[SP-F1] Sword(fish)land? <<The Fourth Lesson is Actually Free>> (COMPLETE)

Recommended Posts

"Watcha say? Will you do it?"

"Of course. I can deliver the package to Pete." Damien looked at Hannah and accepted the package from her. "Awesome! Thank you so much!"

And with that, Damien was leaving the tree where Hannah was hanging out at and was headed to the place of fishing with this ole' Pete guy. I really hope I'm not gonna end up having to fish, because I can't fish very well worth anything. Besides I don't like fish anyways, just like to look at them rather than eat them. Damien continued to walk through the town of beginnings, watching his map on the heads up display menu as he searched for Pete. Pete was located at a rather large lake, just outside the town of beginnings, as it appeared. Well obviously. He is a fisherman, so where else could I expect him to be? Let's just hope I don't have to go fishing.

Damien continued on walking till he made it to one of the gates of the Town of Beginnings. Okie dokie, here we go. Gripping his sword, Damien continued to walk out, following a yellow path that should lead to the lake where Pete would be found, probably fishing as that was his profession. Eh, I probably will end up fishing. It's not like it is a big deal or anything, but eh. Damien sang a little song in his head as he whistled to the tune while walking. Man, I really need to buy some recording crystals so I can actually hear these songs. I'll probably check into that later. Would make these walks so much less boring. Damien continued to walk down the path, thinking about several things. Then his mind reverted back to skill points. I have six right now, and this quest will probably give me about three or so....

I quite honestly have no idea what I am going to do with my six current points. I could insert them into a new ranked skill, save for an unranked skill, or save and then insert them into either of the two skills I already have, one handed straight sword or battle healing. Damien ran through the possibilities of the skills he could put them in, as he ran down the skill list in his menu, considering the benefits of each one. Damien eventually decided that in fact he would end up waiting/saving before inserting the skills in anything. Besides, it wasn't like it was going to take him much longer to get more due to the simplicity of these quests and the large amount of skill points they grant surprisingly. These quests are amazing. Damien continued on the yellow path, still scrolling down his menu and analyzing the possibilities.

Parry seemed like an interesting skill to him, but he was going to have to wait till the higher floors due to the fact that it wouldn't be very effective or needed at all with where he currently was. Damien closed his menu and looked up as he began to come close to the lake. The sun was beginning to set, the reflection appearing beautifully on the lake. That looks amazing! Creatures could be seen flying in the distance, and the clouds had in interesting orange tint to them from the shadow of the sun. Woah. Damien figured he couldn't waste too much time looking at the scenery as he had a quest to complete, and he would prefer to do that before night because Damien had no idea what creatures would come out at that time of day in the area, hopefully not any more stronger than the everyday usual mobs.

"Hello, Pete?" Damien saw a lone NPC sitting on a dock, looking at his boat. Apparently, he did not hear Damien. "Excuse me, sir, but are you Pete?" The NPC still didn't respond and continued to stare at the boat, but as soon as Damien was about to say something again ten seconds or so later, the NPC spoke before he could. "Yes, yes I am." The NPC continued to stare down at the boat before finally looking up at Damien. "Ummm.... Yes, I have a package for you, Pete." Damien pulled out the parcel from Hannah and handed it to Pete. "Oh, could this be the order?" Damien watched as Pete opened the box, pulling out a fishing pole that seemed to have the capability of reeling in stronger fish. "Oh, yes it is the order! Thank you young man." Damien hadn't really heard himself be called by the term 'young man' in the game before, but it didn't really bother him.

"It was no problem, sir." Damien smiled politely at the NPC"But now that you are here, could I get you help with something on another manner?" Damien figured this was going to be Pete asking him to help him fish or something, so he didn't really mind too much. "Sure, why not?" "Okie dokie. I need some help trying to reel in a rather large sword fish. My body isn't near as strong as what my young body used to be, lad. In many ways I miss my younger body, especially while fishing. But do you think you would be able to help me reel in the sword fish and catch it, kiddo?" Damien looked at him at the sound of kiddo. Seriously? I'm seventeen. Am I gonna have to deal with him saying this the whole time? Oh well. "No problem, I can help with that." Damien smiled a bit at Pete.

Damien watched as Pete the NPC fisherman unhooked his rusted boat and got it set up to head into the lake. "We are going to take this ole' vessel out for a spin, to find the fish." Pete gave a little smile to Damien after saying it, before turning back to the boat and making sure it was prepared properly for the trip into the lake. Within a reasonable amount of time, the boat was indeed ready to go out into the rather dirty water. "Are you ready to go," asked Pete to Damien. "We are going to head out into the lake with the fishing pole and you are going to help me catch the sword fish we talked about! Of course, I'll have something to give to you, so your efforts do not seem entirely wasted on catching the fish." "As long a you are ready to go, so am I. "

"Let us go catch a sword fish!" Pete boomed loudly across the lake, in which Damien thought most definitely would have scared some of the fish half to death. Luckily, there were no other players or NPC's around to hear them. "Yeah!" Damien cheered enthusiastically as they started to head out into the lake in the boat, with Pete paddling slowly. Eventually, they made it to a location in which Pete thought it would be a good spot to search for the fish. He stopped paddling to pull out the fishing pool and handed to Damien. "It's a rather rare fish, but I usually find it out here in this area. Just am never able to actually catch it is the problem. And that is why you are here. Go on, go ahead and cast it out. I already put a worm on it and all." Damien swung back the pool before throwing it into the air.

The hook and worm landed not too far in the water. "Good. Now just wait, wait patiently." Taking the NPC's advice, Damien did indeed wait patiently. He simply sat there, waiting for anything to tug at the pole, as he stared up at the beautiful scenic view at which was around them. The beautiful sun, the croaking frogs on the side of the lake, the sun's reflection on the lake, the orange tint on the white/gray/slightly-blue clouds, creatures flying around, fish popping in and out of the lake, and the cricket noises from all around. in the forest that began next to the lake, sounds of all sorts could be heard. Occasionally, Damien and Pete could hear loud howls from inside of the forest. There must've been players fighting monsters in the forest, from the sound of the cries/howls it sounded like they were coming from some sort of wolf.

It was not as long as the two of them thought it would take before Damien felt something tugging on the pole. "It's here! Try your best to pull it in!" I gotta get this thing pulled in, I've got to reel this fish in! Pete began to paddle boat strength-fully towards the dock. "If you can't get it up on to the boat, attempt to swing it up onto the dock so it will be much easier to kill!" Damien managed to swing the sword fish up onto the dock, where Damien would then drop the pole and pull out his <<Nighthawk>>. "Now there is a big fish!" Damien hopped onto the dock and ran at the sword fish, but upon coming into close range, the sword fish managed to land a large  damage attack right into Damien's chest, throwing him back onto the boat right in front of Pete as he watched his health bar deplete. Damn!

Damien quickly hopped out of the boat and was back on the dock, with Pete cheering him on. "You got this!" "Time to die!" Swiftly, Damien activated his Snake Bite sword skill, dealing a great deal of damage to the sword fish's health bar, and sending it flopping a bit back. Damien looked back at his own health bar, noticing how low it was from the sword fish's last hit. Shoot. hopefully its next one isn't as strong. Otherwise, I may be in danger here. But no, I can end this beforehand. Damien prepared his sword skill Snake Bite once again as he attempted to attack the sword fish once more, the very old time arcade game Mortal Kombat theme song running through his head as he attack, exclaiming Damien to 'finish him'. "Die!" Damien swung his sword at the sword fish thrusting it forward once, twice, and then a final third time.

  • 2 weeks later...

The thrusts sent the sword fish backwards quite a bit, flopping as it went. Damien was well on the dock when the sword fish went for another thrust-like attack on Damien, who himself made a small effort to avoid the hit, but did not waste any energy with it as he could see how weak the hit would be beforehand. The fish's hit on Damien sent him stepping back with one of his feet, but it only came to help Damien as he prepared with his blade the sword skill Snake Bite once again. "You fighting me? Big mistake." Damien charged at the sword fish again, which had already flopped it's way away from Damien after attacking with it's last hit. The sword striked three critical hits against the swordfish while activating the sword skill, but before Damien could back up it took its chance to flop back at him, dealing minimal damage that would soon be healed right back up from his battle healing skill.

Damien looked at the fish and prepared his sword again, this time only going for a basic strike as he knew that was all that would be necessary to finish it off, witnessing as the swordfish's health bar fell under into the red zone. "Time to eat some fish!" He then ran at the fish, going in for a skyward-aimed attack from the right, but the fish was able to skip too quickly over to the left, flopping just barely out of the blade's range for the attack, as Damien went through the attack all the same. The fish took the opportunity to leap at Damien, thrusting the sword it held in front of it towards Damien as it flopped up. Damien quickly moved out of the way, with minimal effort required in the dodge. Pfft. You do know... "Fish, you do know that none of the attacks you are attacking with are dealing absolutely zero damage, right?

Realizing his mistake in his grammar(the double negative), Damien continued on. "My battle healing skill is healing every bit of damage you are dealing, still not fully recovered from the first hit though." Damien felt kinda bad for the fish, but he was still trying to get used to how all of these things were really NPC's, not real animals. In the real world, Damien was a vegan and tried to eat as minimal amount of animal product as possible, although on occasion when with people he would eat meat. In this game, it had been a hard change for him(getting used to eating meat) but he was finally beginning to get it. Damien spun his sword around once, before coming to a stop and pointing at the fish. "But you, you are different. You only exist here to kill people, and do not have a..." Damien tried to think of what to say here.

"A... A mind of your own. " Damien finally came up with what he was trying to send out of his mouth. Clearing his throat with a loud noise, he prepared his sword while the sword fish continued to flop around. "I am not sorry for this. Now DIE!" Damien went for a basic skyward attack this time right through the middle, meaning it would not allow for the fish to escape from either the left or right side. As the sword went right through the fish, a large red scar on it, it flopped one last time before coming to a pause. Taking a deep and weird breath in, the fish then disappeared into millions of crystal shards as the loot screen appeared to Damien. Whew, that wasn't too hard. Damien smiled as he looked at the amount of experience points he had won. I'm just that good. I am feeling a but hungry now, but please anything besides fish.

Damien turned to the NPC and gave him the fish through his heads up display menu, as the two began to walk up to the dock. "Quite skilled in fighting, you are. That was an intense fight to watch!" Damien smiled and scratched his back, feeling like he was in an awkward situation. "Thanks, but I'm not really all that good. No where near as good as the front-liners that are way up there in the floors. What are they up to now? I think they are on, like, floor twenty maybe?" Damien gave a slight sigh. "Although, I hope I can make it up there some day. Eventually, I can help people make it out of this game." But who am I kidding, this is just an NPC. How can I expect him to understand. "Ahhh, I see. But with the skills you have improved on for yourself, if you just keep improving, you shall be there in no time!"

The NPC fisherman gave a smile and a laugh. "Stop putting yourself down, kid. It's not going to help." The two, both Damien and the fisherman, walked until they made up to the cabin-like place. The NPC walked in to the cabin, opening the door for Damien. "Thanks." They walked in, the fisherman going further in and walked over to the counter. "I know what will brighten your spirits! For your hard-work and effort, I have something for you." The NPC went through the kitchen and finally appeared with a fish, sending it to Damien via a trade menu in the inventory. "This is strong fish! It has shown to have benefits to players when eaten before heading in to battle!" Oh great, fish. Well I guess the benefits it provides cannot be ignored, though. Might help me out quite a bit at some point in time or another, I hope.

Damien smiled. "Thanks, Pete. I appreciate it. This fish shall really come in handy at some point." Or so I hope. "No problem! I'm just glad I could be of such assistance to player like you." The NPC smiled at Damien. "Well, unless you need anything from me, I think I'll be heading off on my way. " Damien said after chatting to the NPC for a while, walking to the door. "Oh, and, by the way. Nice lake. I like it out here, is a pretty awesome location and seems like it would make a great place to take a breather and wind-down/relax for a while. So thanks for letting me stop by." And with that, Damien was out of the door and walking back to the Town of Beginnings for the night. It had been a long four quest day for Damien. Eh, I can rest when I'm dead.

The sun was even further down now, the sky beginning to be filled by a dark and light purple color at the same time, as stars took shape. A small moon could be seen in the distant sky. The beauty of this game. Flying creatures could be seen far above, minding their own business as they flied alone and in families. Damien could definitely relate to the creatures flying alone, even though they weren't real. Rejected from the majority of society. The creature had been rejected from the rest of it's kind, or else it had rejected the rest of it's kind itself and just wanted to get away from the rest of them. Either way, Damien felt a tad bit of sorrow. But who was he kidding? These creatures were just mindless droned NPC's meant to mess with the players' emotions, that's all. Nothing more, and a lot less to be honest.

As Damien walked, the scenery slowly turned dark as night began to fall upon the deep sky and horizon. The sun was no longer in view from the floor level of one on Aincrad, and it was time that most people would be headed to bed. But Damien didn't quite know what he was planning on doing. Head to an inn for the night? Stay out all night and fight weak mobs? It was not clear to him, but he knew he had to do something. He pulled up his heads up display menu and went to the quest board, finding several ones. One specific one popped out in Damien's eye, though. <<Long Live the Queen>>, it was called, and involved the fighting of bees and a not too strong <<Wasp Queen>> field boss that would end up giving Damien a weaker but decent at the same time item that could increase a weapons damage point by one for a battle.
