The coat is often seen open to allow the occasional breeze to pick it coat tails. Underneath he wears a dark brown jacket and slacks along with brown leather boots.

» About: Born into a middle-class American family, Michael lived a happy life full of content. Being the oldest of three, Michael and his siblings were homeschooled by their mother. Outside of his home, Michael had many friends in various extracurricular activities and hobbies. At a young age, he grew into a natural leader and mediator in disagreements. He had a love for martial arts, computers, video games, Japanese animation, swimming, parkour, and, as he would put it, "living life on the edge, just trying not to fall off." Being homeschooled, Michael got the opportunity to have a little freedom in what kind of things he wanted to study; particularly language. When his mother approached him about learning a foreign language, Michael without hesitation begged to study Japanese. With his studies, Michael grew a love for language and culture. He kept this drive and decided to study linguistics in college. His love of knowledge drove him to learn more about the world around him.

Like most people in his generation, he enjoyed playing video games, especially with the rise of VR technology and the development of VRMMORPG. Michael didn't own a VR helmet of his own but one of his friends owned one and Michael had a chance to play with it once or twice. When news of the new game <> broke to the net and gaming magazines, Michael went obsessive. He tried hard to get into the beta but failed. When he heard that only a limited amount of copies were being distributed with no word on when others would open up, Michael would not except failure. On the night that orders were place, Michael made his the second they became available to ensure success. He then bought his own personal VR helmet and counted down the days to delivery. As launch date slowly approached, Michael started psyching himself up and preparing to play until he couldn't see properly. When the day finally came he into his room, bid his friends and family farewell through social media and threw on his helmet. Little did he realize just how final his rattled off farewell would be as he laid on his bed with excitement in his voice as he yelled, "LINK START!" With the real world vanishing from his senses, Michael found himself in the world of his fantasies completely unaware of what he just got himself into...

» Virtues:

Loyal- To those he calls friend, Miaki doesn't hold back. He will support and stand-by his friends giving them advice and respect seeing how invaluable they can be.

Trustworthy- Many times people turn to him when they need someone to talk to and console in. This happening many times has made him coin it as "putting on the white coat [of a therapist]".

Talkative- When Miaki gets talking there is little stopping him. Whether he his teaching someone the ropes, reporting about an explored area, informing someone about something he learned, or in the mood, Miaki is quite the talker.

Old-fashioned gentleman- Being brought up homeschooled, Michael was taught to treat others right and step in to help. He loves to go out of his way for others and help.

Battle-field tactician- Michael always had a mind for strategy. He loved to do mock firefight/combat scenarios from home/base defense to infiltration. He also had a love for RTS games. In an elaborate campus-wide game of tag IRL, Michael single-handedly organized the movements of squads on his team scattered across the campus armed with only his cell phone, his bluetooth, a whistle, and a mental map of the campus. Over the span of a couple hours, his actions of alerting multiple groups of people to enemy movements and quick thinking brought his team victory that night (FYI this actually happened to me).

Natural born leader- If his tactical mind wasn't enough to show for, Michael knows how to lead. Time after time Michael somehow found himself in a leadership role. He always listened for the opinion of others and let their voice be heard. If he saw that someone else were better fit for the case he'd humbly step down and let the other person take control.

Quick thinker- As result of his tactical mind, Michael has a way with coming up with new ideas on the spot. This has helped him many times when in a pinch.

First Responder- When the chips are down, Michael is one of the first to jump and does so in a completely focused and collected manner. Taking after his father, Michael had a way for reacting fast during a state of emergency and always in a professional way. His martial arts training taught him to move light on his feet and be prepared to act in an instant; and his experience (and being son of a first responder) in basic medical and CPR training showed Michael how to assess an emergency situation and how to react properly.

» Flaws:

Precarious- At times when lives are at risk, Miaki would rather be over-prepared which often times is seen as unnecessary.

Overambitious- Miaki strives for success. In the real world, some would see his drive to perform well as borderline obsessive.

Introverted- Although he is certainly not like this all the time, Miaki has his moments where more than one person is too much. Crowds of complete strangers or parties with a bunch of people can leave him physically and emotionally drained at times.

Absent-minded- Tends to be forgetful of things: appointments, obligations, his own stuff. He needs to write things down or have someone make sure he remembers something.

Intolerant- After starting to get a feel of the "real world" when starting college life, he became irritable of people who tend try to provoke him, testing his patience. On occasion he would reach his limit and act irrationally towards these people (sometimes violent). After dealing with this for a while, Michael tends to shut out those who come off as pests and try to annoy him.

Quickly attached- Sometimes Miaki may become attached to a person he just met this makes it hard for him to let them go.

Serious Fighter- Whether it is a boss fight or a friendly duel, Miaki rarely takes fighting seriously.

Battle fury- Since recently acquiring his <> and joining the rankings of the front liners, Miaki has grown in strength faster than he ever thought he would. In a few recent battles he has tapped into a power fueled by blood lust. With every time the power courses through him he craves violence more and more finding pleasure in the destruction of his enemies.

Relationships (optional)

» In the real world Michael didn't particularly want to start a relationship. Seeing his IRL friends hook-up and get dumped or break up made his views on relationships rather different. He feels that a woman deserves his full attention and that if he can't promise that then she is better off with someone else. He found serious relationships to be a distraction from his studies and that he would never find a balance between the two. Living now in Sword Art Online has made things seem less distracting for him.

After a touching reunion with Nikki Styx, Miaki and her began to grow closer and closer together after so much time together.

Story Thus Far (optional)

» Upon learning that SAO was a trap, Miaki tried his hardest to cope. He went through all of the stages one would expect: fear, anger, depression. You name it. But after a several days Miaki learned to take this opportunity and make the most of it. To him, Sword Art Online was as real as life. He made several friends who would help him make up for lost time. There was Kane, a player who happened to live in the States like Miaki did and one who he related to alot. MacGrath who turned out to be one of Miaki's first battle partners. Haine, the one who helped him better understand the battle system of SAO and became a friend he cared for. Kirito, the legendary Black Swordsman, who became an inspiration to Miaki and occasional explorer of unmapped areas in SAO.

Finally making himself known on some of the other floors, he has unlocked the extra skill <> after a grueling and intense trial testing his willpower and psyche. Soon after Miaki unlocked the <> extra skill to further improve his combat skills. He frequents the first and second floors often to give assistance to those in need of help for training.

Thanks to some chance encounters, Miaki has come to know several players who fight on the front lines and was recruited by them. This groups is often known as the 'Assault Team'; consisting of many new friends such as: Clarence, Zelrius, Keith Yudai, and Shanok. Eventually they decided to form their own closed guild named the <>. Their goals are self-centered as they do what is best for themselves and floor clearing. The guild itself is run by a 'Founders Council' which Miaki is a member of. Their finishing off the 7th floor boss has been prevented by rather mysterious means. In a fit of frustration and becoming irritable, Miaki has called upon Keith and Daeron to aid him in a 3 man raid on the 7th floor boss, <> the Red Rock Golem. However, much to their surprise what they actually encountered was <> the Snake Lady.

In a moment of pure wonderful luck, fellow council member Daeron was able to forge a perfect quality katana type blade which Miaki named <>. And with a little help from Keith, Miaki was able to find himself a familiar; Silverwing the falcon. Since this sudden and rapid rise in strength and power, Miaki has started to tap into a greater strength in himself fueled by blood lust. When this happens Miaki becomes sadistic and cuts through his foes with the greatest of pleasure. After the battle is over he feels an emptiness inside where the lustful rage and power once were. What this may hold for Miaki is unknown and his opinion of it is uncertain.

With the <> going rather growing in strength, things seemed to be well for Miaki. However, things changed thanks to an incident on a undisclosed bridge in Aincrad. The attempted suicide of another player turned the scene on the bridge into a chaotic mess. Already having a bounty on his head, the player planned on removing himself from the world but drew the attention of a multitude of people. The final blow was dealt at the hands of a brigade member and the integrity of the Azure Brigade fell under heavy scrutiny. The leader Keith didn't want to associate with players who kill for pleasure and left, placing leadership on Miaki. Shortly there after, Miaki felt everything was wrong and took leave from the Azure Brigade to clear his mind and do some inner reflecting. He now roams Aincrad with no set purpose except for the ties he still has to a few people.

Finally, the 8th floor is open for exploring. Miaki has reunited with some old friends including Elyth, Haine, and Nikki Styx. With the relief of another floor cleared Miaki plans to press forward to the next boss room and help whichever team heads up that boss raid. With hope the eighth floor will be cleared much faster than the seventh. With renewed hope Miaki continues on wondering what the future holds for him.
