Seul 1 Posted November 22, 2016 Author #21 Share Posted November 22, 2016 (edited) ID: 71160 | 8 (4 + 4) Searching the area was pretty pointless. No hidden passageways ended up being found so with a disappointed look on his face, Seul wandered out into the original corridor to make his way back to the tavern to talk to Ali. His search skills were awful. He seemed to be down on his luck when it came to finding dungeons and treasure. He needed a way to get out of the rut, but was not exactly sure how to do it. Part of him was hoping to run into more thieves on the way out just so he could have something to take his anger out on. Thankfully he was answered in that regard as two stood watch at the entrance to the hideout, just waiting for someone to come along and kill them with a few slashes from a two handed straight sword. Who was Seul to deny them that? Edited November 22, 2016 by Seul
Seul 1 Posted November 22, 2016 Author #22 Share Posted November 22, 2016 (edited) After taking down the manticore these mere thieves were like flies to him. He ran forward, bashing both on the back of the head with his Tempest sword art and activating the stun effect of the move. They simultaneously fell to the ground and were left as limp husks of what they were only seconds ago. They were going to die, he would make sure of it. After the hell that they were putting the people through, they didn’t deserve to breathe the same air as the kind NPCs back in town. Heaving his blade up to rest on his shoulders he looked at them both in turn. It was kind of pathetic that even though they outnumbered him the difference in strength was so drastic. He shook his head. They were only NPCs too, programmed to act the way that they did. It didn’t fully excuse their actions, but it was enough to make him at least somewhat forgiving. Seul 1 Posted November 22, 2016 Author #23 Share Posted November 22, 2016 (edited) He was not forgiving enough to let them live though. Activating Calamity Disaster, he tore into each of them until there was nothing but pixels left. With that his quest was over. He could return to Ali and tell him that the Manticore was just a big hoax, so after sheathing his sword he left the hideout and ended up on the road back to town. It was a peaceful walk and not many monsters bothered to cross paths with him. All he could really do was focus on the mask. He wanted to wear it, but doing so would definitely tip off Ali. He wasn’t going to part with it to a man who would only see it as a toy. Not when it could be used for something that actually mattered like protecting others. Perhaps next time they crossed paths he would tell him the truth. But that was a big maybe. Seul 1 Posted November 22, 2016 Author #24 Share Posted November 22, 2016 Once Seul arrived back at the tavern the time was well into the night. But Ali was still there at the bar, waiting for his return. He wondered how long the NPC would wait if he had not made it out of the fight alive, but figured he would probably be alerted somehow if players perished during his quest. Ali took notice of his return and sprang up from his seat, patting him on the shoulders and preemptively congratulating him on a job well done. There was also something about making it out in one piece thrown in, but Seul had tuned him out by this point. He was only focused on the mask. Being the poor liar that he was, he was not sure if the man would even buy his story that the manticore was not real. He had tried to stay composed but his heart felt like it would beat out of his chest soon.
Seul 1 Posted November 22, 2016 Author #25 Share Posted November 22, 2016 “Well, did you find anything?” Seul just shook his head before responding in a calm manner. “I did find the thief hideout, but am afraid I must be the bearer of bad news because the Manticore was not real after all. Just a rumor they created to sound tough. I ran into the thieves there and questioned them all, but they came clean about the manticore’s lack of existence to me. Sorry.” It was a lie. A bold faced one at that. He was hoping Ali would just take it would not ask any more additional questions, but he was not counting the possibility out. Ali looked at him for a moment, presumably trying to read his expression to see if he was telling the truth or not. It was a tough job trying to muster such a poker face, maybe even tougher than having to fight the manticore, but in the end it prevailed as the man just sighed a response. Seul 1 Posted November 22, 2016 Author #26 Share Posted November 22, 2016 "Eh? So it was all just a rumour made up by the thieves?" He asked with a partially surprised expression as the story began to set into reality. "I didn't really believe it without some proof...." He sighed again, but then produced a pouch full of Col coins. "For your troubles..." he added while tossing the pouch towards Seul. In the same moment, the Quest Ending Window popped up in front of the him, displaying the hard earned rewards from the mission. He did it. He was home free and able to take the mask along with him. It took most of his willpower to keep from smiling, when he really should have looked more disappointed at the results of a fairy tale creature not being real. Only he knew the truth, that the chimera was all too real and probably would have caused a lot of damage if he had not stopped it.
Seul 1 Posted November 22, 2016 Author #27 Share Posted November 22, 2016 In the end no one got hurt except for a couple of thieves that had it coming to them. Speaking with Ali a little further made Seul conclude that the man really wasn’t that beaten up about the lack of the Manticore’s existence. The knight was able to walk away a little stronger with a unique piece of equipment and a whole lot more col in his pocket. It really was the definition of a win win situation. After leaving the tavern he equipped the mask, wandering through town feeling completely cool with his new armor piece on. He imagined it must have been quite a sight to see someone actually wearing such a thing, but he didn’t mind the stares at all. They only reminded him of the things that he managed to accomplish during his time spent in this world. This was nowhere near the end of his story. It was only the beginning of the next chapter.
