[sP-F3] New Armour | Quest: <<Worn Out Welcome>>

Recommended Posts

Soredell was taking a stroll on the third floor, doing his usual thing, trying to level up, and just generally getting his ass up to the front lines. Getting to the front lines was his first and only priority. At least from there, he could actually make some progress in helping the other high level players and guilds to actually beat the game. He's heard the stories, he knows of the players risking everything to push forward, and come hell or high water, he was going to get up with the rest of them, and beat this game. To do that, get more experience, level up, and do more quests, like any other RPG.

As he was walking around, Soredell got a notification of a quest that was available, nearby as well, which made things easier for him. "A new mission huh? Sweet, I could use this as a chance to level up. Lets see here... <<Worn Out Welcome>> huh? I wonder what the reward is... whoa, armour? That could really help me out. And besides, I can't go asking people for free amour like my sword. Well, better head off." he says, now heading off in search of this quest.

After spending quite some time wandering around the town, before eventually he does find the armour shop where players can get the quest. "Well, this looks like the place." he says, taking a deep breath before walking inside. He walks inside, and he immediately takes note of his surroundings. It looks like any other armoursmith, different sets of armour all over the shop. At the back of the shop is a bench for making transactions, and behind the bench are a couple. This must be the couple of NPC's that the quest was talking about.

"Well, I guess you are Griswold and Hanna? You two run this shop correct?" he calls out to the two of them from across the shop, as he approaches the two. The man looks up with a frown on his face. "Oy mate, if ya want to talk, ya outta come closer!" he yells back at Soredell, before being hushed by the woman, Hanna. "Honey, shush! You don't need to be so rude to our customers. My apologies for my husband traveler, he may seem tough, but he really is quite sweet." she says, Griswold muttering something under his breath. "Uh, that's quite alright. I just wanted to talk to you about the armour you had available in the quest." he replies, pulling out a pretty decent drawing of the idea of the kind of armour he wanted.

"Hmm, quite complex armour here. But it can be done, for the right materials of course." Griswold says, looking at the image. "Wait, materials? Not Col?" he asks, confused. "Does it sound like I stuttered?" he says sharply. "Honey thats enough." Hanna says, before turning to Soredell. "Yes, we make armour for adventurers like yourself, but instead of asking for Col, we ask for the materials. You bring it to us, and we make the armour for you. Does that sound good dear?" she asks. "Yeah, that seems fair. So what materials will I need?" he asks, just as Griswold slids him another piece of paper. "There. On that paper is a list of materials ya need to bring me for the armour. Some of that is guarded by a nasty dark elf, so ya need to kill it first. Its also a little while away from here, so ya need to travel to the dark elf before killing it. Sound easy enough?" he asks, slightly harshly. "Yes sir." Soredell says in reply. "Good, now, head off, ya got work to do, as do I, and we ain't gonna get that done messing around here." he says. "Best of luck adventurer." Hanna says, Soredell waving the two goodbye as he heads off.

Soredell walks out of the armoursmith's building, now searching for wherever this dark elf thing is supposed to be, so he can kill it, get the mats he needs, get back, and get new armour. Simple right? Well it would be if he could find the dark elf. Looking for the dark elf outside of the city didn't yield any results. *sigh* "Well, looks like I'm gonna have to go even further out." he says to himself, walking away from the city outskirts.

After some more searching, he eventually finds himself at the entrance of a forest. "Well, this is familiar isn't it?" he says to himself as he walks inside. "Maybe I'll find this dark elf in here, maybe." he says to himself as he continues to walk into the forest, the area around him growing darker, shadows growing longer, as he walks deeper into the forest. Should be simple enough right?

Soredell continues searching through the woods, but unfortunately for him, he can't seem to find any dark elf here. It would make sense for it to be here, considering how its a lot darker in here thanks to the tree cover and how thick the forest is, but so far, he can't find anything at all. "Just my luck. Of course I can't find this dark elf. This game does not want me to succeed does it?" he says to himself, plopping down onto a nearby fallen tree log, defeated for now. Continuing to look would be fruitless without a break every once in a while.

As Soredell rests on the log, he pulls out the note that Griswold gave him. The list of the materials that he needs for the armour. "Alright Griswold, just what did you send me out here to get huh?" he says to himself as he reads through the note. "Lets see here... By the looks of this, Griswold wants <<Dark Cloth>> and <<Spare Metal>> for the armour. According to Griswold, if I found the dark elf, I'd find the mats I need. That sounds fair." he says, getting up once again, ready to continue his search.

Soredell continues his search of the woods for the elusive dark elf, in possession of the mats that he needs to get his armour. Even after all of this searching, he turns up empty handed. "This wouldn't be a quest if it didn't have its own share of trials and tribulations now would it...?" he mutters bitterly. He'd spent too long on these quests looking for the simplest things, whether it be Wildflower Roots or a Dark Elf, or even a way out of a settlement. At this rate, he'd never get to the frontlines, and that was unacceptable.

Just as Soredell is about to abandon this fools search in the forest, and look elsewhere, or even ask Griswold and Hanna where to find it, he heard a dull, but still sharp SNAP! of something. Looking to where he heard the noise, he saw a dark elf in an opening nearby. "There you are..." he mutters to himself as he slowly inches forward towards the dark elf, wanting the element of surprise to remain at his side.

Soredell continues to silently creep towards the clearing, where he eyes his target, a lone dark elf. Soredell had the element of surprise on his side, and he didn't need to ruin that now. So, he continued to slowly and silently make his way towards the clearing. Eventually he gets to the edge of the clearing, the dark elf right there in front of him, just begging him to attack. Soredell quickly scans the rest of the clearing to see if this dark elf has any buddies nearby. Thankfully for him, there are none. Now's the time to strike.

Unfortunately for Sam, as he surged forward, he stepped on a fallen tree branch, emitting a sharp snap as he charges forward. So much for the element of surprise. It gives enough time for the elf to dodge out of the way, as Soredell's swing goes wide. Once out of the way, the Dark Elf pulls out its own weapon, a dagger, while staring down this intruder.

Soredell clutches his shoulder in pain, right over the spot where he had been stabbed. He needed to be careful and end this quickly. Any more screwing around would mean the death of Soredell, quite literally. Even though these injuries his avatar would take had no effect on his body in the real world, that still didn't mean it didn't hurt as if he'd actually been stabbed.

Soredell was hurting all over. Those two dagger attacks alone had brought him to two thirds of his total health. That was never a good thing, especially in a death game like this. Death was not something he needed. Not today, not until this game was finished, and he beat it. With fury and anger coursing through his body, he charged at the Dark Elf once again, seemingly mocking him

Jade Dragon was still stuck inside the Dark Elf, but it didn't mean it was down, god no. The Dark Elf tries to stab Soredell once again with the dagger, but Soredell kicks the Dark Elf, pushing it off his blade, its own attack just missing him. "Looks like I picked up some tricks huh?" he says, clearly please how the tables have turned.

Soredell readies his stance, not having the chance to properly do so before. After doing so, he notices how tired he's getting. "HP still at two thirds, lets keep it that way, energy is at about half by now. Only able to make one or two more attacks. Lets make them count." he says, taking another slash at the Dark Elf.

He didn't need to spend anymore time fighting this thing than he needed to.

Soredell makes yet another slash at the Dark Elf, hoping to take it down once and for all. This time though, instead of landing a hit, the Dark Elf manages to dodge out of the way just in time. Looks like the Dark Elf is beginning to predict Soredell's attacks, which meant that this battle was just going to last a lot longer than it needed to.

Soredell is still panting from the exhaustion, but keeps his guard up. At least he can use this moment of levity to regain just a bit of energy for one last attack. "I gotta kill this thing, and soon, before it kills me." he says, taking a deep breath, steeling his nerves, and calming himself, before charging the dark elf once again, for the last time.

Soredell's last attack strikes true, a large slash appearing across the dark elf's body. With that, the Dark Elf goes flying from the force of the attack, right into a tree. Right before it impacts the tree, it explodes into a cloud of pixels, but not before leaving a parting gift, a dagger in Soredell's shoulder. As soon as the dark elf dies, the dagger disappears, but the damage is done. Soredell collapses to one knee, panting for breath. Its all over now at least...

Soredell continues to try and catch his breath after that fight. He continues to kneel in the clearing of the forest, grass all around him. Although he isn't dead or dying, he is injured, and pretty badly too. Unfortunately for Soredell, his exhaustion completely overtakes him, causing him to collapse on the ground. *pant* *pant* *pant* "Damn you Kayaba, damn you and your death game." he mutters bitterly under his breath, as he lies on his side, slowly trying to recover from the fight. He watches as his HP gauge slowly, but surely begins to climb back up. He knows that the process of recovering HP naturally will take some time to do. All he can really do at the moment is rest, and wait. And that is exactly what he does, lie in the grass, rest and wait. To him, it seems like an eternity is passing, watching that HP gauge climb back up. He could drink a health potion and shortcut that process, but it was best that he saved those potions for a rainy day. So even though he has a choice, Soredell chooses to just... wait.

Soredell continues to lie in the grass, his back to the ground, facing the mid-afternoon sky of Floor 3 on Aincrad. As he continues to lie there, he notices that he is regaining some of that lost HP from his previous fight against the dark elf. 'That's good at least. That way I don't have to use up a health potion just yet.' he dimly thinks to himself, as he continues to look up. It isn't too long until the Cardinal System registers that Soredell has beaten the dark elf, and it displays a message just above Soredell's head facing him, just what he got from the whole ordeal. It's the standard stuff, experience points, Col, all that. But down below that, is a list of a material, highlighted in gold, representing this was material needed in a quest, a fetch quest. It only took one guess to know which quest. Looking at exactly what he got, he finds that he has been gifted with enough <<Dark Cloth>> material that Griswold wanted. That's good at least.

Soredell continues lying in the grass, resting himself. This time however, he's propped himself up against a nearby tree. He searches through his inventory, eventually finding the <<Dark Cloth>> that he dropped. The material materialized in his hands, and he studied it. It felt somewhat coarse, but also a bit thick. Surely this would at least defend him for the next time he found himself in a combat encounter. Who would've thought? All that hard work, all that pain just for a simple piece of cloth. At least he didn't have to fight any more dark elves to get enough of this stuff, because he wasn't quite sure if he could do that again, not in this state at least. 'All that work, all that fighting and pain for a simple piece of cloth. You really do make me work for things don't you Kayaba?' he thinks to himself, looking up once again into the sky. "Just a little more rest, then I'll start looking for that other material." he says to himself, continuing to watch the HP gauge climb.

Soredell continues to rest and recover, watching his HP bar slowly climb up, resting against the tree. His breathing has steadied now at least, and he isn't panting like before. Suddenly, a thought occurs to him. 'Is there someone watching me while I'm injured?' he thinks to himself. He quickly gets up, the action leaving him sore from him still needing to recover. "Oww, that's gonna hurt for a little while..." he mutters to himself as he looks around the vicinity of the clearing. From his initial look around, it doesn't look like there are any dark elf reinforcements yet. That's good. But Soredell's main problem is whether or not there are other players nearby. Too bad there wasn't a system to see if there were players nearby. You couldn't even see their names if you were looking like them, like most MMO's. Only way for you to tell is by someone telling you, or by joining a party with someone else. At least, there wasn't any players nearby, none that he could see at least, which gave him a bit of relief. "Alright, enough resting, I need to look for those last materials." Soredell says to himself as he prepares his search.

Before he can leave the clearing and go back to Griswold and Hanna in town, Soredell needs to find some <<Scrap Metal>> materials for the quest. "Surely there will be some somewhere here at least. They wouldn't make finding some metal so hard right?" he says to himself. With that, he begins a quick look around the camp site. The camp site is pretty bare bones for a dark elf. Three tents surround a campfire, which is already burnt out. All three tents have a small sleeping bag kind of thing inside it, and little else of importance, at a first glance at least. There is a fourth, larger tent. Inside is boxes on top of boxes, likely containing supplies for something. Away from the initial camp is little else, a few smaller boxes sticking out of the grass here and there, but nothing else of importance. From Soredell's initial walk around of the camp, he doesn't see any metal lying around. "Well, looks like I gotta dig a little deeper." he says, preparing for a more thorough search.

First things first was to look in the harder areas first, and then work towards the easier areas. The harder area's in question would be the area directly outside the campsite, in the clearing. There were a few boxes scattered around here and there, surely there would be something of use in there, right? Soredell began searching through all of the crates, hoping to find any metal. Turns out, there weren't. All that were inside the crates were a bunch of random supplies that he couldn't tell what it was for the life of him. "If it isn't in the crates, maybe they dropped it in the grass?" Soredell says, beginning to look around. Soredell walks through the grass meticulously, searching through every square meter (or foot, whatever measuring system they use in this game) for any signs of metal. Unfortunately for Soredell, his efforts are fruitless, leaving him to continue searching.

Well then. If there wasn't any metal to be found in the vicinity of the camp, the next obvious solution would be to properly investigate the campsite itself, instead of just giving a quick scan of the area. With that, Soredell makes his way over to the campsite where the dark elves staying at for god, or rather, Kayaba knows how long. First step is to look around the fire place. The fire place itself is pretty simple in nature. A bunch of stones arranged in a sort of, but not really circle, with a sizeable hole inside the circle of stones. In the pit is a pile of ashes and a few remains of wood long burnt away. No burning cinders, no smoke, nothing. Just a pile of ash, waiting to be tossed out to give way to new wood, or remain as is if the other dark elves fail to return. That last thought brought back a sense of urgency in Soredell. He couldn't screw around looking at a fire pit, he needed to look around for metal. Unfortunately for Soredell, he can't seem to find any metal. This may take a while.

Searching the clearing, along with the fire pit for any scrap metal proved to be a pointless endeavor. So the next step in the search for any metal would be in the tents, where the dark elves most likely rested, if they even rested at all that is. Soredell assesses his 4 options on where to search next. After some deliberationm he eventually picked one of the smaller tents where one of the dark elves sleeps, rests, whatever. Getting on his hands and knees, he crawled into the small tent. Inside was nothing more than a sleeping bag of some kind, a small lamp for whatever reason, and a small chest for storing basic goods, or whatever dark elves kept on their bodies. Soredell searched around the inside of the tent, looking along the ground and even inside the sleeping bag for anything. Nothing turned up from his search. Finally, he looked inside the chest, which was opened, thank god, and to his delight, he found himself a piece of <<Scrap Metal>>"Sweet, that's one down... huh, how many more do I need?" he says to himself, looking at the piece of parchment Griswold gave him. "3 pieces of <<Scrap Metal>>, 1 piece of <<Dark Cloth>>... Sounds easy enough. Just two more then I'm done." he says, satisfied with his search of the first tent.

Soredell had finished searching the first tent, having found a piece of <<Scrap Metal>> from the first tent. There were still three other tents that needed to be searched for metal. So, Soredell then crawled out of the first tent, and into the second one. This tent was very similar to the previous tent that he was in, if not exactly the same.  Inside the tent was nothing more than a sleeping bag, a small lamp, and a small chest for storing basic goods. Nothing too special about it, exactly the same as the last tent. If anything, it was just a basic copy paste of assets and models, because god forbid asset/model creators in video games have even a tiny bit of variety in the stuff they make. Now wasn't the time to be complaining about recurring assets and models, now was the time to search through the tent for metal. Soredell goes through the same process as before, but this time, his efforts fall short, Soredell failing to acquire any metal. Disappointed, Soredell begins crawling out, intending on checking the next tent.
