[F4-PP] The Crescent Moon

Recommended Posts

Hydra lay idly upon a snowy bank of the fourth floor, staring intently up at the moon. Or at least the sword art online equivalent. In his left hand, he held a cracked silver emblem of his former guild. A guild which unfortunately had never taken off, without proper support it quickly collapsed in on itself and many of the members vanished without leaving a word behind. Sighing the spearman sat up and rubbed his eyes. "I've been alone, alone for too long." He whispered to himself in the darkened night. Peering downwards across the fields of snow he glanced at frostbite lake, a popular fishing spot during the day and an even more popular star gazing spot at night. Letting out a yawn the spearman collapsed back into the snow. He had taken note of a few other players around. Most were doing their own thing, whether it be stargazing romancing or enjoying some food it appeared that even during the night floor four could be so full of life. "Perhaps I should reform the guild." Hydra suddenly murmured without really understanding what he was talking about. Smiling to himself at the concept he began to dream about all the possibilities.

it was a rare occurrence that Damien would go anywhere above floor one(About as rare as him going under floor one), but hearing about the winter floor itself, Damien knew he had to check it out. It was a very popular floor, about as many players were on floor four at the time as there were normally on the front line floors. And Damien himself, having a fascination with rain/snow, did not blame these players.

As he walked out the main town of Snowfrost, Damien began to notice there was just as much an abundance of players around outside of the town, as well. To be honest, the floor was filled with players scattered all over across the floor. Damien wasn't just planning on going on a night walk, though. He wanted to go visit the <<Frostbite Lake>>. According to the guidebook, the lake was a great ice fishing spot throughout the day, but at night the lake became an ice skating rink free of monsters. A beautiful sight, it was said to be, as people would come from all around to either stargaze, skate, fish, or simply just lay down and think. Every one of those things sounded fun to Damien besides the fishing.

Damien continued to look at the map bringing him to the lake until he finally reached his destination. Closing the map, Damien did indeed see the lake's beauty. The light snowfall-snowy ground- white trees- and the beauty of the ice on the lake itself. But none of these achieved the spot of being the highest beauty of the lake. The true beauty was how the players enjoyed themselves. Couples pointing up at the stars, pointing out constellations to each other. Players skating enthusiastically on the ice. People laying down, thinking as they looked up to the dark sky.

But as he looked around at the winter wonderland, Damien noticed a player holding a small item in his left hand, and Damien didn't quite know what it was. He was rather interested in it, but he figured there was no way he would figure out what it was without talking to the player, and Damien knew he was not going to openly engage in conversation with the player like that. Besides, the player could prove to be potentially dangerous. Damien certainly did not want that.

So, Damien sat down on the ground not too far from the player. He stretched his arms into the air as he yawned and lied back into the snow. As he laid down, Damien saw all the interesting things in the sky the other players were so interested in. The large stars and dotted constellations. The snowy atmosphere. The big, bright moon. The moon was in a crescent shape similar to one that would be seen in a Dreamworks movie, the only difference being the 'opening' of the crescent facing the right direction. Ahhh, now I know what the guidebook was talking about. This truly is beautiful.

Hydra's eyes fluttered open as he heard the sound of someone not to far away. "Player killer?" He whispered to himself in a sudden yet alert tone of voice, after all not many others would come this close to him, being an orange player himself. For a moment in the dark he couldn't make any figures out, but no one emerged. Hydra let out a sigh and slowly slid the palm of his hand down his spear. As the brunette was about to dismiss it as an animal, perhaps a fox or another creature, his eyes caught sight of a player who was also stargazing. Hydra looked at the player and then at the sigil of the broken crest. "Perhaps I should ask?" Hydra mulled over the thought, after all he wasn't the kind of person to go waltzing up to a random stranger and ask them to join a guild. Especially given the precarious circumstances. The young brunette folded his arms to try and tried to dismiss the stress that was beginning to clutter his mind. Eventually he was able to take a deep breath and then begin to slowly approach the player.

"Oh I should probably remove this." Hydra suddenly realized. Taking off the 'Water Serpent's Fang' and storing it into his inventory. It probably wouldn't help in the situation, the fact he had an orange cursor and was wielding a spear didn't scream threatening enough. The adventurer also made a note to press his feet into the icy snow underfoot, hopefully whoever this stranger was they would hear Hydra approaching, giving them the time to react to his presence. "Alright nearly there now." Whether or not the player recognized his presence Hydra held his hands up and smiled in a friendly sort of manner, trying to show that he meant the player no harm, but similarly that if the player happened to be stronger than him hopefully he would at least hear him out before making any rash decisions.

Damien stared up at the sky as he continued to lay down for a few minutes, before hearing the footsteps. The footsteps sounded louder than what they should've for any normal person walking through the snow. Hmmm... Damien's hand went to his side where his sword, <<Nighthawk>>, laid. He gripped it hard before turning to see a player behind him, raising his hands in the air and smiling at him. This can't be right, there is no way he is looking at me.

Damien looked both ways and all around him before his eyes going back to the player. Okay, I guess he is looking at me. But why? Upon looking at the player again, Damien noticed two things. One, being that the player was the same one he had seen earlier with the item in his hand. Two, much more importantly, the player had an orange cursor. Right when he had been about to set his sword down, he gripped it harder. Oh shooooooot this is not good, what am I doing... Damien looked back at the player. This player had a friendly face and smile and all (and not to mention, he didn't even have a weapon on him!), but the orange cursor kind of drew that all out. Damien knew it could just be a person trying to trick him, or of course it could be a person that genuinely had a reason for being an orange player.

With thoughts running through his head, Damien knew he had no choice but to come forward to the player. If Damien did try to run away and it did turn out it was a PKer, he had no doubt the player would catch up to Damien and kill him where he stood. Of course, if he ran and it really was a nice player that just wanted to talk about stuff, I guess that would just have been rude of Damien. If it is a PKer, I'll have to think something through, give him reason that I should not be killed, show him that I can provide some sort of benefit to him.

So Damien got up, with his Nighthawk still in his hand. Well if I don't want to come off as any kind of threat, even though I know I'm not, I should probably keep this hidden... If I don't want to die here.  He opened his menu, putting his one handed straight sword back into his inventory and looked over to the player and waved. "Umm... Hello?"

Being a socially awkward idiot is certainly not going to get me anywhere, that's for sure. "... Nice view out here, eh?" Damien, in his mind, went through a face-palming moment. Was there nothing better to say? Why, why, why am I such an idiot....  Damien let out a little strange smile towards the player, not wanting to look like anymore of an idiot, and walked closer.

Wow, this is going to be weird situation....

(no worries, I took some time as well ^^)

"What am I doing?" Hydra thought to himself, his friendly smile quick turned into an awkward and slightly nervous laughter. All the spearman had done was approach this player and he hadn't planned a follow-up. The brunette watched nervously as the player stood up, they also seemed a little bit unsure of how to react. Probably because of the orange cursor as Hydra had predicted. "It is a great view." The spearman responded quickly, taking in a breath of cold air and turning his head once more to look at the night sky. After that he stood there for a moment in silence, one thing the fourth floor was great at was calming his nerves. After his head had cleared he turned to face the player for a moment. "My apologies, I didn't mean to spring up on you like that. I had a question, just one." Hydra paused to think on how to phrase it, he wanted to know what it would take to get a player to join a guild. He needed ideas, perhaps this person could help with that. "If you were to join a guild what would you look for in that guild? I know it's a random question but ah..." The hopeful tone in the spearman's voice seemed to diminish with each word. "Sorry." Hydra said once more peering down at the broken sigil of the crescent moon.

(OOC: Adding a small backstory as to why he had not joined a guild yet)

The question had hit Damien like an apple falling out of a tree, leaving his mouth open as he stranded deep into thought. Oh gosh, I don't know..... Hopefully this isn't an invitation to join a guild, or... Damien thought back to the beginning of the game, when he was originally planning on joining a guild and actually starting to fight. The guild, while Damien was still considering if he wanted to join or not, was wiped out while fighting in a dungeon. That left Damien in sadness/depression, as he had gotten to know the players fairly well before they went to the dungeon. Damien spent most of his time lying in his bed at one of the cheap inns in the Town of Beginnings. Thoughts ran through his head for the long while that he stayed there, doing nothing with his life.

But eventually, after that long while, Damien knew he couldn't sit there anymore and he began to explore. Study things. Figure things out before actually heading out into combat so he could prevent any more of his friends from dying and help get out of this game. Damien also decided that he would not allow himself to get too close to any players in case that were too happen, but so far he was not doing good with that.

---

Damien did not realized how long he was staring with the thoughts running rampant through his head until he eventually looked back up at the player. "Ummm.... I don't quite know to be honest...." Damien looked away again, trying to remove the upset face he held. I don't know... Would I really join another guild after that? Damien tried to change his thoughts up a bit. "One that is... friendly, I guess...."

"Friendly..." The thought lingered in Hydra's mind for a moment, as his deep blue eyes drifted in rhythm with the falling snow. A word so small yet so powerful, it cast a smile on Hydra's face. "Thank you," Hydra said turning back towards the stranger, in a whimsical manner. A friendly guild was something he could manage, well at least in theory. Hydra couldn't remember the last time he had felt pure malice to another living being. Coming back from his thoughts he looked at the player for another brief moment, he seemed... upset a little. For a moment the spearman paused "Have I said something wrong, perhaps." Hydra took in a breath of air, trying to dispel the guilt. "Please forgive me, if I said something wrong, it was not in my intentions to upset you." Hydra didn't really know what more to say at this point. He didn't know this person and he only wanted some advice. Then again it wasn't too surprising. This death game had driven people to the extreme, it was understandable that one must be careful in what they say. Just as Hydra opened his mouth to speak again, the sound of a long and drawn out howl echoed through the night. Sending both a shiver of fear and awe down the spearman's spine.

Damien looked at the player. "No, no its fine..." He shook his head a little bit to clear his thoughts. "I was just thinking about something.... But... Anyways... If you don't mind me asking you.... Was there a reason you were asking about, well, what I would look for in a guild?" Damien distracted himself from his previous thought process. But then he remembered something, the small thing the player had been holding in his hand earlier. "If you do not mind me asking, what were you holding in your hand earlier? Looked rather interesting." Damien tried to say that in the least awkward way, but then realized that meant the player would know that Damien was looking at him earlier, while he was lying down. Man, I am an IDIOT. To avoid the player from thinking about how Damien had seen he was holding anything, Damien spoke again to the player. "Oh, and, my name is Damien!" Damien had gotten pretty use to calling himself 'Damien' rather than his birth name, Nathan, at this point.

"Hmm..." Hydra paused for a moment to think on that question. "Well I suppose I was thinking about forming, rather I should say reforming a guild, but I wasn't to sure what would make people interested, now I have more of an idea thanks to you." Hydra laughed lightly. When Damien mentioned the item from earlier Hydra was a little confused at first, after a moment of coming to grips with the question he suddenly realised the player meant the silver guild sigil he had been looking at. "Oh you mean this?" The spearman held out the palm of his hand, in the centre lay the guilds old emblem, worn at the edges but otherwise fine it was a silver emblem of a crescent moon. "Yeah, the old guild didn't last very long. The members vanished alongside the leader causing it to quickly fall into ruin." Hydra let out a slight sigh of depression before returning to his original tone. "Nice to meet you Damien, my name is Hydra." He responded with a smile. @Damien

More just vanishing players... How odd.... Damien looked up at the emblem. It had quite the amazing design for a guild logo. "Well, I really like the emblem." Damien responded, not sure what to say in response to Hydra's discussion regarding vanishing players. It was true, lots of players just disappeared and went off the grid, and were not to be seen again. Sometimes, the players would come back but that was on rare occurrences. "Your old guild... How long had it been around before ... dying out?" Damien figured he needed some way to get the conversation continuing, as he didn't want to seem rude or awkward. "It is pretty awesome that you are planning on reforming this guild! Hopefully it means something meaningful and important to those vanished players, and all members who take part in the guild!" Damien gave a smile to Hydra, awaiting the response to his question about the guild.  @Hydra

"Thanks, and well..." Hydra scratched the back of his neck, a weary smile forming on his face. "Truth be told it lasted a few days, we didn't even manage to get a proper guild uniform and yet." The adventurer thought back to each of his friends, he had known next to all of them on a personal scale. He remembered the cave in and how they all could of died without one another. His eyes drifted off for a moment, leaving only a deep blue abyss of sadness. Shaking his head to he glanced back at @Damien "Thank you, your words and kindness mean a lot." It wasn't too often Hydra had the chance of having such a conversation with a green player, most avoided him with distasteful looks, a few even spat at him. The spearman only believed he hadn't been attacked yet because he tended to stay on the lower floors. "Are you in a guild?" He suddenly asked Damien, remembering his manners.

Before they had the chance to continue the conversation a mighty roar sounded from behind them. Hydra turned in mere split seconds to face whatever was near. "I thought this area was suppose to be safe?!" He thought to himself in an alarmed tone of voice. Perhaps they were still to far away from the lake itself to be entirely safe. Before the player's stood what appeared to be some sort of monstrosity on two hind legs. The easiest way Hydra could describe it was bear like yet this abomination was far from cute, red smears dripped from its mouth. "I hope that is cosmetic." Hydra mumbled to himself. It looked rather dangerous to say the least. "You think we can take it?" He turned to ask his new acquaintance.

Winter Monstrosity - 400/400 Health | 40 Damage

Monster Effect: Gorging Bite

Spoiler

On natural rolls of 9-10 this monstrosity performs its gorging bite which deals 10% of Maximum health x by the player(s) tier category (rounded up), bleed damage over 2 turns. For example, a player with 500 health would take 50x2 bleed damage totaling 100, as they fall into tier 2. This damage is cannot be mitigated, however, it does not stack if the effect triggers again.

At the sound of @Hydra's question about him being in a guild, Damien's head turned towards the ground, his smile fading slightly. Before Damien would need to respond, though, the sound of a mighty roar came from behind him. Whew, that should save me from having to answer the question. But WHAT THE LIVING HECK IS A MONSTER DOING IN THIS AREA!!?!! "I thought so too! Apparently not." Damien took a quick look over the creature. Well this could be a bit difficult.. I know if I attack it, it will turn it's attention on me... But... I wonder what level Hydra is? It would be rude of me to ask him to attack the first hit though.... Damien pulled out his black and white blade, the <<Nighthawk>>, and turned to Hydra. He wanted to ask what level the player was, but he couldn't. . "Oh yeah! We can take this. " Damien spat at the ground, and simply waited for Hydra to strike the first blow. Hopefully me waiting for him doesn't seem awkward, but I- I- No. No. I gotta kill it. I have no idea how strong this other player is, so I can't assume he'll be able to kill it. Damien held up his blade, activating his sword skill, Snake Bite. Angerily, he ran at the monster, but as running he managed to get his foot on a rock, falling to the ground in his face and his blade falling to the side. "Oof." Why do I gotta go out and make such a fool of myself???

(OOC: No worries :3)

Damien went in first, only moments later to trip over something. Hydra laughed awkwardly as he moved over himself to help the player up. The covering of snow was thick so it was very easy for one to stumble as everything was masked by in a blanket of white. Once Damien was back up, Hydra refocused his attention of the monster. Its behavior was certainly bestial, it seemed to be sizing the players up whilst performing 'fake charges', the spearman couldn't quite gauge when it would actually attack. "Guess I will strike first then." He mumbled. As he always did, Hydra proceeded to enter a crouched stance and readied his charge skill. It took a moment but after a quick breath of air, he moved swiftly and silently between the snow. He wasn't sure which was more chilling, the beast itself or the fact there were no cries of pain. Just his spear ripping into its virtual flesh twelve times over accompanied by nothing except a dead silence. Finally finalizing, Hydra paced backward avoiding a monstrous hand that attempted to swipe at him.

Damien leaned down to pick up his sword, and simply watched @Hydra land several beautiful hits on the <<Winter Monstrosity>>. Jeez, I cannot do that again. I cannot believe how much of an idiot I must look like right now. The black and white sword <<Nighthawk>> had a shadow of it's own in the dark night, cast by the moon itself. Damien took a tighter grip of the sword and turned to Hydra as he finished the last of hits and the monster's hand came flying at him, finding the perfect time to go in. "Switch me!" Damien ran in as Hydra backed up to avoid the arm, his sword shining a light green color as he activated his Snake Bite skill. I won't let you kill anyone! Not anymore! We will kill you!!!! But as Damien found, this was not the case. His sword thrusted froward in the sword skills action, but the hit was not able to meet its mark. Quickly, Damien made his way out of the creatures attack range. Dang!

"Keep going at him, we will eventually get him." Hydra shouted across to Damien, with the various movements of the combatants, the <<winter monstrosity>> had now placed itself between the two players. At the very least this thing was focused on him, as Damien retreated to perform another strike, Hydra made his own move. Like earlier the snow masked many boulders and stones underfoot and the spearman went tumbling forward into the snow. At the very least the fall had meant him dodging the opponent's claw attack, its hand sweeping in the thin air above him. "Dammit sorry." Hydra mumbled, not that Damien would be able to hear it. He didn't know his friends level but by the looks of things he seemed to be skilled enough to activate some powerful looking sword arts, he just needed a good opening now to strike the beast. Hopefully Hydra's tumble would have done enough to create that, in any case they had the upper hand.

And Damien did indeed hope that was the opening he needed to strike on the boss. @Hydra Went falling, tripping on a rock as Damien had previously done. But, it seemed to make it so Hydra could evade the monsters attack so Damien wasn't going to complain. "You alright?" Damien yelled over to Hydra. Quickly he turned his head back to the monster after checking on Hydra, gripping his sword tight as he had before while the thing's attention was still on Hydra. Damien leaned backwards slightly, yelled "You're mine!" ,and sprinted in a very fast movement at the monster. Leaping up when reaching a position where he could fight the monster, Damien activated his Snake Bite sword skill once more, thrusting his sword forward in three sets.

But it was, once again, just not good enough. The hits could not land their targets, and Damien felt himself fall back onto the snowy ground. Quickly he escaped combat range so he could prepare the sword skill again, hoping Hydra could make up for the time.

By the time Hydra had regathered himself, it appeared he was a little too late. The boss now directly in his face, he winced before raising his arm to strike it in the face. His sword art cut deep, but he knew from his earlier damage it wouldn't be enough to slay the <<monstrosity>>, as he drew back his spear the beast now struck him in his vulnerable position. Hydra had feared what could happen, and now it was happening, it clenched its jaws around his left arm and proceeded to completely rip apart the bottom half, causing it to shatter into crystals, it was incredibly painful but the spearman had no time to cry out. With what strength he could he pulled the remaining part of his arm out of the creature's mouth, transferring his weapon to his less-dominant right hand in the process. Then stumbling backward he clenched the bleeding wound, it appeared not all damage had been inflicted yet. With time Hydra knew it would generate. "I'm good..." He managed to mumble in a weak tone and with a smile, although his face clearly twisted in pain.

Watching the monster deal an incredible hit and biting a part of Hydra's arm off, Damien felt terrible as he knew there was nothing he could've done to help him. Damn! Damien quickly sprinted towards the monster, that was know almost dead (in the red zone) from Hydra's amazing hit, with thoughts running through his head. Even with his low amount of damage he was able to deal, he wasn't going to let any more monsters kill any 'friends' of his, even though Hydra and him had just met this day. This has got to hit... Come on! I can't let you kill anyone else! Upon arriving closer to the monster, he gripped is <<Nighthawk>> and went to thrust the sword forward in three quick hits. "DIE!" But as he activated his Snake Bite skill once again, he found once more that his thunder ring which brought accuracy was not going to help him land a hit. Falling to the ground, Damien quickly got back up, many emotions running through him.

Hydra fumbled around with his spear, he rarely practiced training with his right hand so despite the quick change the whole ordeal of it felt awkward. His health bar continued to drain eventually coming to a stop at what roughly seemed to be around two-thirds of his health. "I should be more careful next time." He glanced towards Damien, it seemed the other player was struggling to land a hit, Hydra had been there before, he most likely would now if he didn't have accuracy. Still, he realized the player had the skill, with the right conditioning the spearman knew Damien would be able to get a hit. Stumbling forward the brunette ducked to one side avoiding another swing attack, then cutting underneath he jabbed the beast in its throat three times over. It seemed to work but the damage wasn't enough to finish it, with Hydra's left arm partly severed he couldn't perform his stronger sword arts.

+1 Material. Will be updated at end of RP.

Damien became slightly fearful as Hydra's health slowly dropped into the orange zone from that one hit, but finally came to a stop and Damien gave a sigh of relief. He knew, though, that this fight was not over yet. He was going to need to kill it at all costs, at any cost. He couldn't risk anything. After Hydra's hit, it left the beast with a tiny sliver of health left, and the beast was left unable to move. Here's my chance, cannot miss this time! Damien ran back at the beast, going into the combat zone for the fourth time or so, knowing he could not miss. If Hydra got hit again, there was a potential threat that it could be fatal with what the last bite did to him. He's much stronger than me, but... He could still end up relying on me for this one hit. This one hit.... Damien closed his eyes for a few seconds as he thought and pulled his sword back, as if everything around him was in slow motion to him. Quickly, his mind was back in the battle, his eyes open, everything back in motion as he thrust his green glowing sword forward not only once but twice, and finally a third time. This time, the hits did land as the beast fell back, disappearing into millions of crystals. Damien fell to the ground, panting a little bit as the loot screen showed up. He closed out of it, seeing as he had only gained a material and quite a bit of EXP. He quickly turned his attention to Hydra. "You... Alright?" Damien slowly got up and walked over to him. He felt bad due to not having taken any of the damage or dealing any damage whatsoever. "I... Umm... received a material, if you want it."
