[PP] Knights and Samurai: Seul vs Baldur

Recommended Posts

Seul stood in the middle of the arena as he usually did whenever he was going to participate in a duel. Quite some time had passed since the last time he fought in the arena, but his growth was certainly evident in his equipment and stats. He was determined to get stronger and one of the few ways of measuring his strength was in duels against other players. Monsters were simple enough to beat with a little careful planning, but other players who could think and feel were a real challenge. Besting one in combat would serve as a good indicator of power.

Today his opponent would be Baldur, a man he had only spoken with in passing from time to time, but despite that respected as a fellow frontliner. While the Lodestar was stuck on torch duty during the last boss fight the samurai was dishing out more damage than he could have hoped to do. Seul wanted to be more useful as it seemed he was only taking a back seat approach in the raids so in the hopes of gaining an understanding of where Baldur's strength came from he proposed they fight.

Baldur walked into the arena, dressed just as he always was. His traditional styled samurai garb, with light bits of bronze armor attached to his clothes to give protection without restricting mobility and his trademark blue and white haori settled over his shoulders. At his hip were two katanas, and a third over his back. The one he rested his hand on was blue and white and seemed to hum with a bit of gentle power. He raised his free right hand and waved at Seul as he came into the dueling arena, sand crunching beneath his feet.

"Hey, Seul! How are you? It's been a while since we met up outside of the boss room."

Baldur's steel blue eyes scanned over the man quickly, appraising him of his current gear appearance versus those he normally wore to try and call up any differences from his memory. Seul used to be a tank, but he seemed to have moved away from that recently to pursue damage, and at a time when they had needed more tanks than DPS... but hopefully if Baldur could help Itzal train up one of their own, they could soon add another tank to their list. Then they would just need to track down Xion and figure out why the tank had not joined them against Malethis.

"Does a half loss duel sound good to you?" Baldur asked the knight as he sent the duel request to the other player for him to decide to accept or not.

His train of thought broke as the voice of Baldur filled the area. “Hey, I’m doing good and yeah, I’ve been kind of anti-social lately.” He said now wondering why that was the case. Most of his days were spent outside of towns fighting, but he couldn’t remember the last time he did something that wasn’t related to a quest or a fight in some way. All he could  do for now though was shrug. “How’ve you been?”

Soon after he posed the question the HUD notification for the duel appeared before his eyes and with a nod he pressed the accept button which in turn triggered the countdown timer. He took a few paces back and drew his sword, holding it at the ready and waiting for his opponent to do the same. Even though there was no ill will between them, he did want to win and wasn’t about to pull any punches in the process.

"Busy!" Baldur said with a smile to the Knight.

"I've been trying to round up materials and loot to help me keep up with the flow of the front lines. It's expensive to keep all of those consumables stocked. I imagine with an entire guild it's not much different, since you have so many mouths to feed."

As the countdown of the duel began, Baldur shook his head back and forth, as if he were trying to crack his neck, though the gesture was fruitless here within the world of sword art online, and then he took a moment and bared an inch of his sword, before sheathing it again. If he could be fast enough, he would try to charge the Knight as see if he could get the drop on him. It was his strongest attack by far.

"Here we go, my friend!" Baldur said to Seul as the timer struck the number 1.

"Fight!" The words appeared large over their heads, and their names and health bars hovered high above where anyone who wanted to watch could see the progress of their fight.

Unfortunately, it seemed like Seul was one step faster than Baldur was.
