[SP-F6] Mirror Mirror <<The Gemini>>

Recommended Posts

Emerald eyes stared into emerald eyes. The eyes, despite matching in colour and shape, lacked the softness... they were some how more brutal. Hunie huffed and and blew a strand of her blonde hair away from her face. Facing herself was definitely a weird experience. It was however fulfilling to see her form stand on it's own two feet. The twins (one real and one a twisted reflection the game created), stood slightly crouched, poised to strike. Sophie eyed the armour she had donned, mimicked by her enemy. It was professionally made, the metal that followed her long skirt didn't do much to flaunt her legs, not that Sophie had ever had a chance to do that... deep in her consciousness a small, vane voice rose and added that task to her to do list. The waist of the outfit cinched above her hips, lightly, it made her look like a sweet little girl. But now was not the time to scrutinize her appearance. It was time to settle this. The pair of them slashed their swords through the air, neither hitting the mark... It appeared that Hunie's mirror was just as bad as she was, at weilding this heavy sword.

The pair circled each other now. Hunie didn't know what it was about this quest, but it made her feel ambitious, in a way that she had never felt before. It wasn't the good kind of ambitious either... It was the scary kind. The blonde tried to figure out what it was that made her feel so fierce. Perhaps it was the darkness and brutality that flashed in the eyes of the likeness that the game had created of her. Watching those expressions marring her face, made her feel like a new person. It was emotions she thought she wasn't capable of feeling, so obviously had never seen her face look this...  well, evil.  Without realizing it, the young girl was mimicking her simulated twin. Duel to death... She found herself thinking. Those words would have never escaped her mouth, yet she had just seen her lips form them, it was all a very out of body experience. In any case she had no choice but to destroy her alleged evil self, because losing would mean death. For the second time, swords were swung to no avail. If nothing else, this would prove good grounds to practice with GoreHowl.

Things were really slowing down now. Despite the threatening stance and the scarier expressions, counterfeit Hunie seemed to have no moves to back her more evil demeanour. Sophie remained poised, also feeling a nagging pull of uncertainty, especially with the lack of attack from her opponent. What if this is a ploy of some sort? She asked herself. There was a chance that upon harming this image she actually drained her own health? In all honesty, was there really a limit to Kayaba's fantasies... In either case, the two blondes, one real and one not, seemed to have reached an impasse, as to who would make the first move. The circling intensified. The image did some fancy sword move purposely away from Hunie, just as a display of her prowess. Either it was a fluke, or Sophie's deductions about fake Hunie being as bad with the GoreHowl as she was, weren't true. The pause didn't last too long, till the fake Hunie finally lost her (probably limited) patience and swung into a critical attack. Sophie, too startled to do anything, stopped her attack mid-swing and raised her abusive gauntlets in defence. Most of the other girl's attack was absorbed by little Ms. Hunter's outfit.

Hunie was still wincing from the clang of metal on metal. The girl found herself reflecting on the choice of her equipment. Sophie was surprised with the fact that the counterfeit GoreHowl did not shred her armour. No matter what the result of the battle, it would prove to be something to ponder upon. Either her sword would pierce through the game spawned twin's armour, or her armour would prove weak against the opponent's two handed straight sword - GoreHowl. Since they two were using the same items, it only made sense... However there was a possibility, that the inherent quality of her equipment was better than that of the game made version of her. More authentic, so to say. Hoping that was the case, Hunie took a step back repositioning herself in the fight. This time when the alter Hunie swung her great dark sword, the blonde was prepared with her gauntlet block. The thorns sprouted out of the gauntlets, spiking through fake Hunie's armour and damaging her wrist.

The sapphire eyed girl was debating whether to attack or not. Given her proficiency with the sword it didn't make much sense. So Hunie stood around and waited for the other girl to strike again. The blonde had figured out that her armour was much more superior to that of her adversary. If the trustee thorns stayed true to their function, despite the fancy sword arts that the spawned twin displayed, the fight would end in real Hunie's favor. Just as predicted, soon enough the other girl lunged in with another attack, Hunie maintained her defensive position, arms linked front of her so that the thorns on her gauntlets could do their magic. The dark sword was raised, pointing skyward, held fast in her right first, which was engulfed by the left hand for support. "This can go on forever..." Hunie braved a little slander at her opponent who had just lost another sizable slice of her healthbar by simply running into the thorns that appeared on the gauntlets.

The frustrated fake Hunie just let out a wail of angst, something real Hunie would have never done, for fear of being rather impolite. Frustration wasn't an emotion Sophie could ever risk displaying. It'd be far too inconsiderate and ungrateful of her to let everyone around her know how tough it was to be confined by a wheelchair. She had done well in learning how to conceal such feelings, in order to make everyone around her feel complacent and not as helpless as she truly was. In all fairness the ones who loved her did try everything within their power to make her all right, it truly would belittle their efforts if she let them know how dependent she was and how sad it made her feel. That was in the past, now here she was in this game, for who knows how long... The task at hand had become relatively easy and repetetive. Sophie stuck with her tried and tested method while taking note of fake Hunie's moves in an absent-minded manner.

Hunie's challenger stopped, briefly. The change in the routine had Sophie's rapt attention. Her grip on the hilt of the sword tightened. The flat of the blade was inches away from her nose, her eyes peeking on either side of the sharp jagged shredder. Her twin walked towards her casually. "I know what you are Hunie." She said softly. "You're naive, people will play you like a fiddle, you have no chance of making it in this game." So now the game was resorting to cheap pot shots and sledging. Unfortunately, for fake Hunie, it didn't work on Sophie. Overtime, she had learned to take things in stride and besides, it was true that Sophie was a little naive, but so far her innocence had earned her quite a few friends who'd be willing to help her make it through this game. The eviler her twin grew, the easier it was for Hunie to dissociate her identity from the figure and face that had sworn to take her down. The blonde held her ground as a swift attack followed... Once again the gauntlets she had gotten off a sweet blacksmithing girl did their magic... Her opponents HP was down by almost fifty percent.

"You're never going to see your family again... Never will you speak to your precious brother again... Life, as you knew it is over. This is all you have now." Fake Hunie spat, gesturing to the surroundings around them, presumably talking about SAO. Her narrowed eyes, ruined the resemblance between the two blondes. Sophie's eyes widened further, but she didn't react yet. Mostly because, what the mean little alter outlined, was not a possibility that the girl had ruled out. In fact, Sophie tried to live it up just a little, in order to keep her mind of her family and the ache she felt for having been away for them for so long. "Think about it, you've not got a single real friend here... Or there." The game spawned girl added, the there indicating real life most likely. Then, flourishing her sword through the air, she leaped and landed close to Sophie's side, the blade missed the blonde's head by a carefully calculated inch, so that one could presume it was a deliberate inaccuracy. "Would it matter all that much if I finished you right here?" Sophie remained frozen, now a little shocked. That was a gravity defying leap, and with the large great sword, something like that would have been impossible for real Hunie to do... "I'm just toying with you. Just like everyone does."

The sapphire eyed girl gritted her teeth. Tears were threatening to brim her eyes... But she couldn't really feel them yet. There was still hope. She wasn't going to break so easily. She let out a soft groan of frustration. Things seemed to be going right where the game wanted... "If you don't like it.. why not try to so show me what you can do?" Asked the doppelganger with a laugh as she took a step back and then turned around, taunting her original to try and cowardly attack her. It couldn't be seen, but she wore a dreaded smirk on her face, throwing her blonde hair to the side to peek on her original's actions. She was 100% sure that Sophie won't attack...or it wasn't in her character to do so. Sophie heard the bait in her adversary's voice. She gripped the hilt of her Greatsword tighter, almost feeling the power flurry through her hands as she contemplated rising to the challenge. But just as the time came, to actually swing the thing, Sophie remained frozen. Somehow destroying her likeness wasn't turning out to be easy... All she could do was remain passive and hope her trusty armour continued aiding her...

Feeling nothing like a strike on her exposed back, or even the sound of steps closing on her, the gemini turned around with a elegant swing: "I knew you wouldn't do it... You'd rather have me attack you.... punish you." she said with a giggle. Hunie whimpered softly at that cruel giggle. The girl had always felt worthless. She'd always thought she deserved nothing of what she got. That had she been unlucky enough to be born in a less wealthy family, she'd be the outcast no one cared about. This was tough to take, no one had ever spoken to her like this. In all honestly, the girl had never faced any ridicule, she had just assumed of its existence in her head, given that she was disabled.

The Gemini was relentless, she gripped the hilt of the sword with both hands and without warning, went and slashed at the girl again. A prickly sensation came across the game spawned monster as she felt Sophie's passive armor ability take action. "Even if you don't want to kill me, the thorn are still there.. the same enhancement you choose to put on your armor... Letting me hit you in knowledge of its existence makes you no less guilty than slaying me yourself." Roared the Gemini. "Stand up and fight!" Hunie was overwhelmed with guilt. The blond closed her turquoise eyes and gnawed at her lip. The tension was palpable. That last statement had served its purpose... Hunie just stood there resolute, unsure of what to do. The comments slowly seeping into her thoughts... "I-I don't like violence..." She said pathetically. This was weird, simply because up until now all the in game violence had meant pressing buttons. Actually slashing at someone so realistic and so... her... Was much tougher.

"Aww... You don't like violence is it..." The Gemini mocked, talking in a high pitched baby voice. "All right, I promise, no more violence, let's talk. She added menacingly while making an elaborate display of sheathing the GoreHowl replica back into the sheath and taking a step towards Hunie. "You poor little girl..." The evil blonde whispered softly, cooing into Hunie's ears. "You've got so far on being pitied haven't you? On being the damsel in distress..." It was easy for her to know all this. This player had been an open book to all the NPCs she'd interacted with, the game had all the data it needed to tear the girl apart. Hunie had mentioned all sorts of things, telling them about her family, about her desires and dreams, about her follies and quirks. Silly child. The girl probably had trust issues, she hardly ever spoke to anyone real. The only one she had spoken to, had unfortunately been a victim and succumbed to death. The Gemini's eyes glinted with pleasure. Hunie had mentioend her unease over the lack of contact from that player... And still was unaware of his death. The evil blonde wasn't going to spoil that news for her, not yet. "It's so easy for you to believe people don't want you. Isn't it?" She added, letting all the meanness seep into every syllable. "Well guess what? They don't." The twin broke into a peal of laughter, which resonated off the walls in the dungeon. "Nobody does." She said stressing and hinting at the lack of contact that had disturbed the girl.

Despite the 'Let's talk' dripping with acidic menace, the blonde was happy with the respite from fighting. The girl knew she was going to win, however, the mind games were becoming soul numbingly painful. Imitating her enemy, the girl sheath her sword as well. Her armour was still equipped just in case the Gemini decided to spring another sudden attack. Some quiet filled the room as counterfeit Hunie stepped up closer to face Sophie. The silence was soon shattered by her enemy's whispered jibs. Sophie kept shut, trying to gather her resources to find out where the game had found so much intel on her. It didn't take long for her to realise... Without realising, or any character intent, all the NPCs that Hunie had ever spoken to had betrayed her. They had all helped the game collect intimate data about the girl and now Kayaba's creation was relentless in using it against her. Sophie endured the slanders in bitter silence, still unwilling to bring herself to swing her sword. Hunie just violently shook her head, in response to everything the NPC said, denying it all. She didn't play the damsel in distress... Though it was true, it was easy for the blonde to believe no one wanted her. Just recently, she had noticed Ssendom vanish from her friendlist, he had probably realised what a liability she was and decided it wasn't worth his time to help her after all... Or maybe he thought Hunie like the other girl would probably vanish for good... No one wants you. The words echoed in Sophie's head. It was almost like the Gemini was trying to induce suicidal feelings in the girl...

Weak. So weak. Despite the promise of 'just talk' the mob couldn't help herself. Hunie was just being such a pathetic loser and a wimp. She watched her figure visibly shake. God, I'm literally showing her what she can be and instead she chooses to be that? The Gemini thought. This was a make or break thread. It was skewered in the favour of the players, but the Gemini was a cruel adversary for sure. Along with it, it also showed the player the violence that they can personally be capable of. Hunie however did not take the bait. She remained unchanged, such weakness had to die! The Gemini thought. Briefly choosing to ignore the damage from the thorns and engulfed by anger caused by the stupid staunch and stubbornly non-violent ways of Hunie. In a flash she released the large sword from it's sheath and sliced upwards across Hunie's torso, only to get caught by her gauntlet's thorns again. "Gah! Your stupid passive thorns." she hissed. "So this is how you plan to fight your stalker?" The Gemini completed, hitting the nail in the coffin.

The one thing the blonde didn't like was being betrayed. For some reason, the NPCs had always been reasonable in this game. Suddenly having such a bad experience with one was getting on Sophie's nerves. Once she figured out that the NPC was trying to drive her into being suicidal, the girl steeled her will and refused to fall prey to the snide comments the fake Hunie bestowed her with. But what broke the sapphire eyed girl out of her reverie was the NPC attacking her while she had assumed they were not going to be fighting anymore. Attacking someone while they were unarmed just breaks all fighting code. Sophie thought in her head and she knew that arguing this with the NPC was pointless. Hunie let it slip, now wearing a more resolute expression. "So this is how you plan to fight your stalker?" she had said. Punctuating her question with another slash... At the mention of her stalker, she felt her heartbeat rise in anticipation. It was finally time to prove her worth. Besides, like the NPC had stated before, Hunie was guilty of killing nonetheless... Sophie fathomed that this quest was about fighting your inner demons and that she had to win. It was about time that she started believing that she mattered. Sophie couldn't figure out, what exactly broke in her... But she had had enough. Mimicking the NPC, she slid GoreHowl out of it's sheath and slashed straight across her armour clad chest.

The frustrated Gemini had questioned about the stalker, smirked prepared to slash again. That's when she saw the fury flash in the other girl's eyes. The Gemini smiled... It was finally working. Hunie used the sword art <<cyclone>> spinning violently and uncontrollablyA thin red line opened into the Gemini's chest. "Finall-" counterfeit Hunie spoke, jubilant at getting a reaction out of the girl and then another three thin lines followed. Unfortunately for the mob, the thin slices opened into wide gashes of red pixels. She looked at Hunie wide eyed, mimicking the expression the player had worn earlier in the game. Hunie stood with her eyes narrowed, waiting in anticipation to see if her attack had struck true. They had exchanged places. Before bursting into red pixels, the mob smiled again... "I won." She croaked. With that the room was filled with red crystals, which quickly turned light blue and vanished.
A quest completion window popped up in front of her. The girl moved slowly, eventually her shaking finger managed to hover  over and press the yes  option.

Hunie was left alone to her own devices again. Guilt swamped her, body and soul, as she crumpled to the floor of the dungeon. It was true, the mob had won, it had finally succeeded in eliciting an attack from Hunie... A finishing move as it may be. This had been one of the most nerve wrecking and emotional quests she had undertaken. The mob had brought up so many touchy points... She thought of feeling unwanted and willed herself to never feel that way again. Hunie also swore to work on getting stronger quickly so she could face her stalker soon... Then she thought of Dom and told herself that she would make an effort to find him and try to understand why he was treating her the way he had once been treated... "I'm going to stay alive and stay strong! I will meet my family again." She verbally sealed her vows.

The girl sat in the dungeon for a while, trying to calm her shaking self and desperately fan the embers of resolution that glowed in her heart. Hunie had killed mobs before, but they weren't so... Human. The girl had never attacked any other NPCs in the game. The hooded creature of The Gemini had remained to calm and collected while offering his quest. Only adding the sharp conditions after Hunie had accepted and the morphing into an evil alter. She looked around at the desolate looking dungeon. She unequipped her gauntlets briefly and let her fingers absently stroke the ground underneath her. Her fingers ran over something pointy, curiously she dug around the spot to reveal a small shiny gem like stone. Pausing to observe it, she noticed the light catch onto it. Eventually the girl added it to her inventory.

How real everything was, and yet it wasn't... But this was going to be her new reality for a while. Something about the way The Gemini had behaved, confirmed that for her. She reached for the clasp on her released the clip that held her blonde strands together, also undoing the hair band she had on, she let the locks flow to her shoulder. The girl sighed deeply. At least there is no pain. She reminded herself in hopes of feeling a little better. The wave of resolute will that had taken her over, faded slowly. Sophie sighed deeply, finally finding the courage to sheath her sword, accepting that weapon of death as her own again. She didn't belong here, the girl doubted that she had the potential to be as strong as some of the others she had seen. Another shiny object was noticed by the girl, picked up and added to her inventory. In return I get small pseudo gems... She thought ungratefully and bitterly.

The blonde realised, like she did after every quest she undertook, that she would have to become stronger and that she would have to do it faster. The stalker had decreased the frequency with which he bothered her, but she was no stranger to his voice occasionally. Still whispering disturbing things in her ears. Fighting the Gemini just made her feel weaker. Now she had two set of voices to haunt her in her sleep. Her sea green eyes brimmed with tears once again, her compassion ran too deep. Now she found herself questioning whether she could even raise a sword against another in self defence. The girl had no ambitions for reaching the Frontlines and clear floors, although that would be ideal and she would help clear the floors, Hunie just didn't see it happening in the near future. There were others who used this opportunity to be heroes, to be something they could have probably never been in real life, the blonde cursed herself for not being like them... That ambitious, perhaps even that selfless.

Hunie found herself thinking of what Raun would do, had he been here in place of her. Made a lot more real friends, that's for sure. Hunie thought. Her brother had an amicable personality. He would have probably concocted a strategy to beat the floors, although she wasn't sure if he had the patience to grind and actually climb his way to the top and be a frontliner himself. Finally, the tears found their release and streamed down Hunie's cheeks. This quest had her feeling all sorts of things, hatred towards herself, nostalgic for what she was missing, angry at being manipulated this way... It was just heart wrenching. She gathered herself and decided it was finally time to leave. The blonde finally made her way out of the Dungeon. She was greeted by a lot of light. Initially the rays blinded her, eventually her sea colored eyes adjusted. The girl turned and noticed the entrance again, it made her shudder as she turned away, she tripped over a rock. Upon looking down she noticed it shined like her eyes. The girl freed it from the ground and added it to her inventory.
