[PP-KE-F2] Why I'm Here «Let There Be Light»

Teayre scowled as Calrex patted her on the head. “Did he really?” She thinks to herself.  Taking a step back she glares up at her husband. “Cal-“ She begins to growl in a warning tone when Macradon spoke. Her eyes flicked to the Knight and she sighed. “Does it matter?” The red head snapped, looking back at Lycan before huffing. “Guess we’d better get a move on.” Teayre begins to walk off ahead stopping. Then turning around.

Her hand rested on the hilt of the sheathed Muramasa as she began to pull the blade. “Calrex.” Teayre mutters before crouching slightly lower. “You really did what I think you did?” The girl’s entire body began to tense as she started to draw the Muramasa out of the its sheathe. “Sometimes. Just SOMETIMES!” Teayre’s voice got louder as she pushed off her back foot and made her way towards her husband. Her target.

No more than a breath's width passed before Teayre's flashed its steel through yet another mob. This time, a lycanthrope and likely leader of the pack burst into a haze of data. Her finesse and movement wasted no effort. Form flawless and practiced, Lycan could only watch in a silent admiration of her skill. Her efficiency, lack of emotion, and threatening tone at the mention of her hair caused the teen's arm to prickled involuntarily. Hairs stood on end, and the chill found home down the length of his spine.

The orange crystal didn't originate from the pulsing red gash on his hand. Lycan glanced to his health and saw it nearly a quarter depleted. All he did was touch her blade. If Teayre wanted to...

"I uh..." the teen stammered, his throat suddenly dry. "I-I'm sorry about the hair."

His amber eyes locked with the fire in Teayre's and Lycan felt his body course with adrenaline. His hands tensed and thoughts directed themselves to Harbinger's hilt on his back.

Thankfully, Calrex stepped forth and lovingly tousled Teayre's crimson locks. Her unfettered rage flared, but its target transferred toward the bluenette. All seemed to fizzle out as the crimson maiden stepped toward their destination, but things quickly turned for the worse. Hands on hilt, she unleashed her katana's length and charged Calrex with a blaze in her eyes.

"Sh*t..." Lycan swore, his hand now gripped tightly around Harbinger's hilt. The blade began to slip from his sheath before Lycan caught the flickering green of his health regenerate by a point. His knuckled turned white and teeth clenched. Harbinger fell back into its sheath and Lycan's hand fell to his side. He took several steps back, placing himself behind the majority and eyed the distance toward Urbus.

'Lover's quarrel?' he thought nervously. 'If not, I need to get the hell out of here.'

He looked to Baldur, Macradon, and back to the couple. A mortal among gods, Lycan felt his inferiority boil to the surface.

"Well, at least things are simmered down for now..."

It seemed that things were going to return back to calm levels, but right as that thought passed through his mind Calrex looked forward to see that Teayre had taken a few steps ahead, but then turned and charged, targeting him. He felt a bead of sweat form on the side of his head at the action, since it seemed like what provoked the redhead was the simple patting on her head, "Here I thought she enjoyed that for the longest time."

The bluenette already knew that most likely the people surrounding him might want to draw their weapons defensively, but that would only serve to exacerbate what was happening. Inside he gave a small sigh, taking a few steps forward before looking at Teayre, a calm and warm smile on his face, as if welcoming whatever was coming at him.

He took his hands out of his jacket pockets, resting them as his sides in an open posture.

Looking at what was going on, Macradon would take a few steps back, being slightly out of range for what could happen. Of course none of the present seemed to be in much danger for the most part. Sighing lightly as he would grab a hold of his sword strapped to his back, Macradon would not draw his sword yet as he saw no real hostility towards himself at any given point. He would just look at the events being present at the time and would keep a close eye at the ones before him. He would think of how much time they had to go through before they could actually do the job they accepted, helping Lycan get his job cleared. Scanning through the people on the fields in the vicinity, he didn't seem to find anything that would target them, other than Calrex being targeted by Teayre. Looking through it all, he would just keep his mouth shut as he didn't have anything to say.

Baldur's eyes widened when Teayre turned to place her ire upon Calrex. He wasn't sure what was going on between them, but he knew Calrex was the only one capable of handling the ginger's rage. Silently walking around, Baldur put a hand on Macradon and Lycan's shoulders and led them out of <<charge>> distance from the couple.

"Come along, we'll let mommy and daddy have their fun while we go hunt for a helpless NPC."

Baldur tried to make his words sound nonchalant and comforting, but the truth was he had a hard time trusting Teayre. She was too much of a wildcard for someone who was as steady and reliable as Baldur, but the gaijin Samurai also knew how hard Calrex was working to reconnect with her. He was not going to jeopardize that, and he wanted to keep the bystanders safe. If some space for Calrex and Teayre to hash stuff out would help, then that's what he'd do.

"Now then, if memory serves, those caves should be up ahead. Lycan, since you're the one with the quest, you're gonna have to be the one to listen for the cries of help."

Gram, Baldur's white wolf, hesitated before leaving Calrex and Teayre behind, almost as if the wolf hated to leave a member of the pack behind and in danger. Baldur just hoped that wasn't what he was doing.

Macradon nodded as he would follow on Baldur's lead. "Riiiiiiiiiight ..." he would respond as the trio would then commence the real quest they had been given, or Lycan had been given. Macradon would follow and and go towards the caves where the lost NPC and giant bats would be located. Baldur had already given Lycan a few instructions to make the quest easier for him, and Macradon had nothing else to add onto those words. Baldur seemed to be a good teacher, a teacher of a high caliber, at least he spoke and the way he instructed really did seem to have some merit to being a teacher. Macradon had not much to say through all this journey at the moment, but it didn't seem like he was needed with anything verbal, he could just be there and slay mobs if they were to appear, or even just poke one of the bats and kill it that way.

Her foot leaves the ground as she shot forward, her speed carrying her straight into her husband. The butt of the muramasa striking the hilt of Calrex’s Grand Blade. Looking up at her husband Teayre eyes him. The blade of the her weapon now completely covered. “Just making sure I could still do what I need to do.” Flashing him a mischievous smile, like the old one she used to give him, the red head flicks her hair over her shoulder as she walks forwards catching up with the rest of the group. The hackles of Baldur’s wolf caught Teayre’s eye. Gently she placed a hand on the beasts head and rubbed for a moment. “You are adorable.” As she stood up her eyes flicking to the side of the mountain. “Lycan. Just on your left.” Keeping her thumb pressed against the tsuba of her katana Teayre let out a short breath. When was she going to tell him?

Hearing the resounding clang as Teayre's katana hilt slammed into his own sword's handle, the bluenette looked down, still keeping the calm smile as he simply gave a nod, "Sure thing."

"Do what she needs to do...heh, so I guess she's still testing herself? In any case better just focus on the task at hand for now."

Returning his hands to his jacket pockets Calrex gave a slight jog to catch up before looking over in the direction his wife had directed Lycan's attention. It was definitely the same cave he had entered into a few times in the past, and to his knowledge it wasn't like caves can up and shift themselves in SAO. "Remember that the darkness in the cave will hinder our sight a bit, so make sure you all have some accuracy boosting items equipped. The bats inside will be pretty easy to handle, but there's always the chance something unexpected might happen."

"Like the times I've fought field bosses and suddenly a boosted version of them would spawn right after. Not the most pleasant thing to happen."

Resting his hand on the handle of the Grand Blade II he readied himself.

Thankfully, the conflict simmered into peace. A strange air between the blunette and his wife lingered with unknown intentions. The teen's brows pressed together in concern.

Baldur's calm, collected speech broke Lycan from his attempts to even understand what had transpired. He nodded to the samurai and with a hesitant gaze, turned toward the direction of their objective. Teayre commented on his left, and her voice alone sent a shiver down his spine. Something was clearly off about the woman. He felt as though her presence was a threat on his life and she could execute him with one stray breath. How Calrex was able to weather the redhead's storm perplexed the teen, but he hoped the bluenette capable enough to tame the beast inside his wife.

"Y-yeah, thanks," Lycan replied with an unintentional stutter. Teayre had shaken him to the core despite their previous exchange. His cockiness all but faded from his clammy and pale face.

Through his nerves, Lycan's ears picked up soft whimpers. As he ventured closer to the source, he made out a single panicked word.

"Mommy."

"This way," Lycan called out to the group, sprinting through the trees - part to save the girl and part to get distance between the crimson maiden that lurked in his shadow.

He weaved with finesse like the hunting days with his father. Finally, he arrived at a small opening which bore the entrance to a dark cavern. The cries and whimpers of a child echoed from deep within its shadowy confines.

"She's in there," the teen relayed. "I don't see any monsters yet but..."

He turned back, and his eyes deliberately drew to Teayre with a chill down his spine. He quickly flashed his eyes away from her, hands cold and damp with nerves.

"They could be hiding anywhere..."

'Like among us?!' he thought.

The teen shook off the idea with a clearing of his throat and turned toward the cave. He took a deep breath, and stepped inside, unaware of the black, beady eyes that watched from above in silence.

Baldur took off after Lycan when the teen shot into the bushes. For a moment, he had worried that the teen had paniced and was running off, which could be dangerous when you were low level and came unaware into a spawn of enemies, monsters both digital and real, but a second later, the teen's voice registered in his mind and he understand that Lycan had heard the cry for help from the NPC. With only a momentary pause, the white haired swordsman stepped into the cave to help the NPC girl, but there was something about him that seemed off to Baldur. Not that the wanna-be samurai could blame him - Teayre had that effect on people.

"I'm right behind you, don't worry." Baldur tried to say reassuringly as he caught up and entered the inky darkness alongside the youth. The cave would only get darker and darker until they would barely be able to see. It was a difficult trick, being able to lock onto a target you couldn't otherwise see, but it was something worth learning. Baldur didn't like going through quests and just doing them for the lower level players, they didn't learn anything that way. Baldur liked them to have a hand in completing their own quest, even if his presence skewed the safety factor quite a bit. He could end this quest whenever they wanted, but because of that, he let Lycan take the lead. He would end it if it were necessary, but until then he would follow the young man's lead so he could forge his own legacy.

  • 2 weeks later...

The sound of wings reached the red head’s ears her hand flicked to her belt, her fingers gently wrapping around her blade. A smirk reaching the corners of her lips. “I don’t remember the Bats being this close to the entrance.” She mumbles as she looks over her shoulder able to see the outline of the entrance. Her eyes glinted green for a moment, a clear sign of her night vision ability activating.  A loud screech could be heard as the first of the two bats dropped from the cavernous ceiling. It’s claws scraping right along Lycan’s back, narrowly avoiding damaging the boy as he dodged. Teayre glanced up to see another bat falling towards her, stepping to one side she flicks her eyes forwards. The muramasa moved in two half circles as the red head dispatched the two bats with ease. Looking at Lycan, Teayre nods at him as a young girl runs out towards the group. “That’s Elise I think. Come on then lets get everything sorted, and the toerag back to her mother.” Sheathing her blade Teayre turns around walking away from the cave.
