[Sp-F1] Tactics and MATs <Itzal> [Quest: Feeding the Enemy]

Recommended Posts

Itzal pushed the wolf off once more, but this time he prepared his sword art immediately, his black blade glowing dark red.  He jabbed his sword thrice into the wolf, dealing some damage.  The wolf fell onto it's back but got to it's feet again, charging at Itzal.  He was prepared however, and rolled to his left, avoiding the mob.

Itzal saw the wolf make a charge and he swung his blade, dealing minimal damage.  What he didn't expect, was the wolf ignoring the pain and biting into Itzal's shoulder, closer to his neck than he would have preferred.  He fell onto the ground, his sword knocked from his hand.  He put his hands on the wolf's jaws and opened it up with struggle.  When he opened it enough, he shoved the head off and kicked the mob off of him, rolled to the side, and picked up his sword.

Itzal took a moment to grab his shoulder.  The pain was intense and he would make the wolf pay for that.

"Come on!" he roared.  The wolf charged forward and leapt at Itzal.  He was beginning to find a pattern in how these mobs fought and swung his sword as he side-stepped out of the way, striking it in mid jump.  The wolf landed on the ground and turn on him again but he used his sword to parry it's claws and his foot when hit leapt.

Itzal missed a parry and the wolf bit into his forearm, it's claws sinking deep into him.  Itzal cried in pain and thrust his sword into the wolf, but it didn't release.  He left his sword in the wolf and grabbed it with two hands, repeating the process and kicking it in the face, knocking it to the ground.  The wolf let out a yelp and Itzal yanked his sword out of the wolf.

Itzal didn't hesitate to strike the wolf again, hearing a yelp from the mob as it struggled to get back up.  It gnashed it's teeth at him but he jumped back in time.  The wolf jumped at him and the parrying re commenced.  This couldn't go on forever.  It was almost dead and Itzal had to preform a finishing move soon.

Itzal made a jab at the wolf, hoping to catch it off guard and finish the fight, no matter what happened to him.  The attack however didn't hit it's mark, and his recklessness cost him.  The wolf barely dodged the blade and jumped at him, clawing at his chest.  Itzal stumbled backwards from the attack, once again using the sword to parry and block the wolf's ongoing attacks.  He had to end this, and quickly.  He never actually meant to fight another mob today and this wolf was getting on his nerves.

The wolf made another attempt to hit Itzal but what it didn't see was the glowing hue covering his blade.  After the wolf had made the jump Itzal threw his blade at the mob, stabbing it repeatedly before hearing it's death cry.  As it fell however it's claw still struck home on Itzal's arm, causing him to wince.  As the mob lay dead on the floor, Itzal leaned against a tree as he saw his health bar slowly reach out from the low area.  He heard his menu ding and saw that he received another 50 col.  He smiled.  He may not have intended for this to happen but at least it did.  He collected the goodies and noticed something.  He waited for his vision to clear and saw that it was an npc.  The npc seemed to appear like a gypsy.  What could she possibly want?

Itzal sheathed Retributor, and satisfied that his health was a little above halfway, made his way over to the npc.  The gypsy was elderly and wore simple, well, gypsy clothes.  Honestly there wasn't anything odd about her.  That was the problem with npcs, Itzal thought.  They were all the same, never unique.  The gypsy smiled to him as they drew closer.

"Can I help you mam?" he asked.  Maybe she had a potential quest he could do.  The gypsy pointed to where he fought the wolf.

"I couldn't help but notice you had a little issue with that wolf over there," she said.  Itzal nodded.  He felt no shame in admitting his struggle to an npc.

"Yeah, but I beat it in the end and got something out of it.  That's what counts right?"  She grinned.

"Maybe so, but you could always use an extra hand right?"  Itzal was getting suspicious.  Was this really the start of a quest?

"I have a party," he argued.  She shook her head, still smiling.

"Ah, but what of when you aren't with them such as now?"  He sighed with frustration.

"Where are you getting at woman?"  She chuckled at his response.

"Why, don't you want a familiar?"

Itzal stood there with his mouth opened.  A familiar?!  He heard about those but he had never actually seen one.  A familiar was an animal that accompanied the player who tamed them.  If a player was lucky, the familiar would have a buff.  Better accuracy, better looting skills, sometimes even able to heal the player a little bit.  A familiar was definitely useful.  And he had just unexpectedly run into the quest.  Just as he thought this, a message popped up:

>-Accept quest?-<

Itzal hastily selected accept and the woman resumed her talking.

"Familiar's are hard to find, but are very useful," she said.  Itzal's hands moved in an impatient manner, his foot tapping quickly.  Now that he knew he could get a familiar, he wanted to get the briefing over with.  "What you need to do is feed it a common food item-"  After that he groaned.  Then it struck him.  He had some of his beginner bread on him left.  He pulled one out and asked the gypsy if it would work.  She smiled and nodded.

"That's all you need to know.  Just be careful young one.  It's possible they can attack you."  And with that the npc walked away.

Itzal looked at the bread in his hands.  A familiar!  He had a chance to find himself a familiar!  He could feel his body tingle with excitement.  He was about to scan the forest again for a suitable animal when he realized something.  He still hadn't tried on his armor.  He quickly pulled up his menu and selected Niger Natio, or black racer.  He felt the garb materialize around him.  He also felt the verbana bracelet pushed to the surface.  He found a pool of water and looked at his reflection.  He definitely looked like another person.  The armor made him look taller than he really was for one.  The other effects he thought were mystery and intimidation.  The only thing that stood out in a bad way was the bracelet.  The purple flower was the complete and total opposite of his armor.  He flatly refused to remove it however.  Then he had an idea.  He tucked the bracelet under his leather gauntlet, but tilted so if he looked at his arm a certain way he'd see the flowers.

He moved his limbs in every way until he was comfortable with the feel the armor gave him.  Now that he had his armor equipped, he decided it was time to find his familiar.

Itzal walked around the forest, keeping to the shadows of the trees as he scanned his surroundings.  He didn't see anything in the trees, nor on the ground.  He jumped and began scaling a tree, then proceeded to jump from tree to tree, keeping an eye out for anything.  When he couldn't find squat he stopped and perched on a branch.  What was he looking for?  He realized that he didn't want just any animal.  He had to find one that he liked.  Something that fit, that called out to him.  What sort of animal could that be?  Something fast definitely.  He thought about fast animals:  Snakes, foxes.  He chuckled as the thought of a monkey came across his mind, reminding him of the time Adhae called him a monkey before he went to pick up his sword and bracelet.  No, those animals were fast but didn't have the proper agility or strength he was looking for.

Itzal ran through around a hundred animals every minute, most of which he was simply eliminating from the dauntingly long list in his head.  Boar, cheetah, cat, rhino, bear.  Then he realized he forgot about birds.  He quickly began compiling a list and filtering through it.  Chicken wouldn't work.  Having had a few he knew they were smarter than most people were led to believe, but they were helpless in a fight.  There's a reason the phrase 'chicken with it's head cut off' existed after all.  Crows were intelligent but they also tended to be wherever death was imminent, and Itzal didn't want to be known as a death bringer.  Canary was a no go.  Vultures were out of the question.  Then he thought of a hawk, and although it was close it wasn't what he was looking for.  Then he realized a mistake he made.  He forgot about mystical creatures.

Of course!  How could he forget?  In the game magical creatures were a reality!  He tore through every known magical creature in the real world:  Pheonix, fairy, mermaid, unicorn, dragon, leviathan, basilisk...  He forgot the others but that was enough for him to ponder.  Basilisk was way too big.  He wouldn't be near water at all most of the time.  Pheonix was a magic based creature and probably didn't exist in the game.  At least he never heard of it yet.  Fairies included.  He didn't know if mermaids existed in game but he did not want a half girl as a pet...  WHATSOEVER.  He didn't think he'd be riding anything so unicorns were out of the question but.  A dragon.  A small dragon could be elusive and strong at the same time.  Itzal smiled.  Now that he knew what he was looking for he could determine where to search.  A forest was not a good place to look.  Luckily, he knew a nearby mountain with a cave.  It held one or two bears but they didn't bother anyone unless they were attacked first.

"Right," he said, and began making his way out of the forest.

As Itzal made his way into the cave entrance, he pulled down his hood and facecloth.  He also noticed that there weren't any bears nearby this time and wondered if they despawned or just moved deeper into the cave.  He went ahead and pulled out the beginner bread, hoping it would lure any nearby dragon.  He wondered what color it would be?  What size?  What would it's personality be?  What if it decided that it-  His thoughts were interrupted when he heard something scraping against the rocky walls.  Itzal stopped and turned slowly.  The dark purple head of a dragon poked it's head out from it's hiding spot.  As it emerged Itzal gasped.  In the shadows it appeared completely black unless you looked for it's red eyes.  When it was in the light it's scales seemed to change from dark purple to either slightly lighter or darker scales with the movement.  The shine was dazzling but at the same time not over the top.  It was about the size of his forearm.  Including the tail it was probably the size of his full arm.  Two horns emerged a little farther back from it's eyes with two small ones from it's jaw and tiny horns on it's head and between it's nostrils.  It cocked it's head at his bread.  He took a deep breath as he gestured it to the dragon.

The dragon's head rose a little, it's head still cocked.  Itzal lifted his left arm so as to give the dragon something to perch on.  The dragon appeared to be hesitant.  Itzal couldn't help but smile at it and that seemed to calm it a little.  It crawled a little more from it's hiding spot.  Now that it was more in the light, he marveled at it's beauty.  Not only that but instead of being thick and bulky, resembling strength, it was slim and more snakelike than most people described dragons.  His smile widened at that.  The dragon seemed to realize he was admiring it and made a grin of it's own.  It was so cute that he realized this dragon was perfect for him.  The dragon pushed off from the walls and glided over, landing on his armored arm.  It almost weighed nothing which astonished him.  It started a nibble at the bread, then proceeded to tear big chunks from it.  Itzal smiled as the -quest completed- message appeared.

"Hello Velnia," he said.  "Welcome to the family."  He couldn't wait until he showed his friends.
