<Bitter Cold> Essence of Steel (PP-F4 Domarus)

Recommended Posts

Hidden stood on the fourth floor. This was her first trip here, but she needed to get something done. She could not complete her task alone though. She would require help from a man other than Sey, as the man was busy. She would hope to receive help from Domarus. As much as he was strange and dark to be around, he was not overall a horrible person to train with. She had earlier sent him a message to meet her on the fourth floor for the quest, and she had yet to receive a message back. This quest wouldhelp her in the long run as she got her fmailiar fully ready to use. "Oh where could that man be? I hate this floor, it is freezing!" This was her first time here, and she was not particularly enjoying it. She would prefer it to be warmer, espically with her "jacket" was just a cloak. The cloak was so light though, it had no insulation properties to it. 'I just really hope I can help as well with the quest. I don't particularly need to deal a ton of damage, but perhaps to not to just be carried or standing on the sideline. I have never be a sideline player.

Domarus was out of materials and it was really frustrating him.  Without Aereth he had no good material income and things have become rather slow.  What was really driving him crazy however was his inability to successfully find a worthy tank, or any tank for that matter who would work out.  Shield was a decent option however something told Domarus he should be cautious around him.  He needed more info on him.  Perhaps Aereth could assist in that area.  Gather information on the player, perhaps talk with him and figure out the player's motivation, tactics, and most importantly, what possible morals he had.  That was when Domarus had received a message from Hidden.  Another player he needed to sway over to his side fully.  She informed him that she needed his assistance with a quest.  A quest that Domarus had previously completed alongside Dominion.  A rather easy quest to handle.  The only reason Domarus had an issue was the fact that his accuracy was rather low at the time.  Domarus stood up.
"Keres, you want to have a little more fun with Hidden?"  Keres looked up and smiled, nodding to Domarus even as he had opened his inventory and equipped his Hopebreaker set.  This would be the first time (or so Domarus thought) Hidden would see the black armor he wore in combat.  The visor glowed red and his voice would now sound deeper than usual and metallic, adding to the intimidation factor.  With that he made his way over to the teleporter and warped to the fourth floor.  When he arrived he walked to the coordinates she sent, Keres dutifully behind her with her flaming snake curled around her torso, and Rhozarth resting on Domarus' shoulder piece.  When Hidden was in View Rhozarth gave out a deep cry to gain her attention, and when she turned Domarus would nod while Keres bowed.

Hidden sat quietly in wait. It was rather cold here and she was definitely not enjoying it. She looked around and got a good base of where everything was on this new floor. She was really not a big fan of this floor, but it was required if she was going to move along with finishing her dagger. Her dagger would make most jealous, but most had zero idea about it. Even Sey had little idea of its fullest capabilities. She seen something sticking out of the snow and she picked it up. As she bent down to pick it up she heard a shriking sound. she turned to find the noise had come from a familiar. Next to the familiar was the tall reed haired man that she knew. Domarus walked forward and he nodded as she met his gaze. Next to him, Keres bowed and her snake looked up at her with an interesting gaze. 'I still don't understand why she would have a burning familiar. It still does not suit her personality. Unless...' She thought quietly of that but kept it to herself. She waved, permitting Domarus to approach.

Not a sound came from the other player as she waved to the two players.  Normally she wasn't this silent but he knew she would talk eventually.  As they walked forward Keres smiled happily, as she enjoyed hanging out with other girls.  She liked Domarus but she didn't like all out boy company.  She had to admit that Mesto character was an interesting person.  Unfortunately for her, Domarus wasn't the least bit interested in what she was offering.  Keres wondered if Domarus would enjoy it if he actually experienced it.  The trick was getting him to that position where he would care.
"Greetings Hidden.  I'm glad to know you thought of me when in need of assistance for clearing a quest.  I'll gladly help you out."  Keres noticed how Hidden  seemed bothered by the floor.  Keres herself had her pain dampener off now that she figured out how to do it, and so she figured the cold would be a fun bit of entertainment for herself.  Hopefully the survival skill wouldn't keep her from enjoyment.  She signaled Porvós and the flaming snake slithered it's way down Keres and made it's way to Hidden, the snow melting instantly wherever he slithered.  Keres smiled to Hidden.
"He can keep you warm.  And don't worry, he's great at positioning himself so that you're comfortable and can move around freely.  He's had practice," she finished with a giggle.  If Hidden accepted the offer then Porvós would slither up her leg (or arm, whichever was made available) and around her torso in a way that was not perverted and allowed her to move freely.  Domarus saw something that he could use in this event.  If Porvós managed to get a glimpse of her face, then he could have the serpent react a certain way if they saw her without her hood on, though it was unlikely.  Regardless there was nothing that Domarus needed to be concerned about regardless if she chose to accept or decline.  Afterwards Domarus thought they should get to business.
"The boss is rather easy.  No mitigation and not much health.  It's damage is a bit strong, essentially a glass canon.  The only issue I had last time was my lack of accuracy.  That won't be the case this time however.  It's a little ways to get there though."

Hidden watched as Domarus came closer, accepting to help her. She looked over at the distant cold and snow. "I deeply appreciate the help. I am improving greatly in such short time. After this, my dagger will finally be of perfect quality and I then just need to head over to receive my own familiar" She unsheathed "Shadow's Bite" and examined it. This dagger was the first weapon she had ever used and she was proud of it. Soon, it would not be powerful enough to escort her through the game. She watched as the snake slithered from Keres onto the ground in front of her, melting the snow around it. Keres offered for the snake to help keep her warm but Hidden shook her head. "One way that people make themselves stronger, is to endure. I have not received the survival skill yet, so I must endure and learn to go on without it" She looked down on the creature, a bit sorry for disappointing it. She turned as Domarus began reviewing the bosses stats, what he recalled from his last encounter with it. "If it has no mitigation, perhaps I might be of assistance there. I can keep it damaged, as long as you go on and ensure that you keep the main focus on yourself."

Domarus listened to Hidden speak, mentioning how she intended to turn her weapon to maximum rank which Domarus wondered why it was a rare in the first place.  She then mentioned how she would seek out a familiar of her own after this quest was over.  Domarus didn't care what familiar he received so long as it was strong.  He was fortunate enough to have run into Rhozarth when he had.  Keres had found Porvós as an added bonus.  She had a silent relationship with her snake, but Domarus and Rhozarth's relationship was master and servant.  They both did what was needed and no more.

"Might I ask what enhancements it has?"  Keres listened as Hidden told her that she intended to survive the cold in order to grow stronger.  When she mentioned the survival skill Keres nodded.

"Yes it is a great skill to have.  I don't care for the environmental effects part personally, but I got over with it.  Come on Porvós.  By the way, what sort of familiar are you intending to get?"  At her call Porvós slithered back to Keres and began to climb up her leg and back to her torso and Hidden could hear the sound of Keres' skin burning at it's touch.  Keres however seemed to close her eyes and enjoy it and once Porvós was in place, the sensation was all but gone.  Domarus listened to Hidden and nodded.

"If that's the case let me strike it first to gain it's hate.  It would take me possibly two to three strikes to kill it, most likely two so unless you want me to use lower sword arts so you can get more than one hit on it, this will be over soon enough.  The boss's cave is in that direction.  Rhozarth scout for monsters and keep them off of us till we hit the boss."  Rhozarth nodded and took flight, a blazing trail being left behind it.

She walked on the trail forward and as she spoke of using her dagger, Domarus was himself. What enhancements does it have.... She should have known Domarus would ask her that. "Well, originally I was not going to tell you... but you are a well-respected friend." She took  a deep breath before answering, "It is a rare dagger with Phase and Paralytic Venom. I figured now a slot of bleed would help" She turned and heard Keres's opinion over the Survival skill. The woman then asked her what kind of familiar she was going to get. "I realy have no idea what kind of familiar I am going to get at this moment in time"  She nodded and turned away walking forward. After enough time passed, Domarus spoke again. Hidden paused her step and turned toward him. He told her that he should make the first move and gain the hate. She nodded and answered his questions. "You make the first move then. Go as hard as you physically can, I will tail in the second hit and you finish it with your third" She turned and readied her dagger. This would be one of the last time she would use it. She would use it as well as she could.

He listened to her as she mentioned how she was originally going to keep it a secret from him, but that he was a well respected friend to her.  This meant he was getting a stronger grip and this of course, pleased him.  Soon enough she'd trust him completely, and after the generals met he was certain she'd be fully prepared to take the mantle.  She told him about the enhancements she had and he looked at her, his visor glowing brighter for half a second.  Phase?  Paralytic venom?  Those he had heard about but knew little about them.  Unique enhancements.  This meant that either she had another merchant get them or she herself did.
"So did you pay a merchant to discover it?  Or are you yourself a merchant?"  He had long desired to get a unique enhancement on his gauntlets and shoulder pieces, and thus left one slot open for them.  This information was invaluable to Domarus.  Keres listened to Hidden's question and nodded.  She didn't even expect to get a familiar so Porvós was a wonderful surprise for her.  Hidden spoke to Domarus in agreement and he nodded, turning to their destination.  It wasn't far, in fact it was in sight now.

"Very well then.  Let's get destroy this boss.  This should be easy unless luck is against us."  They entered the cave and the snow beast came into view.  The furry creature was as pathetic as the last time Domarus fought it.  However this time, he was not nearly as inaccurate.  Domarus refused to fall to this weak boss or miss to it over and over again.  Not this time.  The creature roared and swung it's massive hand down at Domarus who stood perfectly still.  He was struck by the monster but didn't budge and simply laughed, his dark and metallic voice echoing through the cave.
"Is that all you got?"  He charged forward and released Screw Dimension, tearing it's health down farther than he originally believed it would.  He forgot how pathetic this boss truly was.

Hidden watched as Domarus's mind seemed to work furiously over the idea of her having such a dagger. He asked her id she was a merchant, or if she found one. She laughed darkly and answered "I complete my own work. I don't need side characters in my story. Just the main ones" She laughed and observed the cave they approached. Domarus gave his words of "Encouragement" before they moved in. He brought out his axe and stood there in the face of the best. The beast gave out a fearsome and deafening roar, defying the players that stood before it. Domarus appeared unimpressed as he stood in front of it, hefting his axe. The beast slashed Domarus with a slow blow that Hidden could have dodged, but Domarus withstood it. The creature appeared surprised as if to ask Why player not break? Domarus's voice challenged the creature and he made a series of blows the creatures body, bringing it straight into the red zone. She grimaced at Domarus's power.

"Alright then, leave the rest to me" She unsheathed her weapon and watched as it gave an orange gleam. Smirking at her weapon she faced the creature. Darting forward, her blade's glow began to become brighter. The creature slammed its paw one way, but she ad already moved to the next, moving in a blur. She leapt up quickly thrusting her weapon three times into the creature's body. With her last one, the creature gave way and burst into pixels. She sheathed her weapon with a smile. "That was far too easy"

'I complete my own work'.  Domarus was pleased to hear those words from Hidden.  That meant she was strong, possibly relentless in her work, refusing to have too much help.  And it would be very helpful as well to have that.  She was a dps but Domarus felt that she had far more potential than just dealing raw damage to monsters and bosses.  No, there was something else in there.  He detected something during their last visit on the tenth floor.  He watched as she told him to leave the rest to her and he nodded.  He backed up two steps and watched with eager and hungry eyes seeking the power that lay within her.  He saw the smirk she made, the orange gleam from her blade, every little detail.  The boss swung at her but she moved with speeds Domarus would not be able to achieve with his heavy armor.  She destroyed the boss with that one single attack, though Domarus had done most of the damage already.  At her comment Domarus chuckled.

"You're at the point where creatures like this, the weak ones that are easily destroyed, disinterest you.  These kind of monsters don't provide the satisfaction.  Of course you have more progress to make but.  It's clear to me know that you have power that exceeds the game."  He made his way over to her, Rhozarth on his shoulder and Keres catching up by his side.

"By the way, do you recall that question I asked you last time?  Do you have an answer or do you need more time to think?"

Hidden turned away from the man as he began to speak. She could not believe how far she came to trust the man. The first time they had met, everything told her to get away from him. Now, she was requesting his help and spending a few days with him as friends. She never had many friends, or perhaps they were not even friends. Acquaintances, or even allies. She was not sure what exactly they were.  The man spoke of they easier creatures no longer having satisfaction as they became stronger. Domarus spoke of her having power, exceeding the game. "I... I understand... but I don't know what it means." She did not know what he meant by power exceeding the game, or what even she would do with that power. She never would have thought of herself as having too much power. Especially with her one-handed dagger. The worst of the one handed weapons. The question he asked me last time. NO. Not that question, It has almost haunted me ever since we departed.' "I remember your question clearly. I don't have a clear answer yet. I still don't know what I want from this game... this world." So far, this game had given her Sey, and she was content with that for now.

He watched as the girl turned away from him, interested in what the cause of it was.  Her response to his first statement made him chuckle.  Of course she wouldn't understand.  She hadn't grown up with eyes that saw through the deception of the world.  He would however, if she proved loyal enough, teach her to see past the dark veil that led so many to ruin.  When she replied to his question however, her words gave away that she was struggling with it.  This of course very much pleased Domarus.  Just like Aereth she was quickly growing into the perfect general.  Aereth would be purged of his arrogance, which was shown when he insisted he would take on the group alone.  Once his arrogance was purged he'd be the perfect scout.  And Hidden...  Once she discovered her strength and calling she'd be the perfect dps.  He was still unsure of Dominion though.
"Of course Hidden.  Take your time, I was just checking.  As for what I meant, there's more to power than strength, stats and speed Hidden.  Oh far more ways to be powerful.  Your form of power is one that most would not think about, or just pass over.  It's what will inevitably lead to their downfall if they cross you.  However I don't think you've discovered it yet...  No I don't think you have.  I won't spoil it just yet, but know that your stronger than you make yourself believe."  Rhozarth flew overhead, keeping it's eyes out for materials.  Keres was also looking for materials but without much luck.  Domarus wondered how Hidden would take all this information.  For a player who wanted to hold an aura of mystery, she didn't know a lot about herself.  This gave him room to shape her, to grow her into a powerful, relentless, and devastating weapon of destruction.

Hidden stood in silence as Domarus spoke. He sounded as if he already knew her secret intentions or her goals, but that was impossible if she did not even know them. She was confused, but she felt that in time she would understand. To this man, she was something else, part of an even bigger picture that she had not come to understand. One thing she did understand, was that she had her own secrets and talents, but Domarus did as well. He was a man of bigger plots, every small move was a contribution to that cause. The real question was, what was the cause. "Your form of power is one that most would not think about, or just pass over.  It's what will inevitably lead to their downfall if they cross you." This confused her the most. "My form of power? I have none of this power that you speak of. I am working on gaining power, but I have no unique talents or abilities" She sighed. Another one of his mysteries.  I won't spoil it just yet, but know that your stronger than you make yourself believe." Oh well that was just reassuring now wasn't it? He acted as if she had this power that would destroy those in front of her, but she was just her.

Domarus chuckled for a while after she said that.  She has absolutely no clue what true power and strength is.  She's like the others, thinking only about the mechanics of the game rather than the big picture.  She thought that stats made you strong and that was all.  While this did indeed play a big part in it, it was only the tip of the iceberg in the sense of true power and strength.  Domarus knew better than anyone, and when the time came she would too.  He would teach her, train her.  If she ended up agreeing with his beliefs she might even be a successor though Domarus very highly doubted it.  Although it would make her life far more interesting and give her purpose both in here and in the real world, he doubted Hidden would agree with everything Domarus believed and strove for.

"Don't worry about it now Hidden.  The time will come.  Until then keep pondering that question of yours till you have your answer.  For now we can gather a few materials before heading back.  I desperately need some for my shop.  This one player won't stop placing orders and I have no materials to craft with.  Keres any luck?"  Keres looked up when he spoke and smiled.  She'd been searching for a material or two and she had spotted a diamond.  She held it up in the air, the sparkling gem shining brightly in the light and Domarus nodded.  He counted one material, nothing more.  He could care less what it was made of, so long as he had something to use.  Domarus looked up to see his familiar continue seeking out any possible material as well as Porvós.  He turned to Hidden.
"So now that you have the item to upgrade your dagger, what do you intend to work on next?  I plan on maxing out charge, then heavy armor till I get a particular mod, and finally max out battle healing.  After that I'll find another skill to work on."

Hidden watched as the man chuckled, as if she were just a small child, trying to do something that was not in their capabilities. She stood there frowning, but then the man began to speak, telling her that she would understand soon, and that she needed to continue to ponder her question. She shivered. 'That question has bugged me non-stop for the last week' Standing there  she nodded before he began to speak again, requesting her help for materials. She laughed and replied, "Have you forgotten so soon? My build is an Assassin build, high in damage and scouting skills with the addition of Sneak and Hide" She giggled and searched around, her eye catching on some gleaming items in the snow. "My build is just... incomplete" She handed the materials to the man, as all of them would go to him.

His next question came at a bit of surprise. "My dagger is complete, so next would be my familiar. I intend to finish all of the damage skills. I'll get Dagger complete, familiar, work Charge to about rank two or three. Then I will work on my next skill. Meditation, and the rest of the energy skills. I will be known as the Energist one day. Unlimited supply of it! That is far away though... I need to get my normal base damage as high as possible though"

Domarus laughed lightly when she told him she was an assassin build.  Domarus listened to her talk about the general idea of what skills she'd get.  He nodded slowly.  She knew the basic ones, but did she really think about all the skills she planned to take on?  Domarus only told her a small shard of his plans for his build.  To be honest he wondered if there would be a unique skill out there he could get his hands on.  If there was he wondered if he could use it, and what it would take to actually get it and acquire it to his skill sets.  He folded his arms and leaned against a massive tree as she mentioned how her build was incomplete.
"As are all player's builds who haven't reached tier two, let alone tier three.  I won't have mine completed even half way for a good long while now.  I made a mistake that I hope to correct at some point but in the meantime all I can do is continue forward."  He listened as she went into further detail of her journey down the dps path.  He listened and was given further confirmation that only strengthened his argument that she was the perfect DPS he could have chosen out of the many thousand players in Aincrad.  And the fact that she was thinking about increasing her energy while most players didn't think about it.  While the two talked, Keres continued to look out for any materials the two could use.  Unfortunately she couldn't come up with anything.
"Heh heh.  Well it's good to hear that you're considering the energy.  Most players tend to overlook it.  Although somehow I feel like a dagger user like you doesn't need to worry about energy as much.  I would suggest looking at all the skills that you might have a use for."

She searched in the snow, as they spoke, her gaze remained at the ground though even as they spoke. He assured her that most players did not complete their builds until tier two, and occasionally even tier three. She nodded and looked around more but still found nothing. After she mentioned energy skills however, Domarus told her that she did not need it as much with the dagger, but instead she could go fo something else. "I guess they really are not too important. But, after my build is complete, I will be moving over to get that one completed. It is a extra skill, so it will not take up a slot" She looked over to him, and noticed that he seemed to be having trouble finding things. This was a winter wonderland though, they should not just expect to run into a ton of material items just lying around.

"How do you plan on finishing your build then Domarus? Obviously, you seemed to focus on DPS, but what are the other skills you are going to invest into. I myself, am also going to get the Sneak and Hide skill and get the mod to get more damage. Charge and sneak attack will complement eachother well" She smiled as she though about it. She looked over to him, and noticed his armors gleam, probably producing heat. She thought of how nice that must be and waited for an answer.

He watched as she scoured the snow filled land for materials.  She was active and didn't like to sit still it seemed.  However he had no doubt that if she needed to she could remain still and silent for as long as she needed to.  She talked about how after her main skills were dealt with she could work on the extra skill meditation and work that to the maximum potential.  Domarus nodded as she explained this.
"Now that I can agree to.  To regenerate energy during combat as well as outside of it is extremely useful.  I plan on gaining ranks in it as well as other skills.  Battle healing is also on my agenda.  I'm not so sure about energist though.  It doesn't seem worth it, unless the cardinal system decides to give it a buff or mods.  Regardless my first goal is damage.  Everything else can wait."  While he spoke, Keres and the two familiars still continued to scour the land for any possible material the could find.  The more they looked however, the more disappointed they became.  Keres wanted to provide bountiful materials for Domarus but it seemed she would always come up empty handed.  Domarus then heard Hidden's next words.  He chuckled darkly under the helmet.
"Indeed I think they would.  And yes you are correct in guessing that I seek to gain dps skills.  Ferocity skill, charge, the mod from heavy armor.  After that however I intend to max out my heavy armor skill for the mitigation, maximize battle healing and meditation, and simply turn myself into an unstoppable force with no equal.  Unfortunately that means I need to get my hands on either unique or demonic gear that matches my tastes at some point.  And from what I heard, demonic equipment rarely fits someone's tastes."

Hidden stood, searching the area as the two talked. They talked about the energy skills that were out there and how they would help each of their builds. Meditation was a good skill to invest into, on the other hand Energist was not looking too good. It either reduced need for energy, or increased your energy, she had on idea. Domarus, was going for damage. She was as well, but eventually she planned to go into the scout side of things as well. Sneak and Hide would also go into her build. It suited the image she portrayed. She nodded and answered, "Damage is about my number one thing to focus on right now. It brings my level, up into the ability levels with those ten levels higher than I"  Sitting in the snow was a few materials she quickly retrieved. She handed them over to Domarus again and listened to his finishing sentences. "Actual good demonics are hard to come by. most are weak or have a fatal flaw to go around on with them"

Hidden moved away from the man a bit and said, "Well, I shall see you at that upcoming event. I promise I will be much stronger by then"

The cloaked player with him was silent for a moment as she seemed to be thinking about what Domarus had just said.  He watched as she scanned the area for any materials, Keres doing the same.  When she replied he listened to her, dissecting her words as he always did.  After she finished he nodded.
"Indeed.  Damage and tanks are the most needed quality in this world.  Most players refuse to play as tank either because they despise the risk, or they think it boring.  Or both at times.  That's why I'll have to maximize my defensive skills after my damage dealing ones, so that I can assist with the lack of tanks.  I won't be the strongest tank of course, but I'll be good enough until we get more of them.  It also doesn't help that tanks can't deal much damage and thus can't fight on their own while a dps, though a glass cannon, can deal great damage, and thus can still fight and reap the rewards."  Keres and Porvós looked for any materials nearby, but the more and more they searched, the more disappointed they became.  Meanwhile the black armored player listened to Keres talk about demonic equipment.  He scoffed.

"From what I've heard, most demonic equipment's enhancements are randomized and mixed up.  They don't compliment one another, or the enhancements chosen are useless to any and all players and thus just collected.  What's worse is that the players who really need them never get them.  The frontlines are filled with players who seek fame, glory, and riches, not to clear the game.  But that will soon change..."  He turned as she said she needed to go.  He nodded and Keres waved as Hidden walked away.  You better be stronger Hidden, he thought to himself.  I'm counting on you generals to back me up in the future.  Together, we shall rise.
