Victor 0 Posted June 24, 2016 #1 Share Posted June 24, 2016 (edited) In a swell and full swing of ambitiousness, Luke had concocted a new plan, to increase the efficiency with which he leveled up. The boy had already predicted he would probably require a certain bit of well planned badgering, in order to execute it. What the plan entailed, was to try and stumble upon Frontliners and give them some poppycock story of how he'd been too scared to fight, but now he has reformed and become braver, that now he wants to do everything he can to help clear the game. Then ask them about details as to how exactly he should progress in the game. Letting them sit on the pedestal of trusted advisors. Victor had assumed that with enough badgering, the nicer ones would probably agree to carry him through some quests... It had worked, to a certain degree. He now waited in the icy snow on the fourth floor, at a certain designated spot, for his new acquaintance to show up. While he waited, he scoured for materials as usual and just as usual, he didn't find anything. Spoiler # 62140 LD: 14 No loot found. Edited July 25, 2016 by Victor
Takao 0 Posted June 24, 2016 #2 Share Posted June 24, 2016 It was just his luck that he found himself on the fourth floor, merely a few days after he'd given away his warmer armour. He liked to avoid the fourth as often as he could, but there were plenty of occasions that brought him back. A player had come along and fed him some spiel about how he'd like to progress with his newfound bravery. Takao liked to boast a bit of talent in reading people, and while he wouldn't find it in him to turn away a player that was asking for help, it certainly didn't hurt to exercise a bit of caution. Whether or not he believed the story was largely irrelevant to his agreement to help, the main issue was whether or not he'd find a knife in his back. That seemed unlikely and implausible, so there he was, trudging through the fluffy snow that plagued the fourth floor. " 'ey. " Takao called out simply, raising his off-hand in lazy greeting. "Y'ready t'do this?"
Victor 0 Posted June 25, 2016 Author #3 Share Posted June 25, 2016 (edited) His first target had been Takao, the man who was famous for being a soloist. Vic had his doubts that someone actually wanted to be all alone all the time. The high leveled boy was surprisingly easy to find too. Like most frontliners, he paid regular visit to maintain shop, which was luckily on the safely accessible floor three. For once Victor had let the boundary of what defined 'appropriate' stretch to where a point where it was socially, rather questionable. He had stalked Takao, from a safe distance and finally one day found an opportunity to go up to him and execute his plan. One could say it had worked, though Vic wasn't sure if he had been entirely convincingly. The boy hunted for some special thing he could use as a Merchant, he found nothing though and grew a little anxious, but concealed it with his impassiveness. After waiting a bit more, he was nearly about to give up when Takao didn't show up soon enough. Maybe the man had agreed only to get Vic off of his back and didn't intend on actually helping out. If that had been the case, Victor would have to find some way of exacting revenge... But he saw the man in the distance. His smile widened and he responded to Takao's greeting in kind. "Thanks again for helping out with this, I'm as ready as I can be at the moment." Vic said with a small smile. Spoiler # 62198: LD 10 No mat found. Takao 0 Posted June 26, 2016 #4 Share Posted June 26, 2016 The cold brought with it the intense urge to shiver and shudder, which Takao managed to suppress by some miracle. His jacket was on the thicker side for light armour as a result of its preference for mitigation over evasion, yet it provided little in the way of protection from the elements. Even with the survival skill, the weather was still absolutely miserable. He kept his displeasure and his opinions to himself, opting to maintain his now-typical tired and disinterested gaze instead. "Yeah, no problem." Takao responded, gesturing subtly with his head in the direction that they'd be going before he started off. "Let's get goin' before somebody kills it before us. Don't wanna have to wait an hour or two for the thing to respawn." He said in monotone. The instant that he left the safety of Snowfrost and the sole of his boot crunched the snow of the wilderness, he had drawn the sword from his back and held it at his side. Nervous, cautious, distrusting; there was a hundred different words and ways one could find to describe his demeanor, and in typical fashion, he paid no mind to the possibilities. The important thing was that he would make sure he was ready, regardless of what was thrown at them... at him.
Victor 0 Posted June 26, 2016 Author #5 Share Posted June 26, 2016 (edited) This mere acquaintanceship was unlikely to change to a friendship, at least the given state of the two boys. It could be argued that a certain coldness stood in their way. Perhaps it was simply because of the below freezing temperatures Takao and Victor found themselves in. The low leveled player didn't overestimate or underestimate the reactions and vibes that he got from people around him, so he could tell that Takao's demeanor wasn't hostile, but it certainly wasn't warm and friendly. There was a thick air of mistrust around them. Luke wasn't beyond manipulating people for gaining allies but he wasn't the kind to grovel for friendship, he maintained a polite expression, but quit being ingratiating, instead resolved to being more casual. "Aye, waiting would be a waste of time." The boy said simply. Though Takao had agreed to help, Vic noticed a each man for himself attitude as they set off towards the Quest location. "Lead the way." He added, ensuring that while following he remained mostly next to Takao rather than lagging behind, since neither felt completely safe with the other. His toe stubbed into a rock like projection, he bend down to inspect it and realized it was some curious looking object frozen solid inside an ice-cube. He added it to his inventory and kept walking. Takao 0 Posted July 3, 2016 #6 Share Posted July 3, 2016 Takao flexed his grip and squeezed the handle of his one-handed sword. It had weight, a product of the copious damage enhancements that were stacked into the metal, but it was still light and manageable. There were limitations to the weapon as per its associated skill however, and given the task at hand, it was beginning to shape up to be inadequate without the proper preparation. He found that the quest was much too simple to justify chewing through his consumables, and in a rather literal sense as well, so instead he re-sheathed the sword and swiped his hand vertically. Soft chimes played and a line of circular icons appeared alongside a window. He sorted through the menu with practiced ease, eventually coming upon his inventory which he promptly scrolled through. Sleepless nights were spent meticulously organizing the contents for easy access, which meant that the unequipping of his Inundator and the equipping of Ragnarok had barely taken in a handful of seconds. The one-handed sword and its scabbard disappeared in a blue light, replaced by a second light of similar description. In the place of the Inundator, an equally simple scabbard appeared with the accompanying sword housed within. The brunet continued forward, green eyes set upon the wintery landscape that enclosed them on all sides. The pine forest made for a scenic stroll, or rather would have made for a scenic stroll, if Takao hadn't been in such poor opinion of the snowy portion of Aincrad. "In order t'get Avalanche to come out, we'll have to farm some of his elementals for a bit." Takao said, casting a brief glance over his shoulder to Victor as he stopped to pick up something from the ground. A nondescript crafting material, Takao imagined. Nothing interesting enough to spark up his curiousity. He turned forward and reached back, grasping the handle of Ragnarok at the first sight of monsters in the distance. Victor 0 Posted July 3, 2016 Author #7 Share Posted July 3, 2016 (edited) Victor had seen another item that looked like a sharpening stone and he picked it up. Victor examined its rough edges and sure enough he could see that it would aid in sharpening weapons. The item was added to his inventory, while Takao talked about ice elements and switched out his weapons. The boy stretched, assuming that the other boy would manage everything. Just in case, the area's mobs scaled with the Takao's health, there was no way Victor could do any worthwhile damage to them. When the other stopped speaking a little abruptly, Vic stood up straight and remained ready assuming there was some danger around... Sure enough, his eyes raced the snowy surroundings till they pinned down the ice elements that Takao had spotted. Vic crept away from the mobs that his companion had sighted without attracting their attention. Once close enough to the boy, he murmured "So I doubt you'd need my help would you?" He said in a manner of praising the other boy's achievement. "I'd be happy to help if you need... But I'm pretty sure I'd be unnecessarily putting myself in danger, I doubt you'd be happy seeing someone die in your presence." Victor continued, stating his opinion frankly, in hopes that his frankness would win Takao's trust at least a little. Takao 0 Posted July 25, 2016 #8 Share Posted July 25, 2016 Takao watched Victor for a moment after he spoke, his steady gaze unwavering until the chittering and grinding sounds of ice demanded his attention. His lungs deflated with a short breath and jade eyes set upon the sentient amalgamations of ice and frost, his arm flexing and extending to draw the two handed blade from his back. The rasp of steel sliding against metal and leather filled the wintry forest air, and the barely audible crunching of snow played beneath Takao's feet as he lifted the blade. He clenched his jaw and grit his teeth as he assumed the proper stance for the usage of the weapon's highest available sword art, and allowed for Cardinal to carry him through the six-strike gambol of swings and strikes. He divvied them up between the four monsters and cut through each with enough force to eliminate them in one fell swoop, leaving behind only a field of colourful fragments behind. "...Already have." He muttered in a low tone, the only indication that he spoke was the plume of white smoke as his breath hit the cold air. He slowly straightened his back and stared forward, eyes awaiting the next set of monsters to appear. Victor 0 Posted July 25, 2016 Author #9 Share Posted July 25, 2016 (edited) Victor watched the jade eyed boy decimate the monsters with ease. Witnessing that gave birth to something green within him. The boy struggled to embrace the achievements of others. Just to be safe, Lucian had spent time to consider all the unknown variables in the game, before stepping into the arena. The time he took to complete that task was enough for several others to gain a leg-up. While he felt safer it was at the cost of being a well known frontliner. By the boy's assessment, that could change soon if he took some measured steps. He would probably never be the absolute best, but he could climb high enough to be among the elite members some day. The game progression had been a lot slower than some of the avid gamer base had expected. If the boy remained focus, things would fall into place. Victor stretched "This is almost too easy for you, isn't it?" He asked his companion nonchalantly. While he wanted to convey praise, he also didn't want to look like he was boot-licking. "Gotta sit and chat with you about the game mechanics you employ, I think it could come in handy..." He said, in attempt to set up a foundation for some sort of a stronger acquaintanceship. "If you've got the time, of course." He said, tipping his head slightly in reluctant admiration. Spoiler ID# 64674 LD: 14 No mat found. Takao 0 Posted July 25, 2016 #10 Share Posted July 25, 2016 "Bein' smart about what you choose to fight makes it look easy." Takao said in response, words leaving his mouth in concise monotone. He'd listened to far too many players brag and boast at length about their accomplishments, as if their successes hadn't been granted by anything more than what the systems employed by a higher power allowed. The players, or perhaps prisoners of Sword Art Online were comparable to flies caught in a trap, and he found some entertainment in listening to how some felt superior to others. He had long since fallen out of the politics of the game, strayed away from guilds and even kept his socializing with other players to a minimum. He did what was expected of him; fought the monsters, did the quests, scouted the floors, and participated in the raids he was expected to. His grip on the sword flexed as another group of monsters spawned. "...We'll see. I'm pretty busy." He responded without looking away from the monsters. Half a true, half a lie. He had plenty of time to spare for talking, but little interest in doing so. Takao didn't care much for keeping his methods a secret, excluding a few select individuals, but he also didn't care much to speak at length about them if he could help it. He repeated his earlier success with the monsters after promptly engaging them, cleaving through the next four monsters of ice with relative ease. Victor 0 Posted July 25, 2016 Author #11 Share Posted July 25, 2016 (edited) The jade eyed boy was jaded. Had Vic been the sensitive kinds, it would have pained him to see this kind of lifelessness mar his accomplice's face. There was a slight down-turn to the edges of Takao's lips. While no code in SAO allowed the boy to look battle-worn as he truly was, the expression in his eyes betrayed his boredom with the repetitive processes he engaged in. "Well, I guess you're right. I've noticed there is no true skill required here... Unfortunately. Its all finally a game of numbers and a little bit of luck." Victor said shrugging. The thing that was worth admiring, was not the fighting skill the guy displayed, simply because there was very little of that, but it was the sheer discipline with which the frontliner had repeated these battles and quests, to fire up his in-game statistics. But clearly, it had been at the cost of something, some sort of happiness. "My real life reflexes have helped me a little, occasionally..." Victor said "To evade these monsters, but even that can be statistically altered with lucky charms or something..." the boy added, rolling his eyes. If Takao wasn't going to have the time to engage in conversation later. Vic would just have to make-do with as much he could squeeze out of the boy now. Spoiler D# 64684 LD: 13 No mat found. Takao 0 Posted July 25, 2016 #12 Share Posted July 25, 2016 The systematic slaughter of sentient ice monsters had proven to be enough to trigger the spawn of the quest boss. It was the monotony typical of the genre; travel to this location, kill this many monsters, and fight the boss at the end. Few really knew the fatigue of that grind like the players of Sword Art Online, especially those that actively sought it out. Green eyes set upon the boss monster in question, an opponent Takao had faced and bested several times in the past. It was a battle of little risk and simultaneously little reward to himself, yet a battle he engaged in nonetheless. He stepped down hard on his right foot and shifted his stance, hands placed correctly on the blade which was raised and poised in just the right way for the system to recognize the stance as a pre-motion of a sword art. The result of his practiced positioning caused the steel to shine a bright colour and emit a low hum, and left behind a blur of white as Cardinal guided his avatar through the motions of the seven strike sword art. Before the monster could even react to his advanced, Takao had cleaved the monster in twain with a single strike, leaving it to erupt into the familiar fragments signifying the complete loss of health points. After inhaling a short breath through his nose, Takao sheathed the sword onto his back and turned, beginning to walk back in the direction of Snowfrost. He stopped before passing Victor and turned his gaze onto him. "So, eh. That's that, I guess. Since that didn't take as long as I thought, I'm headed up to the fifth floor t'try 'n find a dungeon. Victor 0 Posted July 25, 2016 Author #13 Share Posted July 25, 2016 (edited) The ice monster, that was larger than its small army of elemental, loomed over the two boys, casting a light shadow over them, since there wasn't much light it could block, the floor was a dimly lit one. He took a few steps back as Takao geared himself, preparing to strike. From what he had witnessed, he could predict that the battle on such a floor would be a short one. He had little idea of the precise numbers, but Lucian could calculate with vague percentages. Yet, when all it took was one swipe from the green-eyed boys weapon, for the monster to relinquish its hold on his virtual life, Victor was slightly surprised. The large ice monster, with mismatched blocks for limbs couldn't even endure one hit. Victor grinned, this game, could be virtually risk-less if he stuck to his careful path and worked with the numbers. The boy would have to raise his standards in order to reach such heights. He made a mental note to recalculate things and readjust his equipment in order to ensure maximum damage at later stages, with minimum risk. Takao offered to let him join on a higher floor. While Victor had his reservations about the increased risk, this could prove fruitful for understanding the game better. "Sure... Why not?" Victor said simply. This guy didn't look like he could be fooled with charm and buttering, so Victor kept any unnecessary dialogue to the minimum. Takao 0 Posted August 4, 2016 #14 Share Posted August 4, 2016 Takao gave a wordless nod and continued on his way back to Snowfrost. He endured the return trip in silence, not having anything to say and rather uninterested in sparking up a casual conversation. The brunet was rather good at spotting when he was being used; some people were better at hiding it than others, but subtitles in the way they spoke and moved their body usually betrayed the words they spoke. Kissing ass was perhaps the easiest tell to spot, and he'd figured that Victor had done his fair share. This particular occasion didn't especially bother Takao, he was profiting from it enough that it wasn't an issue, but he was aware nonetheless. The journey to the fifth floor was quick and the destination was loathsome. Chilling cold was replaced with blistering dry heat, earning a low and guttural grumble from within Takao's throat. Staying quiet otherwise, he made his way through the streets of Armadillo and delved into the sandy wilderness, scaling dunes and traversing salt flats until the location of the supposed dungeon closed in. He activated his reveal and detect skills simultaneously, spotting the partially submerged dungeon entrance and gesturing to it with a hand. "S'there. Stay behind me 'n I'll take care of the stuff inside." He said simply, taking advantage of the opportunity to swap out his weapons. - - Energy Drink consumed. Ragnarok unequipped.Inundator equipped. Victor 0 Posted August 5, 2016 Author #15 Share Posted August 5, 2016 (edited) The boy followed the higher levelled teen quietly. Victor could tell Takao had seen this act too many times to be fooled by it. In retrospect, it was perhaps too simple a plan to gain this high levelled players trust. Victor could see the most dull minds with this trick up their sleeves. While he could safely say that none of the words he spoke were lies, he didn't need to bring all these things to Takao's notice, especially with the added request of helping him. Victor could almost see Takao's daily routine being filled with low-levels like him badgering him for help, while perhaps he was too nice to say no, he definitely didn't enjoy the routine anymore. Victor scolded himself mentally, for his lack of foresight when it came to this player. Though the job got done, the possibility of a repeat looked bleak. His dark eyes were set on Takao's back as the gears in his brain whirred. Was there still a chance to salvage the situation? He wondered. As they left the Quest area, he was presented with the usual quest completion notification. They moved towards the teleportation gate, and within a matter of seconds were engulfed by the sweltering heat on the first floor. Victor considered the possibility of just levelling with Takao, without going back on his word. He kicked up sand in a meagre attempt to salvage something worth using in his workshop. The boy had no luck, but hoped that near their destination he'd be able to at least find some sand paper to better wooden shields and things. Soon they arrived, and he nodded at Takao's instruction. "Should be good to see how this works..." he said, simply. Still constructing the right way to bring to Takao's notice that Victor understood his plight. Takao 0 Posted August 5, 2016 #16 Share Posted August 5, 2016 He'd seen this particular type of dungeon so many times before that he had started to shrug off the notion that they were meant to be randomly generated. He could recall the exact sequence of the hieroglyphic-esque artwork that lined the walls endlessly, a feat he wasn't quite sure whether to attribute to having seen them hundreds of times before or simply being some ability to memorize patterns. Torch sconces lit their advance as they approached, bursting into flame to show the way forward. Before long, the expected monsters began to show up. Takao had seen them through the darkness using his Detect skill, although they were little more than floating pale-pink cursors until the torches illuminated them. The insect-like monsters had only just began to scurry closer when Takao brought Inundator from its scabbard and positioned it over his shoulder. Cardinal took the reins and in the wake of the sword art, all four monsters were vanquished and reduced to colourful, fluttering fragments. He shrugged off the post-motion rigidness and continued forward without a word, the rapid change from cold to warm bringing an uncomfortable throb to his head. Victor 0 Posted August 5, 2016 Author #17 Share Posted August 5, 2016 (edited) Takao's boredom with the events was palpable. Victor too felt a sense of lethargy take him over, he flopped behind Takao, sticking to the wall. He attempted to read the glyphs that were engraved onto the walls that made the tunnel. They looked like ancients runes, but nothing that he could decipher. There were some carvings of fishes and waves, some that looked like stick figures of birds. The boy ran a finger over them, his curious mind attempting to decode the walls in vain. Though he read nothing, the wall glowed and small piece of it broke away, to reveal another interesting looking stone in a little hole. He collected the stone and shifted his gaze towards his acquaintance. He noticed Takao had trundled on ahead, from the glow of his weapon, it was evident that he had just engaged the first set of monsters that the dungeon had unleashed on the duo. He tiptoed closer, but not close enough for the monsters to notice his presence. By now, it was no surprise for Victor to see him clearing the mobs with great speed. Once the mobs were decimated, Vic walked closer to Takao, combat definitely did not arouse any interest in him. Finally, tired of the monotony Victor decided to break the growing silence. "I bet you do this very often, why don't you just say no to those who come asking for help?" Vic asked simply. Takao 0 Posted August 5, 2016 #18 Share Posted August 5, 2016 Little downtime was given between the small waves of monsters, which meant that Takao was engaging another group before long. The low hum and bright glow of his weapon were clear indication of such, followed by the bursting noise and subsequent wave of colourful fragments as the monsters he struck shattered into pieces. It was a familiar monotony, the silence only being broken by the sounds of his boots padding against the stone floor or by the hum of his sword. That familiar silence that he had grown accustomed to was broken by a voice, which garnered Takao's attention following the defeat of the monsters. He turned his head and glanced sidelong over his shoulder. A small shrug rolled over his shoulders and he continued walking forward, taking a few short seconds to mull over the question. "Why would I?" He asked, answering his question with another. "If somebody wants t'do stuff like this, they'll end up doin' it. Better they do it with somebody that knows what they're doin' instead of gettin' themselves killed." He continued his response, the words spoken in dry monotone. It seemed truthful enough to himself, he did enjoy helping people-- or he had at one point. Too many thoughts were finding themselves thrown into question nowadays, and he found it helped to ignore them. Victor 0 Posted August 6, 2016 Author #19 Share Posted August 6, 2016 (edited) The appearance of the tunnel as Takao tore through the monsters, would be akin to a dance club. Clubs and discos were something Victor was no stranger to. The brown haired boy had rarely ever engaged in the act of dancing though, he was dragged there by friends and other girls. Apart from ballroom, which his mother had forced him to learn in his early teens, Vic didn't really know how to dance. Had the events that were unfolding near him, not been life threatening, he would have probably allowed himself to participate in a different kind of fluid motion. His glowing weapon adding another dimension to the bright colors. The two brown haired boys could have probably taken on more monsters that way as well. But alas, this was a game of life and death and till Victor wasn't prepared he would do nothing. "Well, honestly... People shouldn't engage in such things callously, especially not in Kayaba's fantasy world... I wouldn't unless I had someone like you helping, or unless I was sure I had crunched enough numbers to be someone like you." He replied simply. The boy then turned towards the wall, swiftly repeating the motion that he'd performed earlier to see if it would reward him with something again... It did. He collected it and waited for Takao to make his next move. Spoiler # 65612 results: LD : 16 Mat found Total Mats: 4 Edited August 6, 2016 by Victor
Takao 0 Posted August 7, 2016 #20 Share Posted August 7, 2016 "Yeah. They shouldn't." Takao replied simply, his voice retaining its monotone. He'd heard the risks that players had taken, seen them taken firsthand, and even taken those same risks himself. Part of his supposed designation as a scout was being on the forefront of floor discovery, which meant that delving into the throes of dangerous adventure was an occupational hazard for him by now. Even before he'd found himself in that position, he was still taking risks without a very good reason. "But they will." He added, his gaze turned forward again as the chittering of yet more monsters caught his attention. He preformed the same process as before; the Inundator was poised over his shoulder, shone bright red and hummed lowly, then subsequently obliterated the monsters standing in their way. He continued walking forward through the wave of shimmering fragments without missing a step, jade eyes staring into the darkness ahead of them. "'n I get experience for doing this too. S'not like it's a waste of my time."
