Milo and his older sister Lana, were born in the U.S.A, though his parents moved to Japan when he was two so he has few memories of his time there. While in Japan his family had a difficult time adjusting to society there and this resulted in his family status being in between the middle-class and poor. To make up for this both his parents took a job.

With his each of his parents working long hours he and his sister were often left alone when they came home from school. They had to learn to cook and clean for themselves as there parents almost always came home exhausted, with most his time spent at home and school Milo had few friends to hang out with.

As time passed he began to see his sister as a second mother. She helped him with school and taught him to ride a bike (as that was often how they got to school) and many other things, by the time he was 10 they did almost everything together.

However Lana began to notice Milo was becoming a little too dependent on her. Getting to the point were he was expecting her help in whatever problem arose. So to help him become more independent she started to distance herself from Milo. At first it was smaller things like not helping him with school work or setting the table for dinner, but eventually she began to enjoy the extra time she had to herself. So Lana began to take it further, telling herself that it was for her brothers good. This continued until he was fourteen.

Eventually it got to the point were she wouldn't even accompany him on his way to school. Milo had finally had enough and confronted her about it, they got into a long and loud argument and by the time it was over they were no longer on speaking terms.

The parents decided to get something to help the two get over there fight. What they came up with was Sword Art Online...

Milo tends to be quiet and thoughtful as well as shy due to not having much social interaction, feeding his underconfidence on the subject. He is not an introvert however and once he warms up to somone he is loyal and friendly, sometimes to a fault.

He tries not to be the center of attention instead focusing on putting others in the spotlight to keep it away from himself. Though some have taken this as him being lazy, it's actually because he doubts himself and doesn't want to be seen as a failure. When Milo does end up being the focus of anything he tries his best to live up to expectations. When he does fail Milo is very hard on himself and will do almost anything to make it right.

1. Smart. Milo has always gotten great grades in school, even without his sisters help. Being traped in SAO hasnt changed this, he has even attempted to create his own homework to practice. He shouldn't have much trouble getting into a collage.

 

2. Patient. One saying that Milo will never forget Is to "treat others the way you want to be treated". This has made him very tolerant of others and prefers to see the good side of a person. Even if he regrets it in the end.

 

3. Strong. Milo has unusual strength for his age. Mostly from helping out with pretty much everything from repairing the siding on the house to working on the car with his father. He tends to only show it when he is frustrated though.

 

4. Good musician. Milo had a habit of being rather clumsy once he hit 10. So to help get over that he took up guitar to train his eyes, fingers, ears, and other senses. Though he doesn't play much anymore, he could still play a good riff when asked.

1. Underconfident. Due to relying on his sister so much he is not very sure about his own abilities. He tries not to let others see this and when it does show he puts extreme effort to make up for it, sometimes going too far in the process. This is one of the two things keeping his grades from being outstanding.

 

2. Naive. Hey! Hes still pretty young! Its not hard to earn Milo's trust once he's warmed up to someone. This trait has shown itself less since SAO began, but it's not gone.

 

3. Daydreamer. Thanks to a lack of social interaction, he has a bad habit of spacing out when nothing is happening. Somtimes when people are talking to him. This is another reason he has been called lazy.

 

4. Terrible handwriting. Dispite his good grades he has an extremely hard time with his penmanship. He has tried his hardest to fix this but to no avail. This is another thing holding his grades back.
