[PP-F4] Colder Than Ice <<Avalanche>> (Complete)

She breathed, her smile shifting from uncertainty to bliss.

His reaction wasn't what she expected. As drops of water seeped from Tobias' eyes, she did the favour of sparing him further embarrassment, turning away and keeping her eyes firmly on the road ahead. Too many things bull rushed through her head to speak coherently anyway; she'd asked him out on a date.

A date.

I asked him.

The gravity of the situation started to settle in. Her heart began beating faster and harder, and had it not been for the man's words posing as a distraction to her strained thoughts, she might've spiralled into another nervous panic.

"Yeah, warmer," she repeated. The heat from his body radiated over her chilled skin, goosebumps arising along the length of her arms. "Just not like.. Floor 9 warm though, I hear that place is really on fire right now." She strained her eyes whilst staring ahead, Did that pun make any sense? It sounded better in my head...

Wrapped up in his cloak, she continued the journey all the way into town in an innocent embrace, receiving only a few glances from helpless romantics along the way. She didn't know how to feel about the attention; whatever she'd finally settle on, it certainly made her uncomfortable.

She looked up to him, pushing away from his chest a little as they approached the town's teleport pad. "Thanks for joining me on the quest, and.. the other thing." A light blushed formed on her cheeks. She moved out from under the warmth of the cloak, the cold air breezing past her once more. She felt oddly radiant, despite the biting chill. "I should probably be getting back soon, b-but uhm.. I'll message you when I get back?" Ava felt both excited and nervous at mentioning those words, holding her arms behind her back as she twitched involuntarily from the feeling.

He snorted at the comment about floor nine's warmth and shook his head. "I'd prefer getting a tan to being cooked alive," he joked lightly. "But at least we'd be getting out of the freezer, yeah?"

They walked along and got several strange looks, but Arc didn't seem to mind. It was obvious to anyone that the floor was cold, and extreme temperature could still effect the hypothalamus and cause shock, especially since the NerveGear was hard wired into sensory receptors. Anyone who hadn't figured that out, well... "Made it," he commented offhand as they strode into the safe zone once more.

When she said that she'd be getting back, and that she'd message him to let her know she was okay, Tobias smiled. "That sounds great," he replied evenly. "I'll be waiting up for it." He placed both hands on his hips and took a deep breath. "Thanks for inviting me," he added. "And I'll see you again soon, ma'am." He was careful not to use her real name in front of strangers. That was a secret between friends, in his opinion.

Did I just... get a date... with the girl I like? His body felt odd as the realization sank in deeper than before. Holy crap. I'm gonna faint.

"I'll see you later T- uh, Arc," she spoke in farewell, twisting on the spot towards the teleport pad. She looked over her shoulder with a smile and waved subtly, not wanting to draw the attention of potential onlookers. Stepping onto the pad, the stones surged with energy beneath her. "Teleport Starting City!" With those words, she began to phase out of existence, her arms and feet dissolving into data first. The wave resumed as her eyes caught one final glimpse of the man, her world turning to black shortly after.

And then a flash of light.

Ava sighed a happy sigh, the comfort of knowing she was closer to home masking the butterflies that flourished in her stomach.

I have a date...

She stepped forwards.

... in Aincrad...

Once more, her pace quickening.

... with Arc.

Birdie was home to the workshop in a flash, the door still wide open as she sprung up the spiral staircase and through the wooden door of her bedroom. "Menu.. Friends.. Message 'Arc'-" she selected.

Her fingers paused as the window prompted her to give the message a subject. "Hmm..."
