[SP-F1] Order Up! <<Earning a Living>>

Recommended Posts

Considering the profession was one that was none too familiar to him, it was clear that he was going to have to be trained before he could try to set up a shop. According to the quest, he should meet up with an NPC at one of the locations for the job. To do this of course would require a full day of training before being given the chance to work his investment. Naturally, he wanted to just provide some food, all in one many like to call it. Will it open for 24 hours. Most likely not, unless he hired staff. But NPCs aren't going to take Col, and players also get the chance to take the same quest, so no one would work for him. That was fine, he was capable of doing it on his own, he just can't take all the orders right as they were being given to him. But when he can, he felt that he could treat them well, and his experience in business will allow him to prosper if he held his cards correctly. With this in mind, he'd walk over to the free empty building offered from the quest.

"Sey, is that right?" The man inside of the shop would ask politely as he would be chopping up a few onions inside of the shop. On his head was a little chef hat, on his chest was an apron. A little tune would be hummed as he continued to cut up the many layers of onion at a rapid pace. Despite this being the shop that belonged to the player, it was still being used to make food before he could start. Perhaps he would not be crying happy tears if it were not for the immense amount of onion being scented through the whole shop. Nodding his head, he would reply. "Y-yeah. I'm here to obtain my tools for making a shop here. Thanks for taking me on again." He'd reply as he took off his hoodie and placing it on the coathanger offered at the doorstep, hanging it on the top area. He'd then walk over to the NPC, who was done cutting the onion and sliding the knife of the cutting board, sending all the chunks of onion to the trash.

"Er... Isn't that a waste of food?" Sey asked as he would tilt his head to the side. The NPC would tilt his head to the side as well with question in his eyes as well. But then it would turn into a smile a few seconds later, much to the relief of the snow-haired player. For a moment there, he thought he might have said something wrong or stupid. "Why would it matter to you? I am sure you can remake that sort of thing, right?" The NPC asked. It was true. His father did teach him how to cook in case he ever needed to survive. While the options were not too expansive, he was more than willing to learn. So Sey would nod his head in agreement to what he had been told. "Eh, you're probably right. Sounds like a good task. Now how shall I earn the tools to make my meals? I have some materials to help with making some food, so that is not going to be a problem."

"Well, you need to learn how everything is set up before I can give you your tools for earning the place. I need you to re-enact how a customer is supposed to be treated, and so I am going to act as one. Consider it a test. If you pass, you get the reward of having your own shop. But if you fail, well, better luck next time."  A simple game with simple rules, but tat did not make either of them too easy. Sey was going to have to use the best skills he had in order to impress the NPC and get the job. This was like an interview in a way, which was something that was rather annoying is anything. It was not like he did not know how to do that, but it was such a long process that caused a lot of stress for no reason. But if this was a quest, there was no way around it unfortunately. "Consider me in then. I am ready whenever." The challenge had been accepted without hesitation.

With that, the NPC would walk outside of the door. Sey would pretend to be cleaning up the counter as if he were working the whole time. the worst thing a clerk could do was wait for the customer. It seemed odd and put them off guard, making them feel uneasy and making the job a lot harder. One must pay attention to such painfully magnified detail in order to understand this sort of thing. The door bell would ring as the NPC would return back, and so Sey would look back to him with a smile on his face before greeting him. "Hello sir! Welcome to the shop! How may I help you today?" The key was to not ask for too much detail. Just the perfect amount. Customers are usually very pick with the first time that they are greeted. Asking them what they would like to buy was a bad move. For all he knew, they could have been window shopping, which was just fine with him.

The NPC was a decent actor for sure, if nothing else can be given credit, it was most certainly that. Though Sey still believed he was the better manipulator, it was still a good job executed. "Oh no, but thanks! I'll just look around for a bit." He'd explain, which can be many things. One, he was truly here to just window shop and probably will here for a few seconds. But there was a few doubts about that. This customer was the NPC, and something like just waiting and letting them look around was probably nothing too likely from this experiment. The next thing that can be done is that they were going to look through the menu, in which that will require some patience since people never really make up their mind the first time. Sey needed to prepare himself to make some snacks... But to do that in front of the customer while they were waiting was quite rude, so he was not even able to do that either.

The waiting game killed the atmosphere with nothing but a panicking silence. Sey needed to get something to play music, because it was a rather eerie atmosphere for not just any customer that walked into the shop, but also him himself. If not at least for them, he needed to provide himself some comfort so that he did not screw up a meal. But that would be for a later time. The NPC seemed to not mind it, considering he was just a computer ran being that was supposed to function the same way as a human, though emotions can never really be made perfectly like a human. Such detail could never be made by just a group of humans, not even the ones that were as advanced as the ones who made nervegears. Placing his hands in his pockets, he would wait for the order before he began, it was not like a customer can see that anyways over the counter.

"All right, I would like some steamed peanuts please. Just vanity ones though. And can we please do this quickly? I have to go pick up my daughter from school in a few minutes." The NPC asked, giving an ironic scenario. He took quite the amount of time trying to choose, only for steamed peanuts to be the snack needed. On top of that, now he was being told to hurry up. It was not anything anger-inducing or anything, just ironic, something that was unexpected. Well, looks like he had an order to execute. But.. He had nothing to work with. "I gave you some peanuts to work with. Look at the pot and you should find them in there." So Sey did not have to sacrifice any materials in order to get the order done, which was a relief since a vanity item was not something in the best of interests for him to make. There were much better uses than that sort of unfortunate thing.

Walking over towards the pot, he would notice that there were indeed peanuts there. A small bag of them, probably the size of a snack for sure. There was no water yet, so he had to go get some. As of right now, he had a slow method of getting water. He has one filter, and gets bottled water and pours it through the filter, so that he knew that it was clean to drink. It would end up inside of a little fiber glass container that holds all of it inside of the entity. With this, he would place the water inside of the pot before setting it to a decent 300 degrees before waiting for the water to boil. In the meantime, he would go over to the cabinet to pull out the salt and the sugar, since a sweet and salty taste to peanuts often were the best kinds. With this in mind, he placed them both down as he then felt the steam beginning to reveal itself, showing that the water was heating up.

As the water began to bubble, he would begin to place in a peanut gently over the steaming water, though not quite letting it in. If he were to do that, it would end up all soggy and unfortunate. The steam that gave steamed peanuts their name. The water added texture, but too much of it would just ruin both the texture and the taste. When he had done that, he would place up the peanut before putting in a hint of salt and a hint of sugar on the peanut. He spun it around while doing so in order to get all sides covered. As a result, he'd place the peanut back into the bag of five before repeating the process with all the other four peanuts. Once they had been placed in the bag, he would zip and seal it before handing it over to the NPC, who looked up at the clock. "4 and a half minutes, Sey. That's pretty decent for the peanuts, though we can always improve. Set it to 4 next time."

It made sense as to why he would be trivial out the time. After all, he is supposed to be a coach. And a coach tells a player that need to be strict, and while it was a bit disheartening at some, it was all for a better future later in time. But the time was not wht matred, thee both of them knew this. It was the taste and the texture that mattered, he was hoping it would be a good result. If so, he would get the cooking supplies he needed. That was why he was told to make the peanuts since they did not really need and form of cutting or anything. Placing his hands in his pockets, he would watch with a bit of anxiety as thee npc would pluck out one of the snacks from the bag.

Sey would try to remain neutral about the scene as he would watch the peanut get chewed up. The npc did not seem to flip out from the taste, and he even nodded his head from thetaste. o it was okay based on what sey could tell. It as hard to tell cconsidering how morphed the face seemed to be at times. But overall, he seemed to be enjoying it. After a few more seconds, he would her the gulp of the peanut go down. Still trying to remain calm, he would breathe a little bit more, opening up his mouth a little bit while doing so. It would only be a matter of time before he found out if the quest was a success or a failure. The hud screen was going to pop up anytime soon anyways, so that wont come as a surprise.

The hud screeen would then pop up. The first words that his eyes would end up meeting was the successful ones. Because lf them, he knew that the snack he made was decent enough to pass. When he grew better in time, he would learn to make them at mastery level. But now was a great time for him to learn, the only regret that he had was that he took so long to make this his job. He will make great things if the Npcs, who were indifferent to the players, were able to enjoy what he had right now. The npc in front of him smiled as he continued to eat the peanuts inside of the bag. Now time to hear what he had to say. So Sey pressed the blue circle of acceptance and prepared to listen.

"That was not half bad. For your level, you do extremely well. Perhaps I am biased, but it is good regardless." He explained woth a smile before the pulling out a bag with a handle and two zippers on. They would then be handed over to him as he would take the iteems that were in them. The snow haired player would open up the zippers to see all sorts of items in there. In the first pocket would be all of the untensils that were need. A lot of forks, spoons, and knives were on top. Then the ones at the bottom were all sorts of pans and spatulas, cutting knives, mixing bowls and spoons, all of the things that could be used for making really good meals. While his menu is kind of limited right now, he will bring his cooking skills up soon.

When he got to the second zipper, there were all sorts of goods inside of them. They consisted of all sorts of goods, canned goods, milk, ice packs, water, peanuts, and things of that nature. Very basics  but things that were definitely needed in order to make this a success. This quest was set to really help someone thay loves business. Plus, he could feel the hope of his future inside of the shop.  That was a lot of faith, no doubt. But if his dad taught him well enough like he felt he did, he could make the Yukino family known worldwide. He was able to help his father, even outside of the real world. The game was only helping him now.  It placed a sense of comfort for him, knowing that he is able to make the best out of the game, treated like an adult and making a living. How fitting the name of the quest.

"Well Sey, you need to also get yourself some music here as well. The atmosphere seems a little bit unsettling in all honesty. What genre of music do you like?" The NPC would tell him with a smile, asking without giving him some sort of test for him to take or anything. It took away any form of tension that had been made back in the past. Placing his finger on his chin,  he would end up thinking about what society might like, but something he also can handle all day since he might stick around for the whole day if he never left. Who knows, he might actually enjoy his time over there and try to make it his prime source of income, maybe even able to buy himself a house or help with the guild hall, something that allowed him to sleep. So with that, he made his music selection.

"i want to have some violin and piano music. I think that will work for both the customers and me." Sey explained as he nodded his head. The npc would in turn also do the same thing. However, he did not leave the shop yet. In fact, he even turned his body towards the snow haired player. And so a while new topic would end up being brought to light. And it was more of a test of his morals. Sure, the quest was over, anyond could say whatever they liked as an answer. "So tell me, what do you plan to do with that shop of yours?" And there it is. He placed his hands across his chest and looked down, wondering what he should reply with. He felt the urge to be blunt, but he did not like the thought of coming off like a prick. Arrogance was always awful. But... How can he reply?

But before he could explain what he was going to do, the NPC would laugh a small amount. "Nah, that was a question more for yourself. Allow yourself some space to think about it. I am not saying you should not make the shop, I just think you should reflect upon yourself." The npc would explain to him as he would place his palm on the counter, the other with the bag of peanuts still there. This was quite a special and well built being. "Just make sure that you have a path and stick to it. And when you do, I will come back to see how you have done. Make something great with the materials and the many more I have given you." He would explain before walking out from the shop with a smile. Sey would tilt his head, now not quite sure about himself now. He was going to find out, surely, but perhaps in not such a weird way. It did not matter though. The man seemed to be nice, and just looked out for his mental health and shop, a rare thing for players these days.

He ended up coming back a few moments later with a few songs that came from a performer. In it would be a few songs that people could listen to if they were to enter his shop, and it was definitely appreciated. "I got you those piano and violin songs you wants. I added a bit of electronic ones in the mix as well, because you seem like the type as well. It's not anything intense, but hopefully this will do you some good." The NPC explained with a smile before then leaving the shop after that. It was truly a good bit of help he provided for the snow haired player, who was left with a great amount of things to work with now. If he was able to start off slowly, he can gradually grow as a chef, and right before he knew it, he would be able to take on anything. Using his business experience, he was going to make something great from almost nothing, something free, something to never happen in the real world.

A few days later, he would have everything installed and the music player. All of the items were placed where they were supposed to be, he set up a sign for the prices and a few couches for members to sit down and relax. For entertainment, he would have a few posters for some to enjoy, though the best things would take a bit of time before he actually had that finished. "It seems like everything is set." He told himself before going back to work in the kitchen. For a bit of entertainment, he placed on his chef top hat, though it was striped, because that was random and entertaining. As for theme, he did not quite think of one yet. After all, he wanted to be more or less versatile about what he was supposed to do. It was just about ready for business! So with that, he would go to sleep... He did spend all day on making the shop. At least he provided himself his own room to sleep in. It was small, but it was enough.
