Ronin cracked his neck and lifted himself up and out of his chair.  He yawned and stretched his arms high overhead, his elbows popping audibly in response.  He sighed and shook the cobwebs out, doing his best to get himself moving.  He had fallen asleep in his chair, with his head leaned up against the wall behind him.  He had a crick in his neck and felt pretty shitty, but getting moving and loosening up would help to remedy that.  He wanted to get out of the shop for a while and explore a bit more to see if there was anything else interesting going on on Floor One.

Stepping outside of his little shanty, Ronin yawned again and patted his gloved palm against his lips as he did so.  The result was a little wa wa type sound and he smirked amid his yawning, interrupting his yawn-gasm and thinking of Jambi.  Where was that girl anyway?  He shook his head, knowing she was probably off talking to earth worms under a stone or hugging a tree somewhere in town.  Whatever it was, he knew that she was smiling and having a grand ole' time, just like always.  Lighting up a cigarette, he tried to decide what he would get into now.  That's when a pop up menu decided for him.

"Huh? What's this?" he wondered aloud, puffing at his smoke and scrolling through the details of the pop up menu.  It appeared to be some sort of quest, or rather an introduction to field bosses, as it said.  He pursed his lips around his cigarette in consideration, thinking that the enemies it mentioned didn't appear to be all that tough, well not now, since he had all his new gear and what not.  He nodded his chin slightly, deciding he might as well give it a go.  It would be his first attempt at taking on a field boss and he was rather excited to see how he would match up.

The details of the quest said that a small village somewhere on floor one needed some medicine.  The only place to find the medicine, this <Little Nepent's Ovule> stuff, was in the wooded area on the first floor.  Once inside, you were supposed to look for some sorta' plant like monster thing and defeat it, then it'd drop the medicine and you'd be able to return it to the village and complete the quest.  Ronin pursed his lips, taking another drag at his ciggy and snorting two streams of smoke from his nostrils.  "Alright... let's get this show on the road... now uh.. which way to the wooded area?" he wondered aloud, looking around.

After a good while of searching and trying to figure out how to bring his map up, Ronin was able to find his way to the wooded area, or at least... he thought so.  It looked like it had enough trees to be considered such and so he entered into the forest like zone and kept his eyes peeled for one of these uhh... creatures.  He itched his head as he moved along, huffing at his ciggy all the while and leaving a long trail of smoke everywhere he went.  In the event he needed to turn tail and run, at least he'd have a perfect visible trail to follow right outta' the woods, right?

Suddenly, the swordsman stopped, looking ahead and spotting something... odd.  It must be one of the creatures that the quest had mentioned.  He eyeballed it, looking it over in wonder and trying to decide what exactly it was he was even looking at.  It kinda looked like a giant plant... with a mouth and roots that moved around like legs.  The mouth was opening and closing repeatedly and some strange liquid looked to be drooling out each time it opened.  Ronin pursed his lips and pulled another drag at his smoke.  "Welp, here goes nothin, he decided, charging into battle against two of the plant creatures.

Ronin pulled out his rusty shiv and sliced one of the plant creatures right across its plant belly.  The roots kicked up thrashing at him, but he was able to duck under them and avoid being hit.  He sighed, shaking his head and knowing this was a mistake.  He needed to be taking the hits so that his shield could damage these beasts, not avoiding it like some rookie.  Hadn't he learned anything from his latest mob farming out in the grassy fields with the wild boars?  He drove in again, launching his next attack and vowing to do better this time.

"Yeah, that's more like it!" cheered Ronin under his breath, feeling the monsters land their attacks against his shield.  He was able to defend most of the damage between his armor and shield and the creatures took a big blow due to their attacks.  He smirked and thrust forward again, slashing at the plant like creature in front of him with his rusty shiv.  He wanted to finish these beasts off right here and now and spawn the Nepent Variant that was supposed to appear once these two were defeated.  Ronin couldn't wait to see what would come next!

As Ronin's shield once again worked its magic and the two plant like creatures were slain by their own hands so to speak, the swordsman peeked out and smirked as they exploded into showers of crystals, but yielded no real loot aside from two materials.  He cringed and spat at the ground, knowing that he wasn't having the best luck with getting monster loot drops lately.  He needed to find a way to step his game up with that, but that could wait til later.  For now, the boss was spawning and he looked upon it with great wonder as it took shape before his eyes.  "So... this is a Nepent Variant huh?!"  he said, before charging into battle against it!

On their first exchange, Ronin missed terribly with his shiv, stumbling forward and eating [censored] in the dirt.  However, he was able to roll over and lift his shield just in time as the massive plant creature whipped down at him with its root like legs.  As they smacked against the surface of his shield, the creature writhed out in agony, feeling the damaging thorns that his shield was enhanced with.  Ronin smirked, hearing the cries of the creature and knew it wouldn't take much more to finish it off!  "Haha, you're nothing!"  He cried, pushing himself back to his feet and charging at it again.  "DIE!!!"

"DAmnit!" cried Ronin as he killed the beast, wached it burst into crystal shards and then looked at his loot drop.  "No Nepent's Ovule," he sighed, shaking his head and seeing the two new plant creatures spawn in place the slain boss.  Thsi quest could take a while, if he had to keep going like this, it might take forever!  "How am I supposed to do this?" he wondered, growling and charging into the fray once again.  At this rate, he might very well grow tired before he ever had the successful drop he needed to complete this quest.

This was getting to be a little ridiculous and Ronin was growing tired.  He knew he had to keep going or he would risk losing or failing the quest.  He sighed and shook his head, trying to keep focused and stay in the fight.  His armor and shield had made battling so easy that he hardly had to pay attention anymore, because he knew it was going to protect him, at least against the attacks of these lower level opponents.  Once he started taking on harder quests with bigger bosses, he was going to need much more than this stuff to keep him alive.  "Take this!" he cried, attacking again.

"Aha!  Take that!" he cried from behind the cover of his shield.  His armor and shield were just too good and made his defenses almost impregnable.  He smirked and thrust his shield outward toward the plant like creatures, causing them to flinch and hop backward, their root like legs scurrying all about in a frenzy.  He could tell they were close to being defeated and he looked at their depleted HP bars, licking his lips and practically tasting the victory.  Soon, he would kill them and the boss would spawn again, the he would have his chance to complete this quest again and hopefully leave this wooded area with some good loot under his belt.  "Come on!" he cried attacking again.

"GRRR" growled the swordsman, slashing his shiv across the belly of one of the plant like creatures and then jumping back out of the way of an incoming root slash.  He growled again, knowing he was doing this all wrong and trying to correct himself as he went.  It was instinct to try and avoid attack and he wasn't used to using a shield yet.  He had to be more trusting of his armor and learn to stay behind his shield and allow it to absorb the damage of an incoming attack.  He wasn't used to playing like this, but he was doing his best to learn.  "Come on!  Hit me damnit!  Hit me!!!!"  he cried, launching himself into the fold again.

Once again, Ronin forced himself to stand his ground and once again, the two plant creatures attacked and landed their thrashing against his awaiting shield.  They were instantly killed, bursting into the crystal shards like before and spawning the Nepent Variant boss.  Ronin peeked out from behind his shield and smirked, ready to take on this creature once again and hoping that this time, it would drop the appropriate item he needed to finish this quest.  If not, this was going to take forever to accomplish and he was growing more and more tired by the minute.  "Come on you asshole!  Time to die and drop that loot!" he cried, rushing in to engage.

Ronin ground his teeth together as he charged in again, aiming his shiv to try and slice at the throat region of the plant like pod creature, or at least, the area he suspected might be its throat.  In all honesty, he had no idea what the hell he was even fighting, let alone looking at.  All he knew was that he had to keep it up if he wanted to have any chance of completing this quest successfully and getting the loot drop.  "Gar!" he cried out as he missed.  The creature hit him however, knocking its root against his shield and killing itself so to speak.  "Damn, still not the right loot drop..." Ronin sighed, knowing he would have to continue this dance a little longer.

Ronin sighed, knowing he needed to try and take a quick break to allow some of his HP to regenerate.  He looked toward the trees behind him and quickly raced behind them for cover.  Once he had ducked behind the trees, he planted his back against them and began catching his breath and calming down his mind.  He had been trying so hard to complete this quest and so far, he hadn't been able to get the appropriate loot drop he needed.  The village was depending on this medicine from these plant creatures and Ronin wasn't going to let them down.

Continuing to catch his breath, Ronin wondered if there was a better strategy he could employ to beat these creatures and try to get the loot drop he needed to beat this quest and stop messing around.  This was becoming more than exhausting and he wasn't going to be able to keep up with this much longer.  Even though his health was regenerating back to full, he couldn't help but feel like his mind had grown tired of all this battling.  His shield had plenty of markings on it from all the abuse it had taken, but its durability was still holding strong.   His armor too, wasn't even close to showing signs of letting up and he knew that he'd probably be able to keep this up forever, if he so chose.

Ripping around from out behind the tree, Ronin charged into battle and dove head first into the fray against the two plant like creatures.  As he reached the mob, he tripped and smacked his forehead into the ground, sliding across the dirt and getting a mouthful of bullshit on his tongue.  He coughed and spit, trying to get the soil and foliage out of his mouth and recover some of his lost composure.  Slowly, he pushed himself to his feet, noticing that the creatures had missed as well and deciding it was his best chance to strike again!

The swordsman growled and punched the ground, before driving himself back up to his feet.  He wobbled slightly as he achieved a stand, feeling the fatigue in his body.  He wasn't actually sure if this was true or not, but he felt like he was tired.  IT might not even be possible in this game, just like it wasn't possible for the players to feel any pain, however it still seemed to make sense to his mind at least, that with all this activity, he should be getting tired by now.   Sooner or later he hoped to get control of this and figure it all out.  "RAAAHH" he cried, attacking at the plant creatures again.
