[PP-F9] An Outing of a Hunter and a Dragoon <Iron Guardian> (Hirru)

Recommended Posts

Looking around the town of Vulcan, the Scarlet Dragoon shrugged his shoulders. He had just picked up a quest from one of the info brokers. The man wanted a certain item returned to him and was asking for Lawfer to retrieve it. Originally, the azure eyed man had planned on soloing the quest, but after reviewing all of the information he realized it may prove more difficult than it originally seemed. Raising his right hand, he entered his interface. Selecting one of his guildmates, Hirru, he sent a private message asking for his help. Shaking his head, Lawfer walked to the town center. He made that the rendevous point for Hirru. "Now we wait..."

The hunter got the message as he was returning from a quest on the same floor.  A group of bandits were raiding the area, and a warrior needed his help.  Unfortunately, the events of that hunt would come to haunt the man as his wagon came to the main town of the ninth floor, Vulcan.  Coming to a halt, the hunter figured that this was his stop, and jumped off.  He didn't really read the message as he had other things on his mind, but when he saw the golden haired man at the crossroads, the hunter had to look over it.  Coming over to the Scarlet Dragoon, the Jade Hunter flashed a two finger salute: his way of saying hello to make things quick.

"Let's make this quick.  I've got some business to attend to after this."

As the grimly lit caravan approached, the blond haired dragoon smiled. "Sounds good to me Hirru." He said as he motioned for the man to follow. "The breakdown of the quest is to go kill a field boss, then return the item it drops. Sounds almost too easy, should have you back on your way in no time." Lawfer explained as the two broke through the safe zone gates and out into the volcanic fields that comprised the 9th floor. Both Lawfer, and Hirru were accustomed to the vast maps of the lower floors which made finding the field bosses quite easy.

"I've heard of this quest somewhat.  Mack keeps going on about it, for some reason.  It should be interesting, but.."

The hunter looked towards the wagon that was drawing away from them, as they spoke.  He opened his menu to produce a long staff that carried a green fire.  The Emerald Flame was slammed down on the ground, which made sparks fly in a splash of jade.  Soon after, the wagon pulled around and had rejoined them in the volcanic fields.

"We're going to need a form of transportation.  Everyone says that it is a two day trip."

Getting on the back of the wagon, the hunter held out his hand to help the dragoon onto the wagon.  With a stern look of urgency, he would help his comrade, but his mind was elsewhere.

"I don't have that kind of time."

[Throw down the Knights, and we'll do a three turn count.  Then the Guardian, three turns, and finally the broker.  If we have a good roll for a sub-dungeon, we'll call in Opal or Lowe.]

As Lawfer grabbed the hunters hand and climbed aboard his wagon, he couldn't help but chuckle. "I dont have the time either." He joked as he kicked both of his feet atop a rail and leaned back. "This is going to work out better than I thought." He said as he closed his eyes. A few hours passed, and Lawfer awoke to the wagon stopping at the determined destination. "Looks like this is our Que." He stated as he jumped off the wagon.

As he did, two Iron knights lumbered over, dashing into them, Lawfer swung his Highwind. As it ricocheted off one of the knights shield, Lawfer braced for the counter attack. The DMG was minimul... but he was still infuriated that he missed. "Hirru your up!"

When the wagon stopped abruptly, the hunter figured that the Merchant had been found out by some mobs that could be easily dealt with.  Jumping off the wagon, the hunter unsheathed his sword, Solace, from its sheath.  What would be the enemy was two humanoid enemies with heavy armor covering them.  That would not save them from his wrath, as his impatience was starting to get the better of him.  Solace began to glow a bright violet as the hunter jumped into the air, performing a backflip in the process.  When he landed, he was positioned behind the two knights, which was where he planted his blade.  Lightning shot out in all directions hitting the knights for maximum damage, but the resultant art also bounced off of the knights to harm him as well.

"Thorns, huh.  Lawfer, finish it!"

"Got it! Lawfer stated as he pulled back his Highwind. The spear began to glow a bright shade of yellow. Lunging forward, a massive blast exploded at the spear head. The knights were hit by the shockwave, and exploded into purple digital dust. "Good work out there Hirru." The spearman stated as he patted the hunter on the back. "You need a potion to shake off that damage?" He asked as he looked around the volcanic terrain. He had a few potions saved up for such an occasion.

The hunter was glad that the dragoon could follow up on his attack, though he didn't doubt it.  They've been dungeon diving a few times with the Vice Commander, and he could carry himself fairly well.  With the destruction of the knights came a quick rush to the wagon to see if anything was damaged.  The merchant would laugh before telling him that there was nothing broken in the scuffle.  With a sigh, the hunter would turn to address Lawfer, whom asked if he needed anything for the damage taken.  He shook his head as his health bare naturally regenerated.

"I'll be fine.  That damage came from the Thorns ability, so we should be careful as that damage isn't mitigated."

"Ok thats good to hear. Last thing we need is for one of us to take too much damage." Lawfer looked back to the volcanic field. Pulling off his new helmet, he allowed his body to breath a bit more than wearing full armor would allow. "The one thing I hate about heavy armor is that it doesn't breath that well." the man jested as he opened his inventory and withdrew a flask of alcohol. "This may not give any kind of buffs, but it sure tastes good." The blue eyed spearman said as he popped the lid off and took a swig. Holding out the flask to Hirru, "Here, have some. It tastes better when its hot outside."

The hunter had to give a slight chuckle to the heavy armor that Lawfer used on a daily basis.  Compared to his own half plate, the full plate armor seemed to be quite awkward for most, but the dragoon seemed to pull it off with ease.  He saw first hand that the armor could easily stop an attack or two, so the armor was doing its job to protect him.  They would probably also be tier two, so they were much more powerful than his equipment.  Rolling his exposed right arm to remove the strain that the previous sword art gave, before accepting the drink.

"It's been a while since I had a good drink."

Taking a swig of the alcohol, the hunter nodded towards the taste.  It had a certain twang to it, but he couldn't put his mind to it at the moment.  He instead gave it back to Lawfer before jumping back onto the wagon.

"Told you it was good." The spearman said with a slight chuckle as he retrieved the flask and took another sip. As the elixer hit his stomach, he could feel the warmth almost in his very soul. Leaping off his front foot, Lawfer landed in the passenger seat of the wagon. "Well we still got some travel time, so might as well get going now." he stated as he took another sip from his flask. "Got this stuff from a tavern on the seventh floor. Its probably the best place to get booze on the lower level." he stated, as a slight yawn escaped from his lips. "So Hirru, why did you end up joining the Blades? I think this is the first time it was you and me on the open road, so it would be nice to actually get a chance to chat for once."

Taking note from where the dragoon got his liquor, the hunter knocked on the wood of the wagon to signal the merchant to start heading out.  The area would be quite bumpy, but nothing that he had not felt before.  The trouble would come if there were any lava rivers that bypassed their trail.  With the wagon moving along as planned, Lawfer seemed to wonder something about the hunter.  Why did he join the Blade?  The hunter was in the back of the wagon, looking over his wares when the question was asked.  He looked to Lawfer and said,

"I was there when Mack created the Crimson Blades with the first six members.  I was to be the seventh, but.."

Looking back on that day, there were things that he still had to do.

"I needed to figure some things out first."

Lawfer thought back to his time in the blades, so much had transpired since that time. Raising his right hand, he proceeded to scratch the back of his head, then fixed the strands of hair that fell forward into his face. "I had almost forgetten about being apart of the blades. I've spent so much time out there in the wilderness that most of that time seems like a distant memory. But now that I'm with the Knights... Things have gotten so much easier." He commented as he took another swig of his flask. "Now its time for all of us to make it to the frontline as fast as we can. No more waiting around, for everyone to save us from our problems." Lawfer commented as he looked over at the Jade hunter. "Well enough of me spilling my guts. I think we are getting pretty close to the Iron Guardian. How is your energy?"

Looking up to his own health and energy, it seemed that it was filled not too long ago.  It was good to see that as the wagon came to a slow halt.  Taking a moment to look outside before he jumped out, there seemed to be a small ruined castle in front of them.  The land around it was scorched and melted from the lava that constantly flowed from several cracks in the floors surface.  It was dangerous to stay here any longer than they were.  Jumping out, the hunter could see something near the entrance to the ruined castle.  A large monolith of a man, with a shield just as large.  This was the Iron Guardian, that they were told of.

"Lawfer, throw down the first hit.  I don't think my armor can handle boss damage."

The hunter didn't want to take any chances with how little mitigation he had.  With that in mind, he chugged the last of his +18 MIT potions.

Hoping out of the wagon, the dragoon sprinted towards the towering guardian. "Take this!" the blonde yelled as he ripped his Highwind from its shoulder sling and stepped in heavy on the lead foot. Putting his whole body into the swing, all that could be heard was the clang of metal on metal. Lawfer's hands shook, he only managed to hit the massive iron arms, and the attack was nullified. Leaping backwards as the guardian, swung the arm it used to depend itself, the spearman aptly dodged. "Hirru, Flank it. Make sure you don't connect with the arms... they dont take any damage."

Taking the warning to heart, the hunter flashed past the dragoon with his blade erupting in an azure glow.  The Iron Guardian tried to follow his movements with the defense of his limbs, but that was the hunter's target.  A quick slash diagonally upwards would disable the first leg, while the second diagonal slash downwards would take out the other.  A spin later, and the blade cut horizontally across an arm that tried to get in the way.  The resultant effect would cripple the Iron Guardian where it stood, but the armor was also covered in thorns.  The attack would backlash at the hunter without pause.

Stepping in right after the hunter had delivered a very crucial blow to the guardian, Lawfer, began charging his Spear art. Releasing <Vent Forth> the Highwind danced across the stunned iron guardian. After three spinning splashes, a devastating lunge hit the stunned guardians core. Launghing it back a few feet. As it skid to a stop, Lawfer looked at Hirru and nodded. "Your turn buddy!"

Continuing the assault on the Iron Guardian, the dragoon performed one of his strongest moves to remove a large portion of the bosses health.  As it dipped into the yellow, the hunter would run in to apply his portion of damage to the assault.  Unfortunately, the stunning effect had passed and the Iron Guardian swept him aside with its mighty shield.  The momentum of his attack would send him into some broken portions of the ruins, which seemed to be crumbling into the lava below.  Forcing his sword into the ground, he was able to brake enough to avoid falling in.

"Hirru!!!!" The scarlet dragoon screamed as he watched his comrade fly several meters away. Pressing forward once more, he walked down the guardian. "Give it your best shot!" He exclaimed as he watched the guardian pull back its masive arm, and swung it at the spearman. Leaning forward, Lawfer braced for the attack by digging his feet into the ground. Skidding back slightly, Lawfer shrugged of the damage. While pulling his own weapon back, as it charged with a bright yellow aura, Lawfer released <Vent Forth> once more. With three spinning slashes, it knocked the guard up of the Guardian, and the final lunge pierced the colossuss face. As the boss' health dipped down once more, the dragoon looked over to the recovering hunter. "Finish this...."

Without a second thought, the hunter began closing the distance between them as he watched the dragoon ripe into the enemy with consecutive attacks that would destroy most enemies that he had faced before.  The Iron Guardian's health was only a blip remaining, and that meant only one thing.  One slash was all that he needed to end it.  Springing around the boss while it was preoccupied with Lawfer, the hunter used a few ruins that came down to form an impromptu stepping platforms.  Using them, he gained some height to be level with the boss before jumping with an azure glowing blade.  The art flashed out with a single horizontal attack.  The first level OHSS attack, <<Horizontal>>

The Iron Guardian fell to its knees before shattering into many brilliant light pieces.  In its place, there stood a weird flag, or banner of sorts.

"This must be what we were looking for?"
