[F5-SP] Deserted [Completed] <<The Traveler>>

Recommended Posts

Wandering the fourth floor a couple days ago was a bad idea, while out hunting a blizzard wreaked havoc in his health bar, and almost killed him. "A couple more minutes of that, and I would be dead. And I didn't even have the survival skill, so now I'm going to get it!" He was on the fifth floor, in search of the quest giver, an injured old lady. His eyes kept searching the horizon up and down, but to no avail. "Never knew old people were really elusive... Guess I need to search a bit harder." Then he tried to do something absolutely idiotic, he put his two fingers on his forehead and started shouting, "TELEPATHYY!"

"Hey, have you seen an old lady around here?" Right when he said that, he felt a cane hit his back, "I'm not old you lil' whippersnapper!" Ventus turned around and screamed, "Aaahahhh!!" The sudden attack made him fall to the ground comedically, while he was trying to get back up, the old lady was laughing at him. "Whadd'ya want young'un?" Sand traveled through his entire outfit and made him feel itchy. "U-Umm... I was looking for a sick old lady to help her find some cargo. I heard that she lived around here, s-so ermm... Are you her?"

The old lady hit him with the cane again, "Yes I'm her, idiot blondie. You said you wanted to get my cargo right? Well good luck! That stuff is lost in the sand, and the winds blow with great fury. There's a good chance that you'll die on the journey, but if you happen to make it back alive... I'll give you something nice." Ventus sighed, "Okay then... I'll see you in two days then!" He ran to the entrance of the town and stopped at the gate. "Well, no regrets after I step out of the safezone." The blonde made sure he was stocked up on potions before he went out.

"Okay! I'm going out now, no regrets!" Ventus took a step out of the safezone and smiled, "Whoo, that wasn't so hard. Now time to search for the cargo." The old lady was right, the sand did blow monstrously. Some of it got into his eyes, and that resulted in a lot of wiping. "Oww!! Ow! OOOOWW!!!!" Gusts assaulted him relentlessly, almost as if they had a death wish for him. "Stupid sand! OWW!" There was only one option available, try to look for the cargo with his eyes closed. "Damn it!"

The winds began to die down slowly, and he could open his eyes again. But soon after he opened them, a strong gust blew again. "Holy [censored]!" Ventus just cursed, a tell tale sign that he was becoming more like Ratatosk. Countless sand dunes disappeared into the air, and he even saw a little sand tornado in the distance. "That's not good!" He ran as far as his legs could carry him, which is not that far since he couldn't see where he was going, "Agghh! What did I just bump into?"

Ventus opened his eyes and saw a pillar, how the heck did these even get in the desert? "Maybe I can find a dungeon or two if I keep looking. No... I'm not strong enough to beat one of those bosses yet. I'd die pretty quickly before I even know what hit me." Cautiousness was a new trait that arose in him, normally Ratatosk would do something like run into a China shop and break everything, or jump head first into danger. "That's just stupid, if I know I'm going to probably die then why would I even do it?"

A pair of binoculars would really come in handy at this time, but someone just didn't want to bring them (Ventus). "Ah [censored]." He cursed again. "I really wish I brought something like that. Could've even brought some goggles with me, damn it! I'm such an idiot..." Now was not the time to be sulking in the sand dunes, the wind blew so hard that the mound he was on literally vanished into the air, "W-Woahh!" His face met with the sand filled ground, and he had to spit a lot of it out before regaining his standing position.

"Ah crap, it's almost night." The sun wasn't quite setting yet, but the position of it was changing quickly. He heard that deserts were supposed to have long days somewhere, probably from his geography book. "That reminds me of school... I'm going to miss a lot of it, but I don't really need that. Never really paid attention to that boring [censored] anyways." His eyes widened, he cursed once more. "Ratatosk really left an imprint on me... Him and his gigantic sailor mouth.... I wonder what'll happen if I say it at a daycare center."

Just the thought of cursing loudly at a daycare center made him snicker, "It would be funny... Having all the kids say that, but that's not like me at all! Well, it's not like me... But it's a lot like Ratatosk." Ventus felt that feeling again, was it really that normal to miss your alternate personalities that much? An idea appeared out of his mind, "What if I develop another personality? I'm not even sure who's the real one again... Me, or Ratatosk... Or even both!" He was so lost in thought that he forgot about the strong winds blowing against his back.

The sun went down quickly, and that meant Ventus needed to find some shelter. "Holy crap! Need to find a cave fast!" His sprint wasn't that fast, but fast enough to get him to a safe place for the night. "What the?" He found a smell tent, it was in such poor condition that the elements could still hurt you even if you were inside of it. "Beggars can't be choosers." The blonde walked in and lit up a fire with a spare flint lying around. "I wonder how badly the sand hurts inside here... Shouldn't be too much."

An entire night passed by without anything disturbing his sleep, he woke up in the morning with a fifteen second yawn. That yawn broke his last record, which was ten seconds. "Up and at 'em, I need to find that cargo!" The first thing he did besides yawning was get out of the tent, since nobody would be needing it anymore, he turned it into an eye guard so that he could traverse the sandy deserts without having to cover his looking holes. "What's this 'something nice' that old lady was talking about back there?"

His foot touched something odd, "Huh? What's this?" A smile of pure excitement was glued to his face, "Yes! The cargo! Now I can get back to town and deliver it to that old lady." He imagined a cane hitting his back, and winced at the thought of it. "Okay... I think I'll wait a bit." Ventus waited for four minutes, then started walking back to the town, "I wonder how far I traveled. Probably a mile... Or several... But that's fine, I can walk it in an hour tops. But if I really wanted to, I can run it! That seems like something Ratatosk would do though."

"Alright, time to start running." Ventus bursted into a short sprint to build up the adrenaline in his veins, and from there he started to jog. He left clouds of sand behind him as his feet hit the ground, each step while jogging was about two times faster than regular walking. "And Ratatosk was pretty strong in the real world. Well, I am, wait, no he is. Wait... No..." An internal conflict was inside his mind again, this happened pretty often and was a little sign about the future.

It sucked that there were no roads on this floor, and fighting on it was pretty dangerous unless you had the survival skill. But pretty soon, after he gets the survival skill, he could do a whole range of quests without being hurt by the environment. "And my natural health regeneration will go up two fold." He thought about katanas for a second, at the start of the game he wanted to choose one of the three weapons, one handed straight swords, daggers, or katanas. He figured that he'd have a better time with the one handed straight sword since his gut feeling told him to pick it.

"It look's like I'm probably going to be solo forever." Ventus thought about it for a while, most if not all players were out for themselves. A few of them were mildly selfless, but that was quite rare. "Guess I can only rely on myself huh? What a shame." He carried the cargo by having it tied to his leg, and that did not end very well. If he took one wrong step, all of it would fall and he'd have a hard time picking it all back up, plus, he had that sandstorm to deal with. "I really hate sand, why did I take this quest again?"

The sun was surprisingly hot for a video game, it felt like a whopping one-hundred fifty degrees on the fifth floor. "Damn it... It sucks for people who want a tan, cause they cant in the game." But one question remained unanswered in his mind, how did some people have impossible hair colors? Like pink, red, purple, or those ridiculous bust sizes. "I'm starting to think people do some really crazy things... Or it's just natural. Nah, red haired Japanese people are nearly impossible, they must've dyed it or something."

"Sometimes, I wonder if this is really a video game. It seems very beautiful, but we can die here. But what's the difference from this and the real world? You get one life and that's it." He sympathized with others who thought the game was either one of the two, a death sentence, or heaven. "But for those people with horrible lives... I guess it's a very good escape for them. Especially since I'm one of those people." Everyone playing the game was in there for some reason, but sadly enough, none of them could escape it.

The elapsed time went by very quickly, before he knew it, he arrived at the place he was before to complete the quest. "Hey old lady, I got the cargo you needed." He said it with a smile, but it soon went away once the old lady hit him with a cane. "Don't call me that you whippersnapper! Now what's this about the cargo?" Ventus sighed before getting hit, "Agghh! I-I brought it back m-mam!" He saluted for an odd reason while his body trembled, the NPC eyed him up and down, and then the cargo. "Good job."

Ventus was slightly disappointed, "W-Wait! I've traveled through the desert for two days, and you only tell me good job..." It was saddening, and what was that 'something nice' he'd be getting? The old lady laughed, "You probably want that prize right? Well, if I recall correctly, I used to be an adventurer like you in my young days. Now, what was I talking about again?" The blonde's mouth widened, "What! You mean you forgot already!" She looked him in the eye closely, and them remembered, "Oh yeah! Now if I recall correctly...:"

"Yes! What is it that you remember!" Ventus was eager to know what she was about to say, maybe she knew about an abandoned weapon store or something that he could loot. The old lady hit him with the cane again, "Quiet fool! Now if I recall... I think I had a treasure map from when I was young, it lead to a dungeon of sorts, but I probably don't even have it. But eh, I think I remember the location, it's somewhere, oh wait..." She searched her pockets quickly, but nothing came out. "Well, looks like you're out of luck kid. I lost the map."
