» About: RyÅsuke Matsuoka is a student who uses SAO to escape his every day responsibilities. After hearing about the first MMORPG to properly utilize the NerveGear, he's been eagerly anticipating it's release for months, even reading every beta report in preparation. He and several of his close gaming friends were supposed to get the game together but RyÅsuke was the only one able to get a copy, spending several days in line and missing class as a result. Regardless of being alone, he's jumped into the game looking forward to exploring the world of Aincrad and making friends even though he has a tough time meeting new people. After learning that he's trapped during the launch campaign by Akihiko Kayaba, RyÅsuke calms his nerves and creates a game plan to become one of the strongest players in Sword Art Online.

» Virtues:

Veteran. Having played dozens of MMO's and video games over the years, he is able to quickly discern attack patterns of AI controlled enemy monsters. He's seen every manner of beast, grotesque and behemoth that has been imagined so little surprises him in the way of the typical MMO creatures. At first, a charging Minotaur may seem like a looming threat but when you know to have it charge a wall to stun itself, the creature is easy to dispatch. Dragons are no match for a seasoned gamer when you know the tail is just as dangerous as it's gaping maw of flame.

Dependability. Never wanting to let anyone down, Maelstrom is always ready for adventure when called upon and his friends feel safe around him because they know he'd defend them without hesitation. To his true friends, Maelstrom's blade is like a stalwart shield for everyone in the party. They know he'd do everything in his power to not allow harm to come to them.

Resourcefulness. In any situation, Maelstrom is able to act accordingly, finding a way to overcome any obstacle in his way in almost any circumstance. With a tool for every occasion stashed away or a improvised attack plan ready at a moments notice, the battlefield is no more than a chess board to Maelstrom, always planning two steps ahead. Survival is always the best offense to him.

» Flaws:

Withdrawn. Maelstrom finds it hard to talk with others and always finds himself coming off as unsociable even when he's trying to be nice at times. His demeanor is more of a defense he's put up to distance himself from his fellow players. Getting to know someone is seen as a liability sometimes and in certain deadly circumstances, that can prove to be fatal. It may be hard to make friends at first but those who see through his tough personality know the real player behind it.

Daring. At times, Maelstrom will trust in his skills too much in dangerous situations even though in this world it could mean his end. He's not afraid to fight creatures at a higher level than him to gain quick experience points because he feels like he can take them. It's not a safe route to take but to become the best in this world and to stay on top, you have to take risks. Maelstrom willing ventures into the crystal-nullifying zones knowing the risk of death.

Completionist. Must see events through to the end, no matter how arduous it is or how over his head he is. Even if it gets him into a worse situation, Maelstrom will continue on until the task is complete. A labyrinth is less a maze and more a test of will to him. Faced with a daunting challenge, instead of turning back for help, he soldiers on, clearing the dungeon or die trying. It may be dangerous but it's something that Maelstrom feels compelled to finish, just like the game. He's determined to complete the game to free the rest of the players and nothing will stand in his way.
