[SP-F1] Wild Boars Beware

Ronin equipped his newly crafted sword and headed out of his little shack, leaving the safety of the town and heading back out into the grassy plains.  He had a newfound look of determination on his face and was prepared to show these wild boars a much tougher fight this time around.  Not only had he gained some battle experience earlier, but now he was gaining some cred as a blacksmith and had already produced his first rare item.   It was time now, to put both his combat prowess and his new weapon to the test.  This was going to be fun...

The wild boar chewed on some grass, like always.  It caught a wif of Ronin's scent as the man approached and lifted its snout away from the ground, sniffing at the air.  Interested, it swished its tail back and forth across its rump and began trotting toward the swordsman curiously.  It sniffed on and continued to approach, though it seemed to be peaceful up to this point.  The weather was rather beautiful this evening and the boar seemed peaceful and relaxed.  It moved closer to Ronin, sniffing still and wondering what this stranger was all about.

Ronin rushed toward the boar, unsheathing his newly crafted sword and gripping the handle tightly as he swung it in a heavy downward strike toward the beast's back.  To his surprise, this seemingly docile beast suddenly darted to the side, dodging his attack.  It then rushed forth and drove its head straight into the swordsman's gut, knocking him back with the powerful headbutt attack.  Ronin toppled onto his ass and grit his teeth.  "Damnit, not again..."

The beast snorted and seemed to smile as it avoided Ronin's first attack.  It headbutted the warrior and drove him onto his butt.  He then trotted around to Ronin's flank, sniffing at the air again as though trying to decide if he could perhaps eat the sword slinger.  The beast's nose sniffed again and again before his lip finally curled.  Perhaps this guy wasn't exactly the most delicious meal to be snacking on after all and seeing as how he had tried to attack him, perhaps he was actually sour.  The boar scuffed its hoof along the ground, preparing to fight back.

Ronin scurried back to his feet as he watched the boar move into position on his flank.  The headbutt had knocked the wind right out of him and he couldn't afford to take another shot like that.  He needed to deliver an attack of his own and fast to turn the tables in this battle.  Getting back to his feet, Ronin gripped his new blade's handle with both hands and prepared to attack.  He grit his teeth and rushed toward the wild boar, swinging his sword hard.  This time, he connected!

The boar took a hard hit from the razor sharp edge of Ronin's new blade and cried out in pain.  It snorted and stamped, spinning in circles and growing angry.  It had been so happy before, just enjoying its food and wandering around on this cool night.  Now, it was mad and it was going to fight back with everything it had.  It lunged forth and tripped over its own leg, face planting into the dirt and snorting in response.  Not only had this stranger landed a hard blow, but the beast had failed miserably to answer back.  This fight was beginning to shift.

Ronin licked his lips as he watched his sword connect.  "Alright!  Now that's more like it!" he cried out, gripping his blade and preparing to attack again.  Seeing the animal face plant in the dirt made him happy, knowing this his attacks were having an effect on the beast and wearing it down.  If only he could land a few more attacks, he would emerge victorious from this little skirmish and be able to continue farming these wild boars to improve his skills.  He was getting used to the weight of this new blade and soon, his skills would improve even more.  "Let's do this!"  Unfortunately, as he swung his sword again, he missed his mark.

The boar stamped again and snorted, blowing two streams of visible breath from its nostrils.  It snarled and snorted and hopped up and down, before charging toward Ronin again.  The swordsman's attack missed and the boar was planning to make him pay.  Unfortunately, the swordsman was too swift and was able to avoid the boar's charge.   He wouldn't be landing another headbutt this time, but he wasn't going to quit trying yet.  The wild boar was growing more determined by the moment as this battle waged on.

The boar rushed in and Ronin was ready this time.  He thrust his blade forth, stabbing it straight into the beast's head.  The creature snarled and shrugged it off, taking only a little damage from the attack and continuing to rush inward.  It grew weary however from the previously blow and missed its chance to attack the swordsman with its tusks.  Unfortunately for the wild boar, Ronin was beginning to get into his groove and was gaining the upper hand.  Soon, this battle would be over!

The wild boar thrashed and cried out in pain, feeling another gash deep into its forehead from Ronin's sword.  This was beginning to get out of hand for the boar and it needed to rethink its strategy fast.  Unfortunately it was only a weak level one foe and so it couldn't fight back that well.  It was going to do what it did best and charge in again with another headbutt attempt to try and skewer Ronin with its tusks.  This was going to be its last chance to deal some damage, as it could feel that its health had been drained and soon it would be defeated.

That's more like it!" cheered Ronin, ripping his sword back through the air and regaining his footing.  He looked at the wild boar, noticing the red slashes that decorated its hide and now its face as well.  One more hit like that would end this creature's attacks and name Ronin victorious.  He couldn't wait to deliver the finishing blow, as he could feel the intensity of the battle growing and knew it was close.  With the boar growing more and more weary with every round, Ronin could tell it wouldn't be long before he defeated it.  "Time to die!"  Ronin slashed, but missed again, cursing and biting his lip. "Mudda fucka!"

This had gone on longer than either of them had imagined.  The wild boar was tired and sluggish, but still in the fight for now.  It snarled and scuffed its hoof across the ground again, preparing to charge if it could again.  It was beyond exhausted, but it was going to try and launch another attack.  It had to bring this stranger down, if it was the last thing it did!  The boar snarled and rushed inward, but once again its legs gave out and it fell to the earth, dragging slightly across the grass.  This was hopeless now, why wouldn't this swordsman just put him out of his misery?

Ronin smirked as he shifted his weight from one foot to the other and drove his blade up and over his head, before bringing its full weight down heavy and true against the beast's head.  The wild boar was instantly slain, bursting into a hundred tiny crystal shards and dissolving in the air right in front of the swordsman's eyes.  He grinned as he stepped back and lowered his heavy weapon.  As the tip touched the ground, he took a long deep breath and closed his eyes.  "Man, that was tougher than I thought..."

The swordsman set his sights on another wild boar across the grassy field and began making his way toward it.   He would use the time walking between his latest battle and the next one to come, to catch his breath.  This world was so full of surprises and new adventures awaiting him and he couldn't wait to explore it all and see everything it had to offer, for now though, he had to keep on grinding and trying to improve himself.  His skills as a swordsman would continue to grow the more he fought, but he wasn't going to quit now.

As Ronin engaged the next wild boar, he launched his attack at the creature, slashing his sword through the air.  Unfortunately, his grip loosened and the sword went flying right out of his grasp, planting end first into the grass below.  His eyes shot open wide as he realized he was swinging empty hands forth.  He cringed and looked up just in time to see the boar driving its head straight into his gut.  "GAAAH!" cried Ronin as he was plowed over hard.

The boar lunged at Ronin, missing with its headbutt and snarling in response.  Ronin was beginning to learn the tactics of these wild boars and he wasn't going to fall for their weak attacks anymore.  As long as he stayed light on his feet and moved swiftly, he would usually be able to avoid their attacks.  He unleashed his blade's edge once again onto the boar's backside, slashing it hard and true and landing a critical strike!  "YEAH!  Take that!"

On this exchange, both Ronin and the wild boar missed with their attacks.  The blade of the swordsman passed through the air, stabbing into the ground and completely missing his target.  The boar meanwhile missed as well, launching itself toward Ronin in hopes of dealing any damage at all to the foe.  As it missed and rolled across the ground, it slowly staggered back to its feet and snorted, feeling fatigued but trying to carry on with another attack.  Its tail swished as it locked its eyes on Ronin and charged in again.

The wild boar stumbled and collapsed, sliding right up to Ronin's feet.  The swordsman lifted his boot slightly and planted it down on the beast's head, looking down at it and shaking his head.  This battle was over.  He slowly lifted his sword and then drove it downward into the boar's hide with little effort.  IT plunged right into the creature's body and the wild boar burst into shards before dissolving and disappearing into thin air.  A congratulatory box popped up in front of Ronin displaying his spoils and he smirked.  "I'm getting the hang of this now..."

Ronin sheathed his weapon and stretched out his arms and neck, feeling stiff.  He had been battling all day and though he knew this world didn't contain the ability to feel sore or aching muscles, his mind still hadn't fully wrapped around the idea.  It all felt so real to him, that he was still trying to get it straight inside his head that pain and discomfort weren't real things to worry about here in this virtual realm.  It was just a matter of time before he truly got the hang of everything here, but for his first day, he decided he wasn't doing too bad.

With his most recent battle won, Ronin decided to head back up the hillside to the small cave and try his hand at a bit of ore mining instead.  He needed another break from battling and he knew that he couldn't afford to press his luck too far, or he might end up being killed.  There was no going back in this world when you were dead, it was permanent.  The swordsman sighed and headed into the cave, picking up the familiar pickaxe and swinging it at the mineral vein from before, knowing it had produced some materials before.  Unfortunately, his first swing was a failure.
