[SP-F4] When Ice Meets Fire <<Avalanche>> Complete

Recommended Posts

Itzal continued to find himself coming back to the frozen fourth floor, despite that he hated it.  However this time was for a quest.  He heard it was a respawning boss quest and he knew that this meant the monster would give off a good amount of experience the first time around.  However this time, he would be going alone.  The rumors stated that it was dangerous for low levels and once he heard what it's stats before the health and energy update the cardinal added a while ago, he knew that unless it gave the boss a whole lot more, it probably would still be weak.  Either way he was here now and he intended to find it and kill it.  It shouldn't be hard to do either of them with his level and skill.  He stood there wearing his Twilight Cloak, pulling it in to protect him from the cold.  Thanks to survival the worst of it was blocked off, but he still hated the feeling the cold gave him.  Ascendant's Rosario hung on his left hip and Oblivion Ring was on his right hand.  He was ready to take down this monster.  But first he needed to search the mountain to find the creature.  And that may or may not take a while...

OOC- an 18 must be rolled to find it in this thread ;)

Itzal began to tread up the mountain side, keeping an eye out for anything that could hint the appearance or possible area the boss Avalanche could be hiding.  However the path was steep and many cliff like rocks dotted in his way.  He doubted the boss would spawn somewhere so steep.  He even found it hard to simply climb the path.  If it had been straight up and down with more rocks then it would be easy for him to just climb it.  However it wasn't.  It was slanted just enough for him to have to walk the entire way rather than climb it, and the rocks were too far away from each other in height for him to climb using those.  He grunted as he forced his leg through more deep snow.  Normally his foot would be numb by this point, but the survival skill kept that from happening.  So he was feeling the cold at it's strongest.  He wondered if it was for better or for worse.  As he climbed he saw the top of this mountain.  It was a dual mountain, the first one, that he was climbing, having a flat top and many rocks rising from it, while the second was much taller and was peaked at the top.  Itzal was a little relieved that the top of the first mountain was fairly close and pushed forward faster.

As he pushed himself onward he found a flat slope that he stepped onto and lay down, taking a breather.  Kayaba must have known that it would be difficult for anyone making this climb to make it without a resting point.  As he breathed heavily, rubbing his torso to keep himself warm, he noticed something to the right:  It looked like a bush made entirely out of ice.  Itzal moved closer to examine it and noticed that some of the ice was actually crystals that he might be able to retrieve.  He grabbed a hold of one and slid it out of place, smiling as he did so.  The crystal looked exactly like carved ice, beautiful in all it's glory.  As he examined it he wondered if Kasier would like it.  Perhaps he could make it into an item for her...  After examining it he placed it in his inventory and lay back down, still breathing heavily, more so from the cold than stamina loss at this point.  After a while he decided he had lay there long enough and forced himself to stand and continue.

Itzal pushed onward through the snow, not giving up in the slightest.  The freezing cold of the snow made him desire to get to the top that much more, and faster.  His hatred towards this pain made him want to get it over with.  Finally he made it to the top.  However now the air was getting colder.  He sighed realizing he would never get any amount of warmth on this floor and began scanning the area.  It looked like a decent place to fight, though the ground was uneven and there were cliffs and many huge rock pillars sticking out from the edge.  However he saw no sign of a mini boss.  Sighing, he made his way over to the center, looking for another path that would lead up the peaked mountain.  He knew Avalanche was on these mountains, of that he was certain.  As he looked he noticed not only the path, but a rare ore in the side of the mountain as well as some wood.  Eager for a fire he walked over but stopped when he realized that it could draw monsters close to him, which he didn't have time for right now.  So he grabbed the ore and made his way up the path, grumbling as he did so.

Itzal pushed through the snow and was a little pleased that the snow on the ground wasn't as thick as before, allowing him to actually move around.  He put himself into a jog, hoping to get there faster as well as warm himself up.  However when the snow began to crunch beneath his feet he sighed and slowed down, dampening the noise.  He wasn't yet skilled in stealth and possibly never would be, although it would make things a bit easier.  However being a scout wasn't easy as some believed.  Not if you wanted to powerlevel and get to the front lines to help.  However it couldn't be helped.  He continued to climb the path and scanned the area for any possible materials he could snag.  As he looked around he spotted a cliff, a bright blue ore sticking out of it.  Itzal made his way over and pulled it out with ease, slipping it into his inventory.  Still no sign of the boss.

As he continued up the road the air was becoming even colder.  He wondered how long it would take for him to grow icicles.  He pulled his arms in and began rubbing them against his torso, desperately trying to keep himself warm as he scanned the area.  He spotted a material up ahead but no boss.  He was now guessing that the boss was at the top of the peaked mountain.  The path was going all over the place as well, never going straight or in a perfect circle, or a spiral up the mountain, etc.  As he moved upward he thought he heard a sound and drew his sword swiftly and peered into the darkness.  "Who's there?!"  He waited for a response but nothing came.  As he moved forward with swift strides, he finally spotted...  The goat.  He stopped in his tracks.  What was a goat doing on a frozen mountain?  He stared at the animal as it bounded out of sight before sighing and reaching down to grab the blue crystal in the snow and adding it to his inventory.

Itzal continued to walk up the mountain and for some reason couldn't help but think about Skyrim and it's snowy terrain.  It was a great game but it wasn't an immersive reality one.  If it was, he'd probably avoid the game.  That thought made him begin to wonder what sort of game he would like to see turned into an immersive reality game.  Legend of Zelda would be cool.  Destiny definitely.  Halo would be awesome to see turned into a virtual reality game.  There were so many games that could be made into good vr games but he knew it took effort and skill to develop.  However if it was done right those games might be done better than SAO.  Itzal however wanted to make an original game.  One with incredible lore, locations, monsters, techniques, gear, stats, skills, bosses, raids, dungeons, everything that made a video game a game.  He wanted to make the greatest submersive virtual reality game of all time.  Nothing beat originals and he wanted to make the best of the originals.  And with that thought in mind he decided that he could beat the cold this day.

As soon as he thought this he heard a rumbling up ahead.  He glanced at his sword real quick before switching his armor to Niger Natio, nodding, and jogging up to a small flat area on the mountain.  It was big enough for a fight, but not much room to move around in.  The moment he stepped into the area several large crystals began to glow, revealing a pile of snow in the center.  Itzal waited a moment before it exploded before him, the boss roaring in all it's fury.  The creature was around seven feet tall and was entirely made out of ice.  It's eyes glowed blue and it slammed the ground with it's fist, causing the ground to shake.  Itzal wondered how strong this boss was supposed to be.  He moved into his defensive stance and the creature narrowed it's eyes at him.  The player seemed confident, maybe too confident, it it's abilities.  Avalanche would just have to show it what pride does to everyone.

Itzal charged at Avalanche and struck at him but was forced to halt his action when the monster swung a giant fist at Itzal.  After dodging he made a mental note that the creature was a lot bigger than he originally thought, and that swing was pretty hard to avoid.  After the monster swung however, Itzal couldn't help but notice that it didn't move it's physical position.  Itzal glanced downward and noticed that it had yet to pull it's waist out of the ground.  Seven feet tall and it wasn't even fully out yet?  He needed to beat this thing before it climbed out.  He struck at the monster again but it blocked the attack with it's left arm and let out a roar as it swung at him again but Itzal jumped to avoid it.  He pushed off and got away in time, but each time he dodged it, the monster pulled itself a little more.  This wasn't going to end well he could tell.

Itzal continued to leap around the giant ice monster as it tried to strike at him.  Itzal knew this wasn't going to end well unless he finished it off quickly.  As he jumped out of the way his sword charged blue and released Shadow Explosion on the monster.  He watched as the monster lost nearly three fourths of it's total health.  In a flash of outrage, Avalanche's eyes darkened to a dark blue and he swung both of his arms at Itzal, sending him flying.  Itzal crashed against the ground and groaned from the impact.  He looked up and saw the monster struggling to wretch itself free from the ground, it's icy body clenching and writhing as it sought to free itself and chase after him.  Itzal knew that it wouldn't be a good thing at all if the monster escaped and he knew he had to finish it fast.  Like really fast.

Itzal dashed at his opponent who hesitated to strike him at first.  Itzal swung his blade at the monster as he ran by and was blocked by it's arm.  He bounced back and forth around the monster, striking and blocked by the monster.  Getting tired of blocking it turned on the offensive, swinging it's massive arm at Itzal.  Instead of blocking or parrying the attack, Itzal slid underneath the arm and struck at the monster's body.  It roared at the damage even though it wasn't much, and swung at Itzal again, hitting him but only managing to push him away rather than harm him.  Itzal stumbled on the ice, slowly skidding to the edge before he stabbed his sword into the ground to stop himself.  When he did he noticed that a tiny crack appeared on the ice.  Then he heard desperate movement and looked up to see Avalanche writhing as he pushed and pushed to get out.

Itzal pulled his sword out and watched as Avalanche was beginning to break free of the ice.  The monster gave out an almighty roar before narrowing it's eyes to Itzal.  The two stared at each other for a moment and Itzal had selected a sword art to use that would finish this if he landed a critical hit.  With that he charged.  The monster ran up to him as well and when Itzal jumped at it, Avalanche jumped to the side, and swung at Itzal mid air.  Instead of getting hit however, Itzal pushed off of the arm using his legs, and adjusted his body in the air so that he landed on his feet, sliding a bit backward.  He then charged again, this time choosing to slide across the ground, releasing snake bite on Avalanche, landing a critical hit and killing the boss.  The monster roared as it's health dropped past zero, froze, then shattered.  Itzal took a deep breath but it didn't last long as he heard a loud crack.

Itzal stood in a defensive position, ready to take on whatever it was.  However when he saw nothing around him and the cracking continued he looked down.  The spot where his sword hit was cracking, spreading.  He watched as a line started making it's way over to the broken area Avalanche escaped from.  His reaction was fast and he didn't hesitate to run for the path but he wasn't fast enough.  The moment the cracks met the entire area shattered and became a literal avalanche.  Itzal struggled to stay on the ice rather than fall into the snow which would bury him alive and scanned for something he could ride.  Then he spotted a type of wood he had never seen before but didn't worry about analyzing it right now.  He grabbed it and used it as a snowboard...  Which he had never done before in his life.  Only time would tell if he'd learn today.

Itzal struggled to hold his balance under the moving snow beneath him, however his brief time surfing at the beach with Kasier allowed him to be able to keep his balance....  Somewhat.  He still struggled and was putting all his effort and focus into keeping himself stable at all possible.  He scanned the area ahead and noted that it would be some time before he reached the bottom.  He also noted the many trees and large stones that were ready to fall into the avalanche as it passed.  He'd need to master balance on this thing quickly he realized.  He saw a large tree and noted that a branch appeared to be loose and decided to practice.  He leaned his body ever slightly to the right and moved over, grabbing the branch as he passed by.  The incredible speed made his hand sting a little but he put it into his inventory and breathed calmly.  He had to get the hang of maneuvering before the obstacles arrived.

After he had grabbed the branch he noted that crystals flew out of the snow from time to time.  If he could get a hang of the balance he could catch one.  He focused on practicing moving left to right and once he had he stopped and looked up at the scene with a new mindset.  Now he couldn't help but see the entire scenario as one of those games you move left and right, duck and jump, collect powerups and coins, until you reached the end.  However there were also obstacles and monsters that would inevitably get in his way.  He spotted a crystal fly out at him and he shot his hand out to grab it, almost losing his balance as he did so but he recovered pretty quickly.  He shook his head to refocus on what was going on and spotted one or two monsters that seemed to be gliding across the snow behind him, working to catching up.

OOC- A single successful strike will knock the monsters over.  This is rp fodder, not leveled lootable mobs

As they grew closer Itzal noticed that they seemed to be some type of Ice Orcs.  He thought about that name for a bit before shaking his head and decided to just call them Falmer.  There were three of them and each falmer was wearing leather armor and each had a jagged sword.  They seemed to be less balanced on their own boards and Itzal decided to take a chance and strike them.  However when he made the attempt he nearly fell off his own board.  The falmer leaned over to strike him and he ducked to avoid one attack and 'put on the brakes' to slow himself down long enough to avoid the second attacks and ended up behind the group, then leaned forward to catch up.  He really did feel like he was in a minigame right now.  And he had to admit it was fun.

When he caught up the three falmer came on him again.  This time however Itzal drew his own sword.  He nearly lost his balance when he drew the heavy weapon, but quickly adjusted for the extra weight.  The falmer from the right swung his sword and Itzal deflected the blow, sending the monster back.  Then the Falmer from his left moved in to strike when a small log came flying out of the snow and struck it in the forehead, and Itzal caught it when it bounced off, inserting it into his inventory.  Then the third leaped onto his back and Itzal nearly lost his balance but managed to grab the Falmer with his left hand and throw it off of him.  There were two Falmer left and he was losing road quickly.  The objective here was to eliminate the three Falmer before he reached the bottom.

The monsters saw their comrade fall into the snow and disappear.  With a roar of rage one of them leaped at Itzal and stabbed him through the chest, bringing out a growl of frustrations.  He wrestled with the Falmer as he tried to keep his balance, and finally managed to throw it off of him.  As he did so he felt another stab in his back and swung his sword at the falmer but it pushed itself away in time to evade the strike.  Itzal panted for a moment as the two stared at each other.  Then there was a rumble and the two of them decided to focus on avoiding the huge rock they were about to run into.  Itzal went right while the falmer had went left.  Itzal kept his eyes open for any materials he could end up using but there was nothing that had popped up.  He watched as the paths were about to meet again and readied his sword for the last Falmer.

The moment the rock separation was gone Itzal leaned over to keep himself from hitting the wall but was surprised to see that the monster wasn't there.  Wondering where it had went he caught a glimpse of the monster on the wall itself and watched it leap towards Itzal.  Itzal thrust his sword upward and struck the monster hard in the torso and it went limp, falling into the snow.  Itzal sheathed his sword and saw a large, very brightly glowing crystal hanging from a falling tree.  He positioned himself then leaped into the air, grabbed the crystal, and landed on the board, once again nearly falling over but he kept his balance.  Soon he reached the bottom and when he finally stopped moving was when he felt his legs shaking.  He stood there for a moment before laughing and looked back at the toppled mountainside.  He shook his head and put the wood into his inventory.  My oh my was this an interesting day.

He walked towards the town so that he could get to a much warmer floor as quickly as possible.  He realized that he didn't exactly feel the cold much any more and he smiled because of it.  Practice made perfect he thought to himself.  Hopefully one day he wouldn't even feel the cold.  Then he and Kasier could spend as much time in this floor as she wanted.  Maybe even live on the floor.  He wasn't sure about the latter but if it made her happy then he would have no issue doing so.  Avalanche wasn't exactly a difficult boss he realized now, and he looked at the item he had received and read the description.  It would be useful if he encountered an opponent with a burn effect, possibly a boss, but it was a one time use of course.  He'd need to time it perfectly.  Putting it in his inventory, he sighed as he reached the town, heading to the teleporter.
