Creius 0 Posted June 2, 2016 #1 Share Posted June 2, 2016 (edited) Nathan had been on a roll with the amount of quests that he had taken up and completed recently but there had been one quest that he had been avoiding taking up again for quite a while. It was Secret Medicine of the Forest of course, the quest that he had last done with Brax and Morgenstern before they disappeared and he fell into that deep hole of nothingness. Now, though, he was really strong. He had never really reaped any rewards from the quest so he was going to go back and get said rewards. Once more he took up his blade and prepared his armour and headed off to the small village that would give him the quest to try again. With his current level of skill the quest should be rather easy, maybe a bit tedious at most. Though, recently quite a few quests had been like that. He shrugged mentally, he was doing some of the easier quests. Hopefully things would get a little more challenging soon enough as he grew, otherwise it would all feel wasted. Creius 0 Posted June 2, 2016 Author #2 Share Posted June 2, 2016 Nathan walked down the road on the first floor, heading in the direction of the small town. He knew exactly where he was going, he had already walked this path before. He could see the shadows of his first party and former comrades as they walked together. Their time had been short but he had been hopeful that maybe he was growing to be more acceptable. He sighed at this though, realizing that he had done everything but grown more acceptable about humanity. He had spent all this time alone and just silently brooding to himself. Just recently he had started talking to people and picked up a little pet to keep him company on the long journeys. He smiled as he thought of little Hector keeping guard back at his shop in the Town of Beginnings. Companions were nice but he did not trust humans, that is what made Hector so awesome. His familiar wouldn't, or couldn't, betray him meaning that there was an open level of trust. Absolutely no worries.
Creius 0 Posted June 2, 2016 Author #3 Share Posted June 2, 2016 (edited) Nathan occupied his time with such tracks of thoughts, just sorta reflecting over how much he had receded after Brax and Morgenstern had left as well as how much he had grown since then. The walk to the village felt short because of this and, soon enough, he arrive there. Nathan looked around the village and smiled slightly as he recalled arriving there with his companions. No point lingering in the past though, he shoved the thoughts from his head and approached a very old elder man who was extremely distressed. Upon approaching the man the request for a medicine from the Nepents was literally spat at him, Nathan wiping his cheek off. Of course, Nathan accepted the quest. It was why he had walked all the way over here after all. With the quest accepted, Nathan turned and walked out of the village and into the nearby forest. Creius 0 Posted June 2, 2016 Author #4 Share Posted June 2, 2016 (edited) The nearby forest was dimly lit by the artificial sun of Aincrad, the shadows casting eerie lights upon the trees and plants. Nathan listened attentively for any sign of approaching trouble but there were no immediate signs of any Nepents. With this realization, Nathan pressed onwards, deeper into the forest. As he walked he noticed that there were many plants around that might prove valuable for his craft so he began looking in earnest for such materials. He walked down the worn paths of the forest, scanning all the surrounding areas for any thing which he could use later. During his searching he noticed one promising plant. He walked off the path and to the plant, wanting to inspect it closely. When Nathan bent down to look closer he noticed that it was quite a useful material, a nice tough bark while still soft. Would be good for some clothing so he picked it and added it to his inventory. ID#60351 LD:16 +1 Material Edited June 2, 2016 by Creius

There stood a large plant monster, the Nepent. Nathan smiled slightly and began to draw Bloodletter, which was still in its sheath unlike his usual practice of always being ready. That was just a sign of how overconfident he was in taking this quest on. The Nepent, however, would not allow this. Almost immediately its vine arms shot forward and Nathan had to run back a bit in order to escape the attack. The Nepent stumbled forward slowly and approached Nathan once more, ready to have another round of fighting. Edited June 2, 2016 by Creius

The Nepent's range was too much though for Nathan's headlong charge. The vine arms went forward again and met Nathan, slapping him a few times practically harmlessly. Nathan fought back at the arms but could not seem to hit them so he backed off a bit and looked at the Nepent, which was now approaching him. Headlong charges would not work, the Nepent had far too much range for him to just charge in a straight line like that again. Edited June 2, 2016 by Creius

His sword flashed twice in quick succession in order to create the V that was so familiar to him after all the combat that he had been in. Nathan turned to this new Nepent and ran forward, accessing the sword art system once more. He came in on the Nepent's flank and slashed his sword, the blade glittering a brilliant red. Quickly and efficiently the letter V was drawn onto this new Nepent and it froze, just like its brother had, and dissolved into pixels. Nathan was a little shocked to see the Nepent actually provide a material drop, thinking that he was so far above this level of enemy that he would get absolutely nothing. At the falling of its two smaller brother this fruit bearing Nepent slowly approached Nathan. Nathan smiled as the quest mob came out and charged at it, accessing the sword art system. He weaved in and out of the Nepent's arms and finally came upon the body. Quickly he unleashed Rip Ravine and in a brilliant show of blood red, yet another V had been carved into a mob in such little time. Creius 0 Posted June 2, 2016 Author #11 Share Posted June 2, 2016 (edited) Nathan whistled softly, that quest had been really easy. He had already accomplished the set parameters. Might as well hunt for a few more materials while he was out in the woods. Nathan looked around his general vicinity, searching for anything that might possibly be of use. He walked around a bit and searches at the base of the tree trunks, looking for plants that he recognized or plants that seemed like could be used for his craft. Upon his initial searching he found nothing which would prove useful so he moved on to the next area. ID#60538 LD:13 Edited June 2, 2016 by Creius
Creius 0 Posted June 2, 2016 Author #12 Share Posted June 2, 2016 (edited) Nathan walked onto the next little area of the forest, searching around for plants that would be useful. He checked in similar spots as he had before, at the base of trees and near rocks and other places which seemed to be lush with greenery and were most promising of yielding materials that he could take back to his shop. As he looked around he had to squint and really try hard to inspect what he was looking at so that he could actually evaluate the worth of the plants which he was looking at. As he looked around he finally came upon a plant which was promising so he bent down and harvested it, adding a material to his inventory. Creius 0 Posted June 2, 2016 Author #13 Share Posted June 2, 2016 (edited) Nathan smiled and continued to search in the same area but found quickly there was no more plants that were worth using, the remaining ones would have made terrible quality clothing so it was worthless to him. Therefore, he moved on to the next part of the forest, scanning it for any plants which would prove most valuable to Nathan. This area showed some promise so he searched in earnest for some sort of plant that he could harvest for later use. All of Nathan's searching proved useless though because, even if it showed promise, there was absolutely nothing worth harvesting in this part of the forest. Creius 0 Posted June 2, 2016 Author #14 Share Posted June 2, 2016 (edited) Nathan moved on to the next part of the forest since the previous area, which had seemed to hold so much promise, had turned out to be a dud. In this new area he began searching in the usual spots near trees and rocks as he looked for the types of plants he always did. His searching carried him throughout the entire clearing, his mind calculating the potential worth of a material based on the probability that he could make a good tier item of it. It was guess work of course but it helped him decided what he wanted so he did the process anyways. The system once again decided that there was nothing of worthy value within this part of the forest. Time to move on apparently. Creius 0 Posted June 2, 2016 Author #15 Share Posted June 2, 2016 (edited) Nathan began walking, going a far way from where he had previously been standing. He started heading towards the edge of the forest closest to the village but did not leave the forest yet, he wanted to try and find one more material before he went and turned in the quest. Therefore Nathan began exploring the edges of the forest as he searched for a useful material that he approved of. Something that would make someone a nice shirt or a firm piece of light armour. He did not find anything with his initial searching though, no material worthy plants. ID#60363 LD:8 Edited June 2, 2016 by Creius
Creius 0 Posted June 2, 2016 Author #16 Share Posted June 2, 2016 (edited) Since a cursory glance was not enough Nathan went over the same area with an eye that was out for more detail. He considered more factors of the plant, taking into consideration the luck factor. This way took more time but generally resulted in more materials as long as he kept at it long enough. The problem was, though, that he did not know how long he wanted to spend on the edge of this forest looking for materials when there were probably better places to find the plants he needed and there was no point in comparing loot drops from mobs. The detailed search paid off though, he found a material and bent over to harvest it, adding the material to his inventory. Creius 0 Posted June 2, 2016 Author #17 Share Posted June 2, 2016 (edited) One more material would be nice, just to make walking out here truly worth his time. Nathan continued his detailed search over the plants, hoping there would be a material which he would gauge to be of great worth. He moved on from where he had found the other plant, checking another section of the edge of the forest. He looked over each plant individually and decided various statistics which made the plant more or less valuable to him. There was one plant which he was heavily considering, it seemed to be right on the border. He dithered over it for a bit and finally decided that it was not worth his time. Nathan turned away from the plant and the forest. ID#60366 LD:8 Edited June 2, 2016 by Creius
Creius 0 Posted June 2, 2016 Author #18 Share Posted June 2, 2016 (edited) Nathan began walking away from the forest and heading back towards the town. That quest had been really easy for this stronger Nathan and that kind of made it boring. He had finished it so early that there had been plenty of time for him to hunt for a few materials before he headed back to turn in the quest. Without that sense of danger then there seemed to be little point in playing. Nathan sighed softly, but of course there was the fact that if there was really danger then he could die. It was a strange dilemma but he would get through it none the less. He was not going to let boredom stop him from progressing through this game and becoming really strong. Creius 0 Posted June 2, 2016 Author #19 Share Posted June 2, 2016 (edited) Nathan entered the village and headed over to the center of said settlement. There stood the worried old NPC who immediately began questioning Nathan if he had the ovule. A little bit annoyed by the incessant questioning Nathan opened his inventory quickly, took the "Nepent's Ovule" out quickly, and tossed it to the NPC, surprisingly enough, quickly. The NPC babbled on a bit about how Nathan was a generous hero and that the town owed him so much. There was a mention of a sword which would be given, a sword that Nathan could not use he realized now, and then that was it. The small window popped up and Nathan hit accept and he had officially completed <<Secret Medicine of the Forest>>. Edited June 2, 2016 by Creius
Creius 0 Posted June 2, 2016 Author #20 Share Posted June 2, 2016 Nathan left the village shortly afterwards. He did not feel all that special after beating the quest. It had been too easy. It had offered absolutely no challenge at all. Nathan felt... Too strong. That was so strange because he had been working for so long now to be strong all by himself and here he was, wondering if he was advancing too fast. These were not good thoughts to have, doubt was a dangerous murderer of dreams and expectations. In this game especially, he could not let doubt start to sink into his mind or else he would begin to falter. Faltering would lead to death and death was a permanent game over in this game. With that thought flying through his mind he suddenly shoved all thoughts of doubt out of his head and continued walking towards the Town of Beginnings.
