[F8/F4-SP] Going Ape! <<Monkey King>> & <<Essence of Steel>> COMPLETE

Recommended Posts

The next field boss in the trilogy of new quests was found on the 8th floor and after leaving the teleport plaza Seul descended from Florenthia and into the wilderness below. The <<Monkey King>> was supposed to be a gigantic primate capable of eating people whole and murdering players as if they were insects. Or so he heard. Though if it was anything like Byakko he wasn't expecting the fight to last too long. The knight whistled a small tune as he strolled through the forest, hoping the king would just appear so that he could kill it and be back home in time for lunch. "I hope this thing can actually put up a fight... But not too much of a fight. I don't want to die to a monkey-."

A high pitched screech echoed through the area and in the distance he could see trees being flung into the sky. Needless to say, he probably found his target now. Seul drew his dagger and ran off in the direction of the flying plants. When he arrived at the scene the monkey kind was already on a full out rampage. If he didn't kill it soon he was certain the thing would uproot the entire forest. "Oh geez-" He mumbled while activating the Cross Edge. He moved in close to the beast and cut it twice across its form, but was quickly batted away by a large tree being clasped between the king's paws like a club.

He was seeing stars now. Laying on his back, he had just enough strength to tilt his head at an angle to see the boss. Surprisingly enough it looked like the king had lost interest in their battle. Or thought he was dead at least. His health bar would display otherwise though as the damage he suffered from the attack had healed. He still couldn't move, but there wasn't much he could do about that until the stun wore off. If anything, the king was just prolonging his death and the moment Seul was able to move again he'd prove it.

The stun would eventually wear off and with it gone Seul was free to move once more. He sprang to his feet again with little effort before charging at the king and unleashing another Cross Edge that would bring the health of the boss down to the yellow zone. "Didn't forget about me did ya?" He said as the dagger made two cuts through the beast's flesh. The Monkey King didn't particularly like that and retaliated almost instantly with a punch aimed to crush the boy, but Seul raised his shield with enough time to mitigate most of the damage that he would have received and only ended up being pushed back a few feet as a result.

He knocked the monkey's fist aside with his shield and let loose with another Cross Edge to land two strikes on its body. The king reeled backwards in pain and didn't exactly have time to counter as a result. The fight would probably be ending soon or at least Seul hoped so. The boss certainly was more sturdy than Byakko was given the extra mitigation it had but it was still going down at a nice pace all things considered. Maybe he would go down to one of the lower floors after it was dead to do another quest. He still needed another essence to upgrade his coat after all.

The king was mad now and ended up grabbing Seul in his paw. Fingers held tight around the knight's form and prevented much movement, making it difficult for him to land any sort of strike on the boss. He was stuck for the time being and forced to stare the large primate in the face until it decided to either eat him or toss him aside again. He let out a sigh as only one damage had been dealt by the grab and on top of it all his energy was starting to run low.

"Well, I hope you're ready to die." He said with confidence. A quick glance at his health bar showed that he was still at max. In a way he almost felt sorry for the monkey king. To have a human stroll in and completely decimate it must have been a real shock for it, but Seul was done playing now and with the last of his energy he used cross edge on the inside of the monster's palm. The attack brought its health done to zero and caused it to explode afterward. The knight fell to the ground with a nice thud and collected the loot the king left behind. "Humanity 1; monkeys 0."

The battle was over and he was victorious once again. The walk back to town was a peaceful one yet again and it would seem his work on this floor was done for the day. "Alright! Guess I'll rest up and head down to the fourth floor for another quest." He said while entering Florenthia for the second time. The experience he gained from fighting the monkey king would probably be enough to push him to the next level if he went and fought the snow beast as well. Yep, it sounded like a solid plan, but he needed to wait for his energy to restore before making any other moves.

Upon entering town he headed straight for the warp plaza which he would use to travel to the barren wasteland of the fourth floor. It was strange in a way how convenient such a system was. The more he thought about it, the more he figured he'd miss it once he got out of the game. Being able to go anywhere and everywhere at a moment's notice had its perks, but it wasn't like using the actual dungeons wasn't an option. Most times it'd probably take to long to walk between floors, but he'd do it one day if he was determined enough. Or not. Whos knows? 15 floors worth of walking seems a bit much.

He exited the warp plaza in Snowfrost Town with haste. The sooner he collected a second essence the sooner he'd be able to upgrade his coat. Doubling up on quests like this usually wasn't done so soon, but he saw no reason to wait when he was still able bodied and raring to go. The day was still young and the knights didn't need him for any official duties. Rather than just waste time in a tavern somewhere on the first floor he would use these spare moments to strengthen himself. He wanted to endure anything the game had to throw his way and the only way to do that was through training like this.

By the time he reached the edge of town his energy had completely restored. He was ready to fight again and the snow beast wouldn't know what hit it once he arrived on the scene. Still, he couldn't help but let his mind wander as he walked. What could the others have been doing? Maybe they were off in a dungeon somewhere getting stronger. If they were, then Seul had a duty to them to get stronger as well. Killing the monster would allow him to upgrade his gear once again to a point where he would be happy with. If another battle was all it would take he was willing to still fight.

He went through the same procedure as before; knocking on the skull with a bone and waiting for the snow beast to arrive. Only this time he would be the first to strike. He drew his dagger with ease and unleashed the Cross Edge, knocking the monster into the yellow zone in the process, but the boss would get a nice hit in too due to just how close they were fighting. He wasn't too worried though. The fight would be quick and he would heal up on the next turn anyway. "Hirru, you're the best merchant ever."

He brushed off the last attack before moving in to execute his own. The Cross Edge landed again and took off another chunk of the beast's health, but left him open for another hit that would knock off his HP. One more attack would be enough to end the fight and then he could head home and rest up for the final boss of the three new quests. The idea of finally leveling up again excited him and he wasn't about to die here to the snow beast, not when he was so close to getting stronger.

His thoughts must have distracted him. As he wound up for another shot with his sword art, the beast simply slapped him away causing him to hit the snow with a hard thud. His health was starting to deplete, but it was still high enough that he would be able to fight back without too much to worry about. The partial phase on the monster was definitely something to be weary of and if he could avoid its hits altogether that would be preferred to trying to block them. He stood up once more with renewed determination before charging.

The beast wouldn't escape this time. He lunged forward into the four hit sword art, Fad Edge, cutting into the monster several times before it eventually erupted into a shower of pixels. The battle was over and another essence was his for the taking. It truly had been a rewarding day in Aincrad for him as he finished up most of the plans he wanted to get done. All that was left now was the serpent. Hopefully another simple task that would give him enough experience to grandmaster his dagger once it was over.

To think he came so far after all this time. Part of him doubted it would happen at first, but seeing where he was now he was proud of the progress he made to get to where he is today. He wanted nothing more than to survive the game- No, not just survive, but thrive. He wanted to be someone others could depend on. A player that could serve as both a shield and sword for others. Getting as many people out alive would be great, and knowing he had some part in that would be even better. It obviously wouldn't be any easy road to walk, but it was one he wanted to follow nonetheless.

How many people had he influenced so far? Not many... Most probably wouldn't remember him if they met. That wasn't necessarily a bad thing though. Keeping a low profile is often preferred to being the center of attention. Having all eyes on you at all times might be too stressful, especially for someone like him who usually takes things in stride. He must have helped some people at least with his time in the game. There were several instances when low level players teamed up with him to take on various tasks. That had to count for something and even if it didn't he would tell himself it did.

Maybe it was because he was selfish. He wants to feel important and useful in this world. If you weren't able to contribute you'd be left behind in the dust by everyone else. Then if you died no one would care. There'd be no mourning or remembrance. He didn't want that. Or at least he didn't think he wanted that. In reality he had no way of knowing how he'd react to dying until it actually happened. He was fortunate enough to go this long without seeing another player die or being killed himself, but how much longer would such an illusion last. The frontliners were probably used to such things by now. If he joined them would he just be another casualty?

He would shake off such thoughts for now. It did no one any good for him to think about his own death, though it wasn't something that should be put off forever. He would try his best to not let it come to that, but if it happened... Not thinking about it. Another fight would do good to clear his mind. A simple wolf spawned in not too far down the path. With his dagger in hand he unleashed the Cross Edge onto it and brought its health into the red zone with ease while simultaneously blocking one of its claws with his shield.

The wolf was no match for him as he cut through it twice using the Cross Edge. It exploded into pixels and left behind a nice amount of col for him just to make the deal a little sweeter. He was exhausted though. The town wasn't too far away and he would do everything in his power to not fight for the remainder of the trip. "Alright... Tomorrow its own to the snake thing and then off to grandmaster this old thing." It seemed like just yesterday he was using only rank one sword arts and basic gear.
