PP-F1) Crafting Haitus (Earning a Living)

Recommended Posts

Sky sat at the entrance to the town of beginnings. He was doing this stupid quest... again... He was on a crafting hiatus. Not due to lack of mojo, but he had NO materials!!! He couldn't actually craft!!! He was going to do the quest he did to get his job again, this time for the materials. He opened his inventory, checking what he had equipped. He had his leather glove equipped, Starlit Waves, as well as his Gentleman's Suit and his Summer star jacket. He sighed, wishing he had a little more.

Wonder if il see anyone i can help...

He looks back into town, wondering if he would see anyone who could accompany him. They were on floor one, so their was little to no danger, but adventuring alone was boring. He wanted someone who might be able to at least keep him company, otherwise he was going to get stupidly and insanel

"Oi, cut that out!" Aster growled at the fox familiar weaving between her ankles as she tried to walk. Letting out a small sigh of frustration as the expressionless fox trotted along beside her now, the alchemist nudged slightly against the frame of her glasses with the tips of her fingers. "I swear, you're going to hurt someone doing that." She scolded the creature in vain. The duo had just reached the center of the Town of Beginnings--the massive plaza where they had been brought so long ago when The Announcement had been made. The healer had found herself nearly everywhere on the first floor at this point; there was hardly any section of the city she hadn't been. Outside of the safe zone, however, was a different story. While the girl wasn't worried about the dangers outside of the cities on the lower floors, she still found herself feeling anxious on her own. Her choice of skills left her practically useless on her own, and she was well aware of that. Normally, Aster didn't bother taking on quests unless she could employ herself as a healer in a party or something of the like. And so, while the virtual sun hung high above them, Aster and Reginald wandered through the main plaza of the Town of Beginnings with little purpose.

Sky sighed, deciding to head back into town. He didn't feel like going out alone, and he doubted he would actually see anyone at this point. He groaned, starting to get a little bored. He hadn't been out of the town in awhile, he wanted to go back to his store... His, well, makeshift home. He headed back into town, walking to the town square. He was about to sit down when he suddenly tripped, over the fountain edge, falling straight in. He quickly put his head up, gulping in air. He had been thinking about what this place meant. It was the place this WHOLE mess had started. It was where he had learnt that if he died... He was dead... Where they had all learnt this wasn't a game anymore. He hadn't progressed as much as he had wanted to... But he was going to, he was determined to Win!!!

He was about to pump a fist up, only to fall back in, causing a massive splash, his head goign up quickly, groaning. Why am i so clutzy.....

"Mm, nice to get out every now and then, eh?" Aster glanced down to the fox trotting alongside her. Reginald's bushy tail swished side-to-side behind him, only looking up to his master for a brief moment before focusing his attention forward. Silent as always. Aster didn't much mind; his curious and playful antics were more than enough to keep her frustrated without the yipping and whining of a fox to go with it.

The sound of a splash caught not the ginger's attention, but the small fox's. Reginald perked up just as Aster had found a bench. The girl was in the middle of pulling up her inventory, about to materialize her collection of alchemy notes in order to review them and make a wishlist of ingredients when the creature darted off towards the center of the plaza. "Reginald!" She called after the fox with annoyance clear in her voice. The girl quickly stood up again to follow after the animal.

Reginald hopped up on the bricks lining the edge of the fountain, trotting around the edge until he had found the source of the noise. Just as he spotted him, the dark-haired player fell back in with another resounding splash. Taking this as an invitation to play, Reginald jumped into the fountain beside the player, hopping around to make several smaller splashes as his paws hit the surface of the water.

Sky was about to climb out when suddenly, some little fox jumped in and started splashing around. He was about to say something when the splashing water went onto him, causing him to shiver with how cold it was!!! Though within a minute he was laughing about it, and decided to splash some water at the fox. He splashed about a handful lightly towards it before climbing out, sitting down on the edge, dripping wet. He sighed, groaning as he looked at himself.

"Great... I have no spare clothes...." He said to himself, looking back at the fox, before suddenly wondering, why was a fox here? It must be someone's familiar, otherwise it wouldn't be here in town with people around, it would be shy. He looked around, hoping to see its owner only to fall back again, falling back in. He didn't do anything this time, he just laid in the fountain, thinking about stuff for about five minutes.

The fox looked curiously at the raven-haired player, giving a shake of his head as a bit of water was splashed back to him. The fox hopped up onto the stone lining the edge of the fountain after the boy picked himself up, lingering but not being quite as playful as moments ago. Shortly after the fox removed himself from the pool of the fountain, his orange-haired master had arrived with a stern look on her face.

"Misbehaving little muppet..." Aster muttered under her breath before coming to a stop beside the familiar. Reginald quickly dropped to the ground, weaving between the girl's ankles before sitting down patiently beside her as if ignoring the fact that he had run off moments ago. The ginger let out a small sigh at the creature before turning her attention to the player who now seemed to be casually resting in the fountain. The girl couldn't help cocking an eyebrow at the display, but continued on with the apology she had prepared. "Sorry about him, if he caused you any trouble. Um..." She hesitated a moment, feeling unsure of her next words as she forced them out anyway. "Are you...alright there?"

Sky was woken up when he heard someone saying somehting about causing trouble? He pulled himself up, sitting down on the edge of the fountain before standing up. He looked at her, noticing the fox right next to her foot. He looked up, seeing a girl standing there. He blushed a little, someone having actually seen him in this soaking wet state, he decided to blow it off, and looking at her, shaking his head.

So its her familiar, good to know

"No, don't worry, your furry friend didn't cause any trouble, and im fine, i just... daydreamt a little bit" He said, blushing a little before opening up his menu, equipping his necklace. He didn't have it on before, and it was time for him to actually stop goofing off this much. He had no work to do, but it was a good idea not to... well keep falling in fountains.

"The fox is cute, i haven't managed to get myself one yet..."

The girl's head tilted to the side just slightly. At the boy's last remark she perked up a bit. "Oh, the quest wasn't difficult at all," She began to impart her knowledge without invitation. "I received it here in town, but I've heard it can be found on any floor, depending on which type of creature you want as a familiar." The bookworm stopped herself before going on too long of a tangent.

"Ah, anyway," She glanced over at the boy once more before her gaze wandered towards the shopping district she had originally entered the plaza from. "Your clothes should return to normal after a while, but you can probably get something cheap from the NPC tailors." Once again, she offered up her unsolicited advice. Regardless of the player's clothing, however, Aster was beginning to feel a bit uncomfortable with the whole exchange. She gave a quick glance down at her familiar before giving the boy a small nod. "Well, maybe I'll see you around." Her attempt at a polite farewell felt unsuccessful, but she spent little time dwelling on it before beginning to continue past the fountain.

He didn't respond as she talked, instead choosing to listen, before noticing she seemed uncomfortable. He didn't mind her advice, it was nice to actually get some for once, but she seemed.... a little off, as in she wasn't comfortable with this. He got up, deciding just to let his clothes dry on there own.

"Hey, do you want to go get some materials with me? I was wanting to head out before, but i didn't want to go alone. You up for it?" He asked, hoping he wasn't out of place with asking. He was bad at making friends, he didn't well, really have any in the real world, and he had only made about three in this one so far. Everyone he had met was through his guild, it would be nice to meet others... That is the goal he he had set for him, to help whoever he could, and how else was he going to do that but by meeting people?

"If you wouldn't mind..."

The sound of the boy's voice caught her attention, causing Aster to turn back towards Stryder and listen to his request. "Oh, hmm." She gave a thoughtful look before glancing down towards the fox at her heels, as if to confer with the familiar before making a decision. Reginald simply looked back up at his master with the same blank expression the fox always wore. After only a second or two of consideration, the ginger gave a nod in agreement. "All right," A small smile pulled at the corners of her mouth. "I could certainly use some myself." She admitted, shifting her weight as she then considered which direction they should be heading in. "Will we be staying on this floor, or were you planning to move to another?" She quickly followed-up with her inquiry, hesitating in her movement until she had a confirmation of where they needed to go.

Sky was glad when she said yes, meaning that he wouldn't have to go out alone, and he could get to know other players more. He walked over to her, sending a party invite, both for safety, and for knowledge.

"Probably staying on this floor, i haven't exactly gotten the points to survive well on those floors" He said to her, rubbing the back of his head. He realized he hadn't actually introduced himself yet. He smiled at her, being polite as always.

"The names Stryder, a member of the Emerald Harbingers, pleased to meet you" He said, introducing himself as well as his guild, which he realized he had been getting into a habbit of doing. It wasn't a great practise for everyday stuff, but it would help for when they hit the boss rooms, if they ever hit the boss rooms. It would be good to be able to say it easily.

Aster looked over the party invitation that appeared in front of her before selecting the option to 'Accept'. She was surprised to hear Stryder admit that he wasn't prepared for higher floors, considering herself a rather low level having gone up to the fifth floor. Regardless, many players required a party to truly feel safe outside of the city's borders, and she was hardly an exception.

"Oh, Aster." The girl brought one foot back behind the other in a small curtsy at her introduction. 'Emerald Harbingers...' The name echoed in her mind. Perhaps that was the name of one of those 'guilds' that had been explained to her a few days' past. "And this here is Reginald." She added on, motioning to the fox beside her. "Staying on this floor is just fine." She gave a small nod before turning once again to leave, this time making her ways towards the city's eastern gate. The fox paused a moment, staring up at the black-haired player before tilting his head to the side and silently following after his master.

"Nice to meet you Aster, and you two Reginald, just.... next time maybe not in a fountain...." He says to both of them, blushing wildely at how embarrassing that had been for him. He shook his head out of it, smiling as they started walking towards the cities eastern gate. He needed to get some materials, and this would do it easily. He pumped his fists together, ready for anything!!! He had his martial Arts Skill, and his necklace, and his suit, he would be fine, at least he hoped.....

He looked over at her, wondering what kind of build she wanted to play as, though he decided AGAINST asking, it wasn't right.

"So, Aster, what floor did you find Reginald?" He asks, attempting to start up a small conversation. He felt akward right now, not knowing her enough to talk. He had a lot of issues talking to those he didn't know, but he needed to learn.

"Hm?" The players had made their way outside of the city when Aster's amber eyes glanced over to Stryder. "Oh, this floor actually." She answered matter-of-factly. The fox in question trotted along beside her, taking little interest in their surroundings. "Out past the fields that surround the city, there are more trees that make up a bit of a forest area." She continued to explain, her hands motioning aimlessly in the air in front of her as she spoke.

The pair had only been outside of the safe zone for a few minutes when Aster perked up and knelt to the ground slightly off from the direction they had been heading. The girl had spotted a familiar herb growing among the tall grass, and when she pulled the item from the earth the system notified her that she had obtained a crafting material. Satisfied with such early results, the ginger pushed up her glasses and deposited the item into her inventory. She only hoped that her luck wasn't fleeting

  • 2 weeks later...

(Is now strong enough to fight)

She had found that little fox on THIS floor!!! Lucky her. He was still trying to find one!!! He wanted a pet dragon, and he was searching around for it, but he hadn't had any luck yet.He glanced around, hoping to see some materials only to trip and fall over, seeing nothing but a twig.... After they exited the city gates, he glanced over, giving her a smile.

"Cool!!! I think its amazing that in this game, animals such as Foxes who are normally scared of humans are happily running around at peoples side... Its a miracle to watch" He said, smiling at little Reginald. He wanted one, though he needed a name, and he needed to find the one he wanted. He continued to walk around, hoping to find some more materials so that he could get back to crafting!!! It was rough, trying to do this. It was a pain, but at least it was a pain he wasn't doing alone. He didn't like walking alone, it was stupid.

A steady breath exited through her nose, akin to a sigh. Aster continued looking around for other materials as they walked slowly through the fields outside of the safe zone. Her amber eyes stared through the lenses of her glasses, scanning side to side along the ground. Although she had perfect "vision" in Aincrad, she felt too different without the frames resting on her face. It wasn't long after she had first logged into the game before she had visited an artisan on the first floor to craft her a pair of vanity glasses she could wear.

Her attention was grabbed when Stryder suddenly fell to the ground, but the girl didn't have the time to ask if he was alright before the raven-haired player was back on his feet and flashing her a grin. Aster cocked an eyebrow, averting her gaze after a few moments so as not to be rude. 'Odd...' She thought simply, but soon dismissed the topic from her mind. The healer hadn't found any materials since the first herb, but there was plenty more field to search through. While she was grateful that there was an option to obtain materials that didn't involve fighting monsters, it certainly could be tedious.

Sky was a little uneased by the quiet, her not answering him at all. He just gulped, trying to find some materials. He searched around, looking in each bush, each tree, everywhere, but he found nothing. No cotton, no leather, no wool, NOTHING. He was a little disappointed by it, but he decided that he couldn't help it. So instead, he just shrugged and looked towards his companion. He didn't know what to think about her, it was a ittle strange.

"So..... Any luck yet?" He asks, wondering if she had, and as a question to hope that she would talk a little bit. It was uneasy for him not talking to those wehe was around, he didn't like i.t. He needed human interaction, it was weird wiothout it!!! He had lived his whole life with interaction, he was SO used to actually talking to those around him. He hated the feeling of being near someone and it was just dead silence. It sucked, majorly.

"Hm?" Aster mumbled a response over her shoulder. The girl had been eyeing a rather tall tree for a few seconds, debating the thought of trying to climb up it before eventually deciding against it. With a small shake of her head, Aster turned her attention to Stryder for a brief moment before giving the boy a small nod. "Alright, I suppose." Her accent lightly touched her words. While the ginger had only claimed one material in her search so far, she hadn't kept track of the raven-haired player's progress.

"Ah!" Aster let out a tiny exclamation as her eye caught on another herb amongst the grassy plain. The item seemed identical to the first she had obtained, and when the girl walked over and crouched down beside it she took a moment to inspect the item. A quick glance over of the dialogue window that appeared over it confirmed that she had found another herb she could use with her alchemy skill. With a small smile, Aster reached out and plucked it from the ground, depositing the item into her inventory as it vanished from her fingers.

Sky was a little on edge with her, she wasn't bad or anything, he felt safe, but what he didn't feel was wanted. She was very... Awkward to be around, being all silent and unsociable. While he was thinking, he tripped again, but he managed to not fall, and as he checked to see what he fell over he saw some leather, which he grabbed. He noticed the sun was going down, meaning they wanted to head back to the town in a little, maybe an hour or so. He didn't respond to much, instead just heading to his own devices as he looked around for more and more materials, but as normal he didn't have much luck. It was always either a bird dropped it for him, or he tripped over it, he rarely ever found anything else... Ever. He always found them one of those two ways, rarely did he ever just happen to pick cotton or something.

An odd pairing to say the least, Aster and Stryder continued searching for materials in relative silence. The bookworm continued searching through the field, trees, and bushes in hopes of more items. She made sure not to stray too close to the boars and other monsters that roamed the floor. They were low-level creatures, and Aster might have been able to handle them even on her own, she preferred not to fight whenever possible. She felt as though labeling herself as a pacifist wasn't too far off. The girl wasn't squeamish by any means--after all, an aspiring doctor couldn't let things like blood or human injuries to bother her. Unfortunately, that kind of ability wasn't useful to her here, where pain and physical injury was impossible. Still, the ginger didn't care to participate in the violence of slaying monsters. She would much rather stay back and put players back on their feet in the heat of battle.
