History

Cynthia was born and raised in Kyoto, Japan. She came from an average family of 5. She was the eldest of 3 siblings. A 15 year old brother, and a 11 year old sister. Her older parents were both hard workers. Her father a successful doctor, while her mother was involved in a tech development company. Both of them scientists, so it wasn't a surprise that their children would follow similar paths. Growing up, Cyn was very isolated. This wasn't out of shyness, but out of choice. For some reason Cyn never liked other children, and she never really seemed lonely either. Not like there was really anyone she wanted to be friends with at her school anyways. She was sent to a prestigious private high school, and even though Cyn never really cared for it, she was quite good in her academics. However, she was usually seen alone, because of her rather ominous, and dark personality. One will usually see Cyn with a regular serious expression. She's usually quiet unless spoken too directly, but doesn't mean she won't interrupt others if she feels the need too. The only times Cynthia was different was when practicing her hobbies. Her biggest being Kendo fighting. She had poured her heart into this feet, and developed a close relationship with her teacher. It wasn't long until she began to show potential for the art, and was moved to private classes instead of public. Granted they costed more, but Cyn was willing to pay whatever was needed to improve herself. When she turned 17, Cynthia's younger brother started to make friends with some questionable people at her school. Usually she doesn't really care about what other people do, but if it's family then she's careful to make sure they don't do anything stupid. However, it didn't take long for him to become entranced by these people, and join their little crew. Soon he was into drugs. Harmless smoking and marijuana at first, but it would quickly escalate from there... When he became involved in businesses...

It happened on a Saturday night, when Cynthia got an urgent message from her sibling asking for her help. Wasting no time, Cyn got ready, and went out to assist him. Knowing her brother, she was fully expecting another incident involving drug money. And it seemed to be exactly the case this time. She met him in a dark alley as the rain fell. Her brother in teary panic, explaining everything that had happened. Apparently he got caught scamming a group, and now they were vowed to make him pay for it. Under normal circumstances, Cynthia wouldn't normally care. She'd let her brother's stupid actions have the consequences he deserved. However, this wasn't normal. They were intent on killing him. He didn't want to go to the police because he knew that he'd get arrested as well, so Cynthia was the only one he could ask for help. Before they could get moving home however, the two had been cornered. Far from any active streets, the rival drug gang had Cyn and her brother up against the wall. Not knowing what else to do, Cynthia quickly grabbed a broken rusted pipe to defend themselves. Armed with only pocket knives, Cyn was confident she'd be able to hold her own against the 5 gang members. The next few moments have always been a blur to the girl. Using all he training, she began swinging left and right, trying to utilize her athletics to gain the upper hand. And just when it seemed like she was winning, the loud sound of a gunshot echoed through the ally way. 3 were already down and whimpering on the ground from rusted cuts made by Cyn's Kendo training, but she had forgotten all about the reason why she had come here in the first place... Her brother. Everything went silent after that for a few seconds... Her arm half raised holding the pipe while she stared in horror as the last two gang members, (A lot shorter then the others) Were shaking in fear, one holding a quivering handgun with smoke faintly fading from its barrel. She felt no pain, but she turned to see her younger brother standing completely still... A large red bloodstain forming on his chest.

Somehow she never really remembered the funeral... All she did know was that the sky was grey that day, and she finally felt lonely for the first time in her life. Cynthia never knew what she had until it was gone. A few months later, when she was home alone, Cynthia had heard a knock on the door. Opening it, there was a package on her doorstep. It had her address and family name on it, but she had no idea what the package was. It felt rather heavy, which made her curious. Taking it up to her room, she knew no one would probably care if she opened it. When she did, she found this rather odd looking helmet. And the copy of a game...? Observing it more closely, she noticed only the words "NERVE GEAR" Imprinted along its base, in capital letters. Looking over to the game, it looked equally as mysterious, but also familiar. "Sword Art Online" it read. That's when her memory clicked. THIS was the revolutionary game that everyone had been talking about recently. It apparently had the ability to completely transport someone's mind into a virtual world. A VRMMORPG. Utterly confused as to why it was delivered to her house, Cyn proceeded to look through the box, until she found a small note. Picking it up, she quickly read it.

"Hope you enjoy your pre-ordered copy of SAO Hajin! Reviews are off the charts, and this game will change the way we see EVERYTHING! Also congratulations on being one of the first people to order a copy! Upon receiving this package, SAO will launch fairly soon, so you better get ready!"

Hajin... That was her brother. She had known he was into video games, but she had no idea he had the money to actually buy this game. A small flyer came with the package as well, giving people some insight to SAO. As the name suggested, they used swords, which sparked Cyn's interest at first. That's when she noticed the small numbers telling her what time the servers were going to launch. It was today! In just 15 minutes from now! Clenching her fist in the memory of her dead brother, she decided it may be worth the try... It would be a shame after all leaving this thing to gather dust in the empty room... Silently she placed it on her head, and relaxed on her bed with her arms over her stomach... She closed her eyes, and waited for Sword Art Online to launch.

Personality

To most, Cyn may seem very distant and cold, but that is not what she intends. Of course she's usually serious and down to earth, rarely acting immature about most situations, especially in SAO. Her personality wasn't even altered at all when the cold truth hit her. Learning that all the players were trapped inside the virtual world until they've managed to cleared it. If anything, it just bolstered it even more. She can often appear rude to some, but the truth is she is usually just honest. Brave for a girl her age, she isn't afraid to call others out on their actions. Especially if they're being obnoxious about it. That being said, she can sometimes be socially awkward due to her constant thinking about the future. But of course, Cyn is still human, and she does possess other feelings just like anyone else. It may take some time to earn her trust, but if you do, she will be loyal until the end. She can also be super protective over her friends, and will do anything n her power to defend them from harm.

Virtues:
- Bold: Because of past experience, Cyn has learned not to be afraid of speaking her mind. She will almost be completely honest about her opinion on something, regardless of who she's talking too. Of course this also has its drawbacks. It wouldn't be hard for her to make enemies for her brutal honesty.

- Practical: Cyn is a very down to earth person, and usually calm. She has good control over her emotions, and knows how to stay focused on the task at hand. Something she can usually use to abuse her opponents with if they don't share similar virtues.

- Loyal: As stated before, Cyn can be very heard to earn her trust, but if you do manage to get on her good side, she will be loyal to a fault. She will never hesitate to defend her friends, in anyway she can... Even if it means putting herself in danger.

Flaws:

- Rebellious: Cyn can be rather defiant if she wants too. She doesn't usually like taking orders from others, especially if she has a strong feeling that it could end badly. Because of this, she can abandon plans all together, attempting to find her own way to solve a problem.

- Anxious: Despite what Cyn may show on the outside, she does have internal struggle. She can become quite anxious about things, causing her to lose focus if the reason is too much for her to ignore. This can effect her social skills.

- Solemn: Cyn is a very serious person. She doesn't think SAO is a joke at all, and will always try her best to take things with the most maturity possible. It usually takes a significant act to make her smile.
