[SP-F1] A New Type of Bored <<Breaking the Unbreakable>> .:COMPLETE:.

Recommended Posts

Nathan had been lounging about on the first floor in between hunting sessions, watching as the artificial clouds had floated by. He'd been feeling a bit lazy recently and that did not really sit well with his new taking up of arms and renewed determination to progress with the game. He had to get up and do something but he was not entirely sure what. He walked towards the quest bored, sighing most of the way since he really didn't want to be moving, and looked over quests that he might be able to do by himself. There was one that seemed feasible at his current state and he noted the location, southern part of floor two. It would be interesting to go to another floor since he hadn't been yet. He yawned and stretched and headed for the Town of Beginning's teleportation plaza, heading off to the second floor. Immediately he began heading south and almost immediately he saw the mountain which he was going to have to climb. It was a bit depressing realizing he was going to have to climb that but whatever, he was bored and needed something to do. And so he began climbing the mountain towards a challenge that he was not probably ready to undertake quite yet, one that would test his patience and determination to the maximum.

After about an hour of struggling up the rocky terrain Nathan had finally almost reached the top of the mountain and he could just barely make out a hut. He hurried on towards the hut, wanting to begin this quest quickly so he could possibly go relax a bit more on the first floor before finding some other quest to do. As he walked towards the door of the hut Nathan noticed a strangely smooth stone but discounted it as nothing. There were plenty of smooth rocks out there, that one wasn't special even if it looked like it might be since it was in the middle of this guy's yard. Nathan opened the door and walked inside, closing the door behind him and looking for the NPC. He had no clue what this quest was since all he had looked at in the details was the location so he hoped that it was rather easy. It couldn't be terribly difficult, it had been recommended for all players to at least attempt. If anything he could back off. The NPC approached him, a hermit looking man which explained why he was all alone up here, and asked Nathan, "Are you here to accept the challenge?" and immediately a small window popped up asking for him to accept the quest. "Sure, why not?" and so Nathan hit the accept button and the NPC beamed at him, indicating that Nathan should follow him out the door. The NPC lead Nathan towards that rock which he had noted earlier and pointed at it. Surely this wasn't the quest. "You must split the rock.. With your bare hands," the NPC said. And the quest most definitely was this. Nathan opened his menus and unequipped his rapier and approached the rock sizing it up. This was going to take a while.

Hesitantly Nathan walked forward and threw a punch at the rock. He winced as he felt his hand make contact with the hard surface and felt as though he had broken his hand. He backed off, shaking his hand and grunting loudly. This was going to be an interesting experience. Hopefully the reward was worth it. He sat there, looking back and forth between the smiling NPC and the rock. The NPC walked forward and chastised him, saying, "Silly player, you forgot your paint." "My what?" Nathan replied and immediately found out when he had stripes drawn on him and the paint dried quickly. "Your painted whiskers," the NPC said, "I promise they make you stronger." Nathan sure did not feel any stronger but whatever made the NPC happy. He turned towards the rock once more and prepared a follow up punch.

Nathan threw his hand forward towards the rock and felt it connect once more with the solid surface. This time though it felt like a much stronger punch and his hand didn't feel bad at all. Maybe the paint actually did make you stronger.. Looking up Nathan noticed that, sure enough, the health bar had dropped a tiny bit. It was such an insignificantly small amount though that he began to wonder just how long this would take. Even with the added bonus of paint that somehow enhanced his physical abilities... No, the NPC had to be lying about that. There was no way it actually did, it had to have just been a crit attack that he had landed. That was the logical answer. He glared surreptitiously at the still smiling NPC and prepared to throw another punch at the standing stone.

Nathan's hand flew forward once more and once more he was greeted with that dull and throbbing pain that came with the act of being an idiot and punching a rock. Once more he backed off, waving his hand through the air as though that would ease the pain any more. He sighed and looked up at the health bar of the Boulder. At this rate it could well take him years to finish this quest. He needed to step up his game and start dealing some damage. He had much more important things to do than punch rocks for the rest of his life. Sighing softly he approached the rock once more, already regretting coming out here. Now that he was out here though he was going to do his best to see this quest through. There was not any point in leaving an undertaken quest unfinished.

Nathan sized up to the rock once more, glaring at this thick obstruction, and threw his hand forward towards it. His hand landed and it sounded painful even to him. He even whimpered slightly, his hand still connected to the rock since it was too numb for him to pull it back quite yet. "Oh, why did I decide to do this?" The thought flashed through his head before he could stop. He stepped back, nursing his hand, and shook his head. He wasn't going to back down. There was no challenge which perseverance could not see him through. He was going to split this rock even if it took him well over a week. With a shake of his hand and a slow approach he readied for another potentially painful punch. It was amazing how much this enemy who was not hitting him hurt him.

"It's amazing how rocky a mountain is," Nathan thought as he tripped over a stone that jutted over the ground. He watched as the looming mass of earth sat in front of him, ready to receive his face as he fell. There was no option, he had to close his eyes before impact. With a resounding smack he slammed his head against the rock, knocking him dizzy. With a thud he hit the ground and just lay there a bit before even trying to move. This was becoming a little bit frustrating for Nathan. He picked himself off the ground and glared at the rock, intending to beat the ever living crap out of it. He knew he was most definitely not the strongest person but he was definitely not going to let a rock beat him in a fight. It couldn't even attack back! It would be pitiful for him not to win this eventually.

Nathan walked forward once more, anger rising in him at this stupid rock which refused to die. He stood in a position which he assumed fighters did before delivering blows, of course he had little experience with such attacks. He threw a straight right at the rock and there was another resounding sound, this time coming from the rock. Nathan quickly looked up and noticed that the HP bar had fallen a small amount once again. He shrugged slightly, progress was progress no matter how small. He nursed his hand a bit but the pain wasn't terrible this time. It was just like any other time that you would decide to punch a rock, simply throbbing pain that rewarded you for you being an idiot. He sized up once more and prepared to throw another punch.

Nathan approached the Boulder slowly, intent on dealing some more damage. He threw a quick jab at the rock and followed it with a more solid punch, the jab having only really glanced off. The solid punch landed with a stinging pain but it had delivered some force into the rock. Nathan glanced up at the Boulder's health bar once more and couldn't quite tell if he had done damage or not. If he had it had been such a ridiculously small amount that he was not able to tell the difference between how full the bar was. He let loose a loud sigh, just now realizing how long this might take if he was this ineffective. Resigning himself to maybe a day's worth of punching he sized up once more, ready to take another stab, with his fist that is, at this defying rock.

Nathan threw his arm forward with a straight punch right at the center of the rock and was rewarded with another sound of success. He could feel and hear when his blows were at least successful so he didn't even bother looking up. He could tell that had been a good hit without checking up at the health bar. Still though, with the rate this was going he very well could be stuck here for quite a long time. And he did not have anything savoury to eat. All that he had with him was some bread and water from when the game started and he was not entirely sure how well that was faring after such a long time. Guess that just meant he had to start hitting harder and finish this quest quickly.

Nathan sized up at the rock again and concentrated all his energy into his fist, wanting to deliver an extremely powerful punch. Nathan stepped forward and threw his hand forward as forcefully as he could and his hand landed with a resounding smack. Nathan groaned loudly as he pulled his hand back and it was a bright red and throbbing all over. He had delivered too much power and ended up hurting himself instead of the rock, thankfully not enough for his health to drop any but it was still an unpleasant feeling. He began nursing his hand once more and glared at the rock. It was mocking him for not being able to beat an inanimate object in a fight, he swore on that. "This is ridiculous. Now the rock's mocking me. I'm going to go insane before this quest is done with!" The sad thing was, this thought seemed to be true. He was getting really irritated with this rock's refusal to just split for him. This quest was most definitely not healthy for players. Only a sadistic mastermind would dare conceive such a quest.

This was becoming rather pitiful to Nathan. He had come here oh so confident that the quest would be stupidly easy. Just an in and out sort of task where he did not have to worry at all. Here he was though, getting irritated with a rock. He sighed softly and approached the rock. He sized up to the rock, using the opposite stance so he could punch with his left hand now, and threw the punch. He whimpered as his weaker hand smashed into the rock and produced a whole bunch of pain. After letting loose a few choice words he turned back to the rock, anger growing hot on his face. He was not going to be bested by this stupid pile of stone.

Nathan threw a punch at the boulder, letting all this tension out in one punch. His punch landed with a resounding smack, one that indicated another successful attack. He smiled, amazed that such an attack had worked. He would have to be careful about how he balanced his anger, otherwise his anger at the boulder might result in a punch similar to a previous one where it hurt him more than he hurt the boulder. He backed off from the boulder and shook his hand about as he tried to assuage some of the throbbing pain. After a minute's respite he approached the boulder once more, ready to take out some more aggression on the boulder

Nathan sized up to the boulder, trying to think of something that he could let drive him to another strong blow. Those months of doing nothing. Where he had just sat in the Town of Beginner's and was lazy. He had felt like such a coward for sitting there and not having done anything with himself. Nathan threw a quick jab forward and heard yet another resounding smack as his fist made solid contact with the smooth stone. This sound caused another smile to creep onto his face, a bit of that weight taken off his chest. Who knew that beating up on a rock would turn out to be therapeutic? Nathan backed off and massaged his hand a bit, the constant punching now starting to make his hand a bit numb.

Nathan sized up to the rock once more and punched once more, trying to take some more of the weight of the laziness off his chest. That had really been bugging him over the time period but he had done nothing about it. The punch landed but it was off center not a solid contact. He ended up scraping his hand across the stone, a burning sensation erupting on his hand as he felt like he was rubbing his skin off. He backed away from the rock wincing and nursing his hand. Quickly he made a mental not to try and always land his blows in the center and to make sure that his blows landed flat and solid. That pain hadn't been pleasant at all and Nathan would rather avoid that if possible.

After the pain had ebbed a bit so that he could easily move his fingers without wincing, Nathan once again approached the rock. He sized up to the rock and prepared himself for another throwing of a punch. His fist flew forward and landed soundly but it lacked the power of the other punches.  Nathan could feel the weakness of the punch and frowned slightly at that. He would not have to allow himself to start throwing weak punches. This was going to take long enough as it was. He backed off and stretched a bit, trying to relax himself before throwing another punch. It was now that Nathan wished he had spent a bit more time learning useful things like how to punch or fight in general. Amazingly enough, that type of knowledge would be quite useful in his life right now.

Nathan stretched for a few minutes then approached the rock slowly. He sized up and rocked on the balls of his feet. All he wanted right now was one perfect punch from him. If he could do that then he would be happy with himself. He raised his fists up and continued moving slightly so he was never just standing still and letting his muscles relax. He stepped forward quickly and threw a punch at the center of the rock, putting all of his body behind the punch. The sound of the rock being hit reaching his ears and a smile creeping across his face Nathan backed off from the rock and looked up at the rock. He saw that the health bar had dropped down around a fifth. That was some progress, much more than he thought he would have made by this point. Maybe he could get this done faster than he was beginning to hope.

Nathan, cocky from the last extremely successful punch, immediately followed it up with a punch. He did not size up or ready a stance whatsoever so the punch was weak. His fist flew forward slowly and barely seemed to even make a sound as it landed, an indication at the extreme lack of power behind the punch. Nathan frowned and shook his arm a bit, which was getting tired from the repeated punching now. Now was most definitely not the time to take a break though. There was a quest which needed completing. Remembering his previous mistake Nathan made a conscientious effort of readying his stance so that he could throw a worthy punch hopefully.

Nathan, having made sure that his stance was good many times, readied himself to throw another punch. He brought his fists up once again and kept his eye on the center of the rock. He took a step forward quickly and threw his fist forward. He stepped into the punch, making sure that there was definitely some power behind it. Nathan felt the contact and quickly afterward heard the solid sound of a nice punch. Nathan smiled and backed off, shaking his hand a bit. All he had to do was keep throwing punches like that and he would be done in no time. After the throbbing stopped he stepped forward once more, getting himself within the vicinity of the tall stone that stood defiantly before many questers.

Nathan took a stance in front of the stone and readied himself for another punch. He resumed the sort of dancing that kept his body active and then darted forward. As he quickly approached the rock he threw his fist out in front of him, trying his best to get his weight behind the punch. He stumbled a bit and this reduced his speed as well as throwing him off balance so all the power that could possibly have been behind the punch was dissipated as he regained his balance. The punch landed weakly against the rock, so weak that it did not even reward Nathan with that stinging or throbbing pain that was generally accompanied the punches. He had quite literally just touched the big rock.

Nathan backed away from the rock a bit and took a few deep breaths. The repetitiveness of the chore was starting to get to him. He was doing the same thing over and over again yet he was not skilled enough in melee to just fall into a routine. He had to consciously check that each punch was a strong punch. He shook his arms a bit and walked towards the rock once more and sized up to it as he had many times before. He rocked on the balls of his feet, trying to find a rhythm that felt good for balance so he could transfer as much weight into his punch as possible. Then Nathan darted forward and threw his fist in front of him, pushing as much force behind the throw as he could. His fist landed with a loud smack and he swore he felt the rock crack a bit underneath his hand a bit. With a small smile he pulled his hand away and noted a tiny crack, barely visible. It was not much but it was a sign that the rock was starting to wear.
