Creius 0 Posted June 7, 2016 #1 Share Posted June 7, 2016 (edited) Nathan teleported into Armadillo, having received word from an information broker about another field boss that he could take on. Nathan looked around the sand town and sighed softly, although he was used to deserts it truly did pain him to come to this floor. The memories weighed heavily upon him and they were hard to cast off. After a momentary pause, he gathered himself and began walking down the streets of Armadillo. The hot sun beat down on his back and the dry air scratched his throat but he paid no mind to any of this. He had a quest to accomplish. He knew the basics of where to go for the quest. He had to go deep into the desert and while he was walking through the sand dunes something would come swimming at him from beneath the sand. Nathan knew no stats on the field boss itself, just where it was. He doubted that would be a problem, it had not been too much of a problem before. He had always persevered, some way or another. Creius 0 Posted June 7, 2016 Author #2 Share Posted June 7, 2016 Nathan walked down the streets of Armadillo and eventually left it and its sand domes behind, heading into the blazing heat of the desolate desert. There was nothing out there but death and barren fields, no place for the living. Yet things survived there, and that amazed him. He looked across the rolling sands and marveled at how there was an entire ecosystem that survived in an area that received little to no water on a yearly basis. The desert yielded hardy beings as would be expected of an ecosystem where every drop of water could result in a fight to the death... It was strange to think that he was born of the desert and that these same hardy features may be present in him. It would explain why he was so persist all the time no matter what the task was. The hardy and resilient nature that kept him going, no matter what. He had yet to be truly broken, maybe put out of action for a bit, but never broken. That was one thing he could thank the desert for, no matter how much he despised its existence for what had happened to him there.

Silently he counted down in his head, measuring the time until he would have to jump out of the way. "3" Bloodletter began to glow its blood red glow. "2" The shark's beady eyes could now be seen easily and they were boring intently into Nathan's eyes. "1" Nathan jumped to the side in an attempt to dodge. A lot happened in the next few milliseconds. First, Nathan successfully dodged the land shark's initial charge and the shark began to sail by. Secondly, Nathan released Accel Stub and his rapier darted forward thrice and struck thrice into the shark, making the first true attack of the combat. Finally, the Shark was sent out of the sand, going airborne for a few moments, before it burrowed back into the ground into safety. Edited June 7, 2016 by Creius

He stood there on the sand, contemplating what to do since his enemy was not in sight. That was, until the earth right beneath him began to shook. Then he had a pretty clear idea what he should probably do. He ran to the side and the sand beneath him erupted as the land shark shot out of the earth. The shark's abrasive side hit Nathan as he ran, though Nathan's abrasive pants rubbed back so both parties took a bit of damage. Looking up at his health bar Nathan realized that this field boss hit a bit harder than previous ones, it took more than five damage. He smiled as the sense of a challenge reached his mind, it was time to test his skills. Edited June 7, 2016 by Creius

As Nathan approached the land shark it was burrowing its way back into the ground already and Bloodletter ended up only biting into the sand where the shark had once been. The earth moved beneath him once more, indicating that the shark would be coming in for another attack soon. Quickly, Nathan's eyes flitted to his health bar and he noticed his battle healing was working over time to try and pump his health back to max. Best give it time to work and dodge this coming attack. Nathan closed his eyes and tried to feel the vibrations of the land shark as it moved beneath him. The power behind them, though, was far too strong. He could sense the shark approaching but once it reached a certain point Nathan was unable to tell exactly how far it was because the earth was shaking too much. Nathan took a guess and guessed too late. He jumped to the side just as the shark erupted from the sands and its abrasive side rubbed along his chest, leaving a large red, pixelated area where the beast had been. Nathan winced as he hit the ground but quickly picked himself up, hoping to hit the beast before it retreated again. Edited June 7, 2016 by Creius

Nathan thrust the blade forward and struck the shark four times quickly, in its fins and tail as well as the chest in an attempt to stun it before it could dive into the sands again. The shark was sent flying by the force of the blow and was incapable of diving back into the sands as it landed because the stun effect held true. Nathan began walking towards the motionless shark. The stun effect was quickly wearing off. The part that he had not guessed correctly was the size of the land shark's fury. As soon as the stun effect began to wear the shark began to thrash about with a lot of might and that was incomparable to the force once the stun effect no longer restrained the beast. The land shark flipped itself and burrowed into the ground and before Nathan could react the beast jumped out of the sand, mouth wide open, and chomped down on his arm. Nathan's eyes opened wider as he felt his world suddenly get dizzyingly fast and then everything was dark. There was a good two or three seconds where Nathan was just being buffeted by the sands as the shark dragged him underground. Finally the shark erupted out of the earth and released its hold on Nathan, sending him crashing into the ground as it burrowed down again and came back for another attack. Nathan came upon Bloodletter laying in the sand and took it into his hand. Instantly he turned around and swung out with the blade, catching the shark on the snout and diverting the mass away from him and into a sand area where he was not standing. Creius 0 Posted June 7, 2016 Author #14 Share Posted June 7, 2016 (edited) Nathan looked around the vast desert in curiosity. He knew there was bound to be something out there he could take back with him. He just had to look really hard and keep a close eye to the ground. If he did that he was bound to find something that he could pick up during his walk back to Armadillo. With this thought flying through his head he began walking slowly, keeping his focus on the ground and looking for materials which he could take back to the first floor with him to use in his shop. For the first leg of his journey, though, he found nothing. It was a bit of a disappointment but not a terrible one. He was searching a desert for life after all. Creius 0 Posted June 7, 2016 Author #15 Share Posted June 7, 2016 (edited) Nathan kept at the slow pace, intent on finding something that could make a strong armour of some sort that would not encumber its user. As he walked slowly through the desert he looked from side to side and something caught his eye on one of the passes. Looking closely he saw a harvestable material so he walked over to it and leaned down, plucking it from the earth and added it to his inventory. There was no point in stopping there though, he was in need of materials so he might as well keep searching. With a sigh he picked himself up and continued on his way towards Armadillo at a slow pace. ID#60939 LD:15 +1 Material Edited June 7, 2016 by Creius
Creius 0 Posted June 7, 2016 Author #16 Share Posted June 7, 2016 (edited) Nathan's careful eyes kept scanning the never ending sand for anymore signs of materials. Over the next few minutes his eyes only seemed to be seeing sand no matter where he looked. Nathan cried out in frustration at the fact and rubbed his eyes, trying to make them see better so that the materials would be visible. He knew that was not the issue though, it was probably only the sun getting to him to make him think that way. No, the real issue was that this was a desert and deserts held nothing but salt and gold and diamonds, which generally were deep underground and did not really have much value to him as a tailor. Creius 0 Posted June 7, 2016 Author #17 Share Posted June 7, 2016 (edited) Another few minutes went by with nothing but sand going before his eyes. He hated how dead it was out in the desert, there was nothing for anyone. Only death, despair, with a bit more death sprinkled on top. He sighed softly and wiped his brow. Getting frustrated with the desert really would not help him find anymore materials, even if it made him feel a lot better. It was just so easy to get frustrated with the one thing that caused you a lot of misery for a lot of years. With a shake of his head Nathan cleared his mind and pressed onwards, no point getting stuck in the past either. ID#60941 LD:7 Edited June 8, 2016 by Creius
Creius 0 Posted June 8, 2016 Author #18 Share Posted June 8, 2016 (edited) Nathan had been walking for quite a while by this point and still he had seen nothing besides that one material near the start of his return. It was a bit frustrating but he did not let the frustration grow too much. He could begin to let his mind slip, lest the sun make it slip all the way. That sun was the true enemy here and Nathan realized it but it was so hard to fight something that was so distant. The sun was merciless and eventually the frustration got to Nathan, no matter how hard he tried and it clouded his vision for a good part of the walk. Creius 0 Posted June 8, 2016 Author #19 Share Posted June 8, 2016 (edited) Nathan's vision remained clouded by frustration, prohibiting him from truly scanning the roadside for the materials that he desired. Instead he easily could have missed dozens of materials and just not noticed just because the sun had gotten a little too hot. Nathan did not notice he was not actually searching until he looked up one time and realized that he was coming upon Armadillo. Nathan wiped his brow and looked at the village in amazement, not having any clue where the town had sprung up from. With a shrug Nathan walked to the town's entrance and began heading to the teleportation plaza so he could go home. ID#60943 LD:4 Edited June 8, 2016 by Creius
Creius 0 Posted June 8, 2016 Author #20 Share Posted June 8, 2016 Nathan walked down the streets of Armadillo and towards the teleportation plaza without hesitation. He had no further business on the floor at the moment and would prefer to be somewhere just a bit more comfortable to him. Once he reached the teleportation plaza he approached the crystal and looked up at the bright sun. It was too much like back at his old home, the oppressive sun and the never ending sands. The images hit too close to home for his liking. He would not mind avoiding this floor if at all possible in the future, though he doubted it because he was sure there were more quests and things which he had to do on the floor. With a sigh Nathan called out for the first floor and disappeared as he returned home, content with the quest he had accomplished that day.
