They made their way out of the trap room and continued along the narrow corridors until they came to a small shrine. Incense burned on the altar, and there seemed to be ornamental gravestones littering the walls and the floors on the edges of the little chamber. As soon as he set foot inside, the ground by four of the stones opened up, and a shape dashed upward into the air from each. Four monks in traditional ceremonial garb landed in the paths of the players, their skin an ashen grey and completely smooth and featureless. Shield took a quick intake of breath and howled, kicking up dust from the labyrinth floor. "Come on then, dead heads!" he called out to them. "Let's see what you've got!" The martial artists leaped into the air again, their fists cocked back to strike. They hit like a ton of bricks, but the damage he knew was negligible once his healing kicked in. The monks, on the other hand, each lost the very top of their health bars from his thorns. Edited March 31, 2017 by Shield

He said admiring the room just before the monks sprang from their graves, startling him and causing him to jump back behind the tank. "Even cooler! Finally, a martial artist to test my skills on!" He said cheerfully as he sized up his opponents and worked his way into their formation, deciding on a more traditional approach rather than the more supernatural abilities the game had granted him upon grand-mastering his art. "Alright, let's see if you have seen this!" He leaped up so that his hips were now level with the heads of each monk before spinning and sending each of them sprawling backwards as his heel crashed into each face, cracking the bone. The tipsiness in his drink began to return upon seeing far too many people, seems like the effects of the alcohol were beginning to affect him once again. His body would lazily begin to slag over to the right side awkwardly as he would drag his spear on the ground, the blue light coating it as he would try to trigger a sword art. They all narrowly dodged the slice that he tried to get through them, making him waste a little bit of energy before he would jump back, shaking his head from side to side. It was hard for him to speak or even give so much as a good reaction when the alcohol hit him. The adrenaline that went through him fueled the alcohol within his body. With that said, he would place his free hand in his pocket while he leaned all of his weight onto the spear so that he would be able to rest for a bit. His attack sailed through the space where the nearest of the monks used to be, missing entirely as the four of them individually flipped in midair and brought their heels down onto Shield's shoulders. Another plunging of his health bar followed by a series of little scratches on the offending limbs, and the monks stumbled back from their immovable target. Shield stood resolute, not quite possessing the faculties to stand without a slight wobble, but enough that the attacks had not pushed him from his spot. Aside from the occasional misstep, which Beat was able to quickly compensate for, the martial artist was feeling very little of the effects remaining from his drink, though he was still exercising caution all the same. It was nice to see that the benefits were still intact even if that did come at a price. He knew that if he were ever in a situation where he needed to drink to overcome a threat, tanking would be his only option. Evasion was far too risky to begin with, so all in all, it just made more sense. "Hmm, certainly close. If these monsters are any indication, I would say you are getting to be pretty immovable when you want to be. I still have a ways to go if I am to earn my title back though." Beat said, leaping into the fray and slamming his heel into each of the golems was satisfying results and their health bars dropped deep into the red. It was a remarkable thing that Sword Art Online had done. Being able to make any player feeling superhuman was nothing short of miraculous. Crossreign had been able to achieve this to some degree, but this game was on a totally different level. At this point, Beat really couldn't tell if he was superhuman or if he had simply been logged in for too long. Either way, he didn't care too much. "I will say, it will feel better if we do reach that level here. Means a little more I think." Edited April 4, 2017 by Beat
Sey 0 Posted April 4, 2017 Author #46 Share Posted April 4, 2017 (edited) It seems like Beat was going to be taking a step back from the action for a bit. With this in mind, he would tighten his own muscles, hoping that his own strength alone would be enough to end the monsters in front of them. His spear would be launched towards the enemies swiftly, piercing each of the monks through their chests. It was unfortunate that the critical sign did not trigger, additional damage seemingly impossible as of currently. It would have been a nice fantasy, but it seems like they were being put on the ropes now. So that was at least of some comfort to him at least. He would step back from the monsters, seeing that they still had their sights focused on the tank. Unfortunately, it looks like some damage had been sustained from the last barrage. If Sey did not know any better, he might have thought that Shield might need him to use the First Aid Skill. Behind the altar, one after another, four hulking, shadowy figures rose and stepped from behind, advancing on the ragtag group of explorers. They were stooped, with rippling muscles across their backs and shoulders, and sharp, flat spade shovels in their gnarled hands. Each of their faces was contorted from what seemed to be decades' worth of labor and toil, scowling from hard labor. Shield regripped his axe, tightening his fingers around the handle's leather wrap. "You're in our way," Shield growled before taking a deeper breath to power his lungs. "We don't have time for you cretins!" Their heads swiveled on their stocky necks to face Shield, their eye sockets empty and black, as if time itself had rotted them away. They advanced with crashing footsteps and when within range, slashed with their spades. Their hits landed, but in addition to the damage that Shield received, they each took a chunk to their health as well. Edited April 4, 2017 by Shield

Beat yelled, leaping in front of Shield and spinning through the group of hulking monsters, his heel finding purchase in each of them before he continued to spin through the air for several feet before landing, the booze enhancing the dizzying effect of his attack. "Whoops, bad ideas when drunk...fun though!" He said with a chuckle. Beat was well known for enjoying combat, but he found that alcohol in this game served multiple purposes. The first was the obvious gain in strength and damage potential, but the second was relaxing effect that the alcohol had on the mind, making it even easier to relax, even in the heat of combat. Sey 0 Posted April 4, 2017 Author #49 Share Posted April 4, 2017 (edited) It looks like everything was being defeated on schedule. With these monsters down, they were nearly done, right? They were able to cover a lot of the floor, and they were also looking at every possible corner anyways, so it would be very hard for them to even miss it in the first place. But the blokers insisted that the boss would be found here as well as any other hint that the game had to provide. What did this mean? They were just going to have to keep fighting and hope for the best. His hands would grip on the spear firmly as he would then look to rush the enemies, only to end up missing the attacks and being forced to jump back to safety. The result was a failure, and unfortunate one at that. So he would then brace for action the next time it was needed. It unnerved him to no small degree, but he did his best to focus. He swung, but the defender held out its spade, intercepting the strike. It knocked the weapons aside before spinning its spade overhead and slashing at Shield with it. The other three followed suit, lumbering forward and stabbing into the tank's body with their weapons. He winced as he felt each weapon pierce his skin and penetrate into his body, the phantom objects feeling as if they were displacing his inner organs. Holding up his hand and dragging his fingers down through the air, be brought up his menu and opened his inventory, swapping out his axe and shield for the familiar earring and wristband that were his loot detection items. "We must be near the end by now," he thought aloud, glancing around the eerie scenery of the little enclosed shrine and graveyard. "Not that a labyrinth couldn't be of some indeterminate size, but in order for players to have made it through so many floors, they have to have ends." He kept his HUD open, now navigating over to his map. There did indeed seem to be another section of the map that had yet to be explored. At least some interesting descriptions for the miscellaneous crap you find everywhere. Kayaba made all of this, I don't see a good reason not to finish polishing the game up." Beat said, shrugging as he turned on his gamer mind, analyzing the game as a gamer critic would, which was odd considering how very real the Sword Art Online experience was for all of them. For the most part, Beat really couldn't find much to complain about with SAO and, despite being a prisoner in the game, he was actually managing to enjoy the game for what it was, though he often found himself so deeply immersed that reality and the game were nearly the same thing to him. Sey 0 Posted April 4, 2017 Author #55 Share Posted April 4, 2017 Seems like they were going to have to have a little bit of a rest. While he felt like he was able to run laps around the enemies, the others might need the break, and he was not going to push them to the point in which they might die due to the lack of energy. So he would place the soft end of the spear to the ground firmly, not even leaning his weight against it as he would prepare himself for the next part. It was a bit annoying to not have any accuracy, his hits were none too successful recently due to that, and that in itself was going to be a problem. So he would take off the Pocket watch and replaced it with another. So what if they had less loot? It was never even supposed to be about that in the first place, and he was going to make sure that they got the boss room if it was the last thing they did. So now he was able to fight with enhanced accuracy. "Holy crap these places are huge! I can't imagine trying to solo this content, if that's even possible." He speculated, the slur in his speech nearly non-existent. Beat rested the back of his head against his hands, flaring his elbows out and allowing his gaze to wander upwards, towards the ceiling the home of what he imagined would be one of the toughest boss fights he had ever been in. He couldn't image a fight going worse than the sea battle on the eighteenth floor had, but the guardian to the twenty first floor would likely be stronger than anything the player base had ever faced. Sey 0 Posted April 4, 2017 Author #58 Share Posted April 4, 2017 (edited) Sey proceeded to look for some materials around. It all seemed to be nothing but rocky ground and walls. Maybe there was some torch he could use? not to eat, but to heat up meals. That was technically a material, was it not? So he would proceed to look for the torch. the meals to be made with that were going to be of that like those of the Mongols. They were respected for how risky they were, the Yukino family wanted to be like that without the massive need to destroy whatever was not in their liking. Of course, they had morals. As for Sey, he himself would end up moving through the labyrinth in hope of finding the materials. When he thought he saw a light a little bit away, he would proceed to advance towards it, possibly the lit torch that he had been looking for. Was gathering actually on his side this time? Sey would hope so, it was far too long since he had done this. ID# 81294 results: Loot: 12 + 8 = 20 (+4 Materials) Edited April 4, 2017 by Sey
Shield 0 Posted April 4, 2017 #59 Share Posted April 4, 2017 (edited) Spoiler ID# 81295 results: Loot: 7 + 3 item + 1 skill + 1 skill item = 12 - No Material (4 total) Swapping gear: - Finder's Keeper (- 1 skill rank: search & detect), -Seeking Aura (- 3 LD), + Pain Drinker (+ 54 Regen), + 1 Bloody Hell (+ 2 dmg, + 24 bleed) Shield let Sey lead the way for a little longer before taking the fore, leading them back down the same corridor that led to the room where they had last fought. There were a lot of decorative elements to the room. It might be that he had missed an entrance behind something. As they arrived, he scoured the room, top to bottom, looking for anything he may have missed the first time through. Heaven knows they had already exhausted every other passage. "Wait a second," he thought aloud before peering down into each of the graves. Sure enough, three of them seemed normal, but one of them had no bottom that he could see. "I think we found our path to the next section. Sey, you want to use one of those torches and see if you can see a safe landing down there? I'm not big on taking leaps of faith." @Beat Edited April 4, 2017 by Shield
Beat 0 Posted April 4, 2017 #60 Share Posted April 4, 2017 (edited) Spoiler ID# 81296: LD: 28 (20+8) = 1 T2 Mat found ( 5 total) REST: 3/3 EP FULL! Beat peered down into the grave, tempted to take the leap of faith, but knowing that such a risk was unacceptable without the certainty of a respawn removing most of the consequences should he end up paying for such a leap of faith. “Helloooo? Echo!” Beat shouted down into the grave, amused by the echo that returned his voice to him. The martial artist began to become excited as the dungeon took on more traditional dungeon tropes, in this case, secret passages. He could certainly see it being a trap, but they wouldn’t know until they explored the pit. “As long as we’re careful, we should be able to explore the grave with no issues.” He said, more serious now that the idea of actually taking a risk was on the table. Sure, they weren’t about to jump right in, but for all they knew, there was something hungry and waiting at the bottom of that pit. Edited April 5, 2017 by Beat
