Background (Pre-Aincrad)

Alexander had always impressed those around him with his ability to think outside of the box and with his sheer brilliance that you could actually see when looking into his eyes. His love for all things strange and mechanical captivated him to the point of complete blindness to all that happened around him, turning those impressed first impressions of him into those of frustration or resignation. The only thing that could peel Alexander away from his personal studies into temporal paradox's and his lectures at the Columbia University NYC had been the love of his life Sienna Guillory. 

For the past 4 years however Alexander has been struggling with the concept of facing reality ever since his fiance Sienna was taken from him abruptly in a mugging that took a fatal turn for the worse shortly after he had proposed. In the 4 years since that fateful event Alexander had shut himself from the outside world continuing his research into the field of time travel when after countless experiments he had he had come to the conclusion that he could not change the past. He was never able to answer the question of why he could not change the past in the world as he knew it and in an attempt to seek that answer he decided to search for it in a world that was not bound by the same laws of physics, hoping that the looser constraints of these laws would create greater potential to explore that with which he was searching. 

That is when Alexander discovered the world of SAO. Within Aincrad he thought that he could find what he was missing in his research, however after the end of that first day withing the world and upon discovering that he was now trapped he was faced with a realization. His past would forever be locked from him, unchangeable, raw in his mind yet out of reach of hand. He now had to survive this world, and in order to do that he had to fight. He no longer knew what he was fighting for, he had nothing left for him in New York. All he knew was that this world, you either fought or you died. 

Personality

It takes a while for Gryas to open up to those around him, but those that eventually earn his trust find him to be as loyal and devoted to those close to him as they come. Regardless how close one was to Gryas when prompted about his prior life he would still be dismissive and refused to speak of his past. He now fully committed all of his time to defeating this world, rarely taking time off for himself. He found that when ever he did leave himself to his own thoughts it tended to bring back memories that he wish best left in the past. 

Virtues:

• Loyalty

Although his loyalty comes hard earned once you have it you will find that there is nothing more important to Gryas then those close to him. Loyal to the point of reckless he would do anything to ensure the safety of his companions.

• Strategic

All his time spent studying and researching in his past life has molded his mind into a keen and strategic weapon that he utilizes as much in combat as he does his skill with the blade.

• Creative

When everything happens around him rapidly and he needs to think on his feet, the pieces seem to just fall into place for Gryas. He has an uncanny ability to assess the situation at hand and find solutions to the problem that most would never have thought of.

Flaws:

• Over-commitment

When Gryas puts his mind to something he tends to focus on it to the point of ignoring all else, committing all his mental resources to solve the problem in front of him and not accepting anything less then victory. He does not like to admit defeat.

• Stand-Offish

Although through his actions Gryas does appear to care for those around him and the players in Aincrad in general, most find him rather reserved until they get to know him. He is not fast to open up nor easy to get along with at the start. Although he would do no wrong or harm to those about him he would often have little patience for those outside of those close to him.

• Arrogant

Gryas tends to believe that a well thought strategy the best way to approach any situation, and often believes that his well thought strategy's are usually better then everyone else's. While he does accept advise from time to time he tends to come off as a little overbearing.

Relationships 

Zanne  -   (Aincrad adopted little sister)

Gryas's first meeting with Zanne was an odd one. Shortly after the announcement in the town square on that first day had concluded Gryas was approached by a short blonde haired girl introducing herself as Zanne. She seemed to be able to see straight through his outwardly calm demeanour and even after just a short conversation he began to feel much happier then he had in the past few years. Their friendship grew from that day onwards and he began to feel a new purpose in his life, to protect this person from the harshness of the world and the feeling of loosing a loved one.
