all. The Immortal King decided to give it a try himself, grabbing a handful of grass to see if he could extract himself something pretty. Not that he was surprised by his own success or anything, but he successfully got himself a Material from the grass he grabbed. Happily putting it into his inventory, he went over by Kranzer and sat down next to him, crossing his legs and pushing his hands against his knees. "You know.. I'm proud of you. You've come a long way from that kid I met who was hiding in the grass. Now you're a natural warrior. You may still have some reserves, but despite them, you keep pushing forward. You may not be on the Frontlines with me due to who you are.. But I won't forget my first friend."'

Kranzer's cheeks flushed again as Dynaon praised him for the skill he'd acquired. Though that was in no small part due to the intervention of Dynaon.. the man who quite literally crashed into Kranzer's life. The Frontlines though... the thought of the fool going there actually terrified the young man. How could he talk about going to such a dangerous place with such little regard? Did he not value his own life? Was he so ready to simply throw it away? No if that had been the case then he wouldn't be fighting so hard. Then he had to go and call Kranzer his first friend. In truth the two only just managed to tolerate the other and the fact he viewed Kranzer as a friend was... unexpected to say the least. Kranzer really didn't know how to respond to that so he kept quiet. His face was angled away so that the fool wouldn't pick up on anything from his expression. For now Kranzer was simply content to walk in silence. That is until another <<Frenzied Boar>> appeared right before them. Kranzer quickly jumped back as he unsheathed his dagger. He didn't move in for the kill just yet as he didn't want to draw its aggro.

In truth he wasn't entirely confident in his ability to take it down in a single hit again and attributed the last one to being a combination of the damage inflicted by Dynaon and sheer luck. For now the beast didn't seem to notice them which was all fine and dandy. Kranzer nodded towards Dynaon as he waited for his opportunity to strike.

Dynaon watched as yet another creature would spawn within the plains, allowing them to get a little more grinding in. He had something new to show off too, now that he gave Kranzer his moment to shine. Going into his inventory, he would quickly equip an item affectionately known as the 'Cactus Armor'. When he asked the person he bought it from what it would do, he was merely told to wait and see. He equipped the item, a piece of pure iron covered in pink stripes with thorns on them. A blush ran up to his cheeks as he put it on, looking at Kranzer. "I-It's not like I like pink or anything, this is just how it was made!" He ground his teeth together. Why wouldn't his friend tell him a very important detail like this? What kind of warrior would wear this?!

He was so distracted by the new equipment that he didn't even bother to attack, and the creature followed suit.
