[SP - F16] Scouting the Sixteenth Floor

Their harrowing assailant had been slain, and the last of its hatchlings had fallen along with it. Takao swung his blade up onto his shoulder and shivered at the sight before him. He hadn't noticed it in earnest, but the humanoid figures trapped within the webbing put a terrible feeling of terror in his bones. He didn't want to stick around for whatever conversations might occur following the raid, nor did he want to continue staring at the webbing. With no desire to linger on the fifteenth floor any longer, Takao started off for the staircase. The soles of his leather boots thudded softly on the stone stairs as he wordlessly ascended them, dulled jade eyes set forward. "Fifteen down," He thought to himself, each step forward carrying him closer to the inactive warp gate and unknown sixteenth floor. "Seventy five to go."

Takao's eyes had long since adjusted to the darkness of Limbo's lair, and were blinded by the light of the warp gate as it was activated. He grunted and shielded his emerald orbs with both lids and hand, though it did little to ease to discomfort. Gingerly reopening them, he was greeted with an indescribable sight. It was odd. Out of place, unexpected... or perhaps it was rather describable after all. He shook his head and gave his surroundings a brief glance before shrugging it off. Sight seeing could wait, he had to prioritize. Finding the next labyrinth and mapping it out was his priority.

A bit of navigation had been required to locate the exit of the settlement, but Takao found it as swiftly as he imagined was possible. He made sure to equip himself with the adequate hunting equipment but opted to go without many buffs, at least for now. His armour would be more than capable of keeping him from immediate death, given the typical requirement of hacking through a field of monsters that had gone untouched for quite some time. "Christ," Takao grumbled to himself as the thought crossed his mind. "If these things keep populating even while we're not on the floors, I can only imagine what the highest will end up looking like."

"Figured I'd be running into something after a while," Takao said, jade eyes setting upon the four monsters that impeded his path. He hadn't made it far from the first settlement, yet they already blocked his advance. A low grunt escaped from his throat in amusement; they had slain the boss without the aid of two supposed true front liners, so the small critters that stood before him now were of little issue. He charged his weapon with a familiar sword art and allowed a wave of electricity to clear his path.

Takao was without words to speak as another small hoard of four monsters appeared before him. He did to them as he had done to the four before them, and annihilated their ranks with a jump, flip, and subsequent wave of electricity to wash over their figures. The damage drained their health gauges in an instant, leaving nothing but bursts of colourful pixelated polygons to flutter away. He was on his way the second he regained control of his avatar from the system, jade eyes already seeking out the next group.

So much time was wasted with hacking through the ocean of monsters laid out before him, yet he knew it was a necessary evil. Despite their negligible damage in comparison to his mediocre capabilities with soaking up damage, he still had no desire to find out what a larger hoard of them could do to his health stores. So, instead, he took them on as they came, and diminished them in groups of four. Another gathering appeared before him, and the gathering was quickly disposed of in the same manner as those before it.

"There really is no end to you lot, is there?" Takao asked the monsters in monotone. He couldn't necessarily say he was expecting a response, and wasn't exactly disappointed when they replied with silence. He shrugged it off and rolled his shoulder, his main hand swinging his sword into position. The steel shone a brilliant mixture of blue and purple before he launched forward, utilizing the charge skill to augment his damage. In the wake of electricity, he left four sources of pixelated polygons.

A slight and undoubtedly uncharacteristic scowl set in on Takao's face as he eyed the most recent group of four monsters to approach him. Truly there was no end to them. He was prepared to take them all out in one fell swoop, as he had done to the fifteen odd monsters he'd done the same to before, but found himself tripping over his feet. He fell flat on his chest, grumbling into the dirt as the monsters around him did the same. "Ah, great. Now they're all mockin' me."

Takao picked himself out of the dirt and shook the dust particles from his clothing. The monsters around him did the same, practically mirroring his actions in their own way. He grumbled and swung his sword into position, repeating his previous successes as he launched into a jump and spun, slamming his sword into the ground as he landed. A wave of electricity washed over the monsters and obliterated them in a matter of seconds, leaving only polygons in their place. After the system relinquished control back unto him, Takao scoffed out an exhale and turned, continuing on his way.

Takao exhaled a slow breath as his gaze wandered across the jungle-like atmosphere around him. Despite ambient noises of monsters in the background, they didn't sound close enough to be an immediate threat. He was afforded a few brief moments of respite, which he intended to use well. After delving into his inventory and procuring a haunch of lamb from within its confines, Takao set about wandering the cleared portion of the sixteenth floor of Aincrad.

"Huh," Takao mumbled to himself as he chowed down on the haunch of lamb. "Dis plaish ishn't sho bad." He said, swallowing moments after. It didn't take him long to finish the meal, and he discarded the bone by throwing it behind him, which promptly disappeared the second it touched the ground. "I was wonderin' if there would ever be an islandy type floor. Could be a good place to relax sometime." As the words left his mouth, he found himself growing silent. Relaxing wasn't something they could afford to. Not before, and certainly not now. They needed to make progress, lest they fall into inactivity once again.

Takao had reached the edge of a cliff, whose sheer face dropped directly into violent looking waters below. Glancing over the grassy fringe, Takao grimaced. It was certainly not his preferred way to go, but he couldn't argue that it wouldn't make for a rather peaceful death in comparison to being torn apart by monsters, or stabbed in the back by somebody he thought he could trust. Takao's attention was garnered by some noise being made behind him, which sounded suspiciously monster-like and uncomfortably close. Reaching over his shoulder, he grasped the handle of his sword and pulled it from the scabbard, readying himself for battle.

Takao narrowed his eyes as the sounds of monsters grew closer and closer with each passing second. As he'd been expecting, four beasts merged from the underbrush of the jungle behind him, snarling and growling as their red eyes shone brightly and glared daggers in his direction. Unwavering and unintimidated, Takao immediately launched into his next attack. He leapt into the air and swung his legs over his head, then used the momentum to snap his upper body back around like a whip. The tip of his sword slammed into the ground as he returned to the soil, and waves of electricity rippled from the steel. The four monsters were destroyed before they could come anywhere near him, and shattered into fragments.

Takao started walking back into the jungle shortly after defeating the four monsters who had attempted to ambush him on the cliff. Jade eyes, the same colour as the forest around him, stared ahead vigilantly. Each small movement was watched closely, just waiting for the next group of monsters to leap from their hiding spot and attack. He didn't get far before his expectations rang true and four monsters leapt from the canopy. He reacted faster than they could strike, and obliterated their health gauges with a single sword art. In the moments that followed, Takao was already well on his way.

The path back to whatever settlement he had originally passed through upon opening the warp gate was long gone. His map provided enough data to navigate his way back when the time came, but for now, he was lost and alone in the jungle. To say that he minded his current state would be a blatant lie. He operated best on his own, without the hindrance of another player to worry about or get in his way. Harsh as it might sound, but he was beginning to only trust himself. Four more monsters descended from the canopy, and four more monsters met a swift, electrifying death.

Takao gave pause to his search for the labyrinth in favour of admiring an odd looking plant. The flower was colourful, bright blue mixed with gold and orange. It contrasted against the general green monotone of the forest enough for him to spot it from a good fifty meters away despite the thick foliage. With an easy swipe of his sword, Takao severed the flower from the stalk and collected it before it fell to the ground. He admired the flower for a moment longer before stowing it away in his inventory and continuing onward.

"Man... There really is no end to you bastards, is there?" Takao grunted, the fatigue of his accomplishments thus far having finally begun to take their toll. Having just participated in the boss fight was tiring enough, but now he was trudging through a jungle-like forest and combating every monster that came into view. If he did manage to get any sleep tonight, it would surely be well deserved. His jade eyes set themselves upon the silhouettes of four more approaching monsters, their powerful legs thunderously padding against the soft soil as they closed the distance. Takao tensed his right leg and poised his blade, allowing the system to momentarily overtake control. Under the guidance of Cardinal, Takao performed a single flip and slammed the tip of his sword into the ground, causing a ripple of electricity to destroy the four incoming monsters in a magnificent display of colour.

A low, rumbling groan resonated in Takao's chest as he caught sight of four more monsters in their rapid approach. He was beginning to think it might have been something of a bad idea, immediately venturing into uncharted territory if only to keep up a routine. But he was here, and it was more of a waste to leave now. He mustered up the last of his energy and hoisted his sword up one last time, preparing the same sword art that had culled the forty odd monsters thus far. He leapt, spun, and slammed his sword into the ground. Electricity rippled across the grass, cutting and frying the individual blades as they arced closer. The bolts caught the monsters as they trudged across the soft soil and halted their advance, dropping their health bars down to zero in a split second and resulting their shattering into polygons.

Takao's head tilted as he stumbled upon another flower, similar in appearance to the one he had found earlier. Much like the first of its kind, it stuck out against the primarily green and brown jungle with its bold blue and gold colours, and his earlier collection of the first also implied it had some sort of use; he imagined it to be medicinal. He hadn't the mind nor the interest to check the description in his inventory, so he simply went about collecting the second of its kind and stowing it away for later usage.

Boss Room located.

"Well," Takao muttered to himself, jade eyes setting upon the entrance to the labyrinth that he had nearly overlooked. "...That's definitely it. Doesn't look like anybody else's been here yet either." He commented, his drifting gaze noting the few scattered monsters that were close enough to the entrance to make him believe he was the first to locate it, yet far enough to not be an issue to him personally. "Whatever it is, it literally cannot be worse than Limbo... so let's have a look'see." Takao passed through the doors of the labyrinth and delved into the darkness beyond. Leather shoes padded softly against the floor, muffling his advance as he crept through various hallways.

"Dude sure does love his spooky halls..." Takao grumbled, eyes darting with each small sound and semblance of movement. After a few short minutes of searching, he stumbled upon the room before the boss room itself. His eyes set on the large doors and he exhaled, taking a few confident steps forward. Using his parameter augmented strength, Takao hefted the door open with ease and peaked inside. He spent a few moments gathering information before pulling the door closed again and heading for the exit.

"...Well. At least it's not another spider."
