[PP-F1] ...The Friendly Ghost

Recommended Posts

The blacksmith named Ronin prepared himself, equipping his gear and stretching out his limbs while waiting for Caspar to arrive.  He was planning on showing his comrade a couple of things he had learned about this virtual world so far.  He sighed, knowing they still had a long, long way to go before they'd be able to reach the front lines.  For now, the best he could do was try and prepare himself and his comrades for anything they might encounter.  He had to get ready in case they came up against some dangerous enemies out there while questing and adventuring.

After receiving a message from Ronin to come meet up with him, Caspar didn't waste any time in teleporting to him. As soon as he arrived at floor one he started his search for his friend. Walking through the peaceful streets, Caspar passed other players who were making there way to unknown locations. As he got to the main courtyard, he then realized that there were far less players here than usual. Which meant that either some of them died, which was very likely, or some of them have advanced in the game and longer needed floor one anymore...

Sparking up a smoke and kicking back, Ronin continued to wait for Caspar to arrive.  He had pulled his little wooden chair out front of his shop and was currently sitting in it, leaning back against the front wall of his store.  He knew it was risky, seeing as how his whole shop was just a little shanty anyway and might fall over if the wind blew too strong, but he went for it anyway, hoping for the best.  From his seat in his chair, he could see down the street and kept a watchful eye out for his comrade.  "Any minute now..." he breathed, smoking and waiting.

Crossing the street and making his way towards Ronin's shop, Caspar headed down the alley way as he could see his friend sitting from a distance. With his hands still in his pockets, he then released one as he opened up his menu and accessed the message option. As he walked he typed out a message to Ronin that read: "Heads up." and sent it to him with the press of a button. As he continued to walk, he looked to see if his friend would get the message in time before he got to him, if not, who cares. Walking up to his friend, he then stopped a few feet from him. "So, whats up?" He asked.

Ronin had fallen asleep in his little leaning chair while waiting for Caspar to arrive.  He had gotten the message ping, but had just shifted his weight slightly and went back to sleep.  He had found himself to be rather comfortable in his little chair and he enjoyed the chance to take a little snooze and catch some Zs.  Though this was a death game and people were dying every day, Ronin was beginning to realize you couldn't just deny yourself the little luxuries, otherwise you would surely go mad.  He wondered if that was what had happened to Jambi...?  "Huh, what? Oh... sup man..." he said, waking up as he heard Caspar's voice.

"How you doin' today bro?"

Seeing no indication of his friend accessing his message menu to read his newly sent personal message. Caspar continued to walk towards his friend who was... sleeping! Thinking that Ronin was lucky he could sleep and take naps, Caspar didn't bother giving him a rude awakening. Instead he figured his approaching foot steps would do the trick. As he saw his friend perk awake, Caspar then replied to his friend: "Pretty good, got your message, so here I am. What is it you needed to show me?" Caspar asked as he then folded his arms across his chest.

Ronin thought long and hard about it, when Caspar asked him what he had wanted to show him.  The swordsman couldn't fuckin' remember for the life of him.  He sighed and looked down at his right hand, seeing the half smoked cigarette that was still wedged between his fingers.  He shrugged and sparked it back up, taking a long and soothing drag and holding it in his lungs for a long moment.  "Ermm... well... uhhh..." he began, still trying to remember.  "Oh right!  I remember... so there's this little cemetery outside of town right, and there's this creepy fuckin' tombstone there right?  And anyway... I heard from an NPC that if you go and look at it, you'll see your own name appear on the tombstone and then your ghost will emerge and attack you, trying to drag you down into your own [censored] grave!!!!"  Ronin was clearly excited and blown away by the idea of this wild encounter with the super natural and it seemed he was eager to go and investigate whether or not it was true.

After hearing his friend speak of a supernatural NPC, Caspar at first thought he was making it up. But then he got to wondering, if this game is as big as they say it is, then there should be no reason for it NOT to be true. Besides, the players needed to have some sort of fun besides fighting the whole time. "If you are serious about this, then lets definitely go check it out!" Caspar said as he was now excited about it as well. Offering his hand outwards to pull his friend out of his chair, Caspar then had to ask. "Which way do we go?"

Ronin shrugged, having no real idea of which way the cemetery might be.  "Guess we'll hafta go ask around... all I know is where to go once we get there, but not actually how to get there in the first place."  Ronin clearly wasn't entirely prepared for this little adventure, but he was excited enough.  He quickly rose up from his chair, gathering together whatever the hell he needed and straightening himself out.  "Right then... let's look for an NPC or another player and see if they know how to get to the cemetery.  Then we'll go see if this [censored] about the ghost is true!"

Agreeing with his friend with a nod, Caspar was so [censored] excited he began to hop up and down while shaking his head a bit before turning around a punching a wall behind  him super hard, causing it to form a red fist in the wall as crystallized shards fell to the ground. "Damn, I can't wait! I hope its true" He said as he gained his composure. As the two walked from Ronin's shop and onto the main road, Caspar then walked up to the first player he saw. "Excuse me, by any chance do you know anything about a cemetery around here?" He asked. "...Hmm, I THINK there is one to the North of the giant lake... But I can't be certain, don't take my word for it though." He said as he then waved good bye and walked away from him. "Alright, thanks." Caspar said as he then waited to see what Ronin found out.

Ronin didn't find out [censored], having simply followed Caspar and not done any asking of his own.  He was standing right behind his comrade when the man turned around to see what he had discovered.  "Hm?  Oh... so what did he say... the giant lake?" asked Ronin, itching his ass and taking a drag at his cigarette.  He wondered which way the giant lake was and if Caspar had any idea?  He hadn't really figured out how to pull up his world map yet, but he thought he remembered seeing Caspar do it before.  "Hey, how do you work that map [censored] anyway?"

"Yeah, we can try looking there first, if we don't find anything then we can just ask people around there." Caspar said. Caspar then opened up his main menu as he swiped his finger downward in front of him. "Alright, so here is how you access your map from the main menu..." Caspar started as he tried to teach it to Ronin. "So from here, you scroll down until you get to this tab here. After selecting that, your world map should appear at the bottom of the list since its in alphabetical order. Then you just select it like so annnnd.... wa-la!" As soon as Caspar got done explaining it to him, the world map popped up on a window in front of them. Using his index finger, Caspar then pointed to where they were currently located, which was a small dot on the screen. He then showed Ronin where the large lake was and where the cemetery COULD be.

After closing the menu, Caspar then lead the way out of the town and headed towards the large lake...

Ronin did his best to pay attention while Caspar was explaining how to get his map up.  He wasn't all that familiar with these giant MMO games, but he did have a little experience.  Usually though, there was some sorta hot key or  a little icon he could just click on or point at and his map would pop right up.  All this accessing of menus and swiping of his hands, well... it was still a little new and alien to the swordsman.  As he followed along, he saw that Caspar's map finally popped up and his eyes grew wide as he studied it.  This world was too [censored] massive and he felt overwhelmed instantly.  "So... that's where the cemetery might be huh?" he breathed, feeling excited again.

As Caspar resumed his forward march, Ronin nipped at his heels, knowing the sooner they reached the lake, the sooner they could find this damn cemetery.  "Race you there!" he cried out, before speeding off down the path toward the lake.

Watching his friend speed off in front of him towards the lake, Caspar was quick to pick up his speed as well. If it was a race he wanted... well, it was a race he was gonna get! Kicking off the ground with blinding speed, Caspar struck the ground with his black boots quickly as he raced off with his friend towards the large lake area. Sprinting in unison, the two had finally made it to the large lake. The lake really was HUGE and had a waterfall that crashed down into it. Looking around, Caspar saw some people who could point them in the right direction, just in case they came up unlucky in their search for the cemetery. "Alright, looks like this is the place... Now we just head north of here where that dark wooded area is at and see what happens." Caspar said. As he then looked up into the sky, he noticed it was almost dusk and that the sun was about to set.

"Nice... that will set the mood perfectly." He said aloud.

Ronin, with his smoker lungs, had unfortunately lost the race to the lake.  He sighed and huffed as he finally caught up with Caspar and looked toward the forest on the north side of the lake.  He admired the waterfall for a brief moment, before suddenly realizing he had to uhh...  "Ayo Casp'  I'll be right back man... gotta' handle somethin..." he said, before quickly darting off into some bushes and beginning to relieve himself.  It had been too long since his last bodily function and he knew that was something rather uncommon in video games.   Often times, you'd see the heroes going through their quest for days and days on end, while never once stopping to use the bathroom.

Coming back from the bushes, he breathed a healthy sigh of relief.  "Oh [censored] man, I feel waaaayyy better now...  So, shall we?"  he offered, resuming his march toward the wooded area.

Not minding his friend having to go relieve himself, Caspar used this time to admire the scenery and soak it all in. The waterfall was giant and he could clearly hear its booming water fall from here. The sparkles and mist that shot upwards into the sky after connecting to the water below was almost memorizing. After hearing Ronin approach him from going to the bathroom, Caspar snapped back to reality. "Alright, lets go." Caspar said as he walked with his friend to the northern part of the lake. The dark wooden area seemed to get darker and darker as the sun went down. "Looks like we're here." Caspar said as they came up to the wooded area. "I'd imagine the cemetery isn't too deep inside... then again... maybe it is..." Caspar whispered to his friend, as he then heard the howling of a wolf in the distance as the sun finally set...

Ronin itched his ass as they entered into the wooded area and noticed the lighting was diminishing rather quickly.  "[censored] no joke... it's gunna' be dark as [censored] out here in no time..."  The swordsman kept his eyes peeled as they traveled through the woods, moving between the trees and trying not to get eaten by any wolves or other wild beasts roaming around through this area.  "Keep yer eyes open for any fuckin' wolves," whispered Ronin, hearing the howl and feeling his skin crawl.  As he continued walking, he finally spotted something off to the left and went to investigate it.  "Yo... pssst... Caspar, I think I found it... over here."  Ronin had spotted something that resembled a tombstone and hoped they had finally found the cemetery.

"Oh my God you're right!" Caspar said as he carefully walked up to the object. Sitting in the ground in front of him was what looked to be an unmarked tombstone. It came up to Caspar's waist and seemed to be the only one around as far as he could tell. Crouching down to get a better look of it, he then investigated it more. As soon as he did, a bolt of lightning crashed down behind him as it then started to sprinkle and then wind kicked up. "...Is this supposed to happen?" Caspar said as he kept his eyes glued on the tombstone as it started to glow...

"Holy [censored]!  I think this might be some kinda' event!?" cried out Ronin, his eyes wide in excitement and wonder.  He spun circles, looking from the tombstone to the spot where the lightning had struck the ground.  "Ahhhhh" he cried as he suddenly spotted something rising up from the smokey spot where the lightning had hit the forest floor.  The smoke began to swirl and change and grow thicker and soon he saw that it was no longer smoke at all, but some kind of ghost.  "Oh [censored]!  A fuckin' ghost man, they were right!" he blurted, feeling like he was going to piss himself.  Ronin quickly scurried back behind the tombstone to take cover, just in case this was some kind of LVL100 boss that was going to one-shot Caspar, he wanted to make sure he wouldn't be killed as well.  "Look out!"

Watching the smoke vanish from sight, Caspar stood in place shocked at what he was seeing. As his eyes remained wide, he witnessed a ghost forming in front of him. The ghost then gave out a eerie long howl as it waved its arms back and forth. Taking a few steps back, Caspar looked for a health bar above the ghost but did not see one yet. Not taking any chances, he then equipped his gunblade as he held it in front of him in case the ghost should choose to attack. "WHOOOOO DAAAAREEESSS DISTURB MYYY GRAAAAAVE!?" The ghost wailed as its black mouth elongated...
